I have been using Saitek for years. I got my VIRPIL VPC ACE Pedals two weeks ago. Quality and Engineering is astounding. I have been Simming for 25 Years and have Never had such precision in a set of Pedals. I fly mostly WW2 planes. HIGHLY Recommend them !

After 3 years away from DCS nothing has changed ! Buy a new Aircraft and Rudder is Bound to MGs, Throttle is Bound to Views, so here we go Again !...Clear each Controller and its Inputs. ..have a Fly, No, I missed a Binding that ED gave me !....ED, can we have a CLEAN controller menu when we start ? ... Experts are going to tell me about LUAs ! ....How hard can it be to choose our `own CONTROLLER BINDINGS " ?

I spent hours Downloading "Normandy Early Access". (I am a Backer) of Luthier:clown_2: So after a few hiccups I get "DCS Normandy" running.(And after searching Forums to Find out "What version is Compatible"?...) So now I see a New DCS GUI. I have to Download all my Modules to It. Fine. Now I look at the "Options" Menu. I have to do ALL of them Again. I see ALL my controllers have Already been Bound to Multiple Axes (Again). Well done on that one ED....I know I can Delete them... and Hopefully I wont miss one. So now I have my Spit, FW ,P51 and Have to Program "EVERYTHING" Again. I couldnt be bothered . Too much Drama. ED , As a Simmer, I want to support you. My opinion is DCS is "All Over the Place". Its 1.5, its 2.0 Alpha and Beta...its 2.5 up and coming. Why Make it so Hard to FLY DCS ? PS Don't tell me How to use LUA files. I just want to Program my Options/ Plane Once in DCS and go Flying. J~S~

Thanks for all you comments lads. I've harped on about this topic before , I know. But I believe it's important moving forward for DCS. We have DCS 2 coming as well as Edge and lots of new stuff on the horizon and I am excited by it all. (20 years ago my Simming was Triangles and outlines)...(OOh I remember when I bought my first 3dFX Voodoo card ). Sorry I digress ! My point is this : NEWCOMERS to DCS !. ...They Have a rig that can Run DCS, Buy their first module and want to go Flying straight away after a little bit of Setup. They jump in and Find Rudder is bound to Pitch, Joystick is bound to Throttle, Sliders are bound to Roll Axis etc etc.. Why make it this Hard For newcomers to DCS. Then they Have search the Forums, Find out what LUAS are ! They want to Fly, They have bought their Favorite Plane to fly DCS (Maybe they are moving From another Flight Game to DCS). I do not want to Sacrifice the the Fidelity of DCS or any of it Modules. I honestly believe that ED can do this Better and make it Easier and more user-Friendly for Pilots that may be joining DCS for the first time. That's it , I have said my piece on this topic. ~S~ to all.

Whats this supposed Prove ? I didn't say I want a GENERIC Gear/Up down for every module. GO check "Trim Nose UP/down" for every module. Why get so Defensive ?

BigNewy ! my win 7 had a virus. So I wanted a Clean Install.. I wasn't Risking any File (especially on a USB Drive. I know that each and every aircraft Is different. I got that. But why should all my controls come "Pre-Bound" to multiple Axis for the same function ! Why do I have to Program Different Keystrokes for the Exact same function. I would think that "canopy open/close" would be the same keystroke in every module. Its not.... And that is just one example of many ..Why cant I program "open/close canopy" for ALL my DCS modules ? Before any of the rest of the 10 year "Hardcore" chime in with their "I can do it in five minutes", I have been flying Lockon /Dcs since Flanker..I have always found the DCS controls menu a pain. I don't know how this affect cockpit Builders ? All I am suggesting is that When I open my DCS controls for the First time, I can start with a Clean Slate. I can Bind my Pitch,rudders etc and SAVE them for ALL modules. I can THEN go to EACH module and "SAVE AS" P51d for example. Then I can save all" Save as" for keystrokes... Again I say I think the Controls menu is dysfunctional especially for newcomers. Also as someone else mentioned.. Scrolling left and right to make sure you haven't missed an Axis that DCS has decided to bind for you. I am sticking with my Opinion. DCS is moving Forward but the Options/controls menu is back in the Eighties. ~S~ to all.

