  1. Edit: Using this method in my first mp match after splashed 2 with sidewinders. A really good pilot barely evaded 2 more.
  2. So after gaining tone, hold the uncage button until launch, or hold after seeker launch? I am having a hell of a time connecting with these

    Tutorial bug

Ran into a few mistakes on the Training start-up tutorial. When setting the engines to idle, the tutorial text is backwards for the functions, it should read L engine to idle: Ralt+Home & R engine to idle: Rshift+home.
  4. Really I think this comes down to personal preference. Some will be used to the fixed reticle and perform well without the gyro. I do really think, though, that the K14's gyro will increase your accurate shot placements when you learn to use the range finder properly. In the actual aircraft you could turn the range with the throttle handle. I have this on a rotary on the throttle handle, and once you learn to keep the wingspan dialed in, accuracy was increased for myself over planes without the gyro. And I primarily flew in planes without gyro sighting previously (or poorly implemented versions in other games). I do find you can "snipe" with the combination of the gyro sight and the .50 cals on the P51, something that isn't easy on fixed reticle, cannon equipped aircraft in comparison. Personally it's much easier to hit components on the enemy plane to be a fairly big advantage over the fixed sight. I usually cruise with both reticles fully on, then turn off the "clutter" for combat leaving the boresight cross and the gyro only for air-to-air. Like others have said it works as a slip indicator pretty well. In general I like the K14 better than the EZ 42, as you can keep the boresight as well as an increased area of reflex glass. Otherwise I find them both superior to the gunsight in the 109.
  5. I would be interested in this type of mission. Although it would be nice for simpler versions without take-off to be included for escort fighters. It's often something that is lacking in other simulations of the period. Most of the time you take off close to the bombers, climb to escort or intercept depending on the side your on without any of the strategic implications of reality. Some of those implications, though, won't be much fun when flown repeatedly I don't think. Climbing to altitude as an escort, for example, seems to me to be sort of redundant, while the finding of the bombers using navigation or friendly ground radar would be challenging and could effect the outcome of the match. Inversely the interception forces could be spread out on several airfields even and have to form up to best overtake the bombers. They would need to start from take-off, as that is not a redundant part of the mission for them IMO. Another key piece of this would be ground based radar, and radar guiding for the defensive force. How is that piece of the puzzle being solved by ED for the Normandy map? For me this is a very important piece, as the German fighters would have been guided by ground radar for interception and navigation.
  6. My absolute favorite WW2 aircraft, and it's the one I am most excited for. F-14 is, though, really exciting. I wish there was a pre-order for it, as maybe some capital could help entice this along a bit
  7. Wouldn't the Meredith effect cancel out any negatives of having the rads fully open?
  8. Amazing work, can't wait :)
  9. Which was most of my point, only the IX is first. I think when people think Spitfire they think of the IX first anyway, which is probably why ED is doing it first. @Ala13_ManOWar & @rel4y Sure the IX will be just fine performance wise as we will get a turn fighter to mix up styles a bit. For me, though, it just fits in as a mid-war, not late-war plane. The ED offerings so far are all late war planes. VEAO hopefully will finish the XIV, they are working on quite a few other planes so I doubt we will see it for a long time yet. Bearcat will probably be earlier. On the F verses the G on the 109, the late F's had similar performance to the G series, so it also would be able to mix well with a mid-war release (just like a IX spit would mix well with late war in performance), whereas the B-D models would fit in with the early war stable of planes and just wouldn't have the performance unless the pilots where not anywhere near equal skill.
  10. Tested it. At level flight at max power and rads open it held at about 360 mph right at the ground with stable temps for quite a while. Didn't use WEP, so the guy was probably using WEP part of the time at the very least, which would give higher bursts. IF he dove in at a much higher speed, you could probably hold above that for quite a while too.
  11. Which is why the IX should have been a XIV to compete as we are looking at late 44. Now if we were flying FW190A's, BF109 F/G sure the IX makes sense. It's top speed is only around 408 mph. VEAO is supposed to be working on the XIV, though, which is much more powerful.
  12. Seems about right would have to test it for sure.
  13. No mustang cannot use emergency power constantly. At low alt, though, you can throw both the coolers open fully and not drop speed and run 60" @3000 for a long time before blowing the engine.
  14. I got one from Amazon that did have the coupon about a month ago. I cannot, however, get the coupon to work. It has either 0 or O in the code and I have tried both. Supposedly there used to be an issue with these coupons not working, but the threads I have seen said the issue was resolved in September of 2013. I have a support ticket in right now (I really want to use it on the Sabre module).
  15. Hey guys, new to the forums. Going to start jumping into MP action soon. Finally beat the FW without killing my engine last night :) and staying behind him has been easier the last couple tries as well. Going to work on my takeoffs and landings, and get a few more actions mapped to my HOTAS. Wondering some good time-frames to jump in. I usually play nights around 9pm-1am central time.
