How would that be an advantage ? Many sims, notably the IL-2 series, had that displayed. Some joysticks have a % indication on their throttle. And in a real aircraft you could easily eyeball it (in the end you don't need extra precise info for that, even thirds or fourths would be enough). Regarding how, I'm pretty sure it's something that could be scripted.

Well it's not just "chit chat", we've been talking variants, gunsights and avionics of the Mirage while waiting for the next update from the devs.

Concerning the radar, single bar contacts ( - ) are enemy and double bar ( = ) are allies. You have to make sure that your target is well in range before shooting. There should be three tick marks on the left of your HUD, along with an arrow indicating range. When the arrow passes the first mark, the target is in range, but you probably won't hit him. Wait until it passes the second mark, which indicates a good chance of hit. Of course, the closer you are, the better the chance, so don't rely entirely on these marks. About the jammer - those hide your target's range, so wait until you close in and "burn through" the jammer and your radar should give you his range. As for the missile, for a jamming target use the R-27R or ER since they need to be radar-guided. I don't play the campaign, so I'll let someone else answer that, but maybe your throttle is set too high ? Also remember that you use less fuel the higher you are. I hope I helped.

Next DCS (Russian) Fixed Wing Aircraft Wish List
EngineerFalcon replied to Milene's topic in DCS Core Wish List
I would love to see a modern Russian bomber in DCS. The Ty-160 is of course off limits, but I'm wondering if there's enough data on the Ty-22 or early versions of the Ty-95. Hell, even a Ty-16 would be awesome. But we'd need both multicrew and AG radar. Maybe one day... -
Haha, this is exactly it  I never really liked that quote from Dassault. Our Noratlas wasn't particularly a beauty queen. The Mirage, though... And the Étendard family is just splendid.
-
The grass is always greener on the other side, eh ?

I personally don't use ECM for multiple reasons. First, it takes up two hardpoints that can be used for R-73s. Then, there's the problem of the RWR. Eagles can shoot in TWS, and the launch warning is already late enough without ECM. And finally, I kind of get annoyed by jammers online. If I am not mistaken, a radar jammer should not prevent the use of IFF. But since we lack IFF modeling (and probably will for a while)... Usually when everyone is using jammers as soon as they take off, your radar scope becomes a huge mess and there's no point in even trying. Now, if the server has AWACS I'm all for ECM.

[SUGGESTION] Let that pilot grow a head (someday)
EngineerFalcon replied to Bourrinopathe's topic in Su-27 for DCS World
You're not really supposed to move at these angles anyways, but the lack of head shadow is a real problem though, very disturbing. I'm pretty sure it would be quite easy to mod, ED probably have higher priorities. -
No Su-27 auto trim, can it really be true?
EngineerFalcon replied to Hummingbird's topic in Su-27 for DCS World
Call me weird, but I find the Flanker's rwr to be much easier to use. The American TADS has that nasty feature of making icons move dynamically with your craft - but as soon as it updates icons rubber-band back to their actual position, and things get really confusing. -
Yes, you are right. They have never developed any aircraft, including the Mirage, for other flight sims, and they have never posted in this very thread pictures of the current cockpit implementation with working instruments, HUD and displays :music_whistling:
-
My bad. I kept hearing of it as "Sgat's missile mod", didn't know it was a larger effort.
-
The missile overhaul mod is by IASGATG. I think the main problem in making such a mod, apart from research, is getting servers to use it as it puts quite a restriction on players, since many people prefer to fly vanilla. I don't know any servers that currently use such mods, sadly.

Trust me, I do too ! So we just had a different interpretation of the word, fine. Yes, killing FC3 planes is indeed difficult. I don't think GGTharos said that, rather he was comparing the DCS matchup with the real life one, then things got heated, because of a couple of users who had a, eh, "superior" attitude towards FC3 players. Excuse me, it was the impression I got from your post. I usually don't take things that seriously, it's just that I was very confused by your edit. Ok, now that is genuinely funny.
-
OP: Over Powered. That would imply it has an unfair advantage on most DCS aircraft. GGTharos simply said it was more powerful in the sim than in real life. Once again : People in this thread have said the FC3 planes were "the most powerful platforms in the sim". GGTharos simply said they actually weren't as powerful as they are in real life. Excuse me, but someone did say the R3R was modeled correctly. In fact, it was you : You are saying GGTharos is wrong to say the R3R is improperly modeled, thus you are saying it is properly modeled. Excuse me ? Do you genuinely think I hadn't understood the sarcasm in your first post ? This is pretty much it. By the way, since we're talking about the R3R, do you think there's enough data available to fix its FM, like you did for the AIM-9M, AIM-120C and AIM-7M/F ?
-
What ? No one said the 21 was OP. Rather, GGTharos said that the FC3 planes aren't as OP as people in this thread said they were. Also, the R3R is indeed improperly modeled. Just do some research. People can't just fly the planes they like, eh ? They just have to say their plane is underpowered or that the other pilots are noobs.
-
I am literally speechless. Someone comes here to inform you of your misunderstanding of "simplicity" and your answer is to say they are provoking you because they are jealous ? Wow.
-
See ? That's why people think the DCS community is presumptuous. Tell me, IL-2 1946 has no clickable cockpits, so it is more or less FC3 level. Now would you dare say to all the people who played that sim over ten years that they have no knowledge of air combat and navigation because they are not flying DCS P-51 ? FC3 players may have less buttons to click, but the tactics and skills involved are the exact same as for the MiG-21. And, ironically, this kind of "I'm over everyone else because I flip switches" attitude is a good way to get killed online.

