  1. Preordered, reading manual, loving it more and more and more And yet my Block 15 escapes me...
  2. I think standoff against convoys would be challenging without guided weapons of some kind. CCRP lofting on steerpoints IE airfields, FARPs, and the like, I see no problem though. Besides, standoff is overrated, just fly some bombs down their throat like you would in a fulcrum :) Or better yet, Rockets :D
  3. Click here to go to the download page! CURRENT VERSION: 2.2 AIRCRAFT SUPPORTED: Su-25T, A-10A, F-15C, MiG-29 (all versions), Su-27 (INCLUDING J-11A :D), Su-33, Su-25 READ THE DOWNLOAD INSTRUCTIONS IN FULL BEFORE YOU GET MAD AT ME AND :joystick: INTRODUCTION So for the longest time I've had a control map set up for the overview aircraft, which for (also) the longest time were the only aircraft I owned in DCS. I originally struggled to find maps for the $30 twist stick most of us peasants use called the Logitech Extreme 3d Pro & predecessors. Not all of us can afford an "advanced" HOTAS setup with pedals, and so I was stuck with the least expensive "valid" option available. I found one made by a fine gentleman by the name of ZQuicksilverZ for the Su-25T. It was quite good, almost beautifully simple, and I decided to make some adjustments to it as well as translate it to the rest of the FC3 aircraft. It worked great for my needs and I thought why the hell not, I might as well share it too, which I did in late 2014. Turns out, it's pretty popular. Downloaded over 10000 times. Holy crap, I never thought 5000 people would ever look at a youtube comment made by me, let alone download something I made, especially with my terrible reputation (I blame Canada XD). Those are pretty big numbers in DCS land, and as time has gone on I felt that while it was a decent enough profile it lacked some features and had some pointless redundancies (why is canopy close on the stick, for example?) So I present a long overdue overhaul of the LOGITECH EXTREME 3D PRO profiles for DCS: Flaming Cliffs 3 and DCS World: Su-25T! NOW INCLUDING J-11A FOR DCS OPEN BETA 2.5.2! Image of Profile (Included in ZIP) INSTALLATION (I've tested this for each profile with no errors, if you are having red input lines, you are likely not following the instructions correctly. Don't skip any steps) Open the ZIP File. Extract the DCS folder into your (hard drive disk)\Users\(You)\Saved Games Don't worry about overriding anything unless you have an old version of my profiles, the only things that should be overridden are the DCS and Config folders The included folder should be in the \DCS\Config. Inside will be Make sure your Logitech 3d Pro is connected to the PC BEFORE you start DCS Go to settings (Top left cog), go to controls If you have a map of you own loaded, make sure it's saved as a separate file Select the first plane you wish to load. Click modifiers on the bottom left, click add in the left column. Click Extreme 3d Pro (or whatever it shows up as), hit button 11, repeat for button 3. (Either do this for all aircraft now or repeat this step before loading each profile, just make sure this is done before loading the profiles OR YOU WILL HAVE RED INPUT LINES) Close the modifier window and click on any input line in the controller column. Click on Load Profile at the top left. Ensure you are in Users\You\Saved Games\DCS. Open Configs, select the plane you wish to load (MiG-29S reads as MiG-29C here), Open Joystick, Select and load the Logitech Extreme 3d Pro profile. If you wish, go ahead into the axis and tweak the settings to your liking (as well as making sure it's set up properly) If you wish, give it a quick run through to make sure everything is bound correctly using the readme or control reference image. Repeat previous step and this step until every profile you wish to be loaded is loaded. Make sure you fly out the planes to make sure everything is in order. Note: when you load the next profile in sequence, you will be in the previously loaded profile's directory. MAKE SURE YOU ARE LOADING THE RIGHT PROFILE FOR THE RIGHT PLANE OR IT WILL NOT WORK CORRECTLY BASICS OF THE PROFILES This is a joystick-only profile set using the default keyboard bindings. It uses 11 and 3 as modifiers Image of Profile (Included in ZIP) The HAT is used for Slewing the Target Cursor/Targeting Camera, with the Left Ctrl/Alt modifying what you do with it, with Ctrl being zone slew, and Alt being zone/target size The HAT is also used for modes in conjunction with the 11 and right modifiers, as well as the trim with left shift. 11 Up is primary dogfight mode (Boresight for non-radar planes, Vertical Scan for radar planes), 11 Left Navigation mode, 11 Down air to ground mode, and 11 Right BVR mode or some secondary function. Right alt and Right/Left HAT cycles steerpoints. Shift up is your next dogfight mode (HMS RU or Bore US), Ctrl your third (Bore RU or Longi US), alt being the Russian fighters' longitudinal mode Upper controls are where the fight is at. Trigger (Button 1) of course shoots, though for weapons release US planes use 3+Trigger. Cycle weapon with Button 2 at your thumb. 4 is unbound and reserved for communications, such as teamspeak. 