Hi bigNewy... I said Clean Install. I did backups on Win 7. I'm not using them. That's not the point. My OP is about the terrible Options/Controls menu in DCS. ...Axis duplicated and similar controls Separated for each and every module. I think it needs looking at by ed. ~S~

DCS is moving Forward..Controls menu in the Dark ages. Hi all ! I just did a Clean Install of win 10. So I got all my DCS modules back again. Controls Menu : ALL my Devices are BOUND to the SAME Axis !... So TM, Saitek Pedals.Throttle Quad etc all do the Same thing ? OK, no drama, go and Clear Category(scrolling left and right up and down to start again) ! Then I start to program my Axis, Curves and assignments. Done That ? Fantastic ! Now for my next Module ! Do it all again ? Remove the Axis that "Someone" has decided to Bind for me ! And to add to the Chaos, keystrokes for the Same function vary from one module to the next. Is to much to ask that COMMON Flight commands "Pitch",Roll".Rudder, Trim Nose.canopy ,gear etc could All be be set In an DCS Controls menu. Ive got 8 Modules to go. And Then FC3. Ed, this would have to be the most Un-user friendly GUI (INMHO). ~S~

Very informative Klem ~S~ This is a great discussion IMHO ! I fly 3 Sims (when I can). One of them had the worst possible "spotting" issues. Visual target would Disappear and "Warp" past you. It was very frustrating...But they fixed it and I can see Dots, Zoom in to Identify and see them "Materialise" as they get closer !.... I have been flyin DCS since Lock-On (flanker before it)....All jets with radar !...so I always used radar(Close in) to "Point" my eyes and "expect "the target to appear "! I never saw any problem with "Spotting" in DCS !.....Until I flew planes without radar ! Namely the ww2 birds. I know nothing of the technical aspects of Rendering, Lods etc ! I don't know what is a "Realistic" view !...But from a PC simmers point of view,(mine),DCS falls short... in this one area !..The rest of the DCS world is as accurate as can be ! A quick question guys : will the "Edge' make this topic Moot ?..Are Lod improvements factored into Edge ? ~S~ to all

Hi FF. I am a tradesman and know nothing of Economics.....But why does any Buisness have a "Sale" ? Does apple have to have a "Sale" when releasing a new I-phone ? ..No ,people camp out all night to buy it ! A "Sale" (IMHO) is only to Sell a Product that is not selling well enough and /or to attract some new customers. I would Love to to see the the day when "DCS" doesn't need to have a "Sale" to raise cash. Freddie,(IMHO) flightsimmers can be a bunch of Demanding,Arrogant and opinionated people youll ever meet. We are a TINY community that want so much...And Some Want all this for $50 .....Did I mention "Indignation" ? That's what I will get after this Post ! ~S~

Great topic Acoustic ! Recently I read some Forum Topics about what Simmers Want. They want the F-18, F-16,F-14,F104,B17,Mirage just to name a few. They want the correct Battle-Fleets with Carrier "X" and Destroyer "Y" included. They want a FW 190 F instead of the Dora. They want an Edge(or Hormuz) Map that has to be real and accurate, for that timeframe ! I am one of those People (not in every respect) ! Recently I made a Post about a great Magazine I stumbled upon. I thought, I would share it here on the forums. It had 120(great ) pages dedicated to the story of the FW 190 . I paid AU$20 for it. Worth every Cent ! No sooner had I made the post, when some Lowlife Grub (IMHO) posted a Link to Download it for Free..... So everyone downloads it for Free,the Magazine doesnt sell and goes out of buisness ! Well Done Grub , you saved a few Bucks ! Imagine Posting " I Know how to Download all DCS Modules for Free".... My simple response to this Topic is : I know my Hobby or Passion for "Playing Pilot Behind PC " is not exactly "Mainstream" behaviour thesedays. So I realise, I must Pay for what I want ! ~S~

Zaelu, I don't want to see any thing "Simplified" in the Cockpit or otherwise. I simply would like to see a more "Harmonised" GUI for Inputs. That's all ! Whos crying and Complaining about realism ? I thought the topic was about Inputs. Contructive Post !

