  1. Any updates so far? The 3d model looks pretty, can't wait to see it textured! :)
  2. Would be nice to have this as an option or (incase an options setting is not feasible with the DCS engine) for a test. Presonally I like the ingame-stick-moves under perssure changes approach over the stick position ingame == physical possition due to the additional feedback we would get (usually I don't care much for the position of my stick but the force I feel from the spring. If deploying the flaps ingame would require to pull the physical stick slightly spring force would be greater -> better feeling for the aircraft). We don't know how much this would be effecting controlls though so I agree a test would better before making the ultimate decision.
  3. It's fine for now but my spare time is still limited. Due to the break I had to make I ended up going over everything, making many more tweaks to it and screwing a few things up that now require fixing. Be sure it's not droped, just moving in slow pace since I want to make this as good as I can with the time I've got availabel.
  4. Noticed a change in startup sequence too a while back (about that time EDGE was released). What I do now is I'm using the same startup sequence as before (priming with starter switch off, than holding starter switch on, as soon as it catches setting mixture to run) with the difference I'm giving the prop a few rotations via the starter while the engine is unprimed. That way it will always catch quickly when starting it up primed. If I do not give the prop a few rotations beforehand the engine just wont catch with the described method.

    Su-17/22

I've got a flyable Su-17 mod from that Wings of russia site if I'm not mistaken. Umfortunately it uses the very old external model (lowpoly, does not even have reflection textures) and the FM is (as expected from a SFM) very basic and arcadish. Good luck if you go for it, would be a nice bird to have.
  6. Nice, love the Skyraider! Always wanted to have it in a modern sim since the day it flew past my head at an airshow. The engine is by far the loudest I've heared yet, it nearly completely drowned the P-40 and P-51 it flew in formafion with. Would love to create some engine sounds for this, but only as a mod. Anyway, keept it up pls., looks very promising!
  7. It's certainly not the sound engine. It's just a design decision I assume and infact by 1943-1945 sirens were indeed uncommon. Sure, you could go for an earlier model (B-2, R, D-1), but than you get thrown against late war opposition on a theatre these machine didn't fight on (at least by 1944). Either way I'm sure we'll get sirens - one way or the other. At least I'm sure I will :smilewink:
  8. Magnificent work on both models! One question though, will the D-5 have divebreaks and pullout mechanic? Was kind of worried not seing any progress lately but the wait was definetly worth it.
  9. No worries, all good. Just wanted to know if it was possible since I have little to no expirience with FMs in DCS. Maybe I'll play around with it when I've free time and manage to find the FM somwhere. Again good job!
  10. Nice work on the Zero. Feels a little strange with the P-51s flightmodel though. Is there a way to change/edit the FM?
  11. Not quite correct, all models up to the G had the ability to moint the Jericho Trompeten (there are actual photographs of D-3s fited with sirens). They were just not in widespread use after 1941 anymore unlike in the early war campaigns.
  12. I'm pretty sure Racoon meant the Wurfgranate 21 (there's even a switch for it in the cockpit) for the Dora. Don't know if Doras/109s were equiped with R4M rockets (Me-262 was). Gunpods for the K4 would be nice but probably not popular as long as there's no bombers to shoot at.
  13. Snownider beat me on Red 7...for good. Great work.
  14. I can safely add overheating and prop gear damage to your list, Solty Yes, I get the wish for higher boost pressure clearance (although I always stick to max continous power in combat because temps are constantly on the upper limit anyway) but it's lack - as you said - should not stop people from learning to adopt to fight the "superiour germans" by developing superiour tactics. Defensive flying is a key on dogfight servers. If you got the hang of it you only have to wait for the griefy 109 to make a mistake and catch him by suprise. Kind of like flying the Lagg-3 in another sim. 0.50 cal damage may be unconsitent, but very effective at times. Usually I try to aim for the engine - cockpit area and a 109 without coolant or oil won't go very far.
  15. Regardles of inferiour climb and turn performence (at below cruise speed at least) I enjoy combating Bf-109s with the Mustang. It's challenging but accomplishable and if you don't hold a fight-to-the-death attitude you can almost always escape if the situation turns bad for you. It's dive characteristics are very good thx to the low drag wing and good controlability at high airspeeds. Not rarely I ended up dragging a 109 into a dive chase, watch him break and after climbing again was able to catch him by suprise. Not saying the P-51 is the better combat aircraft, it surely is everything but suited for the current low altitude turnfest servers. The Spitfire is probably goign to shake things up way more than the P-51 in this regard.
