I am trying to get past mission 3, however, I failed the mission by entering Tonopah airspace. (would be handy to see it marked on my map... I cannot find any documentation and it doesn't appear on F10). Having failed the mission, I now have to refly mission 2. Somewhat of a pain. Is this a bug or intentional? Thanks.

[Unable to repeat] Can't complete mission 3
TheHighwayman replied to Gazza.Blake's topic in Problems and Bugs
Mission 03 won't end? Hello, I fly mission 3, shoot down the baddies, fly home and land, taxi to my original spot, but the mission does not end and does not progress to number 04. Has anybody else had this issue or know what to do? I do not follow all waypoints strictly, notably, we get startup permission late and depart late, so I cut a few corners in the shy to save time and fuel. Could this be the problem? Thanks for your help! -
Graphics stutter
TheHighwayman replied to TheHighwayman's topic in Release Version Bugs and Problems (Read only)
Thank you, Mustang, I'll give that a try. -
No matter how low I dial my graphics, I get stutter while flying. The simulation just isn't smooth. Really, I think I should have a pretty smooth experience, but I just don't know. Same problem in both 2.0 Alpha and Steam 1.5.2. Is this a known issue? What settings can I use to correct this? Is there a way to get fighters to respect a border?
TheHighwayman replied to TheHighwayman's topic in Mission Editor
Thank you, I will look into how to do that. -
I've set up a mission with three factions, North Korea, The USA, and South Korea. The mission is a defection mission with you flying the South Korean MiG 15 (conveniently in North Korean markings -- You are a North Korean pilot, but I had to designate the craft South Korean to get your own guys to shoot at you) from the North to the South. On both sides of the border, you are considered hostile. That means all airfields and ALL aircraft are RED. This setup works great, until you reach the border and now you have North Koreans and Americans in mutual pursuit. Unfortunately, you can't set up a three-way fight between the factions, so that's how I gamed the system. To fix the scenario I'm building, since I can't get the two RED sides to fight, perhaps I can at least get the North Koreans to turn back? I don't think a waypoint will work, because the person flying the defecting MiG may choose to fly any route south, so the planes will be pursuing you, not following a predetermined path. I'm brand new to building scenarios, so I imagine I'm missing a piece of the scenario building puzzle? Thanks for you help. I think you'll enjoy the mission.

Can't get the enemy to track me down
TheHighwayman replied to TheHighwayman's topic in Mission Editor
Update: AWACS did the trick. Now I feel hunted! It's still a bit easy to get away, I wish the AI tried a little harder to kill you, but the addition of AWACS means they now actually make an effort as you pass by. Thanks! -
Can't get the enemy to track me down
TheHighwayman replied to TheHighwayman's topic in Mission Editor
Thank you, Grimes. I did add an AWACS aircraft, but it is distant, so probably can't direct very well? How does AWACS see you, onboard sensor? I didn't want to include one because it is the wrong time period, however, if it makes the mission an actual challenge, then by all means, I will. I will add the switch waypoints as you suggest. Thanks. Additional thoughts are welcome. -
I am building my second mission, so I am quite a novice. The mission is a sort of "defect in the MiG 15" sort of mission with MiG15s and F86s as adversaries. Your job is to avoid what you can and land at an enemy airbase (all airbases are enemy, since you're defecting). I have put plenty of aircraft in the air to intercept you, and I have set them to Search and Engage in particular areas. I set the End Condition to about 1 hour after mission start to ensure aircraft will remain on station, looking for you. Unfortunately, they all just fly around a bit, ignore you when you pass by, then try to land way too early. Obviously I'm doing something wrong/the hard way, but I don't know what it is. Suggested fixes are appreciated. Thanks!

Leatherneck Simulations Monthly Update - Februamarch 2015
TheHighwayman replied to Cobra847's topic in Heatblur Simulations
Here is your F-14! http://store.steampowered.com/app/328930/ LOL Kidding. I remember playing this, played it for months as a kid. -
I cannot seem to find any discussion of when the MiG 15 will be available on Steam. I have DCS on Steam and would enjoy flying the MiG 15 on there. Is there a thread I am overlooking? Thanks!

Wait, perhaps that should be: Russian pilot never bakes.

