Entering a Course into PVI-800 A quick video on how to set your waypoints as a "course" in the PVI-800. The PVI lacks common sense, and normally you would think it would follow your waypoints in order as they were entered(like the ABRIS). But it does not, and you must tell it in which order you would like to fly the current waypoints. These steps are very simple to do, and requires only seconds to accomplish. You will not need to do this with "pre-planned" waypoints thru the mission editor. However if you manually enter them, such as in BlueFlag you will need to tell the PVI the order. Reaper6

I appreciate your feedback and kind words, it is my pleasure to share my knowledge with the community. Even though it is one of the oldest modules in DCS, my hopes are to bring more pilot interest back into flying the KA50. Reaper6

That's probablly your best bet, WalMart has some cheap screens and I bought 3 of them(less than $100 each). I also use a cheap NextBook for my kneeboard, although I dont have it connected to DCS. But it has airdrome charts, preflights, CAS 9-lines etc. Latency might also be an issue when sending your Shkval over your network. Reaper6

You may want to try in this section https://forums.eagle.ru/forumdisplay.php?f=96 I believe you need to pay for some program to make this possible, from what I have been told. Reaper6

Destroying Convoy w/JTAC So was just reading thru the forums, and found this gem(https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=93228). It allows you to speak with JTAC as well as AWACS, apparently it's been there for a while. But if you don't have it, I recommend installing it! Reaper6 P.S. Near the end you can see one of the crunchies getting an AP round to the face...:gun_smilie:

Adjusting VNAV settings Screenshots should be better for explaining how to change settings for VNAV as well as "Message Strings" and Performance Settings. I rarely pay much attention to the message strings, but some what useful in certain cases. Reaper6

I say round 9 should be AI only, we just get to watch and see how it all plays out. Reaper6

Quick guide for VNAV After putting up a video for instrument navigation, this goes along with navigating in low visibility, and also used for airport operations. VNAV does not transfer any data to any of your guages other than inside ABRIS. But it is a good tool used for route planning. Most people generally dont want to bother with it, but if you do this shows you the basics of its operation. Also in the video I talk about airdrome charts, you can google DCS airdrome charts and download the lot of them. Also a handy tool to have navigating around airfields and imersing yourself into DCS. Thank you, it's always great to fly with you. I did do some testing with this theory in multiplayer. I tried once with staying on the same team in 104th, then switching sides on 104th, and then switching servers all together trying it and then coming back to 104th. -If you stay same side and same FARP it does store the data. -If you switch sides on the same server it will not save the data. Even after switching back. -If you leave the server and go to another server it will not transfer over. -If you come back to the original server the data was not stored. It did save the ADDITIONAL.lua under ABRIS/DATABASE in the .miz file, so that's pretty interesting. Is this the same outcome you have experienced? I'm pretty sure it is only good for one instance, as long as you dont leave the server. then there is a new .trk file created. Reaper6

You did all the heavy work, I was merely your escort. I give transport Helis mad respect in BlueFlag, I was horrible at it myself. I'm not sure if it would work with the number of FARPs, different slots, and ever changing mission. But I guess in theory it should, I've never tried it in multiplayer but great feedback if it works! You earned your +1 Reaper6

Have you accomplished this in BlueFlag? Reaper6

Instrument Navigation/Landing in KA50 I put together a video of a combination of things. I chopped up the video, because I seriously doubt you want to watch a 45 minute flight in nothing but fog. I highlted the use of different systems to navigate with and exp-lanations along the way. Some of the systems include; HSI, ADI, ABRIS HSI page, Desired Track and its detailed use, NDBs & ARK22, Flight Director and its visual cues on the HUD. Although this may not be specifically used in BlueFlag events, unless it's crappy weather or some night operations. It does give a general overview of how to navigate with nothing but your instruments. I wanted to add some explanation of the ABRIS VNAV function, but I chose to leave it out to explain better in a future video. Just note that the waypoints were inputted thru Mission Editor, so some displays may differ when you enter them manually. Especially thru the PVI, there is no way to enter Ground Speed or Altitude for each waypoint thru the PVI. Again sorry about the "chopped up" video, but hopefully some will get a better understanding of instrument flying with the KA50. Some of this is also useful in planning attack routes, especially at night or in low visibility. Or even if you have a human JTAC/FAC giving you specific headings to attack from. I've always been a fan of flying the KA50 in the worst weather possible, so when it's great weather it makes it that much easier! Reaper6

+1 for that! (Edit: But seriously... Leave my KA50 alone lol) Reaper6

Since I started making videos, I have been really interested in doing "GunCam" footage. I appreciate all the assistance in making this possible by the way! This gives a better view of how my Shkval/MFD is setup on a seperate monitor and the use of Helios. I have been uploading some of the footage here: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=2891476#post2891476 Reaper6

KA50 vs 2 AH-64 Apaches Reaper6

I only zoomed in on the Shkval for the purposes of the video, basically to show what would show up as a tiny dot. Usually I am glancing back and forth constantly between the Shkval and out the front window. Other than this video my Shkval is on a separate monitor, which is easier for me to do. You want to spot them as far out as possible, considering they have radar and can spot you well beyond visual range. There has only been a handful of situations where they will fire radar missiles at me. Heaters and guns work to my advantage, because they need to come closer. As far as off-axis I would say 75% of the time they end up this way. Because I have either come to a hover or landed once I have spotted them. If they don't see me and continue moving, I prefer that so I am able to continue on without making myself known. Many times in BlueFlag I have just let them fly over head, and then call it in to the CAP team. I prefer taking out ground targets, but there are just scenarios when it isn't possible. If they already know you're in the area, it's kill or be killed... Reaper6

