Engine sound at cruise settings...
5tuka replied to Anatoli-Kagari9's topic in DCS: Bf 109 K-4 Kurfürst
Well JSGME is the preferrable way because you don't have to worry about making backups and mod files being replaced with game updates. If you go for manual installation open the extracted Bf-109K4 IDB Mod and drag the folders "Mods" and "Sound" into your DCS World main directory. -

5tuka replied to Anatoli-Kagari9's topic in DCS: Bf 109 K-4 Kurfürst
So here it is finally! http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=2569990#post2569990 Sorry for not including a preview video, having a hard time recording and compressing footage currently. I will hopefully be able to put sth up as soon as possible. Also pls consider this as a first release, things might added, changed or fixed in future. Hope you like it! Feedback is appreciated. -
Immersive Daimler Benz [iDB] Soundmod https://www.youtube.com/embed/vVrkQWbNa3M The mod project IDB is a personal sound mod created for DCS World 1.2 and higher that enhences the accustics of the Bf109K-4 module. Started about a year ago as a small personal mod only it growed steadily and after a long break closed in to it's first public release. This mod incorporates authentic sound recordings ripped from original footage as well as modified bits of original Eagle Dynamics sounds. List of content: - 57 custom sound files - 61 rewritten sound config files - roughtly 40 workhours of sound creating, tweaking, testing and coding v.1.0 feautures the base mod with all main content included. The mod content might be expanded and improved in future updates. Engine sound at cruise settings...
5tuka replied to Anatoli-Kagari9's topic in DCS: Bf 109 K-4 Kurfürst
Thx! About the sound issue this has to do with external sounds interfeerimg with cockpit sounds in DCS. External sounds on most planes are modeled way louder than cockpit sounds. Once another aircraft passes by the engine regulates the quiter sound down (in most cases cockpit sound) in favour of the louder. There's no way to effectively avoid this issue other than unnessecarily tuning cockpit sounds way louder than external ones, which obviously isnt a solution either. I've changed the overall sound balance for the K4 quite a bit though (gun sound for exame are barely hearable if boosting the engine with MW50) so I guess the effect of aircraft passing by will be less noticeably, but I can't gurantee it's vanished. The little work left includes some minor code tweaking as well as correcting one sample I feel out of place. Other than that it's good to go :) -
Engine sound at cruise settings...

Agree, a mod would be the best option to look forward to in my opinion. I'm currently working on finishing my public release Bf109 K4 sound mod this week: qR1D9D2TV6E (Pls note this footage is of the beta version. The release version has been made bug free and improved significantly). -
What I realize is that you obviously can not differ the B-1 and the B-2/3 engines. It is not even very accurate but a rather rought sketch to inidicate the performance development of future planed Me 262 variants. There's nothing more to say from my side. To each his own.
-
Yea you have a single sheet with data on a totally factory fresh and cleaned fuselage - must be the only truth. - 5000 ft/min = 25m/s. I did not satate anything different... - we are talking about the Me 262 A-1 here I assume, which didn't have bombs. Max. Takeoff weight is 6900kg. - no confirmation about RLM tests with 7130kg OVERLOADED machine -> myth (until proven right) - my data is mostly based on german tests and Jumo engine documents. Don't know where some of your very questionable claims derive from. - it's a 7 ton airplane with high wing laoding....yea it will turn good for sure Anyway it's up to you what to believe and not. Just be prepared to face an unexpected suprise if eventually the DCS Me 262 arrives with B1 engines.
-
First of all it's performance differed depending on the engines and - this is relevant for late war - production quality. With the Jumo 004 B-1 the 262 had noticeably worse performance than with the later B-2 and B-3s, which although introduced in late 1944/early 1945 could not replace the B-1s altogether due to production and material shortages. It's climb performance was good at low altitudes (25-30 m/s at SL) but decreased rapidly with altitude. At 3km+ the Bf-109 outclimbed it and at typical WW2 combat alts even P-51 surpassed the 262 in climb performance. It's low acceleration characteristics at high speed combined with a Takeoff weight of nearly 7t and bad manouvrebility (it had a slow and sluggish roll rate) means that combat is strechted over large distances. So it should be pretty simple to avoid getting hit by an incoming 262 if you have sufficient situational awareness. The maximum TO weight was 6900kg. No idea where you got such a high number nor the information that germans tested performance with such overload, which wouldn't even make sense since it's far higher than usual combat weight. Btw. Max speed for the 262 with B-1 engines was 790km/h at SL and 850km/h at ~ 6km. The B-2 and B-3 increased it qiute a bit but not greatly.

