Moving Map is also gone, just a black screen. Still shows my waypoints and such, but on the backdrop of a black screen, no map.

Interestingly enough, MSAAx4 does the same thing. So only MSAAx2 gives me the displays

Trying to get some performance out of my rig, I went to the VR preset. This turns off MSAA, which I could be fine with, except it's giving me an unusable tgp or maverick display for some reason. Anyone else having this issue? Once I change it to MSAAx2, all is fine, but my fps drops like a lead balloon.

Hello. I apologise if this has been brought up before, but I went about 10 pages back, and I don't even know if this is VR specific, as I haven't been flying outside of VR. I've been having random hanging for about a second, and then it will have flipped different switches and what not. For instance, my weapon arm switch on the F5 will be switched off, forcing me to reactivate it. The hanging is a bit jarring, especially in VR, but it's the weird flipping switches and such that's really bugging me. Any info would be appreciated.

Except we don't need more powerful GPUs to take advantage of a higher pixel density. Down scaling a higher resolution display will still reduce the screen door effect and aliasing.

I had a similar dream as well. I would be nice if you could have a default view setting in VR as well, as right now, I keep having to adjust my view in the A-10C in particular to get it looking right. I think it has you 'leaning' forward to see the HUD better, so you have to reposition yourself each time to sit back properly.

I think VR is great, but it would be even cooler with some integrated AR. Basically, have your sim pit at least somewhat visible while in the head set. The sense of presence in VR is hard to beat. The dual/triple projector setups with 180-270 degree screens seems like it could get close though.

Using an EDTracker as a Cyclic
Echo179 replied to Inrideo's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Can you show some pictures of the collective and pedals? I'm definitely interested in this concept. Dedicated helicopter controls are stupid expensive -
Trying to figure out if this is possible or not. I want to have one of my radial dials on my throttle to act as a mode switch for when I press a single mic ptt. So I want it to be set up where all the way forward is one radio, center is another, and all the way back is the last. Then, when I press my ptt button, it activates the ptt for whatever radio is currently selected. So is there a way to set up some sort of "if, then" command? Like "if rotary switch is between 0-30%, button X = key press Y" Thanks

How long do they take to ship to the states? I just paid fort mine, and they should be shipping any day now

So, here's a question. Has anyone looked into slimming down the base of the stick? I believe the internals of the base are pretty small comparatively, so it seems like you could fit it all into a larger diameter PVC pipe. That would slim down the profile of the stick for using it between your legs, similar to the warthog base. Once I get back home in July, I may end up looking into it myself, but there seem to be some handy people here modding their sticks.

I'm not sure why it isn't on the poll as an option. Any of the 60's would be cool. I'd personally like to see an SH-60 or MH-60 Seahawk. They have a very wide mission set, from CSAR, special operations deployment, CASEVAC, anti-submarine and anti surface warfare, vertical replenishment, etc. It would be cool to actually have functional helicopter decks on ships like FFG's, DDG's, and such. I'd love to work on underway take offs and landings. Also, something I'd love to see possibly implemented into the Huey as well as the 60 (if it ever makes it into DCS), is fast roping, rappelling, SPIE, cable hoisting, etc. Having something similar to the sling loading, but dealing with troops instead. It would be cool to do a CSAR mission, where your PJ's are dropped into the AO, find the pilot, and then you have to cable hoist him out on a CASEVAC.

Yes, they are real. Look up pictures of the cockpit of any modern fighter aircraft and you'll see they have a HUD. Everything in A10C is models after the real deal. Even some civilian aircraft are using HUDs now, and some luxury cars are being built with HUDs to give the driver important info without looking down. As to answer your other question, you can certainly navigate to waypoints using the compass, HSI, TAD, and even paper charts if you had to. Before the HUD was invented, gun sights were actually physically affixed to the cockpit and would have reference points for impact points at different ranges.

Performance difference between AMD and Intel
Echo179 replied to Echo179's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I may very well switch back to AMD if they come out with a competitive product in the future, but for right now, and the foreseeable future, I think the 4690k is going to handle most games at 60+ fps when paired with a current gen enthusiast GPU. My 290x works great right now, though unless AMD is able to do what nVidia is doing (more performance with lower TDP), or has some other great advantage over the competition, I may end up switching companies there as well. Right now it feels like AMD is constantly playing catch up, using pricing as their main argument. -
Performance difference between AMD and Intel