5 is used for various lock and unlock functions, generally 5 being lock and 11+5 being return to search (Exception: 5+3 toggles the Su-27/33/J-11 anti-glare HUD filter). Right Shift/Ctrl is used to adjust weapons parameters in conjunction with the trigger and 2. 6 is used for enabling the gunsight, which will vary depending on the mode you're in. On Russian planes, 11+6 can be used to toggle the burst limiter. Left Shift and 6 is also used for autopilot on/off or disengage, in case it comes on by accident. Launch override is 3+Trigger in Russian planes and Right Alt+Trigger in US Planes On lower controls, 8 is your best friend. He can be your CM Chaff/Flare (also known as SLAP), ECM switch (11+8) or continuous SLAP (3+8). Aside from it, 9 and 7 zoom the display in and out, 10 (TWS) and 12 (PRF) change radar modes. 11+9 and 7 increases or decreases HUD brightness (important for night time), 11+10 jettisons fuel tanks, and 11+12 jettisons weapons in sequence (don't get that wrong). 3+E, when rapidly pressed three times, will activate the ejection seat. And finally the keyboard is used for everything else. Be sure to see the reference images for additional detail and irregularities by module. If you have any questions, concerns, or problems, feel free to post in this thread and I'll try to respond in a timely manner. Bug reports are encouraged. Non-bug recommendations or requests are tolerated, but will not necessarily be implemented Thanks and happy flying! :pilotfly: Changelog: 23 May 2016: Version 2 released, moved to new thread, old thread locked by request 5 July 2018: Version 2.2, Came back to DCS after hiatus, fixed bugs and missing controls, added "proper" support for J-11A, some other things I probably forgot
  4. Straight wings, looked a bit narrow so i'd say Su-25 (Su-25 has single tail, slight leading edge sweep and camo, A-10 has twin tail and grey). A-10 or Su-25 can both take ungodly amounts of damage hence the two missiles. Attackers are generally easy meat if you catch them off guard or at low energy. Ill send you my copy of Art of the Kill, if you plan on taking on more serious opponents in the future you really should give it a read
  5. ^This I think probably the only 4th gen fighter that would have a significant edge over everything else would be the Flanker. Not so much in power/weight (not much of that XD) but in pure maneuverability. It can out-turn just about anything. Other than that Most of them have different strengths and weaknesses but they aren't going to be very dramatic. Though the F-14A having bomber engines is tragic. I think the whole TF30 thing is what people like to catch on to. It's quite good in maneuvering so long as you don't try to play with the throttle out of burn, and Vark pilots have a couple of maneuvering kills, most famous probably being zero hour ODS.
  6. Just to add a tiny bit to fable2omg's point, don't be deceived, bricks can actually turn very well at low speed, reference the 57klb Su-27 (air-air 3/4 fuel) which below 600kmh will out-turn anything To the topic at hand Like LN said, for gamers' convenience I see no reason why it can't be a keybind. Like the pre-OCU F-16A's obstructive HUD projector, it's one bit of authenticity we can live without http://www.pakwheels.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/f3.jpg
  7. Loving the liberal use of PBS' fallacy vids  I would like to point out that due to not having any additional text for elaboration we cannot assume that he was completely dismissing "true cat lover," that's not how PBS' fallacy vids are normally used. PLEASE NOBODY TRY TO START THE FALLACY FALLACY FORUM LOOP FOR OUR OWN GOOD!!! :fear: Now, let's please stop with the :poster_offtopic:
  8. holy crap bio has a youtube channel!?!?!?!? Love his stuff. I hope that he contributes to the DCS F-14 Tomcat he'd be fantastic
  9. Great video though the landing was a bit shaky
  10. The MiG was A. wired and B. expected to have to use it in WW3. The Navy did not explore the F-14's attack capabilities for the first half of its life despite it having full CCIP and CCRP for the full catalogue of CBUs, Napalm, and LDGPs. The B61 and B83 were probably also buried in there as well. The Navy considered it irrelevant for its peacetime mission due to the amount of A-7s and A-6s they had available (which had much smaller RCS may I add) though you can bet your ass they would've cleared the F-14 right quick for everything should it have gotten toasty. And while it wasn't wired for mounting it it could have used INS CCRP with loft and just treat it like a CBU release due to the similar profile, with bomb configuration done in the weapons room. Another excellent reason, don't forget the Trident subs and Battleships, too, nuke tomahawks are certainly within the latter's mission parameters at the time, even if not carried in peacetime. Also by the time the F-14 was bomb-ready the Cold war was over, the B83 in process of retirement, and the B61 scaled back, so the Navy didn't bother to wire it. Note: I believe the mission parameters for the BB61 Class in the 80's were sea superiority using harpoons and the 16"s at shorter ranges, and naval gunfire support using hawks and the 16"s.
