  1. He didn't say of what year though :smilewink:
  2. Look forward to the days then when BST finishes their AH-1W, and lawnmowing F-15s suddenly find a sidewinder to the face when they try that :megalol:
  3. No offense, but you're doing an awful lot of assuming and then pretending that's somehow confirmed information. Exact dates have not been given. Exact avionics and sensors have not been given. In fact, LN has stated that they may model equipment that was for future use, and so any assumptions to the effect of what you've stated cannot be made with any degree of accuracy.
  4. When did they say 1995? The only dates I've heard for the F-14B is "Mid 90s". Also, what you've written is very confusing. F-14s were most definitely used for air to ground work and were in fact preferred because after the bombcat upgrade, the large screens the RIO had availible to him allowed him to be more accurate than USAF strike craft for designating precision guided weapons. I haven't seen anywhere where LN has either confirmed or ruled out the bombcat upgrade.
  5. As much as i've come to appreciate the Super Tweet, thanks in no small part to Gums over at F-16.net, it is the last of the Vietnam fighters i want to see. Far behind the Crusader, Intruder, Bronco, Corsair, Super Saber ect.
  6. They asked that the Civilian version be given top priority, thus the reaction from those of us who play DCS because of the combat.
  7. When it comes to sorting priorities, you're darned right I take it literally. Civil stuff should be the backburner, only after the actual fighting elements have been included. Development time shouldn't be allocated to civilian models at the expense of the military ones.
  8. .... Firefighting missions? Please no, you guys have Take on Helicopters and FSX for the civil aviation junk, lets keep the priorities straight with the shooting and the blowing of things to smithereens.
  9. The larger wing is heavier, more complex and hinged. Its benefits are primarily felt at very low airspeed, i.e. landing on a carrier. A larger, more complex wing would drive up cost, increase weight and provide little tangible benefit in the flight regimes the Air Force will be operating. Given that the F-35A will be the most produced variant, the cost saving is rather significant.
  10. Purely fictional maps, wars and folk are perfectly fine in my opinon. Strangereal is more interesting than Earth in the Ace Combat games. By embracing that sort of fiction we get more interesting matchups in multiplayer, and far more imaginative campaigns in single player. Being bound purely to real events makes things dull. I'm not "Captain Soandso" i didn't fight in that mission where people died, I'm a sim pilot looking to enjoy the fantasy of being a real one, not a war reenactor.
  11. For DCS Huey, you can change between gunship and slick via the normal loadout menu, it would seem like this would be the natural way multiple weapon variants would be loaded onto the Gazelle as well. What is different about the Gazelle that it cannot simply use the normal loadout menu to determine its armament?
  12. Well if congress weren't so hell bent on robbing other programs to protect any alteration of the hog fleet, maybe we could afford a small upgrade.
  13. To piggyback on this, the aircraft now are designed to give the pilot the most awareness of his missile's limitations as well. Old F-4s just had an "In Range" light. Now we have all kinds of instrumentation to let the pilot know when the missile is actually in a good position to fire.
  14. Lolwut?
  15. It depends on what you want to do. The game comes with the SU-25T, one of the most versatile aircraft in the game so far. It is the only SEAD capable plane, and has a huge selection of air to ground weapons to choose from. Best of all, it's free. The other main module that a lot of people suggest as an entry level is Flaming Cliffs 3. FC3 has a large selection of aircraft for a low price. The SU-27, F-15C, MiG-29, A-10A and SU-25A. All of them are good aircraft, and the SU-27 and F-15C are the current kings of multiplayer air combat. It's value for money, but it has no clickable cockpits, so it's a more 'Sim Lite' experience. A-10C is the most modern of the DCS level aircraft. Supporting complex avionics and most advanced ground attack weaponry, it's an absolute monster, and is a fan favorite with a huge number of player created missions and campaigns featuring it. A steep learning curve is balanced by decent price and high fidelity. MiG-21Bis is the second most modern DCS level plane, and considered by many pilots to be the most real 'feeling' type of plane. While it is a fully clickable cockpit, its 1970s vintage systems make it a piece of cake to learn the switchology. However, it's a difficult plane to fly and vastly outgunned in the air, but a wiley MiG pilot can do quite well. F-86F and MiG-15Bis are also both quality modules that let you relive Korean war era conflict. Both are full DCS level aircraft with clickable cockpits, and built in the 1950s they are easy to learn what buttons to press. They're also very easy to fly aircraft that handle quite nicely making it a pleasure to learn how to fly in them. I would recommend the F-86 over the MiG-15Bis only because the F-86 has a lead computing gunsight, making aerial gunnery easier to learn. If you want a more IL-2 style experience, any of the fantastic WWII modules will do. Full DCS level sims they give you an excellent feeling of flying in a WWII aircraft, the P-51, FW-190 or the BF-109, and there are many more WWII aircraft on the way so there will be opponents for them. The helicopter modules, DCS Blackshark 2, UH-1 Huey and Mi-8 offer a significantly different gameplay style to the fast movers. Utility helicopters often find roles in online campaigns as troop transports used for capturing bases, and the Blackshark is a unique and interesting experience all on its own. At the end of the day, my recommendation is to stick with the SU-25T until you've got a good grasp on the game. If you're looking for something more high flying, pick up FC3 and learn air combat, it's the best value for money as you get so many aircraft in it. I can't comment on campaigns as I haven't played any of the purchasable campaigns, but they don't really seem to be that essential. I would recommend also downloading the 1.5 beta. It runs better and looks better and most servers are scrambling to get new missions to run using it as it's just so damn pretty.

