  1. Yeah, thats the same problem with Arma 3 now. People complaining of one core ready to explode and their GPU sitting idle at 30%. DCS looks to have about the same type engine. We really need to move to modern engines.
  2. This is exactly what I was saying in another post. With a few spots for FPS on the map, it can be done. Basically, that whys there so much ocean in Arma on maps like Utes. It cuts down the objects, yet allows for a lot of space to fly. Same could be done on the Caucasus map. Leave most of it the way it is ( well, a little better! ) and then just let a few villages etc. have really good buildings and land. This is where you have your FPS battles.
  3. When they need money, there will be sales. :p
  4. I might give $5 for it. More than that, no. It has a LOOONG way to go IMO.
  5. I would! If I wanted less than full fidelity, I could just go play Arma. I'm just hoping EDGE and a good map editor come out soon for now.
  6. :megalol:
  7. HaHa, This!
  8. Nvidia better get on the bandwagon, cause I'm really an Nvidia fan. But hey, I go with who does the best work, and right now its AMD by a mile. And personally, I'm glad there's going to be an API war. That's how it was in the old days, and it caused competition, brought down prices, and pushed technology. All these companies have become way too complacent. Like their monopolies.
  9. About time. Looks like my next video card is going to be Radeon. And from what I can see, it can be put into EDGE without too much trouble. If it can give DCS World that much of a boost in FPS I certainly say GO FOR IT! Then we could increase the graphics much more and lure in more players.
  10. Oh, don't get me started about FO. I called them crooks and liars to their faces years ago. Nothing but rip off artists.
  11. Left Window Key - Home. Now go RTFM. :P There are plenty of good tutorials on YouTube, some manuals made by the Squadrons, and the DCS flight manual is excellent. How I learned to fly the Warthog. And I'm still learning stuff from all that.
  12. Well, I want to play an Arma like game myself :P. But my vision of it is not to make a whole map like Chernarus. I think we can all agree that would be ridiculous and would take YEARS to make because of the size of DCS maps (though it would be awesome :music_whistling:). My thought is to make just some spots on it where we could have a decent size FPS playable map. Say, keep most of the terrain the way it is now (well, it'll have to be a little better, maybe like Altis, which is nowhere near as complex as Chernarus, and is pretty much a rocky wasteland) but then have a nice sized town, outpost, small city, etc slowly build up out of the terrain which will be complicated and well done ( anything from Rainbow Six size maps to Arma sized villages like Utes ). Elsewhere, in the deep country, you could even keep the trees as sprites to bring down the FPS, because probably the only thing out there will be jets and helis. Now we have somewhere to play FPS missions which makes the Arma type players happy and we also have the vast country map which keeps true to DCS flight simming. This gives us some human ground forces to go against and also do CAS missions. It would be a start at least, and you could get third parties to make vehicles and infantry modules. Everyone wins and a lot more people get attracted to buying this sim. I think this is a good time to do it with EDGE graphics coming in, and to tell you the truth, BIS seems to have lost interest in doing anything with Arma 3. Its like they just plunked it down and left (reminds me of Crysis 3). They've basically just told the modders "do what you will with it". Not a company I want to support if that's their attitude. I think they are turning towards RPG and DayZ type games now. I think this is the last Arma. Prime time for DCS to grab some of the Arma players. Quote: ChrisB from the Arma forums, one of the good modders. "Everyone’s enthusiastic about BI staying with the series, we have to be, there is no alternative. That said if there was an alternative game made in a very similar way to this series in the future, I think a lot of the so called ‘community’ would show their heals and leave." /Quote Says it all. Everyone like me has been banned from their forum for daring to point out the problems. Now, even though some mods are coming out, even the die hards are starting to get mad at the lackluster attitude BIS has about everything that is Arma 3.
