  1. so if i were to land on grass what should i keep a close eye on? speed and decent speed? breaks or no breaks? trim? so far i've mainly been trying to focus on the slip indicated to get the straightest landing possible :joystick:
  2. well at least i know it isn't totally impossible, looks like i have some practicing to do :smartass:
  3. now trust me i'm no expert on this but i've seen a ton of footage from WWII where the aircraft would be taking off from fields rather than concrete runways, however in dcs it's pretty clear that trying to takeoff or land on any grassy area is pretty much suicide  i think it would be really cool if we got some sort of grassy airfield for the WWII modules, especially with the VEAO and dcs spits coming 'round the corner, it just seems more fitting than having your home base be a modern airport :P
  4. i have to say i thought this was long dead but wow this really did make my day many thanks
  5. i mean not a WHOLE lot but it's still just nice for authenticity, plus it's one less button to take up space on your joystick or throttle
  6. i was just wondering why there isn't any axis command for toebraking because if i am not mistaken, the T-10S had them installed which carried over to the Su-27 either that or i just missed them :P
  7. well it appears that fate has either chained be back or thrown be a bone in terms of what i should pick because i just noticed that the CH throttle is out of stock so i guess the deciding factor would be if it can come back in stock once i actually have the money ready :P
  8. after a lot of research and thinking and reading of these comments i think i will be going with the cH stick/throttle/pedals  a very big thanks to everyone who replied, your input was very useful! :D
  9. thank you all for your input :smartass: rudder pedals shouldn't be a problem as i'm operating with a price range of about 450$-475$ another question i should probably ask is how flexible are the x55 and CH stick/throttle in terms of variety? i range from all dcs products to falcon bms to more arcade-type games like war thunder to simple fly around games like FSX and prepar3D, i think i would be leaning on the x55 for that seeing as the CH throttle has much less range in functionality also on a bit of a side note i'm still wrapping my head around the x55 software and programming, is it not possible to simply input desired commands through the dcs control menu (or any other game control menu at that) or is it really buggy?
  10. so a little while back i made a x55 or warthog post but after doing some more digging i found some interesting stuff about the CH sticks/throttle (the thrustmaster is simply just not an option due to price vs what i think it really is worth in terms of practicality and flexibility with other modules and sims) i heard that CH actually designs sticks for real world usage ie construction vehicles and military sticks but anywho i was wondering how it would hold up against the apparently flashy but sometimes unreliable x55. one point that was brought up in the video i watched was how while it may be plastic on the outside the actual system is metal which i found interesting. however i am a bit wary of the throttle, i'm a bit concerned with the lack of switches and rotaries, although there is certainly no shortage of hat switches :P. no doubt because they are rather clearly based off of the stick and throttle of the F-16 it seems like it would be certainly good for BMS but what about DCS? i'm not too worried about other more relaxed games like Il-2 and war thunder. finally if i do choose the CH stick/throttle over the rhino, should i get the fighterstick or the combatstick? a trim hat seems a little awkward for use as a tms/dms/castle switch/whateveryouwannacallthem and if i wanted to i could use one of the very plentiful hat switches on the throttle to serve as a dms switch leaving the hat on the stick for slewing or vise versa the reason i came to here was because of the severe lack of videos on it that were not just for elite dangerous or star citizen so please good people of the ED forums shower me in your thoughts and opinions :smartass:
  11. a few times i noticed that at high speeds (usually above mach 1) the aircraft begins shaking and when i look behind me the rudder are flapping away like flags in a strong wind, it isn't an every time thing to happen so i was wondering if it was simply part of the pfm and what causes it :P
  12. thanks for your help! these should prove to be very helpful
  13. in the F-15 if you end up locking a friendly you have multiple notifications that it's friendly, the target lock box has an X in it and plus you can even identify the aircraft on the radar screen. now jump over to the Su-27 and say you're in a bit of a furball and there are friendlies and enemies everywhere but you have a very limited amount of time to check and a visual check simply isn't going to work given the confusion, how do you know that you aren't about to splash a friendly? is there some sort of HUD symbology? i originally thought that it would simply deny you the LA queue but that doesn't seem very helpful because say you're in BVR mode and you lock someone up but you happen to be like me and think that the only way to tell if it's friendly is if you don't get the LA when you get in range, that means that you have to chase down the target until you get in range and see if you get LA this could be total nonsense and i could just be blind but any help would be great :D
  14. reading these i wonder if it really is just the load. i had this problem after starting a create a fast mission and i just went with the default load they give you, maybe that was the problem?
