The answer was ctrl-y, but this does not work at all! So no, not possible to disable the envelope, unless this is V2 function, which I don't have.

Please DCS give us a function key to get the white chat envelope off, and I mean off for good not to come back when a message is typed, off my screen. If you cant to that, then please make it so that it will drag to the very edge, the very edge, of the screen. At the moment we can drag the chat bar to a new position but it is not possible to get the white envelope to the very edge of the screen. It stubbornly remains in a very immersion killing position. Also, perhaps we could be able to make the chat box smaller please by dragging it smaller from the corner or something. I just don't want chat on my screen or a silly distracting immersion killing white (of all colours) envelope. Thank you in anticipation.

I would just like to say that I think the P51D does cut it against the LW types, but it is not easy, which is as it should be IMHO. The P51D is not at its best in air-quake type scenarios against human or AI, but that is to be expected, surely. I think that once we get more realistic WWII situations with more Allied aircraft and the Normandy map (and the air-to-air visual visibility penalty solved), the P51D will shine more. However, flown with care to the aircrafts strength, I can still hold my own on a MP air-quake server against the 109 and 190. In fact, I have never really been a fan of the Mustang, as I am a big Spitfire fan, but since flying the P51D in DCS I have definitely been converted to a big Mustang fan as well now :thumbup: Happy landings, Talisman

Hi Rob, I am not sure how popular flying in the dark is, but I spawned in and immediately left the server recently because flying at night is not attractive to me for a Korean scenario in the Mig-15. I hope that the server will not be running for hours and hours in the dark :( Happy landings, Talisman

I feel like it could be another 5 years before WWII is going to be viable in terms of a quality experience across the board. Tempest MkV alongside the Spit and P51D would be just a perfect match for the Dora, K-4 and Me 262 time line. Than add some larger bomber types, for both sides, and the dream comes true; you know it makes sense :thumbup: Happy landings, Talisman -

What we could really do with is the Hawker Tempest MkV. This would give the allied side of the map a second aircraft type (other than the SPit) that has cannon armament that would be a good timeline and technological match up and performance parity with the K-4 and Dora. The great shame is that instead of the Tempest, we are getting the Typhoon, which is, again, an older and slower performing aircraft than the K-4 and Dora. It is such a shame that the aircraft sets are not joined up. Never mind, the Me262 will be along in due course and still I expect, on current trend, we won't have the better performing P51D on the higher grade fuel or the Tempest Mk V; I would very much like to be wrong about that though. When we get the Normandy map I hope to be able to fly on servers with more realistic scenarios so that 100% fuel will be needed in most cases. I used to take 100% fuel (left and right tanks) on air-quake servers as I like to take my time to gain altitude and a tactical positioning advantage before engaging the enemy. Also, if badly outnumbered I then have the fuel to out-run the opposition. With the right tactics I can outrun the Dora and the 109K and drag them over the map (I particularly enjoy this, nothing like getting chased by a bunch of LW types and they cant catch up) so they have to turn back or run out of fuel. Although, that was prior to V1.5 as I have not been flying DCS lately due to the visual distance spotting problems. I am waiting in hope for V2 public release. Happy landings, Talisman -

Hi Kurfurst, Initially with the Mk V, but we are talking about the Mk IX. Any way, strange then that the clipped wing went on to be used in later versions of the Spitfire all the way up to the last version. Perhaps something was known about this that has passed you by. I am sure this was something a bit more than what you call a 'niche modification'. I would say that it ended up as part of the natural development of a fighter in a fast moving competitive combat environment. Happy landings, Talisman -

Thanks very much for responding Yo-Yo, it is very much appreciated. Regarding the max climb rate and ceiling, I would not normally expect to race a Bf 109 or FW to 30K to win a dog fight in a Low Fighter version of the Spit Mk IX. For historic lower level fast and short combat in temperate climate weather conditions, I would much rather have the more agile clip wing version, if I was given a choice. If I was on high level bomber escort duty I would take the P51D, but even then I would not be able to out-climb the Bf 109; however, I would already have the altitude, so not too much to worry about there. Though not a consideration for the devs, as a customer, I believe that the Spit Mk IX from DCS is an older aircraft than the currently available LW types (Dora and 109K), so the Mk IX will already be trying to punch above its weight on WWII MP competitive combat servers when it is released (109K will still out-climb Spit with normal wing tips I believe). Therefore, I would at least like to have the advantages of the Spit clipped wing. Any way, theoretically, if you had to repeatedly combat the 109K or Dora between 0-20k Yo-Yo, and your life depended on it, would you take the DCS Mk IX LF clip wing or one with wing tips? I don't need you to answer, but I will go with whatever you would choose in such a situation because I am sure you know more about this than me :thumbup: I presume that the clip wing version is viable in terms of DCS producing an accurate quality product. If not, I suppose the normal wing will have to suffice and that is perfectly understandable. Many thanks for the WWII project work. Happy landings, Talisman -

All these gifts: Faster level speed. Faster acceleration. Faster dive. Faster roll rate (all altitudes). Stronger wings by removal of wingtips, permitting higher IAS to be used. Continued decent turn advantage over opposition. A more agile fighter overall in comparison to standard wing Spitfire. Trial dog-fights conducted against a standard wing Spit at low level were won by the clip wing Spit. With a slight reduction in turn, but still a WINNING turn performance, and people want to say no thanks :lol: Am I reading the correct forum? People saying they actually want an aircraft with less performance for combat :helpsmilie: No, it cannot be :megalol: But, yes, it is. There's now't stranger than folk. Hi Cripple, The thing is we are getting the Low Fighter version from later in the war, so why cripple it with the wing that is not optimised for low level (see what I did there, LOL). Give it the Low Fighter optimised clip wing. As for stall speed, perhaps you are afraid you cannot handle it :P Perhaps DCS are worried that people will find the clip wing too hard to handle; however, I think it provides an interesting prospect and perhaps a refreshing challenge from the standard Spitfire fair we tend to get with flight simulators. I think these may all be good historic reasons why the RAF needed most LF Spitfires to have clipped wings at the time. I very much hope that you are able to deliver us the clip wing Spitfire, which very much represents the historic version of the Spitfire that the RAF so badly needed at the time. No, surely the developers are not back tracking and giving in to pressure on the clip wing. After all, it is a Low Fighter (LF) version, so surely it should have a clip wing (most common for LF). The clip wing is perfectly in keeping with the natural development of the Spitfire for 1944/45 and should not be compromised for the sake of a beauty completion; surely not. The wings were clipped for a very good reason for the time period and LF version operational requirements; lets keep it real. Surely we want the performance for combat on the Normandy map, not just flying around giving air shows. Come on people, lets have the proper most common wing for the LF version and that was clipped! There will be plenty of opportunity for the full wing when earlier versions of the Spitfire are provided. Happy landings (with clipped wing Spits), Talisman