The game does not have a historical campaign like you seek, but a fictional campaign in the Caucasus. It does have an editor which is easy to use and comes with F-4s and B-52s among a whole host of other aircraft. I do not think it has the F-105. Regardless of how it differs from what you are wishing, it is a definite buy. It is a true simulator however, and virtually every switch in the cockpit works and will need to be learned and thrown correctly to achieve your desired outcomes. It took me nearly three weeks just to get a missile to leave the rail. (I wasn't playing full-time though.) The learning curve makes the machine satisfying to fly. You immediately see where the plane excels and what its shortcomings are. It is a joy to fly, and I just love the intercept instant action mission. Climbing to alittude with your wingman in tow, headed into uncertainty, flipping switches and preparing to execute the mission as it develops, is a fantastic pleasure. You feel like a professional fighter-jock with this simulation. Se yes, this is a must buy. It is worth every penny. You can set up plenty of adversaries in the editor and there is an instant action against an F-4 built in. Personally, I'd love to see someone create a Top Gun campaign or something to that effect. Someone in the community quite possibly has and I'm just not aware of it. As a final tip, I advise you to be a single man without children, or be prepared to get divorced. It's a decadent joy to lose a whole Saturday to this thing. Good luck!

Thinking for forming a virtual squadron around the MiG 21
TheHighwayman replied to TheHighwayman's topic in Multiplayer
Not sure what times we will fly. Possibly we will have a server and TS up so folks can fly whenever it suits them. I'm sure we can also do some night flights on the weekends. We have a TS, but it's not configured yet. We also have a forum I set up. However, I have been quite ill since Friday. The unusually bad air quality in California has me knocked down. It's the worst I have ever seen. I expect to be in better shape by the end of the week. Also, I have a partner who may find the time to finalize everything and open for business, but that's up to him and his schedule. I am looking forward to flights by this weekend. Thanks again, see everyone soon. -

We have foums and a TS set up. We also have a training mission built for folks to fly. We'll get details out to you as soon as we get things looking presentable! -
Thinking for forming a virtual squadron around the MiG 21
TheHighwayman replied to TheHighwayman's topic in Multiplayer
The squadron will be formed this weekend as the 3rd VVS Tactical Fighter Squadron. We will be based in the USA, Pacific timezone. We will be starting with a Teamspeak server and a forum. We will add a website later, assuming we have enough interest to warrant that sort of web presence. We plan a minimum weekly schedule, but will not require members to meet any strict minimums in terms of participation. However, individuals who participate more than others will be preferred for posts of privilege and responsibility (as with any organization). I imagine the formalities will be minimal, at least until we start flying with other squadrons. I have a partner who will share the responsibility of command with me and who will probably provide the bulk of the experience we need to be successful as a group. More information will come available within the next couple days. If my partner in this project wishes to raise his hand, I'll leave it up to him. In the meantime, I look forward to some fun flying this weekend! -

Thinking for forming a virtual squadron around the MiG 21
TheHighwayman replied to TheHighwayman's topic in Multiplayer
Thank you. If I do anything it will be next weekend. I am already looking at some basic websites that would work and provide us with a forum. I'm also trying to think of a squadron to represent, but may decide to create a fictional Soviet air regiment. The records that I find online aren't very good for telling me what the VVS did historically, which squadrons flew what and where. I'm open to suggestions. -Highwayman -
There's a 70% off Steam sale on DCS content for those of you running this on Steam. Be careful, not all of the titles are full simulations, in case that matters to you. However, I expect all the titles are enjoyable. The MiG 21 is 15% off. Trick or treat, see you in the skies. Sale ends Nov. 3.

Thinking for forming a virtual squadron around the MiG 21
TheHighwayman replied to TheHighwayman's topic in Multiplayer
Pacific Time Zone, USA. -
Hello aces! I really enjoy flying the MiG 21 and I'm ready for my next fix, which is to fly cooperatively with others. My thought is to form a virtual squadron around the MiG 21. I can finance a website and TS, and possibly get a server going for our squadron and friends. Although I would serve as the administrative head of the squadron, I will need flight leaders and people with flying experience to direct operations. I happen to be a paper pusher by trade, not a flight commander. If there is enough interest, I'll go to work setting something up. We would focus on the MiG 21, as our chief study, but as new simulation modules (and I mean simulation, not arcade-style) are released, I would consider expanding operations to include other Soviet and Russian aircraft. Ultimately, I would like to create a career system whereby pilots within the squadron conduct operations and receive promotions and awards for their achievements. If this interests you, post below. I'll use that as my measure and start, or drop the idea accordingly. Pacific Time Zone, USA. See you up there! :pilotfly:

Is there a virtual squadron based in the USA that is flying the MiG 21 in multiplayer? I have done multiplayer for IL2 and Rise of Flight and have a full setup (Saitek X52, Track IR and so on). It might be cool to start flying MP missions in the MiG and joining with some teammates on a regular basis. Thanks!

Yes, thank you for this module. I thought it was pricey when I purchased it, but the rave reviews swayed my decision. Now that I own it, I have logged a ridiculous number of hours, enough to cross my wife (you did something right) and I am impressed with the level of detail and overall quality of the simulation. I feel like a real pilot in the cockpit. Outstanding work.