    DCS: F-5E!

You really just don't get it do you? I'll give you another comparison, since you don't seem to understand. During the production of what would become the A-7, Vought decided to base their aircraft on their already successful F-8 design, thinking that it would give them an edge selling to the Navy based on parts commonality, While the F-8 was what the design is based on, the two are radically different aircraft. They look similar, and one is based on the other, but you can't say that the F-8 Crusader should be able to cart Walleyes, Mavericks and Shrikes because the A-7 can. Just because an aircraft is based off another, doesn't mean the designs are at all compatible with each other. You need to learn to understand this fact, because right now all you're spouting is absolute nonsense.

    DCS: F-5E!

It's like talking to a brick wall with you. You cannot extrapolate F-5E capability based on an aircraft that is completely different. Your statement about the F-5E having BVR capability on paper because the F-20 has the capability on paper, is literally the same statement as saying the F-18C and the F-18E have the same capability because they share a designation. The bureaucratic name for an aircraft DOES NOT ALWAYS REFLECT REALITY. Aircraft designation changes all the time, and especially during the cold war era, aircraft were designated under one type of aircraft start their design phase there, before being given their own individual designation. The fact that you do not seem to understand this is very telling as to your understanding of the F-5. The aircraft being modeled is the F-5E, and so the capabilities it will receive are those of the F-5E. The F-20 is a completely different aircraft, and the F-5S is a drastically upgraded aircraft that cannot be considered comparable to an F-5E. You cannot extrapolate capabilities based on this information. It is INCORRECT to say that because the F-5S has AMRAAM capability, the F-5E could do it as well. The overhaul required is a massive undertaking, and thus drastically outside the reasonable expectations of an F-5E sim. Read carefully, pay attention, and research the aircraft.

    DCS: F-5E!

New radar, new flight computer, new wiring. It's a heavy overhaul to bring an 1970s plane into the 21st century. If a dev wants to make an F-5S then yeah, but since BST is making an F-5E, not gonna happen.

    DCS: F-5E!

I'm going to assume that English is not your first language, so here is my suggestion. Get a friend of yours that actually does understand English, get him to read what I'm writing, and then have him translate for you in a way that you will understand. The STRUCTURAL DESIGN OF THE PLANE IS DIFFERENT. There is no part compatibility. I cannot go into a spares shop for an F-5 and get parts I need for an F-20. The planes look similar, but they are radically different. It's like saying an A320 and a 737 are essentially the same aircraft because they both have two engines and a tail. An F-5E is not an F-5S either. The F-5S completely rewires the bird to allow it to carry AIM-120s on its pylons, installs a whole entirely new radar, completely overhauls the cockpit. Structurally they are the same, but internally they are entirely different, and so you will not see AMRAAMs on an F-5E because the overhaul required is so massive, so complete, that you can't just jury rig it on and say "it works". Do yourself a favor, actually learn about the aircraft you're talking about before you start making suggestions.

    DCS: F-5E!

Just because it shares a name and appearance, doesn't mean the aircraft is at all similar. The Hornet and Super Hornet are two completely different planes, despite the fact they are both "F-18s", with about as much compatibility between them as the F-8 and A-7, despite the fact those planes have a similar appearance. In that vein, the F-20 may look like an F-5, but it has a completely different engine, a re-engineered wing, totally different design materials, fly by wire and a totally different electronic scheme. They share a shape and a wing profile, but they are in effect, totally different aircraft, so while the F-20 may be based off of the F-5, just because the Tigershark has a capability doesn't mean anything for the Tiger's capability. In that vein, the F-5Ss have totally overhauled electronics and were given a change in designation making them no longer F-5Es. Since we're getting F-5Es, we're not getting the F-5S upgrade package, so no Amraam slinging for us. The F-5E is a very simple fighter, in terms of AA weaponry we will have 2. Sidewinder equivalents, and the twin 20mm cannons. No sparrows, no Amraams. The plane's radar can't use it, even if we get the most modern radar the F-5E used.
  21. So... because your friends aren't interested in DCS that means that... no body else likes playing the game? Much logic

    DCS: F-5E!

F-20 is to F-5, as F-18C is to F-18E, they are not the same aircraft, it's a huge overhaul, comparing the F-20 to the F-5 is a waste of effort as they're nothing alike. The Singapore F-5s are F-5S, not F-5E. The F-5E will not be BVR capable, not even on paper.
  23. Tirak

    DCS: F-5E!

The F-5E doesn't have BVR capability, the F-5S does, but since BST specifically said we're getting an F-5E, don't plan on any long range AA missiles.
  24. I just don't see you getting the drop on an F-15 flight that's paying attention. Sure you can pick off Captain Headdown. If you don't get spotted on radar, which is a huge if so long as you're not in the weeds, you're a gigantic target to be physically seen. Maybe against old aircraft with poor situational awareness, but not F-15s.
  25. I would make a bet though that you were able to sneak in close because you came in low. A MiG-25 can't do that if you want to hit the full speed envelope and make yourself impossible to catch after the shot. It's frankly and ugly and not particularly effective plane for multiplayer. Single player hunting bombers, sure, but it's no real danger to a fighter.
