This is the third mission of the Sea Eagle series. Fly a simulated strike mission against Nellis by running down the Sally Corridor at low altitude. But watch out, the students are present at various altitudes, waiting to intercept you. You will be aided by three other instructor aviators who will attempt to run interference for you. Required: Nevada Map, A-4 Skyhawk mod (free mod). A-4 vs. F-4 Phantoms. Get the mission here: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3303294/

My triggers (Group Activate) will not work
TheHighwayman replied to TheHighwayman's topic in Mission Editor
UPDATE Thank you all. The zone (Sheep Mountain) was too small. Tripling its size and adding another OR [unit Inside Zone] trigger did the trick. Now it looks like fun. I hope to have the mission finished this weekend. It will be online as "Sea Eagle M04 - BOLO." Thanks again. I hope to improve as I learn more. -

SUNTSAG: Thank you! My error seems to be the assumption that Flag 71 was firing. Appreciated! -
My triggers (Group Activate) will not work
TheHighwayman replied to TheHighwayman's topic in Mission Editor
Ok. Good feedback. No, I am not getting the message from MERLIN. BOLO 2,3 follow 1, which seems to work. But this is helpful. It seems 71 doesn’t fire at all. Originally, the mission was quite a bit more complex. I had to prune it back to see what’s going on. The fresh eyes are appreciated! Thank you. I’ll report back this PM when I get back to my machine. -

Ah yes, sorry. Move built three others in the series so far, and I mention it on the missions page, then I forget to do it here. I’ll edit my OP. Thank you. -
My triggers (Group Activate) will not work
TheHighwayman replied to TheHighwayman's topic in Mission Editor
Done. Thank you. Note: you do not have to fly the mission to test it, you can just open the map and accelerate time. None of the triggers in question rely on the player. -
Can someone please have a look at my mission? [EDIT: REQUIRES A4 mod & Nevada] My group activate trigger simply will not work, and I am not sure if I am missing something or if there is a bug. Groups are set to late activation, and should activate 180 seconds after Flag 71 is on. The flag works, since it causes a flight of bombers to switch waypoints. But it should start a timer to activate other groups and that never happens. I'm baffled by this one. Can anyone help? Thank you for your time! Sea Eagle M04.miz

In this second mission of the Sea Eagle series, you will work to stop the student pilots from 'striking' your airfield at Creech. You will be aided by three other instructor/aggressor pilots. You will fly the A-4, versus the students in F-4 Phantoms. Expect to be outnumbered, expect to be challenged. A fair warning, this will be a difficult mission. You may find the mission here: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3303268/ NOTES: Mission is not voiced, but contains a text briefing, 'flavor' text for immersion, and text updates for important, basic information. Feedback and collaboration are welcome.

Required assets: A-4 Mod Nevada Map This is the first of a series of missions inspired by Top Gun. No particular scene or scenario is recreated. However, your mission is to serve as an instructor/aggressor pilot versus student pilots at Nellis. The year is 1978, and you will fly an A4, students fly the F-4 Phantom. In this mission, you will fly solo against a pair of students in F-4s. Your mission is to demonstrate what a motivated aviator can do to a superior force. Advantages aren't everything; it's the man, not the machine. After this mission, look up and try M02 - HITTING BACK. I will be adding missions until a fill campaign is built. The mission is NOT voiced, but includes 'flavor' text for immersion as well as in-flight text for instructions when necessary. The mission also includes a short briefing with a few notes. You can find the mission here: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3303260/

I have figured this out. https://wiki.hoggitworld.com/view/DCS_editor_Randomization#Random_Choice See: True/False Combination. I need to set flags to TRUE, instead of ON. I hope this is helpful to others.

Need a little help with this. Single Mission, enemy has 4 options for strategy, option A, B, C, & D. I am using the following logic: Mission Start > Random 50 > Flag On 1 Mission Start > Random 50 > Flag On 2 Flag 1 is True, Flag 2 is True = Flag 3 On (Triggers Strategy A) Flag 1 is True, Flag 2 is False = Flag 4 On (Triggers Strategy B) Flag 1 is False, Flag 2 is True = Flag 5 On (Triggers Strategy C) Flag 1 is False, Flag 2 is False = Flag 6 On (Triggers Strategy D) The problem I am having is only Strategies A & B are ever chosen. Strategies C & D are never chosen. What am I doing wrong? Thank you for your help!

I can tune the radio, but it is difficult. What am I missing?
TheHighwayman replied to TheHighwayman's topic in M-2000
That's good news. I was worried if I had to do it each mission, it would be a serious immersion-breaker. I can easily manipulate the channel knobs, but those little numbers are a real pain. I have learned there is a sweet spot above and below each number, offset just a bit to the left. Finding that spot (by trial and error) helps, but it's still difficult. Without VR, it is pretty easy. The resolution is so fine that you can change them in a snap. But for some reason, VR is like having big virtual fingers, and it is difficult to hit the right spot without also hitting another, or missing everything altogether. To fix this, there would have to be: -A keybind which allows you to manually change the frequency with your keyboard. -A "thinner" VR pointer. -A pop-up window that shows an enlarged radio panel. (Not that this is Microsoft FSX... LOL) So far, it's an enjoyable campaign! Thank you DCS, Razbam, Baltic Dragon, & et. al.! -
I can tune the radio, but it is difficult. What am I missing?
TheHighwayman posted a topic in M-2000
Flying the M2000-C Red Flag Campaign, first mission. I have to tune the radio. Easy Comms are OFF, as per campaign introduction instructions. I CAN tune the radio, but with extreme difficulty. I am flying in VR with clickable cockpit. I look at the switch I want to operate, and push a button to manipulate the switch. I find I have to use VR zoom to read the numbers, which are tiny. It often takes many attempts to manually switch a number in the frequency readout on the radio management panel. Is there an easier way than zooming in and clicking on the tiny numbers a dozen times to tweak this? Thanks! -