That's exactly it on beaming. Cranking is used after firing a missile since you keep guiding it while reducing closure rate. "Notching" means beaming and going low, it can help break a lock (your aircraft gets filtered out as ground clutter). But if you are at long range then snaking can be a good thing, just avoid vertical maneuvers as they bleed a lot of speed. By optically guided do you mean like the Maverick ? Then yes those are hard to defeat since there's no countermeasures for them. There aren't any in DCS though. If you mean heatseekers then those aren't much harder to defeat, but there's no launch warning for them. Since they're made for close combat they're also usually more agile.
-
It's not a bug, the R-27ER on the Sukhoi has a slightly longer range than the 120. But it is semi-active, so he has to maintain lock to hit, while the 120 is active-radar guided, meaning that when it is at a certain distance from target it will "go pittbull", meaning you can break lock and it will track on its own - I don't fly the F-15, but there should be a countdown on your HUD to tell you when it goes active. The Sidewinder is infrared, so it is autonomous as soon as it leaves the rail. The Sparrow, though, is also semi-active. As for you getting shot down : Are you cranking ? Meaning putting the bandit at the very edge of your radar cone. That way he has to travel further to reach you. Being at high speeds when launching your missiles can help increase range and Pk too. For missile avoidance : You have to keep the missile on your 3/9 o'clock. Meaning simply turning 90° won't do, you have to follow it on your Radar Warning Receiver and make it waste all of its energy by turning into it. Also don't waste your flares on radar-guided missiles, drop some chaff when you detect a launch, then do it again before turning harder or diving. I'd also recommend installing TacView to review your flights, that is a great help.

DCS: F-14A/A+/B by Heatblur Simulations coming to DCS World!
EngineerFalcon replied to Cobra847's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
I think you have to select the appropriate station on the ACM panel to do this. -
The Laser Warning Receiver should warn you of incoming laser-guided missiles, no ? Or am I confusing two things.

Does the SU-27 or F-15 carry bombs?
EngineerFalcon replied to ander35's topic in DCS: Flaming Cliffs
The Sukhoi's A2G role is very secondary (Ex. No guided munitions), so its shells are A2A in FC3. As far as I know you cannot change them (You can in the MiG-21bis), and they'll do very little against anything but soft targets. -
I think there might be a better alternative to the commo rose : The Tribes series had a very good comms system, based on easy to remember macros. You press V to open the menu and quickly cycle through the different pages with their initials. Here's an example : You see a golden opportunity to grab the enemy flag, and press VSAF : Voice->Self->Attack->Flag Then request some cover fire with VNC : Voice->Need->Cover And after proudly capturing the flag, you taunt your enemy with Voice->Global->Taunt->Great ("I am the greatest!"). As you can see it's pretty intuitive, and I think it'd work quite for Jester. For example, you could ask for a contact report with Voice->Radar->Contacts, or turn off the jammer with Voice->Jammer->Stop.

Is the radar operation chapter included ? My copy of the NAVAIR manual had that part completely left out :music_whistling:
-
The stick has a pinkie switch for Pilot Lock-on mode, AP override paddle, weapon selector and possibly some countermeasures buttons. The throttle has speedbrake controls, a button for NWS, and a four-pos switch for wing sweep. Up is Auto mode, Down is Bomb mode, and fore-aft are manual control (You can't sweep more forwards than the sweep recommended by Auto mode at that speed though, you have to use the Emergency sweep lever on the right of the throttle). There's some more buttons on the throttle but I can't find any info of them, and I don't know where I put the NAVAIR manual.