A good start would be to implement the multicrew feauture for the TF-51. Don't know if the backseat is modeled well enought for that though.

Yea, I don't like it either. It doesn't feel like a tailheavy CoG (which would effect the planes stability at any pitch angle) but more like a CoL / lift polar issue as I can't think of anything else possibly causing this seemingly "unnatural" behaviour. I do practise ingame and in reality quite a lot and as I said it meets many of my expectations well but only this particular issue. I'll probably have to wait until it's finished to be able to adopt a more suffisticated solution. Still thx for your help.

Odd, the Dora is very stable for me at neutral trim positon. I barely need to retrim it to keep a certain flight attitude since the FM was patch. Without going too deep into detail (I know it's no FM discussion) the K4 has a weird pitch angle behaviour I noticed during Takeoff and sub cruise speeds (<400 km/h) mainly in the 1.0 -1.42 ata range. Usually I take off and fly with the 2 frontheavy trim position and only retrim it while on landing approach to counter it's uppitch habbits. In my tests it flew level and fine while having a horizontal attitude with noseheavy trim. However once increasing the pitch angle above like 5° and centering the stick the plane shows a very noticeably tendency to "automaticly" keep increasing the picth angle. If you push the nose down to an horizontal anle it will overreact and wobble till it's perfectly level again and trim does it's job keeping it straight. As I said it's a weird behaviour I have not seen before on any aircraft (including my real flight expirience). I'm not an aeronautic engineer but sth tells me it's not quite right. Anyway after adjusting the pitch curve to this (I really hate to do this as it often ruins the "natural" feeling of an airplane) it felt more controllable even at positive pitch angles.
-
Psonally I'm more a 109 guy usually but agree that the Dora is more pleasant to fly atm (which is a pitty since I really had high hopes for the 109 to become my favourite ride). Obviously it (the K4) still lacks some final touches here and there, especially the FM (at least in my opinion). It feels good and solid but has some strange aerodynamical behaviour to it I ave not seen on any plane so far. It drove me to do what I try to prevent most, modify my joystick curve in order to take off and fly it somewhat more stable. I remember the 190 being very tailheavy during it's early beta stage and how this was patched later on and I hope the same to account to the 109 some day.

stick forces-please make them optional
5tuka replied to 9.JG27 DavidRed's topic in DCS: Bf 109 K-4 Kurfürst
I was suprised the 109 didn't feature any stick forces back when I bought it. After the patch announcement I briefly tested it and I have not been suprised any how. It just feels better and more according to anecdotal data. It also emphasizes the great effect of the adjustable stabilizer. Pilots were instructed to make small stabilizer adjustments in order to be able pull out of dives. The effeciency of the stabilizer was great enought to rip the whole airframe apart if one applied to much of it at high speed which is what I observed in DCS as well. Overall I'm satisfied with the reuslts and take it for what it is. -
Yea unfortunately such immersive flybys are not possible to model currently. Regarding the discussion about "what the pilot hears" in a real airplane. Usually, sitting directly behind the engine, you have a hell of a noise, especially low frequenzy noise (bass). When wearing earprotectors / headphones you won't be able to hear the high pitch noises of the engine but clearly all lower frequenzy noises, althought at lower amplitude. The sound pattern of what the engien sounds without ear protectors doesn't change much, since it's basilcy only a sound filter. So the sound ingame in some way can be compared to public recordings and cockpit footage as the pattern of what you hear should be identical. In my opinion engines in DCS in general lack a serious ammount of bass and lower frequency noise, which some might be fine with. As for me this is not immersive enought to enjoy the plane to it's fullest. That said I started working on a authentic sound mod today. I'll probably publish it once done with everything.