  11. I think the real problem is that internet people seem to use the AIM-9 and AIM-7 as the standards for anti-fighter weaponry, IE high control surface size/body size & weight ratio; they seem to completely ignoring booster time and the fact that if its, turning its not really accelerating that much (which is the basis for all missile evasion techniques in the first place) and even a mammoth such as the phoenix will turn. If fully-loaded flankers (over 50klb with 56% fuel and full guns) can pull 9g all day without ripping its wings AND out-turn everything else in the sky i don't see why the AIM-54 shouldn't be able to get onto maneuvering targets as well as any other missile. Honestly with the 120C's tiny ass fins i see no reason it shouldn't be as good if not better.
  12. Nope, no laughing whatsoever. In Fact, the F-16A block 15 (non adf) is responsible for the majority of air-air kills and it only used AIM-9s. the AIM-9M is a lot better than people realize, because they keep comparing it to the R-73
  13. I'll finish fine-tuning the current version and update it. It's been rather heavily expanded upon
  14. To bring it back on topic... So to sum it up, the Viggen will have in its favor better low speed performance, a more reliable radar (despite being limited to CAC modes, correct me if i missed something), better missiles, better rwr, and a somewhat better engine with a nasty trick if the mig gets too close. The Mig will have in its favor it's roll rate, its meteoric acceleration, it's sometimes wacky handling on the edge, and its pilots' suicidal tendencies. And finally above 500 km/h it'll pretty much come down to which one had the better breakfast and better sleep. But on one end the Mig will actively be looking for a fight while the AJS will actively be avoiding a fight, letting JAs, Finnish hornets, and Danish and Norwegian vipers and do most of the air to air work if possible That is unless the AJSes are in a "sheep's clothing" setup with all 9s, as i expect more than a few players will do for fun b/c HawgCAP :D

    Bitchin' Betty?

Apart from the silly implications of para bellum, Dassault just used warning tones instead so they didn't have to get linguists to make betty warnings for so many major languages. The Mirage is meant to be a big-time export plane after all
  16. On the "elite F-14 flight officer" one there's a quote about Super Bug v Turkey which pretty much sums up why I like the Block 15 Viper over later ones, to go a little bit off topic and a bit confusing. It's also why i'll defend the F-14B, pre-2000 bug, and fulcrum to the death, you need to fly those things, you cant just play like a flanker pilot and take everything for granted. I'd rather have a shin-deep FC level simulation of 1985 or 1990 complete with F-15A MSIP, ADF vipers, 10As, Corsairs, and Varks than a complete F-22 module. I want to win the hard way with mavericks as my TGP and sparrows instead of slammers. IDK dude sparrows are pretty good, you can't use them like slammers which i guess hangs up most pilots in DCS who are used to advanced alamos and said slammers. Granted i'm not the best guy to ask since my k/d is probably less than .5
  17. Cmon people, it's christmas. Stop refreshing the front page like crazy people and go play some MiG-29S to warm up
  18. Block 15 had ground mapping radar, and the OCU in the late 80's just in time for Iraq round 1 added mavericks, which was the 10A's TGP for decades :). Also I just made a case for stuff like the 24, 34, TRAM, and 111 above. I can wait for a F-16C until the end of time. I'd rather have an OCU block 15, less is more. Also it would keep the hog and frog playerbase intact and the unique "each guy does one thing" dynamic we see in DCS now. It would also keep people from getting JDAM lazy and practice proper bombing skills. I could talk for ages on why I'd rather have the early F-16 first, especially since we might not have it after a C module
