I am a bit late but thank you for this great update. Its a pleasant surprise.
-
It strange but as I remeber it was visible in the same mission after release.

In the cold start tutorial at the master test phase of the fire warning ligths I get something like this. I have tried it with few different grapical settings but it was always like this.

[KNOWN ISSUE] Cold Start Training Mission (Sliding Plane)
Sharkh posted a topic in Bugs and Problems
Sorry I am not sure if its already reported or not . I have done the cold start training mission many times and it seems the "standstill" plane slinding to the right always. By the end of the tutorials I am next to the parking FA-18s while at the start they are far away. One time I left the tutorial running and when I got back the plane was floating in the air and the carrier was away. :D I know its a minor issue I just wondered if it has been reported yet. -
A few months ago I have seen at the unofficial roadmap thread about that the combined arms 2.0 is in work in progress state . Sorry if I did miss something and it was asked before but is there any news about the state of this progress and and the content of this possible huge update? I have the module for about a year but I have rarely used it because it was fun for a while messing around but it felt a bit half baked. I would love to hear about its progress. :D Thanks for the answers in advance.

Its interesting to see that the prices of these modules are always in question by some of the flight sim players while their equipment probably worth multiple times the amount DCS Costs with all its module together. I have just done a quick math and I found that DCS cost about 1500$ with all of its plane , heli, and terrain modules (FC3 included) (if you buy all of them on full price without any bonus or discount and special deal used) (EU) . Well I think my mid range PC worth about the same I have to upgrade in every few year. (without my hotas, screen, and sound system) I have spent about 200$ on my Rhino X55 a few years ago (its ok but not the best) just to play DCS and Elite:Dangerous while I have enjoyed them for many hours during these years and still have spent less on the modules I have got during this time . So personally I found the prices of these modules very reasonable considering this hobby is not mainstream and developers of these product have to make it somehow profitable with a much smaller audience while also making quality product just as it is expected in a genre like this . (The only modules I bought on full prices had been NTTR and the F-18 because I was impatient and it will be the same with the F14 I guess because I was very satisfied with the Viggen after I bought it and I trust Heatblur :D)

I don't mind buying digital copies nowadays but I miss those nicely printed manuals from the past. That would be great if DCS modules would have an option to buy their manuals (nicely printed and colored) after they are finalized.

I got it now. That sound distortion in the end shocked me at first because I though my speakers went crap but than I investigated with different speakers and realized its an intentional effect I guess. I wonder if others had the same "shock". ehh :D Thanks for your suggestions!

Is there a link/way to download the trailer to my HDD? I have tried to use different download helper on YT but no luck yet. (nothing worked) I would love to watch this trailer on repeat until the ea release. :D Well Done!

** DCS-F14 PRE-ORDER NOW AVAILABLE! Gameplay Reveal Video Update **
Sharkh replied to Cobra847's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
The trailer is one of the coolest sim trailer I have seen. The music, the cutting, the sound… beautiful! I guess it will sell the plane even to those who are not sim enthusiast. :D Well done "trailer makers"! (I have watched it 10 times in a row and got goosebumps a few times although I was not hyped about the release before :D ) -
Let us shoot pilots out of the sky after they eject
Sharkh replied to Mohamengina's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Its strange to me how someone can put an equal sign between shooting down a pilot in the cockpit(armed for combat) or ejected . I think its not the same at all even in a game. Its a simulation what is trying to simulate realistic air combat. Its not an arcade shooter based on fiction like doom so the comparison is ridiculous. So if we stick to realism than shooting down ejected pilots is like shooting down an unarmed soldier with his hands in the air so I think it does not belong to this game (not the feature but the actual action itself and that someone wants to do it) and even if its just a game in MP it would be only good to show disrespect and perform an unsportsmanlike action. If its a thing for some killing imaginary defenseless pixels on screen than I think this is not the best genre for that. (don't forget the op also asked for blood splatter and dismemberment ehh...) -

