So I've got a CH fighterstick that has a good wobble at the centre position (4-5mm diameter circle at top of stick), in which the axes also register no motion in software. Tried rubberbanding the axes to try and eliminate any slop due to the sprung levers being loose or something, to no avail. Just makes it feel even jerkier. When wobbling around, the stick is not engaging the springs at all, so it's a sudden, jerky action when the springs finally engage, and fine control (AAR, P-51 gunnery) is more than a bit of a pain in the ass. To put it in perspective, my 7+ year old, broken down X52 felt better at centre, because at least it didn't read absolutely nothing when moving near centre. Anyone else run into this, or even better, have a fix? I tried asking on CH Hangar, which may as well have been not asking at all.

Oh boy, I log in to see a thread titled "DCS Viggen", get super excited, and it's just the exact same stuff that's been repeated 1500 times in the wishlist thread. Awesome.

Don't do this to me. A theatre with Finland in it would give me a heart attack, and I'd buy it even if I hated the plane.

Tack, Cobra. We know you guys are working overtime, it's just that week-before-Christmas "WHAT'S IN THE BOX?" anxiety around here I think.

Leatherneck Simulations Mini-Update - SEPTEMBER 2015
Mayo2017 replied to Cobra847's topic in Heatblur Simulations
No idea. I'm kinda burned out on this whole thing now. I know Leatherneck is working hard, I really do, but I'm tired of checking the forums every day. I'll hear it through the grapevine when it's announced. -
Agreed, I'm starting to get a little neurotic checking the forums.

No choice had to dump Win10 and go back to Win 8.1
Mayo2017 replied to Ramstein's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Never had an issue of that sort with Windows 10. Been using it for a while. Not sure how you got to blaming Windows 10 for those issues. -
This. The frame drop pre-1.5 was negligible for me, now it's 30-40% of my FPS. Much worse if I have FLIR on TGP and AGM-65Ds up at the same time.

Questions About Hotas Warthog
Mayo2017 replied to AMI Must's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
1: As Alterscape said 2: If you've got money to burn, sure. Otherwise I don't think so. 3: Having owned one (note past tense), that's a pretty big question, so I'll have to elaborate. Pros - Construction on the bases of the stick and throttle is incredibly heavy. - The actual stick is fantastically heavy as well, and isn't going to wear down any time soon. - The pressure required to push on the buttons is very large and realistic, and does feel pretty nice in the hand. - Action on the stick and throttle is smooth as butter if you don't get bit by bad QC. - People who get a fully-working one have nothing but praise for it, so I guess there's that. Cons: - Thrustmaster's QC is a bit spotty to say the least. First unit I had was a complete trainwreck that I'm not going to give another complete rundown on. Suffice it to say that it wasn't finished being built (bad plastic work mostly, and even screws were popping out inside the throttle and on the stick). Those who get a fully working one are generally very happy, just be warned that there's a bit of a lottery. - For all the talk of metal construction, most of the internals are plastic, and have had numerous problems show up over the years. Be aware that you may have to adjust, regrease, or replace things in the near future, or deal with warranty repairs. Not that plastic is bad, it's a matter of using the good stuff right. - The slew hat in particular deserves mention. It's a little mouse nub with really poor response (slow update rate, in particular), and I could never convince myself to like it. Whether or not it's more realistic is a separate argument. - Thrustmaster support and warranty stuff has a bit of a reputation for being hard to work with sometimes, but nowhere near Saitek levels of bad (squadmate's on his 3rd HOTAS in a couple months, I think). I ultimately got sick of dealing with the hardware troubles the HOTAS kept having, and sent it back to the retailer for the last time. Ended up buying a CH Products setup, since I had some of their stuff in the 90s and it was fantastic. Got a HOTAS, pedals, and a yoke (for civilian stuff) for the same price as the TM Warthog, and the stick especially feels better than the Warthog ever did. Ugly stuff, but hard to argue with the performance. So there's a bit of a QC lottery with it all. If you get a good one, you'll probably be incredibly happy with it. If you get the dumpster-level QC rejects like I did, you'll swear off TM for good. -
[CLOSED] MiG-29S and BeTAB-500-ShP - F6 view causes crash
Mayo2017 replied to Mayo2017's topic in Game Crash
Already noted. -
Edit: Was reported by someone else while I was reproducing and playing with things. After dropping a BeTAB-500ShP from a MiG-29S, F6 view on bomb causes an immediate CTD. Tracks folder contains no track file afterwards. BeTAB500ShP Crash.rar