So, now that I have installed my new hardware and run DCS on my shiny new Intel i5 4690k, I can say without a doubt, that it was worth it! In the exact same mission where on approach for landing I would run into a 10-12fps chug fest (Maple Flag Missions' BFT 04, I am now making the same approach at a much more manageable 30+fps! While it's not a buttery smooth 60+fps like I am getting most of the rest of my flight time, it is still easily manageable and playable. Also, that equates to a 66% improvement over what I was at, so I am extremely happy with it. -
Performance difference between AMD and Intel

Well, I just pulled the trigger on the i5 4670k and an MSI Z97 board. I've got a Cooler Master Seidon 240M that I'll be transferring over. My FX8350 wouldn't OC past 4.4ghz without being unstable, so I think I just had a weaker bin. I'm really excited to swap everything out on Friday now! Aside from the actually swapping everything out, as that is going to be a pain in the ass. -
Performance difference between AMD and Intel

I'm thinking f going with a 4690k and then maybe trading up to a Broadwell chip if it is worth it. It looks like the new Broadwell chips will be clocked a bit lower than Haswell, but will be 14nm. I know Skylake is supposed to launch later this year as well though, but prices and availability may make that less of an option. As far as I can tell, I'll get good performance out of a 4th gen i5 chip for quite a while, since the Ivybridge (2 years old), and even Sandybridge (4 years old) are still relevant and capable for today's games. -
Currently, I am weighing options. On one hand, I am waiting for DCSW2 to release to see how DX11 support works out for my current FX8350. I currently drop into the teens for FPS when I am landing, which causes problems, and often, crashes of my aircraft. This alone has kept me from continuing to fly as often as I'd like. My other option, is to dump the AMD hardware and pick up an i5 or i7 processor and supporting motherboard. Even with selling my AMD hardware to recoup some of the cost, it won't be all that cheap. However, considering my other love is Arma, which is also plagued by lack of AMD love, I am heavily considering dumping AMD, at least for my CPU, and possibly going to a GTX 980 in the not too distant future as well My question then, is how much of a performance jump can I expect to see in DCS just from swapping Intel for AMD? I know on mainstream games, it really isn't that much, but Arma 3 sees almost 20fps gains from the videos I've been able to find. Thanks

Well, thought I'd take a shot at it ;) I'm also baffled at how you have your 8350 running at 5.31 on closed loop water...
-
SkateZilla, as a tester, could you elaborate how your performance is on an FX8350 on DCSW2?
-
Considering they had a desired release of December 2014, and then changed that to "between March and June 2015", I'm really hoping for some sort of release of DCS World 2 BEFORE Christmas. Even worse, as I go through the forums reading different stuff, it seems like EDGE and DCS World 2 have been 'right around the corner' since at least 2013. I'm just curious how it isn't considered in Alpha right now. I feel at this point, they are trying to simultaneously release DCSW2 and the NTTR map. While I know that the NTTR map is going to be amazing, it would be great to see the new engine sooner than later, even if that means releasing it before NTTR. As an AMD user, performance increases interest me more than anything. Hell, even a video showing how an AMD system performs in DCS World 2 would be satisfying at this point. We already know that Intel and nVidia perform well. The real test for the improvements will be if we get good performance out of an AMD cpu and gpu.

Sorry, I thought I had uploaded the logs. I didn't do it right though. I just followed the directions on your sig, so here they are. Logs.zip

Version 1.2.16 is causing a crash every time I launch a mission. I've already repaired via the updater and restarted my system. I'm in the process of downloading the newest files for a clean install, but I'd really rather not if it isn't necessary. Thanks.

I guess one of my questions, is what would upgrading the suite really do for us as flight sim pilots? I don't think any of us here are intending to get into the cockpit of a real A-10 and fly it with the skills we have from the sim. We have a product that has higher fidelity than pretty much any other commercially available combat flight simulator out there, where you can utilize the A-10C as the devastatingly effective ground attack plane it was designed as. They COULD have just left us with the A-10A model, which was still a great plane, but they provided us with the 21st century A-10C model, which upped it's capability 10 fold. I guess I'm saying, be happy with what we do have, because it is amazing. I'm more interested in having a better world, more realistic allied forces and enemy force to fight, than an update to an already impressive module.
-
That's probably harder to do, since a lot of the systems would still be classified or hard to get access to to replicate properly, especially at the fidelity that A10C has spoiled us. Since it was a joint effort with the USAF, and even then some of the systems had to be substantially changed or made inoperable (IFF), getting a look at current day hardware and software would be harder still. This is why you're more likely to see cold war era aircraft than cutting edge new ones. I'd rather see PFMs and DCS fidelity for the other FC3 planes before the A10A though. We already have the C for NATO ground attack, so getting the F15C up for US air to air, and their Russian counterparts.