Sharkh replied to Mohamengina's topic in DCS Core Wish List
I wouldn't have a problem with this feature if it would be already there. You can do this in real life also I guess (but normally nobody will do it). My problem is the possible reason behind why the OP thought that this is a worthy addition to this list. The problem is that I think he just wanna shoot down other pilots in MP and he didn't ask for it because of realism. Killing ejected pilots with the only purpose to get some revenge or something in MP would be a very "arcadish" action. As I know the focus of this "game" is "creating a sandbox" for simulating realistic air combat situations for a possible mature audience and not to be an Esport for "kids" who wanna do "unrealistic" things just because "its just a game so they wanna have a tool to poke others in MP" Btw I don't know about others but I draw a line even in games like don't shoot at people unarmed hands in the air, kill children, (hunt defenseless ejected pilots) etc. sure if its your thing thats fine. I have read some strange comments here "defending" this suggestion like "we are killing civilians here with cluster bombs already" "mass murder simulation" "Its just a game" "too much political correctness in here" I would say .... First. Who told you we are killing civilians here? Its just your imagination and your fantasy maybe I guess. Its a sandbox we "kill"/destroy objects. The only exception are the foot soldiers but I guess thats "normal" in a wartime situation. Second. I think most of the DCS:W player are probably a HC simulator enthusiast who prefer realism and immersion so they won't shoot ejected pilots because that is not realistic at all. Its not about PC so stop that please…. Third. "Its just a game" No, I think its more of a simulation than a game. So I think nobody should compare this to games like GTA than talking about the morality of an action in a game and how its is normal because "its just a game" . -

Sharkh replied to Mohamengina's topic in DCS Core Wish List
DCS:World is a simulation and in reality nobody will hunt "ejected pilots" . Because it is not the objective to destroy enemy pilots but enemy planes in the first place. Its like shooting surrendering opponents with hands in the air. Even in a real war a military division is not a playground for psychopaths but an "establishment" with leadership and order not to mention that fighter pilots are carefully selected individuals so I doubt that it will be easy to get into their ranks with such mental state. Even if this is not real life adding such feature in a simulation would be like adding flying cows. ehh -
Need help with bombing in radar release mode
Sharkh replied to corvinus's topic in DCS: AJS37 Viggen
But now we know why thanks to the official reply. Sorry I haven't tried navigation bombing before nor this so I had no idea that its the same. I just found away to hit the targets in your track. but even if its misplaced we could be able to adapt and find out which position is the 3km using the PPI. I guess this mode is there to correct small navigation errors than. Edit: so I have tested and talked about Nav bombing the entire time everybody here seems familiar with . Now I feel dumb. :D -

Need help with bombing in radar release mode
Sharkh replied to corvinus's topic in DCS: AJS37 Viggen
I have tested the mission and RR further and now I think I was right that this release mode is semiauto. I have played the mission 3 times same speed same altitude, same time pressing release etc. so everything the same. Except I set different QFEs 1st test run - I set the accurate QFE of the target waypoint I set my speed to 8.4 mach and pressed release at right after the waypoint distance instrument went below 3km. It was a perfect hit. 2nd test run- I have done everything the same except QFE set to higher(wrong QFE) so the settings was higher and the computer expected we are on a higher altitude from the ground and guess what happened the bombs fall short and it felt the release happened sooner. 3rd test run - I have set the QFE lower(wrong QFE) so the computer expected we are on lower altitudes than in reality than the bombs fall long and it felt the release happened later. So if the release button press was done at the same time with same speed same alt and the release happened the same time (so manual release) than this could only happen if the bombs would have some computer guided surface to make them fly differently (as far as I know these are simple bombs so they don't have anything like that) or it happened because the release time was controlled by the computer. Than I have tried all of this(3 test above) on lower speed (0.7mach) also and the result was the same why I felt also that the computer also try to calculate the lower speed so every release happened a bit later. So I am pretty sure the release is semiauto . After I practiced this a lot by now I think that its the most accurate while going above 0.8 mach with a very precise QFE set and release pressed at about 2.8km from the target waypoint(waypoint distance instrument ) Ahh and I also realized you don't have to enter any code (I guess the 251 is set as default in DCS so it doesn't have be entered) -
+1 Skandinavia MAP "bordering" with CCCP to be able to simulate a possible cold war encounter . :D

