  1. That is a sweet setup. Looks like a mini military simulator.
  2. The only touch screen I have is on my smart phone. If DCS has touch screen programming, my hat is off to the developers.
  3. The way you guys have the cockpit control panel set up is pretty cool. It would be great if it was a touch screen.
  4. Those are sure some nice setups. All I have is a basic computer chair, but it's very comfortable because I'm sitting on a pile of hundred dollar bills in my wallet that I didn't use to buy a gaming chair...
  5. The big Consumer Electronics Show is this week in Las Vegas, there will probably be a lot of 4K displays as well as new graphics cards(like the GTX 960) unveiled. The whole 4K deal didn't really take off last year so the industry will surely be pushing it as the "next big thing" this year.
  6. I'm afraid my powerhouse GTX 750 Ti would not be the best match for that particular monitor. Besides, by the end of the year it will cost half of what it does now. That's a nice looking monitor. I like Acer but recently they've come up with some odd input options with their low to mid price models and why they continue to put crappy little speakers on large IPS monitors is beyond me.
  7. Here's a quote from the article in the link above: "If you're a consumer you don't have to worry about the internals of endurance management - because most new SSDs are good enough (if they're used in the right applications environment)." For a typical consumer MLC SSD, it would take about 80G of writing to the NAND a day to "wear out" the drive in about five years. If you have enough RAM, the pagefile is probably nearly never used, so why worry about it? If you want to move your stuff off a fast SSD and put it on a hard drive, it's your choice. If you are writing 80G of data to your SSD per day, it's probably a good idea if you plan to give your SSD to your grandkids.
  8. That may have been true a few years ago, but in most cases, there is no need to put the swap file on another drive to "preserve" your SSD. Modern SSDs will last for years with normal use. If you're worried about "using up" your SSD, buy more RAM and your system won't even need a swap file. If you have creative apps, placing your save files on a mechanical drive will save space on your SSD. I also have my scratch discs on a mechanical drive for my Adobe software, including video editing programs that produce large save and preview files, and it runs fine. I would run the OS and your programs on the SSD. If you write large save files, put those save folders on the spinner. As far as your games, pick the ones you play most, put those on the SSD. Even if you put your games on a 7200rpm hard drive, the only time you will notice slowness is when things load. Even if you wear out your 256G SSD in a year or two, which is very unlikely, buy another one for $50.
  9. I have a Steam DCS installation and bought a few aircraft to get started with DCS, but I prefer to play a standalone DCS installation. Turns out the sales are better through the DCS store and aside from the timing of some sales, I don't know what advantage there is with Steam. I wish the Bf 109 was a bit cheaper, but I may get the Mi8MTV2 and/or the Huey.
  10. Neither one of those monitors has that resolution.
  11. It always seems to be that way, doesn't it? I would go for the Acer in a heartbeat if the LG didn't have the IPS panel. As a photo and video editor, it's hard for me to pick a TN over an IPS panel. Of course I need another cable, but if the monitor has HDMI in and my video card has HDMI out, I'll try that first. I know the difference between TN and IPS panels, but these days, a good TN panel may be just as good or better than a low-end IPS panel. My preference would be IPS, but a monitor is more than just a panel.
  12. A local tech big box store is having a sale on monitors and I was thinking of picking up a 27" monitor if I could find a decent one at a good price. I do mostly photo and video editing so a lot of screen space is always welcome. I have two 23.5" Acer monitors on my Asus GTX 750 Ti OC video card. Here's what I'm looking at. Both monitors are $199 and 1920 x 1080 resolution: LG 27MP33HQ - This monitor has an IPS panel which is great, especially for photo editing. 5ms response time, which is good for an IPS monitor. It only has HDMI and VGA input which is not so good, but I have an HDMI port on the video card so it's not a big problem. I can't find a lot of information about this monitor, that's making me a little uneasy. The manual mentions "HDMI incompatibility", which may mean when using VGA and HDMI at the same time or maybe the nVidia RGB issue which is pretty much fixed now and says if the picture is "flickering" to change from 1080i to 1080p. Those two things are definitely a factor. The reviews I could find were pretty favorable. One year warranty. Acer S271HL DBID - This one is a TN panel monitor with 6 ms response time, which is a bit slow, but the games I play work fine on the 5ms Acer monitors I have now and I doubt I will see a difference with 1ms. VGA, DVI and HDMI inputs, that's good. Seems there is a 30 pixel clipping issue with BluRay, but I don't use them, so it's not a major issue. Acer monitors are well known, this one seems to have lots of good reviews. Three year warranty. Having a 27" IPS monitor would be great, but the unknowns with the LG make me a little nervous. Acer monitors have always been good to me, but the slow TN panel compared to the IPS is a factor. I realize 1920 x 1080 is a bit low for a 27" panel but it's all I can afford right now. What do you think?
  13. That's probably because it's in there with the non-newegg vendors and nobody has caught the mistake yet. The joystick in that listing is not sold by newegg. Amazon and newegg watch each other very carefully. When one of them lowers a price on an item, usually the other will match the price within an hour. Newegg wants to get people to their website. Real computer enthusiasts will check out the site every day for deals. You can sign up for their emails(which you will receive every single day) with deals not on the main website. I think if you put an item on your newegg wishlist, you can get an email when it goes on sale.
  14. I wouldn't lose any sleep over it. Newegg can change their prices hourly. Companies like newegg and amazon keep track of each other and match prices on popular items.
  15. You'll get that price one day a year. Newegg throws out deals like that on Black Friday hoping you will do most of your Christmas shopping there. They are offering this deal now hoping there are a few people that have any money left after Christmas. $350 is not a bad deal when the regular price is $415.
  16. I've bought so much stuff there they send me newegg T-shirts! This Warthog is a pretty expensive controller, I would guess this Super Shocker price is going to be about as cheap as it can get. I don't know much about them, I sure can't afford one. If there is a newer model getting ready to come out, the price could be really low because newegg wants to clear out inventory. It's a niche item, for sure, but if the price is good they will probably sell out.
  17. That's correct. The Super Shocker sale items go on sale at specific times during the day and usually last until midnight. Some of the Super Shocker sales are pretty good, lately, some of them have been average. For this item, I would guess somewhere around $350. I've spent more than $50 at newegg over the years and I would agree that they are a good a place to buy tech stuff.
  18. Just a heads up; newegg.com is having a Super Shocker sale on the Thrustmaster 2960720 HOTAS Warthog starting at 1:00 PM PST today(12-30-14). Sometimes you can get great deals on these Super Shocker deals. If it's a really good deal they sell out pretty quickly.
  19. Congratulations to the lucky winner and thanks to ivan_st
  20. I haven't flown these two planes since I got them, the MiG -21 is a lot tougher to get a handle on, I can fly it OK but I can't figure out how to turn the darn thing on the runway. Been doing a little off-roading with it, it gets stuck and blows up! The F-86 reminds me of the Bridges at Toko Ri
  21. I'll give it another shot; I'd love to have that Bf-109. Thanks
  22. I'd love to have the Mi-8MTV2. Thanks for the contests.
  23. Rendering is nearly all CPU, there is no way around it. Sometimes, you can get by with a moderately powered processor, but it's going to take way more time. RAM counts most for production. For work, you need horsepower; CPU, RAM and to a lesser degree, fast and big drives. For games; GPU and CPU.
  24. Congratulations to the lucky winners!