  19. I agree COMPLETELY We already have the non-nameable three letter word (which i've been enjoying the shit out of sice it was put on gog for $10) for the 15M-52D, I want a more pure experience for DCS at first since, lets face it, someone will just mod the 52D out of the bug and go from there, if someone isn't working on a charlie viper already. I don't want no pussy-ass lantirn, no 80 mile+ radar, and no slammers. I want a SMS to my left, Radar by my crotch, I want the most sophisticated munition to be the Mav and the 97, I want it as light weight as possible, and I want a ****ing gold leafed canopy. Basically, I want a Block 15 OCU, ADF optional. And you want it too, you just don't know it yet. Though a Corsair II would be bitchin'... 2nd Post. Ish While I'm certain there will be some people who fill find strat bombers enjoyable, I have some kind of integration or global appeal-ability concern. They have WAAAAAY to big payloads for anything we can come up with in DCS and they, remember, are the opposite of nimble and can't maneuver their way out of trouble. I have a gut feeling (and my gut is more often than not correct) that if a flanker, eagle, or even (in fact particularly) mig driver sees a bogey at way further than they should see, they will assume it's a bomber and immediately go after it, ignoring any sort of escort they may have as one bomber can and will win the match for the entire team and just loosing off every slammer, IR alamo, or adder they can, and rely on their buddies to do the same. Last I checked there isn't enough chaff in the world to spoof 6 adders for such a big target. While it would give the fishbed a new lease on life, the fishbed play their true purpose in life, and it COULD make for incredible air to air engagements, they'd just be focused down to the point that it's basically unplayable in PvP. I'd more prefer an advanced tactical bomber like the Su-24, Su-34, A-6 TRAM, and/or F-111 (Strike Eagle too but we'll have to wait until the multirole framework is in place). They are more familiar to pounders, fighter jocks, and F-B guys like myself which comprise the DCS community as of current, and they still haul vastly superior loads in both explosive mass and number of bombs to anything we have currently. They are more flexible in the kinds of missions they can perform than a big plane like the Tu-22 or B-1, as they are smaller, faster, and more maneuverable, and in the scale and type of combat we see in DCS they'll honestly be more applicable. The big guys are meant to go across continents to bomb the crap out of factories, bridges, dams, cities, you know, strategic targets. We don't have much if any of that, while we have craploads of tank columns, FOBs, and pockets of resistance in cities. And since they'd have a reasonable chance of defending themselves they could prolong air-air engagements of the kind I/we are thinking of, allowing for actual incredible furballs, and since they aren't just slaughter meat, there will be more impetus to protect them since they can survive if you help them out. I kind of wish i could elaborate as much on the Black 15 as i can on this, I want a Block 15 so bad :(
  20. Sorry I haven't been active, I lost interest in DCS for a long while. Getting back into it. From what I've tried, I find it pretty good still, I am still, naturally, open to recommendations. I'm also going to re-upload my joystick setups for current version and add an adivsory. YOU NEED TO MANUALLY SET 11 AS A MODIFIER FOR EACH CRAFT, that's why all of your stuff is either greyed out or red. I'll upload an updated version anyways, but I'm pretty sure that's your issue. Any more questions etc, post or message. I'd prefer message so I can do it 1-on-1, while I prefer feedback and recommendations here. After extensive use I ended up using standard insert-delete for CM anyways so I'll remove that from feedback list. Please give me more recommendations, I would like to keep it relevant.

    Release??

I can imagine that your MiG expert doesn't have a lot of time on his hands, unless he is a reserve pilot. Still makes the mod quality go up, which gets us (or at least me) excited :) We can wait. We are capable of patience, despite the appearance otherwise
  22. hvymtal

    Release??

Hey blackdog, bow about we give them the benefit of the doubt. These guys aren't full-time game developers, many of these people are single-digit teams working on their free time. It is ready when its ready And a DCS beta from a 3rd party team will likely be ridiculously buggy. I honestly don't think it'll be worth it. <Mod edit: 1.1-Language>
  23. I do get how the HMCS could benefit attack aircraft, but i don't see it as being all that likely to have mass-distribution since A. The Air force despises specialized fighter-sized planes nowadays and B. are far more useful to fighters who need to be able to lock Missiles high off boresight moreso than attackers. Sure, it'd be great, but I don't see it happening until the F-16 front lines are retired freeing up a boatload of JHMCSes for A-10s
  24. Hmm, maybe I could do something like this for the F-15 and Russian planes. I just need fraps...