Need help with bombing in radar release mode
Sharkh replied to corvinus's topic in DCS: AJS37 Viggen
Maybe I am wrong but as I understand this bombing method the bomb release is done semiauto so when you press release the bomb is not released "instantly" like normal because the radar wait for a different return other than flat than its release the bomb as soon as it get a radar return of something else. Thats why its called radar release I guess and thats why it is suggested to be used only at a coastal location where the surface is flat possibly so its easier to the radar to "detect" a possible bigger "unnatural" object. So if the conditions are ok for this release , flat surface, proper mission planning with a radar fix on the last waypoint(ingress speed set) before the target waypoint than a single building or bigger object can be hit consistently I think . I think its not about guessing its about practice and accurate navigation than you will deal an accurate shoot with the proper speed on the suggested altitude. As far as I understand you have to be at 400 meter altitude(radar altitude at target waypoint so QFE has to be set and use QFE to set your alt) in this mode always because this is the hud is set every time in this mode with RR release and master mode ANF so you only have to guess the speed what is not really a guess after you practiced this. (wind can affect it obviously in reality) Yes its not very reliable and accurate method but I think its far from back magic and the best shoot you can have in low visibility conditions. I wonder if I am wrong or not about that the "radar"/computer decide when to release the bombs(in RR mode) because thats how it feels exactly but it seems you think that this is manual release? I haven't find anything about this in the "book" or on the internet but I think the release done automatically by the computer/radar after a few sec the release button have been pressed. Anyway it seems it works for me every time I press release at 3km with a speed 0.80+mach at 400m from the ground. -
Personally I don't see the point either. Yes there are probably more sale at steam but in my experience the big sales with higher discounts usually happens the same time both here and at steam. I also doubt that the steam version crashes less because I think that is exactly the same version I think (unless you use the beta here while using the stable at steam and sometimes some bug goes into the beta build so it might crashes more) Or you just forget to update your game manually with the standalone after fixes and while that process is done automatically at steam. Its funny... I read the steam forum daily and there some users are sad also that they can't transfer over to standalone. :D

I am not sure but I doubt there will be dx12 since Vulkan will replace DirectX completely as I know, beside DX12 proven to be a slightly better only compared to DX11 if there is a difference at all (in practice).

There is an old thread about the different camera types and its settings and recording replays with a lot of reply so you might find something useful there just as I did . https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=114260 edit: @Part121 My reply and your thread was moved here after I replied so don't be surprised that my link pointing to here. :D

Need help with bombing in radar release mode
Sharkh replied to corvinus's topic in DCS: AJS37 Viggen
I found some possible mistake in your procedure. In this 2nd track. You didn't set the QFE to 1012.6 (its at 1013 its a small difference but who knows) , your altitude was a bit off . It seems the bomb was released too late but I am not sure why it seems you pressed release too late. I have tried the mission many times where I done perfect shots a few times after a bit of training. :D Here is what I have done differently. I have set the qfe than switched to barometric altitude instead of radar alt what you used. I also turn slav si to fran(off) I am not sure if it is affect this bombing but still I use this mode on low alt always. Than I set the suggested altitude by the hud after I selected master mode anf with RR mode selected ont he weapon selector. I have entered the 253 code also (disable radar ranging It probably doesn't affect this mode but who knows ehh) . I set unsafe about 8 km than I pressed release at 3 km from the target waypoint. edit: I think your speed was also a bit slow. My bomb was alwas short below 0.8 mach. Here is the track. RRtest4.trk -

I have watched your 2nd track and played it also and yes in this the bombs hit the ground too late I have played it many times by myself also and it was always a miss. Maybe its just that the radar don't detect the target radar return in time. This release method can't be accurate consistently according to the manual so maybe in this case it does not work because the conditions are not perfect. I will try it a few more times and I report back if I found out something :D -
Need help with bombing in radar release mode
Sharkh replied to corvinus's topic in DCS: AJS37 Viggen
So on the mission result screen you don't see that the tower was destroyed? As I translate the instruction about this bombing you have to press the bomb release button as soon as the cross enter the circled area of the waypoint on the radar screen it does not have to be in the center so that picture looks alright. But again... :D I have watched your track and I am pretty sure that everything went alright there and you got a perfect hit . The replay feature of DCS is not a reliable source to analyze what has happened. It just record the inputs the player does and than its like the AI fly and mimic these inputs so a few small error can lead to a very different result in the end. I really have no idea how it is not working for you I played your mission and for me everything worked fine and I have done everything according to the procedures in the manual . If it still does not work for you than try to press the release sooner because that could be the only problem that you thought you have to release when the cross in the center of the circle so you were a bit late with that. edit: Btw try to use chuck's viggen guide for training the procedures if you haven't used it yet. There is a sticky htread about that guide with the PDF link. -

I guess its just some replay glitch. If you watch it from free cam you can see the tower is hit and destroyed and its reported to be destroyed even on the mission result screen. I am running the latest beta also. edit: I don't get it It seems that picture was taken in free cam mode also. I have watched the track 3 times and it was hit always I also played the track and I could destroy the tower for the first try with RR release just as in the replay.
