Does ED ever consider incorporating user made mods into the core game?
n8d0g replied to MobiSev's topic in DCS Core Wish List
I have a vague recollection that before Deka become a 3rd party and first introduced their Chinese asset pack, they were infact a mod team making J10 and JF17 mods. If so, then I suppose the answer to OP's question is a soft yes. -
Link to my Harrier maverick tutorial, not as detailed as Redkite's (2017 video) but has all the updated buttons and keys to launch the AGM65 maverick as of Nov 2019.

A short guide on how to aim, lock and fire laser guided weapons, such as the S25L, KH25ML and KH29L in the SU25A.

I dont doubt this, but could you point to me where this is listed/written? Just so if anyone in my DCS circle asks I can point it out.

Buccaneer by the BANA Project
n8d0g replied to tombeckett2285's topic in Flyable/Drivable Mods for DCS World
I wonder if the original dev team would be kind enough to release it as-is for private use, even just the external model would probably make a lot of people happy. -

I wonder if the arrival of 2.5 has set the project back? I have no idea what the update actually does in terms of mods. -
This may have been asked before, but will the A4E be carrier capable? I was thinking in context of the carrier that (i believe) is bundled with the F14. Not sure how the technical side of it interacts, perhaps its too early. But I was curious if this is an unknown or known quantity at this point.

Obligatory message to see if the mod is still alive. Hope all is going well! -
You almost make it sound like a disability.
-
If you go back to look at the first few original updates in 2016 and Gospadins videos on youtube, you'll realise this project was not basic from the start and the team had very clearly set a very high bar for themselves. The same goes to the Buccaneer and Tu22 Troika mod, where in reality despite being called a 'mod' are almost as good as the full modules in terms of detail. Of course they might not be as flash as the full mods by studios, its close.

I find this scenario quite unlikely; in my two decades of gaming I have never heard this occur which I suspect are due to legal reasons. My father runs a car club as a registered charity and it's a lot of paperwork. Also, the Pandora's box that is paid mods may put a lot of people off. -
This was discussed earlier on, I think perhaps in the original thread, and it was decided that they would not. Cant remember why.

This makes me feel less hopeful. I have my doubts that ED will negotiate with BAE for something that is free. That seems very....non-corporate. I hope to be wrong, but its not often licensing rights are given away for free. -
I'll be happy with a new skin, the old one is very very dated even by BMS standards. I'm extra happy because it will look much better for video making and stuff for my channel.
-
While I wait for the DCS one, the BMS one is getting a make-over for the Hellas campaign with a second 3D cockpit (first one was actually not bad, but it could use some HD love).

Flying/Fighting-wise, How is the Mig-15 Different from the F-86
n8d0g replied to Bearfoot's topic in DCS: MiG-15bis
Sorry for late reply; I dont visit the forums often! The book is very good, I didnt find it very propaganda-y at all, if anything it was (at least appeared to be ) very honest. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it, learning about how the Red side lived and fought. And actually having read it, it makes you wonder about how inflated the Sabre's kills were in the Sabre vs MIG environment. Some of the issues are broken down: -Skill difference between USSR and DPRK -DPRK's MIG15 vs USSR's MIG15Bis -USSR vs US Sabre I think having read it carefully, it would seem that the Kill-Death ratio between the USSR and US Sabres may in fact be much closer than it is usually published. At the back of the book there are the specific details of the hull losses and kills. Also of interest is the prop/meteor jets in the threate and the early US jets which had little chance against the MIG15. Its also a very nice look into the life of the Soviet aviator in this period, their training and life in general. Lots of action elements woven in between. I seriously recommend this book. -
Game publishers and Dev's do periodically make marketing errors, ED is not the first nor will it be the last. I would also like to point out thout sheer amount of speculations going on in this thread regarding the keys from Steam vs ED. It strikes me that many individuals believe that Steam somehow screwed ED out of business when it's equally likely ED perhaps asked for more than reasonable terms. The fact is no one knows how much more ED makes from Steam but the sheer volume of users and exposure Steam has often makes it a damn good idea to host games there.
-
let the free market decide.
-
I find it very interesting at the least that somehow Steam is portrayed as the root cause and the origins of EDs choice to sell its own keys. Can someone actually source me the reason why Steam didn't want to add keys to to their database in the first place ? There seems to be a lot of , what appears to be, baseless finger pointing and blame shifting.
-
You know that's incredibly ironic that you mention tossing you copy of Battlefield in the bins after EA forced you into origins. Because that's exactly how I feel about moving to standalone. So at least you understand how frustrating this move is for some of us.
-
I dont think ED "needs" steam, I play Steel Beasts and they operate on a very small community. There are ways to do this, such as setting a high cost entry bar or offering your sim services to the military if I were to use Steel Beast as an example.
-
Honestly, this day was long in the coming ever since they pushed out their standalone's keys that was incompatible with steam version. If you followed that path we end up here in our current situation quite naturally.
-
There seems to be much hate to Steam from elements of the DCS community, which is a shame, because Steam is a great platform for the customer/consumer in general.
