This could as well be a risk-sharing model for future commercial development of DCS. A way to give other companys access to DCS which then becomes THE backbone of military simulations.

DCS: Black Shark - Q&A **READ FIRST!**
ThunderChief replied to EvilBivol-1's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
I thought the ABRIS would permit to share recon data between Ka-50. What the advantage of marker rockets? -
Maybe you will need a 21-in-1 card reader :P
-
That would be cool. I once played Mi-24 HIИD and it I liked the old-shool weapon system and so on....
-
Okay so will the DCS Hind be closer to the 80's (e.g. without MWS) or an up to date version?
-
Is there anything compareable to Shkval or ABRIS or is it closer to Su-25 techology?
-
I'd also like high quality addons but if the learning curve is to steep, only few people will master creating addons at all. If people like Stratus would get a chance to start at a lower quality and thus can lern and improve gradually, chances might be higher than more high quality addons will be made in the end. IMHO requeiring the same quality as DCS build in aircraft might even scare away commercial addon maker, because the risk and work put into an addon could be far greater than compareable addons (like MSFS) and the community (thus market) is even smaller (maybe? dunno ;)) ---- Thinking about it again it might make perfectly sense to not sell those addons seperatly but directly through Eagle Dynamics (as I understand the intension of 3rd party anouncement)

What are the major diffrences between Ka-50 and Mi-24 (the type that will/might be featured in DCS)? Which systems (avionics/weapons etc.) are more complex and what impact will that have on gameplay (besides 2-man crew and troop transport)? Thanks!
-
How comes I see a Jaguar (@6:09). Is it featured in BS?
-
I am no expert on this but I think modelling even an aircraft without complex avionics to the standards of DCS is not to easy. Just think about what you would have to model for a UH60: -conventional rotor (not coaxial) -flightmodel including things like vortex ring states, icing etc. -damage model -ground ops -communication -operational procedures for wingman (?) -cargo handling It would be interresting to get an offical statement from DCS what level of realism would be required as future DCS version might be even more realistic than DCS:BS.

Any info on that cannon? 20mm?

Add Poland to coalition selection
ThunderChief replied to VMFA117_Poko's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
I would say it should be possible to create new countries or even rebel groups etc. for custom missions, and let the mission builder decide what aircraft etc. this country can use. -
Could it be that you are talking about two different things? I am sure NO expert about radar butI think Feuerfalke ist talking about continuous wave radar and Rhen about pulse doppler radar? The diffrence would be that the moving of the rotor blades would reduce the RCS of the helo for the CW radar, but contrary is the only way of detecting a hovering helicopter by pulse doppler radar, right? Correct me if i am wrong, but as any motion of the blades would cause a frequency shift and a pulse doppler radar will "see" any refelction close to it's operating frequency, the rotating rotor disc will be dected, as long as the blades will cause any reflection at all. Besides that I think even if not everything what Feuerfalke said was true its not very nice to examine every sentence and making fun of it.

Strategic Bombers in future installment?
ThunderChief replied to Buren's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Think about a whole campain with no mission under 30+ hours flying from continental USA to Caucasus theatre and back. And the missionbuilder decided that the autopilot will always fail 5 minutes after takeoff... Seriously where is the fun dropping a load of JDAMs from 40k feet? You wouldn't even see them hitting their target. But it still sounds better than flying virtual passangers ;) -
Similar to helicopter rotor blades are the fan-blades of jet engines, which can also be detected by radar and allow to identify the type of engine/airplane. Hiding those fan-blades is a mayor problem of stealth aircraft. As helicopter rotor blades are much larger you can asume that they are fairly easy to detect by radar in theory. But on the other hand it depends wether the radar software is capable of doing so.

DCS: Black Shark - Dev Updates - 09 July 2008
ThunderChief replied to Wags's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Just curious if you can actually see the icing? -
But I guess if you fly high enough to get out of your own bombs danger zone you'll catch a stinger or two and that IS firework ;)
-
Droping two 500kg bombs low and slow sounds like fun.
-
Having no RWR is just one thing less to care about in combat as you couldn't do much about a hostile fighter anyway.
-
It might be a bit off topic but speaking about SAMs I wonder if you could evade a SAM by flying very low? Is there a certain altitude where a SAM (like SA-6/SA-10) would lose lock on you? I don't mean hiding behind terrain but some kind of signal interference in close proximity to the ground. And is something like that modeled in DCS?
-
I just saw the pictures of the new Tornado model and I just wanted to report a minor problem. AFAIK the Tornado can't extend the airbrakes when thrust reversers are active because the reversed airflow would hit the airbrakes...

Could anyone explain why you can collide with buildings but not with trees? where is the difference? if a wood would be modelled like one big building, there shouldn't be much more individual trees/woods than buildings i guess.