  15. i find that it's actually helpful in multiplayer for signalling that you're on a runway if someone is about to take off at the same time given the disorganization and chaos that's going on. also if say you crash/emergency land and you're stuck on the runway until you can be repaired it's a good way of getting other people's attention as a warning for when they takeoff or land :P
  16. now i'm not an expert on the warthog and this very well just be part of the sim and all but let's say i have a significantly heavier right wing load and it's causing instability, so the obvious thing to do is to trim it to the left right? well when i do that the aircraft becomes INSANELY unstable to the point where no matter how perfectly i trim it to counter the wonky directional movement i still can't even keep it stable with autopilot on. does the horizontal trim only effect rudder input? because based on how the aircraft responds it seems like that's what's going on. it's literally impossible to fly like this, it's like trying to fly a plane that's balancing on a unicycle on a tightrope :P [EDIT] this should have gone in the bugs and problems section apologies everyone
  17. jeez thanks everybody, i guess i will settle for the warthog and cheap pedals! (also revan i found a warthog for about 400$ and i already have a trackir )
  18. that's a neat idea! has the dms hat given you any problems? especially when trying to push it to the right
  19. first im gonna start by saying yes i know this topic has probably been done to DEATH but i thought i would present my situation to see what would work for me right now. my budget is about 475$ and i could either get an X55 and flashy rudder pedals or a warthog with like 90$ CH pro pedals. i was at first set on the X55 but after i stumbled upon a video made by ralfidude which brought to light a lot of the issues of the X55, i was definitely leaning more towards the warthog. HOWEVER it's worth mentioning i have slightly bigger than average and slim hands, which i heard makes the X55 more accessible. i also like the 3 different profiles, but i really wouldnt be too heartbroken if i went with the warthog and kept using the keyboard for less essential commands like landing gear. i kind of wish that you could still get the cougar but even if i did get it i hear the software is seriously outdated. stiction is also big concern of mine in the case of the warthog, and im not too keen on taking it apart to the bare minimum to fix that issue. SO dear people of dcs what do you think? should i get the cheaper X55 or the big bad beefy warthog and try and scrape in some more money for cheap rudder pedals? [EDIT] another thing im concerned about is the throttle. i REALLY like the switches on the warthog throttle, not so much on the rhino. the rhino's hat switches, from what i understand, are so small that it's incredibly hard to use them as say a china hat switch, as well as the fact that it's very easy to bump them both while trying to access just one of them]
  20. i honestly like the idea of the dirty canopy, but there's just too much to the point where it is a really crippling factor in 1 on 1 situations especially in certain weather conditions.
  21. yeah, another thing that has me a little concerned is the rather limited storage capability within the internal bays, and yeah you can always put them under the wing but there goes the stealth that serves as the F-35's main advantage on the battlefield i think that the F-35 would be great alongside the new super duper hornet too, and the silent eagle looks pretty neat. oh and real quick on the budget thing, the F-35 program has cost the U.S. the same amount of money needed to buy every homeless american a mansion. we spend more on our military budget than all other major military powers COMBINED, so yeah i wouldn't be too worried about america being in any real danger (or at least any danger that would directly threaten you)
  22. hi i just thought i would drop in here to give my 2 cents on the F-35 what i'm worried about is facing another situation like vietnam, when the U.S. had just unlocked the true potential in air to air missiles, but forced it on their planes too much. take the phantom for example, it had nothing but it's missiles to rely on, no gun, and needless to say that greatly hindered it's capabilities, especially during "dogfights". now here we are with the F-35 and the F-22, and we're so hell bent on integrating stealth technology into air warfare that we are throwing billions of dollars down the drain over a fighter that MIGHT see combat. as an air to air fighter? sure i wouldn't downplay it's capabilities. as a precision bomber? yeah i don't see why not. for close air support? the very idea is laughable, and not (completely) because of the planes capabilities, but because planes like the A-10 can take a punch, many punches. the F-35 with it's fragile air frame seems pretty easy to down, and there goes aaaall 100+ million dollars right into the ground, and possibly a good pilot as well. plus what would you rather have protecting you? a hulking tank of a jet with a massive armament and 30mm canon that would make anyone dive for cover at the very sound of it, or a very high tech paper airplane? i'm personally very interested in seeing where the F-35 is going to end up in the years to come, but mostly in the air to air role [edit] feel free to contradict me on this! i would really like to hear other's opinions on the F-35 directly compared to mine
  23. it's not perfect but whoever makes these mods is incredibly talented! i haven't tried the raiden myself but i would seriously take a look into it http://virtualcockpits.web.fc2.com/mod/dcsw_raiden21/dcsw_raiden21.html --- also on a side note what about a wake island map?
  24. if only we could enjoy flying around those tropical dirt masses in a zero or hellcat... ah well people can dream
  25. sounds good! thanks a bunch guys
