  1. Hell no. Showered an AI P-51 with over 70(!) 20mm rounds, and he still wouldn't go down. He had 4 smoke trails, 2 from each wing, which didn't affect him at all. Eventually, I got a good 2 second burst into him in a zoom climb, from wing tip to wing tip. It did nothing... He survived and shot me down as I passed him thinking I obliterated him...
  2. Just some charts I made for the Dora showcasing it's performance characteristic. Maximum speed chart created by gathering data from several historical tests (speed adjusted for compressibility error). Top speed at SL confirmed in game with closed radiator flaps. Climb chart created with data gathered from a single historical test. Roll rate chart created with data gathered from historical wind tunnel test. peak roll rate confirmed in game. Turn time chart created with data gathered in the game. I did several turns, picked the best 3 and averaged the results. Test done at full fuel, so obviously the Dora will turn better with less fuel. If you want any more charts done, just provide me with the data and I'll do them (goes for the P-51 as well).
  3. It's actually very easy to see how the pilots saw the sights. Just stick out 1 finger in front of your right eye (about 20 cm) and look ahead. This finger is your gun sight. Now initially, nothing really happens, you just see a semi transparent finger in front of your right eye. Now think to yourself "I want to aim through my finger" and BAM, magic, your finger is now in the middle of your vision (with a very faint duplicate on the right). Use your left eye for this test if you're one of the 1/3 of population that has their left eye as the dominant eye. And I agree, no sim has actually simulated this properly. I hope they figure something out. Also, I think this should be possible with VR goggles, as they offer stereoscopic vision.

  5. I think people turning with the Dora are doing so with full throttle. Naturally, the Dora, having almost identical lift loading (and coincidentally, almost the same distance needed for take off and clear 20m of altitude) will have trouble following the Mustang in a turn with 400 more HP. Why? Well, first of all, the engine torque is always pulling you to the left, meaning you will stall sooner if you're not careful with rudder. Second, all that engine power is actually keeping you outside of the turn (outside of L/D(max)). Example from a bf 109G-6 (with under wing gondolas) pilot: So next time, if you want to turn with a Mustang, try reducing throttle to 3000RPM. That's the combat power setting, which will give you about 1600HP at SL. Though if you have all that extra power available, why not use it? Just point your nose up a bit and you'll slow yourself down enough to match the Mustang's turn, while at the same time build energy.
  6. You have to hold down the button for about 20s to fully open them. Use the external view camera to see if they open.
  7. Really depends on weight (fuel) and flap use. With take off flaps and 80% fuel I've noticed that I can out-turn the AI P-51 and it usually just gives up on trying to turn with me. It's like he can sense what my flap position is...
  8. I don't know, for combat maybe? If I'm expecting to do a lot of combat at full power and not a lot for cruising, surely I'd trim for combat. Jeez! Don't see how I want to trim my aircraft concerns you anyway. Mind your own damn business.
  9. Hey Yo-Yo, is there any possibility that in the future we might be able to trim our aircraft on the ground?
  10. How do you know it's not right? Do you have any numbers on cooling efficiency for the D-9 radiator? Yo-Yo (the FM builder) said: So, take off power (3250 RPM, no MW-50) could be used for up to 30 minutes. That's from the manual, I assume, which would have some safety factor involved, so the real number would probably be more (probably limited by the fuel load, ~45 minutes).
  11. So, like this?
  12. Oh yes, it's a trend all right. I'm sure it has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that the Dora was released yesterday and people actually want to try it out against human opponents. Nope, must be that's it's so OP. ...
  13. Yup. Exactly. Also, C3 fuel (and the corresponding boost increase) as an option for the German planes would be nice.
  14. That's a pretty good idea. +1
  15. Thing is, I'm not sure increasing the boost would actually help the P-51 in this match. It'd only make the Merlin die sooner. D-9 has too much endurance for the P-51 to afford a slugging match.
  16. Actually, it wouldn't, due to refraction. The image in front of the glass would bend a bit, meaning you'd have a clear line of sight. Does someone have access to a FW 190 cockpit with a working revi? :D
  17. For fire-power against the B-17 hordes, you'd want the Ta 152C-3. 2xMG-151/15 2xMG-151/20 2xMK-108 1xMK-103 Complete overkill.
  18. The one you quoted me on was for the Dora. P-51: 8G at 8000lb, which is 6,4G at 10000lb. With a safety factor of 1.5G that's 9,6G of ultimate load at 10000lb, so around 10G at standard fighter weight. See here: You might have to zoom in a bit to see what it says (ctrl + mouse wheel to zoom in your browser).
  19. ^^ He seems to have it figured out.
  20. Ok, got them to work now. :)
  21. C&C Red Alert had really good music where they mixed marching sounds and commands (in German) with awesome rock music. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tb-gI_pFog0 That said, I actually like the Dora soundtrack.
  22. I tried both. Didn't move. Though, I was trying this while in flight at high speed.
  23. I can't manually open the flaps. I've set it to x key, but nothing happens when I press it or hold it down. The flaps stay shut. Don't know if it's just a graphic bug though.
  24. 11,2 G is the ultimate load. The safety load was 6,2G, with a 1,8 safety factor (6,2G*1,8=11,16G).
  25. No, but the controls are supposed to become heavy, and pull out that would rip off the wings should be nearly impossible for a normal human. But seeing how we are not affected by these forces on our home joysticks, I really can't tell to what extend this is modelled in DCS.