You're right, I don't like that too much lol. Taking away Vikhrs from the KA50 would be absurd, for the sole purpose of making Blue feel better. Given the match up between the A10C and SU25, the matchup between the KA50 and Gazelle equals out. The Gazelle has guided missiles, and now from my understanding A2A missiles. There is never going to be an equal to the KA50 in the game, other than another KA50. Even if you added a flyable AH-64 for blue, wouldn't make a difference IMO. Of course I am very biased when it comes to the KA50! If blue wants KA50, give it to them... Makes no difference to me. I personally think no matter what scenario you set for the next round there will be complaints(from both sides of course). I do like some of your suggestions, but leave my beloved KA50 out of it lol. Scanning for Air Threats. I wanted to make a video on how to scan for enemy air threats using various systems in the KA50. No matter which multiplayer server it always seems to be a constant issue, Fighter pilots generally think it's an easy kill when it comes to Helis. More times than not when I shoot an aircraft down, I'm called some type of hack or cheat. But that's a topic for another day! It is possible to spot jets at 40-50km out, IF you know what to look for and use the proper scanning technique. I use the ABRIS to plan possible enemy routes. The Shkval scan mode to search visually within those threat routes. And just looking out the window also helps! My very first "guns" kill on a Jet was last night, and perhaps by dumb luck. I recieved a Laser warning from my 12 o'clock, I was in a city so I popped up to take a look. There right in front of my face was a jet nose hot at about 4km out. Selected HMS and guns and sprayed the hell out of the air, and killed him. So the point of the story is don't let any of your systems go unchecked, even your LWS can be an indicator of trouble. So here is an example of how to setup your KA50 for air engagements, and how to scan for air threats. It is by no means an easy task, but like with anything practice makes it easier. I also made the video to show that there is nothing magical going on in my cockpit when I spot air threats. I do normally run my Shkval and ABRIS on seperate monitors, which makes it somewhat easier. But for this I just used the plain old cockpit to show it is possible. Reaper6

Proper way to accuratley employ bombs in KA50
Reaper6 replied to Reaper6's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Submunitions aren't generally my first option, and there aren't really any multiplayer missions I would use them for. I have only really used them for self made missions, where I need to destroy a combat outpost, enemy FARP, or troops scattered around in a city. In these cases the KMGU is highly effective vs rockets or gunning each target separately(Just my opinion). You can cover a very large area with submunitions, depending on your AGL. I would most certainly not use these for tank targets of any type, at most would be M113s or artillery batteries. I do agree they aren't easily employed rapidly, but with practice they can be. Sorry about spoiling your future campaign, but I do thank you for your feedback. some pilots to me seemed confused of how to employ these weapons the way the system was designed to do. Plus I have been having a bit of fun making videos, I have just recently started doing videos. Reaper6 -
I have to add my two cents, and defend my beloved BlackShark. Considering I purchased and have learned both the A10C and the Ka50, I mainly only fly the Ka50 though. The A10C was pretty simple to learn the systems, even air refueling not that difficult. I personally wouldn't categorize it as "really hardcore", considering the systems do most of the work for you. The A10C is mostly computerized(if I may use that term) which makes it extremely user friendly, provided you can read the manual and watch a few YouTube videos. The Ka50 on the other hand is all about the pilot and his skill. The closest thing you have to anything resembling a computer is the ABRIS and a 1950s TV screen. You don't carry any A2A missiles, other than Vikhrs w/A2A fuze. There is no RWR which lets you know a missile is coming for you. The Ka50 takes massive amounts of situational awareness if you want to survive any type of combat mission. Of course I am extremely biased when it comes to the BlackShark, since I have been flying it since its first release. I would say each aircraft have their own levels of difficulty for each individual. But I for one have never been bored flying around in my Ka50, 7 years later I am still learning new things about the Shark. No offense was intended for the A10 pilots out there, but "really hardcore" is a bit of a stretch I think... Reaper6

Proper way to accuratley employ bombs in KA50
Reaper6 replied to Reaper6's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
KA50 using AO-2.5RT submunitions KA50 is able to use the KMGU it can be filled with(you can use one or the other, but NOT both): 96 AO-2.5RT high explosive Anit-Personnel 96 PTAB-2.5KO anti-tank and an anti-personnel capability Only a few things change from dropping dumb bombs. Your ballistic data selector (#9 for AO-2.5RT/#10 for PTAB-2.5KO), and your release point. You must press your weapons release at least 1.5-2 seconds before the target area. this gives time for the KMGU doors to open, and the BKF cassettes to cycle out the submunitions. PTAB-2.5KO is probablly your best loadout since you can destroy light-skinned, light-armored as well as personnel targets. From my experience neither submunitions will destroy modern tanks. Just a side note, you must PRESS & HOLD the weapons release until all submunitions have been released. Reaper6 -
Proper way to accuratley employ bombs in KA50

Using ABRIS as Bomb Sight I tried doing the video at night, but wasn't able to follow the bombs. I used dense fog and crappy weather for a better example. Using the ABRIS instead of looking thru the Shkval is just as accurate in any conditions though. Reaper6