  13. I agree with you on the missing stuff about ditches, rocks, trenches on all the maps except one - I think its Chernarus. In the module "They came from Above" (which I think takes place in Chernarus ), its a really interesting romp. I can remember hiding in old creek beds and ditches. There's little roads and old houses stuck back in the woods. At one point, I came across an old boat house with a dock and cattails on the edges of the lake. Its just that most people go to the big villages and such, but if you explore around in the less "known" areas, there's interesting things about. Whoever made that map really put his soul into it. I remember one of the devs actually grumbling that "way too much time" was wasted putting that map together and that's not going to happen again. I thinks its a really great map that's pretty realistic. There's a lot of detail in it, like chairs sitting outside on the side of the house, where two people were probably sitting and talking at one point. Now that's "life like". The animals like cows wandering around and reacting to your presence is pretty neat as well. Chernarus is really the Jewel of Arma 2. But yeah, most of the other maps are just your usual Arma stuff. Thirsk is a little interesting as well. What would be great, is if we could get the detail up to the level of Arma 2 and Chernarus in DCS. I'm really interested in seeing the new EDGE tech in DCS with a good terrain editor. Some of the Arma 2 players ( a lot of whom have publicly rejected Arma 3 as a bad joke ) would definitely be interested in coming over to get real flight simulation added to their FPS play. As for Arma 3, its nothing but a barren wasteland on both Altis and Stratis. 3 or 4 of the same old houses just stacked together. Can't stand it. It's like they didn't even try. They didn't even bother putting furniture in the houses.
  14. Its also used to fly high in thin air, like going over mountains. If I remember correctly, with governors off, and full throttle (max), the engines can survive for about 30 minutes before burning out? There was some thread about this somewhere. But even if you make it back to base, the engines are going to have to be overhauled because of the strain.
  15. Lol, yeah, the Arma engine is still pretty bad. You need a MONSTER computer to run it because its still CPU dependent and runs on one thread. They need to move to Outerra Engine or such. Here's the link to the Arma 3: A-10C discussion if anyone wants it. This guy looks like he's trying to make a DCS style A-10C for Arma. I hear there's also an AH-64D with a clickable cockpit, but I haven't seen it yet. I think he's kind of struggling with getting in the CCIP / CCRP / Maverick functions, but looks like he's got some like the SPI and TADS already in! Plans on finishing Alpha by middle of this month! If anyone knows good Arma coding, I'm sure he would appreciate the help. I know a lot of people are just going to blow over the link thinking "yeah, right", but seriously, take a look at the pics on the first post. Their pretty dam nice! http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?169460-A-10C-for-Arma-3/page1
  16. Actually the ground in Arma 2 will probably look similiar to EDGE. Actually, Arma 2 will probably still look better, at least from what I've seen of the DCS photo's. They remind me of Unreal Tournament 1 graphics. Of course, DCS is a much larger world. Would be nice to see some third party programmers come in and start making infantry and vehicle modules.
  17. Well, at least EA is still better than BIS. BIS throws your complaints in the trash can and then bans you.
  18. Yeah, its kind of like Arma 2's High Command, but DCS really need to put more effort into the "Ground" part of their world. One modder in Arma 3 is now doing a pretty good job of copying the A-10C from DCS with complete cockpit and startup procedure. I don't know if he'll be able to get a decent FM into it, but we'll see. DCS has great fllight simulation, but their "world" pretty much ends there.
  19. Its all the Arma 3 people, waiting to see if you'll make Arma 4. :music_whistling:
  20. I saw a 4K 60" TV at Fry's Electronics today, showing off 4K demo footage, and I really wasn't that impressed. It didn't look much better than 1080p.
  21. Still looking for that reverse gear.
  22. *looks to the skies nervously.
  23. My AKM is in mourning. Best dam weapon design ever. Blue Skies brother!
  24. You should try flying the Cy-25. Its like trying to fly a brick. But yeah, I think DCS did a pretty good job of modeling exactly how the plane actually flies. The A-10 was never really meant for speed or acrobatics. Like the Cy-25, it was meant to get a lot of weapons to a certain point and then make it back home. I've made it back with one rudder shot off and half a wing missing, and still managed to land on the runway. It can take a pounding.
  25. Like their investors suing them.