Finland missing from the mission editor country list
Mayo2017 replied to Chain's topic in Mission Editor Bugs
When you load the mission editor, click the button to create a new mission. It will be in the neutrals list in the coalition select window that pops up. Move it to either side. Got me too at first. Finland being in the list is one of my favourite things in 1.5, stupid as it sounds. -
Same here, FLIR modes on A-10C TGP drop my average from ~120 to ~70.
-
The one time I wouldn't have minded a delay since my new HOTAS shows up in 2 days... oh well, X52, you're getting hooked up to life support again for a couple days. You must suffer so I can stare at cool things. :joystick:

I don't know what you guys are on about. It's clearly the Saab 91.

Does your GPU almost burst into flame when you run modelviewer
Mayo2017 replied to vicx's topic in 3D Modeling for DCS World
Thanks for pointing me to Inspector. Handy tool. But yeah, Modelviewer likes to whip GPUs. -
Update: It's not just me complaining - the switches on the stick were wiggling around, so I took a good look, and entire top part of the stick is literally coming apart! All the screws in the top few cm of the stick are backing out of their holes. Explains too why the throttle feels more and more sloppy as time goes on. Upon closer examination of the throttle levers, you can see the seams opening up when you wiggle the handles around. More loose screws, it seems. The grinding feel has eased up a bit over time, and it looks like it's due to burrs on the the part of the throttle that contacts the friction brake. Visually confirmed this by taking off the detent-swap cover and looking down there.

Nope on the slew, my problems with it show up outside DCS as well, be it FSX, the control panel, or TARGET. If this is the kind of thing I can expect for my money, I think I may just ditch this paperweight for a CH Fighterstick, use my perfectly good X-52 throttle (feels better than the TM one!), and save myself almost $300.

"Loose throttle handles when uncoupled" isn't it. Coupled or uncoupled doesn't matter, same things happen either way.
-
Tossing this out there in case anyone else has run into the same issues. :joystick: Got a new TM Warthog (38000-range serial) about 5 days ago, and was impressed by it, but over the past few days a few things have cropped up that are driving me mad: Stiction developing in all directions, most noticeably to the rear. Slop in centre of travel, towards the left only. Firm in all other directions. Very "dry" feeling in some areas, like there's friction where there shouldn't be. Occasional springing sound when pushed forward, as if a spring were binding on something. CMS switch is quite loose and touchy. Throttles become stuck, even at minimum friction, after sitting for more than a minute, and take a good push to break free, preventing small adjustments without first unsticking the levers. Annoying in solo cruise, a deal-breaker in AAR and tight formations. Throttles have a grinding feel in top half of range. Right throttle lever has a fairly large wiggle to it, like a screw isn't tightened down all the way. Throttles are sloppy in response - some wiggle room before the axis actually responds and the friction engages, making the friction control pretty pointless since it's impossible to make reasonable adjustments with it enabled. Mic switch up response is a bit erratic, and push feels really loose. Slew hat is slow and jittery, with a noticeable lag and an update rate around 4Hz, which is very noticeable when trying to do any precise control. Plastic parts on speedbrake switch, boat switch, china hat switch, and flaps switch are very loose and wobble around quite a bit. "Friction" axis on right side of panel also has grinding feels throughout its range. Considering the glowing praise this thing gets, I must've drawn the shortest straw in the whole factory. I'm almost preferring my Saitek X52 over this, and that's atrociously sloppy (not to mention like 6+ years out of warranty). Anyone else run in to any/all of this crap? This would be a wonky HOTAS at $100 USD, let alone quadruple that.
