LOL incredibly entertaining AND insightful.
-
No, I am able to download it off newsgroup.
-
Eh? You can't "remove" something from a newsgroup posting, unless the newsgroup server removes it. Given that most newsgroups servers do not filter postings, this is unlikely.
-
BTW for anyone who knows how to navigate newsgroups, it's available there if one knows where to look :). You can probably find an nzb of it somewhere. Although I must say most of the video is concerned with 1v1 BCM which most experienced simmers probably already have a handle on.

Yeah, I was just kidding about that :)

Yes, editing the canopy texture.

Very nice. Like the music too. Although, you haven't flown under a bridge until you've done this one with an AWACS :P (shown in this video): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C8a-3njaYKA

LMAO you guys are pretty harsh. It's actually pretty cool, I'm guessing the "red" under the plane is just mud/dirt, which really does give it a weathered gritty feel; good idea. The color scheme didn't seem unique to me, looked like a stock skin, but it looks good nonetheless.

Sorry, didn't mean to come off as rude :P, you are technically right, you can add new files to the CDDS, just as long as you overwrite an old one. CDDS Studio is merely for creating new CDDS files so you can add your own textures into it. If you downloaded Walmis's F-15 Mod, you'll see it has its own cdds files for its skins to go with the new model.
-
It's not possible to add a *new* file to an existing CDDS file, you have to replace an existing file in the CDDS with the one you want, making sure it's the same exact size since the CDDS file sizes cannot be altered in any way. You have two other options: make your own CDDS file as described in Cosmonaut's tutorial, or using the TempTextures directory to place your existing skins, which will still need to be named conventionally like in the CDDS file, in which case that file will be used as a replacement for an existing entry in the CDDS file. This is all explained in the tutorial anyway. Also, if you have new models and want to use your own skins for them, you have to make a .skin file for the respective .lom file, this is explained in the tutorial also :P
-
In ModMan you have choose the directory you want to import/export from. The files in that directory (for ex the bmp/tga) must be the EXACT SAME name as the file in the cdds you clicked on PLUS the size of the file, i.e. SU-33-SKIN-L-02-512x512.bmp. That's how ModMan knows which file you want to put in there, by referencing the bmp/tga name in the cdds file and looking for the same file name in your import/export directory.

Another thing, the x45 throttle, can it withstand the torque generated from the collective moving up and down? What I mean is that the throttle was designed to be held more or less very close to its pivot point. With the force applied at that distance, it seems considerably more force at the pivot point is applied, which might overstress the throttle slide (especially at the slide's detentes and limits). Also, how much pressure is needed for the throttle to be prevented from moving from its position when using the collective. Will the default suction cups keep it in place? I'm not sure, you're probably a much better engineer than I am so you can tell me :P You might have already "battle" tested enough to tell. One another thing: it seems pulling the collective up will cause the throttle to be pushed back (reduce engine power), meaning you'd have to reverse the throttle axes in game I'm assuming?

Gunzo tactics: SOme stuff I just dont understand.

By that do you mean executing a high yoyo maneuver? Just curious, I'm not very experienced in dogfighting. -
Well unless you backed-up your keyboard config, I don't think you can unless you hit the "default" button for each command you changed in the LOMAC input screen. But no worries, if you have LoCFG, you can merely backup your existing config; on re-install all you have to do is copy your backed up files into the appropriate directory.

OK then, I made a .PNG version for you. White background version: Transparent background version:

I got tired of staring at the same old ugly FC main menu and load screens, so I decided to make my own. I figured I'd package it for the community. I also added a new music intro track (remixed from the radio chatter intro track that comes with LOMAC). It's now available on www.lockonfiles.com. Here are some screens:

Yes, I know that part :) Just the fact that for some reason, I can remove the entire resource directory and all the buttons/text still render just fine. I thought that was what the res files were for, to specify placement and graphics for the widgets. They are plain text files with image offsets for specifying button graphics and placement. I thought it would be possible to customize them, but it seems changing them does nothing, it appears that they are not really used? I might be missing something obvious....
-
I noticed that LOMAC has lots of .res files in FUI\Resources for the GUI which the game doesn't seem to use. Why is it there? Are those .res files supposed to be compiled into the game? If so, why did the devs leave them there?
-
I too wish there were some realistic dogfighting footage, or at least tacviews available from actual combat exercises; that would be highly interesting.

E6400 OC'd to X6800 levels on air cooling

Yeah, the Amd Opteron 165 is similarly crazy. I overclocked it from a stock 1.6 GHz to about 2.9 GHz, completely stable under superpi and only with stock fan/heatsink. -
Hey EricJ, your screenshots inspired me to make a gold canopy mod, I posted in the mods section. I'm using one of your skins also, it looks amazing. Happy New Year.
-
Inspired by EricJ's screenshots, I decided to have a go at modding for Lock On. This add-on will add a gold canopy to the Su-27, 33 and Mig-29. It will also add gold canopy reflections in cockpit view. You can choose to install only the canopy without the reflections if you like by following the instructions in the readme. Tested with Modman 5 and FC 1.12a. Please let me know if there are any problems (this is my first mod and my first photoshop/skinning experience).