And If I may add Angst,Canopy Open/close should be the same Keystroke for every Aircraft in the DCS series. I think the whole DCS Controls/Input needs an overhaul. As a new guy to DCS, why do I have to Scour the Forums to find out why Rudders are operating the Throttle from the getgo ? Some people say 10 mins to program a Plane !.. Maybe they have been using this menu for Ten Years ? Some say "you can Edit the Lua File".....What is a Lua file for a newcomer ? Learning to fly an Accurate Representation of an Aircraft is why I love DCS ! The Controls/Input menu is a Nightmare for me... BTW, Happy new Year to all ! ~S~

Somethin else I just thought of Zeke. If you concentrate on RPM and keeping your engine performing at its best. Eventually you will be able to fly without looking at RPM....You will just "Hear" the engine working as it should. you wont have to look down when you shouldnd be lookin down ! ~S~

Good point yo-yo. I am certainly no expert but if I often Switch Planes(Auto/Manual PP),I have gotten into the habit of watching the Tacho most of all. My logic is If my engine is in the "Sweetspot", doestnt matter if Im Climbing Hard or Diving Hard,im getting the best from my engine . Nothing in the Cockpit gives me instant feedback from my engine like the RPM. Temps are valuable but Delayed. ATA really (to me) is just a Reference Point. Just my 2c worth. Hope it helps Zeke ~S~

SOLVED ! Goodnight ,Setting them as slider didn't work alone. Thanks anyhow ~S~. If you look at the Controls Indicator, I am lightly touching Both Toe Brakes. I was wondering why I couldn't Track down the Runway in a Straight line....My toe Brakes were coming on too strong. With this setup,I get 0-100% from the pedal.

Hi all. My Saitek Combat pedals died so I replaced them with Saitek Cessna pedals. Here is my problem. When I touch the Toe Brakes they go Instantly to 50% and from there, the pedal behaves normally to 100%. In Win CP the pedals behave normally ie 0-100%. Ive spent hours playing with saturation,DZ etc. DCS sees my Pedals Starting at 50 %. Makes it very hard taxing the 109/190. Any help would be much appreciated ! ~S~

Hi all ! In my opinion, the DCS/Options/Controls menu is the worst implementation of Controls Binding that I have come across in Any Sim. I now have 14 DCS Aircraft to Program. Ive only setup 2 at this stage. For a first time user,here is what I find. Somone in their Wisdom has Decided To Bind ALL my Devices to multiple Game Keystrokes. So I open the menu to find,My Rudder and Throttle and Saitek Quad are all assigned to the same functions. ......So its off to "Clear Category" again and again. NOW, I can start with a Clean Input. So off I go to test and after a couple of hours of testing while flying, I am Happy with my Setup....Yippe ,now I will save it and bring it with me to my other Aircraft. Forget about that Idea !...Its back to "Clear Category" again and again. Whatever, Ive done that,now I will load my each and every Device Profile and everything will be Fine....None of them Loaded. Ah well ,One Plane Down (No pun Intended),13 to Setup next. Next I find Bindings are diffrent for some Aircraft. Why would Open/close Canopy be Diffrent for the 86 and the K4 ? RWin home for Autostart for some...Lwin home for others ? I dont mean this as a rant ED. Look,I suspect some new Pilots are comin along soon that may come to DCS for that extra "Realism" factor. Its gonna be hard enough learning to fly with all Systems Real. This Controls Menu is going to make it Harder. Please ED (1) Let us start with NOTHING bound. (2)Harmonise (as much as possible) all keystrokes for All Dcs aircraft...IE Trim,Canopy etc (3) Let the user save a generic Profile that overrides all othe input files. Respectfully j ~S~ Edit: my pedals died so I bought new ones. I set up my rudder and toe brakes ant thought, Good to go now!.. Forget about that idea !., They were bound to Throttle/View by Default .... Clear Category Again and Again for each and every Aircraft.

I just don't understand this post ! Are you askin a question ? Are you tryin to prove a point ? Do you really want to hear "Thoughts" ? Why go to so much Effort to Record/post this ? Maybe its just me , I don't get the point of this post.

Thanks Ebs for putting this together. Well explained ! Ive just "JSGME'd a heap of mods and DCS looks so much better ! ~S~ Only issue I had was with Sweet Fx. I was getting a split Screen. When I changed the Txt file from 1 to 0 Dcs was CTD. Anyways, good stuff. ~S~