Right Warning/Caution Advisory Lights?
TheHighwayman replied to TheHighwayman's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
Hmm. I get illuminated by SAMs and they don't come on. I get warning tones, but no lights. That's why I am sure I'm missing something... a switch somewhere? -
Right Warning/Caution Advisory Lights? How the heck do I turn these on? I've searched the manual, but cannot find the switch to turn them on. I've also looked for a keybind in the sim. Clearly I am missing something. Thank you for your reply.

I could use an experienced editor to beta-test my mission for me. The mission is intended to be the first of a 14 mission campaign. I have a vision for the campaign and am starting work on the second mission in the series. In the campaign you fly as an F-18 Aggressor pilot in the fictional "Prime Eagle" exercises. You will need: Nevada Map F-18C Strongly Recommended: VR (First mission occurs at dawn and it is easier to see in VR) PROBLEM: I have had an extensive problem with escorting aircraft not escorting their assigned strike packages. I have escorts set to escort, and I have set their spacing. Still, the escorts like to do what they want and tend to show up after the initial merge. I would like to solve this problem, but I am not sure how. The mission has four possible permutations, so it's basically 4 missions in one package. Each time you fly you will get one of the four at random. They may look and feel alike, since the four possibilities are similar, but they are not identical. In the future, there will be even more variety. My goal in the original mission was to keep the player guessing as to where the action would take place. I have not uploaded maps, but I have entered a full mission description. If my work is successful, I hope to make the missions flyable by both sides and in cooperative and multiplayer (adversarial) form. But first, I have to become proficient. I think you will enjoy the mission and find it a challenge. Even though I designed it, I get a kick out of flying it and have had some excellent dogfights. I am not tired of it at all. As a courtesy, if you DL the mission, please post your review as well as any feedback. Feel free to look under the hood once you've flown it a few times to review my trigger work. Advice and help welcome. THANK YOU! Prime Eagle M01_BETA.miz

Starting a random group from uncontrolled state
TheHighwayman replied to TheHighwayman's topic in Mission Editor
I seem to have figured it out. This post by Mad Tommy had what appears to be a workable solution: There is a pretty simple and robust way to do this. I use it on almost all my missions. Mission Start > Random 50% > Set Flag 1 Mission Start > Random 50% > Set Flag 2 Once > Flag 1 True & Flag 2 True > Set Flag 3 Once > Flag 1 False & Flag 2 True > Set Flag 4 Once > Flag 1 True & Flag 2 False > Set Flag 5 Once > Flag 1 False & Flag 2 False > Set Flag 6 Once > Flag 3 True > Activate Groups 1 Once > Flag 4 True > Activate Groups 2 Once > Flag 5 True > Activate Groups 3 Once > Flag 6 True > Activate Groups 4 Flag 3 - 6 all have a 25% chance of being active, only one can become active. What is missing from his post is you need to turn ON "Late Activation." (Put a check in the box.) Also, the groups that do not activate will not appear as uncontrolled units. That may be important to you or not, if you want to have the inactivated units sitting on the tarmac for some reason. I would bet that too could be figured out, but it is beyond the scope of my present goal. Anyway, I worked it out. Mad props to Mad Tommy, even though the guy appears to be banned. :-( +1 to you anyway! -
I have spent quite a bit of time studying what is already written in the forums regarding randomization, and either I do not understand it very well, or I am missing something, or both. The mission is this: F18 (Player) must depart Groom Lake to defend against a SEAD attack on one of three possible targets (North, East, or South Targets). I want the choice of attack to be random so the player does not know which direction to fly until the attack is formed and inbound from Nellis. At Nellis, the Blue force begins with all aircraft uncontrolled. I can start the aircraft just fine (AI Task Push, then set up start for each group under Triggered Actions). No problem. What I cannot do is make sense of how to get the AI to randomly select a target. I have set up three groups for SEAD mission. I then tried to set a random trigger so that just one of the three groups will start. So far, my result were: no groups start; only the first group starts; all groups start. I cannot get just ONE group to start. I have read the forums, but I cannot make sense of how to set the triggers properly. I have tried several permutations of them. I quite need a simple explanation of the most efficient way to randomize between three options or groups. Thank you for your time!

Is there a way to turn trigger zones off and on?
TheHighwayman replied to TheHighwayman's topic in Mission Editor
I think have figured it out myself. 1. I set a flag which becomes true once the target plane enters the trigger zone. 2. That flag becomes true. 3. I set the two zones and peg them to the unit (unit inside moving zones). 4. I add under conditions: Flag is True 5. I set another zone which turns the flag off (false) This should have the effect of turning the moving zones on and off. Will see!