  16. Keep the hype alive :) In the meantime we can still use the Dora as a substitute...sort of. [ame] [/ame]
  17. As Jcomm said it has good sideway stability on TO and less breakout tendencies. Where the Dora gets sensible is too quick pitch changes on the stick. For TO I make sure I'm straight, pull the stick full way back and advance throttle to max smoothly. Stick pressure can be released to neutral at 100km/h slowly and tail will come up slightly at ~ 140km/h. Theres no need to push the nose down unless you're seriously runnign out of runway space (pushing nose down can lead to unstability and drifiting sideways). Rotation speed is 200-220km/h depending on weight. You can attempt a 3 point TO but it's not good for acceleration and can easily lead to a stall if you pull too ambitious (it's hard to judge how much backpressure is required with all 3 wheels touching the runway).
  18. It's not really possible to restart the engine in the air but incase of fuel starvation it can be enouht to dive with some throttle opening so the engine gets cranked over by the prop and ignition may put it back in action. If it completely stops it's seized which is a death sentence.
  19. Could be that the spin interrupted your fuel flow due to negative Gs. MW-50 could be used for very long time (10min at a time) which shouldn't be an issue here as digfights usually last less. Still if you're flying slow with MW-50 the engine might still overheat quickly. As you said it splutters I'd rather believe the former becaue and overheated engine will seize rapidly. Btw: There are 2 vertically arranged lamps in the lower right corner of the front panel. One saying "Vorn" and the other "Hinten". Those light up whenever the fuel flow from one of the fuel tanks is interruped.
  20. Update (Screenshot made with flat shadow setting) After shifting my mind a little and ressearching I've found the ED "rough" leather texture to be unsuited so I remade it from scratch. Looks much smoother now + I tried to incooperate some wrinkels at corners based on real photos. Other improvements include some touchups for the shadowing on the main panel and brightness adjustments for some parts that were still off. Specular has been reverted to the default as I've not found any improvement yet - may change in future. As for now I think it's ready for a "beta" release. Keep in mind some areas may still appear a little rough but I will try to sort things out in future updates as freetime permitts. Download [Mediafire]: http://www.mediafire.com/download/c63p9fct5jckgm7/Fw-190D_RLM66_Standard__Cockpit_by_5tuka.rar ( Download via DCS User files will follow) Installation: Copy the Mods folder over to your DCS World main directory. After that launch the game and go to settings -> special -> Fw-190 tab. Select "RLM66 Standard" in the cockpit texture bracket. You can disable this mod anytime by accessing your settings and setting it back to "standard". Hope you enjoy it and am looking forward to your feedback! :mobile:
  21. Got it myself in autum sale last year but not flown it very much since than so I guess my expirience is still quite low to medium. The Mi-8 is a heavy duty choper that allows you to fit heavy duty weapons or transport large stuff. Even though it's quite heavy it can be very beasty to controll at times especially when transitioning to vertical take offs or landings. It's very stable and enjoyable in midflight though and even capeable to do some aerobatics with after some time of familiarisation. What bugged me most was the fact I never really could trim this bird for staight flight with the autopilot trim functions. It would always wonkle around with a wild pitching nose or extreme sideway drifts and the autopilot ever only seemed to make it worse and keep me working harder. I discovered my solution to that problem by droping the autopilot trim and setting the 'move controll stick' function to my trim buttons. That way I can now move the stick's center with the buttons while having free controll with the joystick, which feels more natural and easier to controll. This module is without doubt very content rich and enjoyable once mastered, but with a note of caution: It's difficult to get into without lots of training and ressearch. It's a whole different expirience from flying fixed wing aircrafts.
  22. Update Some new screens with the fresh reworked soft leather and minor improvements on other parts of the cockpit. I also attempted to simulate scratched glass on the gauges for either this or a possible weathered version. Still needs tuning but I think it's not too shabby.
  23. Thx guys, got it working fine now! No secret at all, the gauge reflections are within the fw190cpt_glass_gauge.dds. I simply made the Alpha channel brighter to increase the effect unfortunately it's no real reflection but a static alpha overlay). You can do the same for cockpit glass reflections.
  24. Unfortunately ED does not allow conversion setting for WW2 birds as far as I know so I wouldn't look forwar to it. From what I remember Bf-109 pilots reported not only vertical but also horizontal spread and that the plane was shaking throwing the aim off when firing the MK108 gun. It was seen practicly useless in fighter vs fighter engagement and some preferred sticking with the higher velocity MG151. That's only from pilot interviews though.
  25. From what I remember it was mainly the 109 pilots who complained about the Mk108 ballistics. Considering the much higher speed and airframe ruggedness of the 262 they could actually be somewhat more effective. R4M would be nice indeed even though we got no B-17s to shoot at (yet).