OP isnt wrong as diveplane used modified DB605 sound samples for the Dora mod (there was a thread he debated it in with sby) instead of his originally intendet BMW801 sounds. It's no suüride both mods sound very similar cause they are. Unfortunately the only 2 videos of the Fw190 D-13 running are too bad quality wise to really work with, though they have a clearly different sound pattern.

Teaching jung rookies to become fighter pilots via a virtual simulation is like teaching your kids playing soccer with FIFA, it just doesn't really match it. Good pilots didn't oly need to overcome the plane and the weather, they also needed to overcome themself both mentally as well as physically to profession their skills, otherwise they had low chances of survival.

Did this mod tonight with help of this amazingly detailed guide and have to say everything worked perfectly fine. Didn't take me longer than 15min to do it (5min alone to get that nasty spring back in place though, so be aware to utilize some nerves and patience before attempting it!). My pedals have been in use for 2 years already and though I still liked them, they showed significant aging/usage (most important the pressure adjustment wheel wasn't working anymore - it was free twistable without any effect). After the mod the later became even more significant as the pressure wheel is completely stuck now and can't be rotated. Furthermore, while using my previously adjusted medium to high pedal force before the mod, I'm now stuck with relatively light pedal force, which might be quite a downpoint. That said everything else worked out fine. The difference is quite noticably around the 1-3% motion area, where I no longer have to overcome the center forces, only the spring itself. As said by others though there are slight precentages of left or right rudder input applied after centering back to neutral, so deadzones are going to be your best friends after applying this mod. Personally I had no warranty to lose, "damaged" pedals and a replacement in mind for it in case sth went wrong.

Have the same issue. I can only chose the 500kg bomb or the fuselage tank no matter what type of mission I enter for it in the editor. Can't chose them ingame either. Tried to repair my DCS several times now but still having the same issue.
-
All right than, thx for the headsup. I just recently got across this template and skinning in DCS so I payed a little more attention at giving credits.:smilewink: I'll upload the template file for my reworked spinner than and leave a link to future Dora skinners.
-
Quick update on progress. Here's th that has been bugging me for long after flying my Dora for the first time. The spinner with it's typical spiral painting changed to ackward lines once the prop has started rotating. Of ocurse this had to be changed and I plan to share my custom prop texture with other modders to pit them to their own Doras. ${1} Pls note that the credit for basis texture belongs to Maler (pls answer me if you don't want me to share it).
-
Progress kept a little stuck unfortunately as I had several issues with the recent DCS Update and also gimp, which frequently crashed. I ended up recovering and redoing more stuff than actually progressing, which is a true pain. Anyway, here's the little update. Notice that I tested it with grey-green underside and fuselage painting instead of the lightblue (as seen in first skin source) which looks quite nice to me. I might even consider making both. The underside is made as close as I could get it to the description. I'm not totally happy with it yet though so expect some changes.
-
Agree, TO and landings work better for me since the update. For starts with TO flaps be sure to trim it fully nose heavy and let the joystick center at ~150km/h. It will smothly raise the tail and almost lift up on it's own that way. Landing behaviour feels more realistic now. Personally I preferr the current FM over the old one.

Ok, gonna get started with the underwings tomorrow. This is what I have so far: Reworked the specular maps, made colour corrections and added some more weathering.
-
S! I'll go with the green / dark green version than. "Underwing natural metal" <- seems a bit strange to me. Should it rly be bare metal (or did I get it wrong)? Thx for your help, hope to get some new WIP pics ready soon :smilewink:

First of all thank you very much for your great template, Maler! It helps a lot and you will surely get a big credit from me when I finish this! I'm working on the Black 14 of Josef Priller, JG26 currently. Apart from some slight refference issues it is taking shape and I hope to finish it this week. The thing I'm unsure about is the brown areas. Some images I've seen show them in dark green instead so my plan was to create 2 version of it. One with brown (which also looks nice in my opinion) and one with dark green. If anybody has soem evidence on this particular machine I'd be glad ito knwo which was the correct colour for the stripes though :)
