[ALREADY FIXED] Engine noise/sound cutting out
Aluminum Donkey replied to mariner3302's topic in Bugs and Problems
It might actually not be a bug. I heard about it a long time ago, but apparently the Hornet's shockwave cone at transonic speeds is not stable, it fluctuates producing a pulsing noise... It's not engine noise, and not just the Hornet either, but it's really noticeable in that aircraft. I just set my Sound options to "Hear like in helmet", and it's not a big deal--it doesn't "bark" loudly at you anymore. You just barely notice it around Mach 1, and it might very well be quite realistic. Without "hear like in helmet" mode turned on, it makes quite an annoying racket. So... you know what to do now :) AD -
That rocks eh :D The Huey was my old favourite, but the Hornet one is a killa jam :) AD

Anyone else using the Hornet as their DCS wallpaper? The guitar parts in the music kick ass :) AD

[NO BUG]Gun ROF HI/LO is the same
Aluminum Donkey replied to Deadpoetic6's topic in Bugs and Problems
There seems to be a difference for me in the actual fire rate, but the sound effect is the same. Or, maybe I'm just seeing things... Gun is mighty effective in either mode--if you're able to hit anything with it :) AD -
Greetings eh I have the TM Cougar and there doesn't seem to be any option to use the microstick as the radar TDC slew control in the F/A-18. I really like using it for this, but would rather not program it to generate keystrokes in Foxy because I use it for the other modules as pair of normal axes. Any ideas? I suppose I could hack out a Foxy program so the microstick pumps out a string of keystrokes, and then just re-config all my other modules, but that would be a bit of a pain in the arse :) AD

My first impression: Dang this sh!t takes too long to download :) AD

Monitor Angle for 3 monitor setup
Aluminum Donkey replied to tonypu1's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
In all honesty, 3 monitors side-by-side is rather useless for a flight sim. Because of how airplanes fly you're better off with one central, main screen, and another large screen rotated 90 degrees and placed ABOVE your head, with the two edges meeting, so that way you can look up and see into your lift vector (i.e. the direction you intend to turn in.) Never done it, but I might try one day, you know--when DCS is finally finished enough and playable enough to be worth the trouble :) AD -
I'm pretty sure it's caused by SSAA being turned on. Try turning it off and use MSAA instead. SSAA is nice but it seems to need a little debugging (or a lot)! AD

Game speed
Aluminum Donkey replied to frodrigues2016's topic in Release Version Bugs and Problems (Read only)
Your i7-4790 (non-K version) and 32GB of memory are excellent! Your CPU isn't quite as zippy as the very latest stuff, but it's still really good. The problem is your ancient/archaic video card. The GTX 750 is completely off the bottom end for DCS World. Get yourself a GTX 1080 Ti (or maybe a regular 1080 to save some dough, or even a GTX 1070 to save a *lot* of dough) and you'll be ready to rock & roll! Don't waste your time or cash on a newer CPU until you've done a *massive* video card upgrade. 4th Generation Intel stuff is great, ignore the 8th-gen fanboys, and especially ignore anyone that brags about their Core-i9 :) Peace and happy warfare AD -
I'll keep that in mind... Actually I'm from Quebec, Canada but I haven't spoken French in many years. It's a shame, I miss it. AD

Hasn't happened to me, sorry. I was flying the A-10 as well. Repair DCS World? AD

Sounds and vibrations during taxi and take off/landing
Aluminum Donkey replied to HWasp's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
Like all the squeaks and rattles as you taxi over bumps, like a 1980s Japanese car, or a 2010s American car :) AD -
??? It's pretty nice, but it's no 1080 Ti, not even close. Great for any and all games, but on some occasions, shows its limitations in DCS World (usually Normandy, mirrors on, over a big city). Admittedly, I shake my head at people who run two 1080 Ti's in SLI (and a 10C/20T CPU) just to play dumbass games like CoD :D (not that I have a problem with CoD, but it's easy to run) AD

Now all we have to do is crawl out of our skin waiting for it to get released, and then we can agonize over whether or not to fork over $850 for a used GTX 1080 Ti ;) AD

Just pre-ordered the F/A-18C and Persian Gulf map. Now I get to enjoy pacing around the house chewing my fingers down to little nibs waiting for it :) hehehe Hope it's good Peace and happy warfare all AD

Really confused about Deferred Shading
Aluminum Donkey replied to Swany's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Just curious, why do you want to turn it off? You have a GTX 1080 Ti, which should effortlessly run anything you throw at it at stellar framerates, even in VR. So why turn DS off? It's on by default in 2.5.1 and can't be turned off, it's an integral part of the sim now and not an option. AD -
good performance in 2.5 despite old rig
Aluminum Donkey replied to Hog_No32's topic in Game Performance Bugs
How much memory does your PC have? I'm asking because DCS needs a huge Windows pagefile for some reason, regardless of reported memory usage. The newest version typically uses a bit more than half of my 16GB system memory, and a bit more than half of the 8GB video ram, but it crashes if I don't have a big pagefile (20GB total pagefile size). I don't know why that is, I'm not a coder and I don't work for ED :D So, you might be able to get DCS running on your box if you go into your Windows system settings and set up a large pagefile. Windows itself will only make it so large when left to System Managed, if you want a bigger one you have to set it up manually. Try setting it to 20GB, reboot your machine and see if that works. AD -
It's always been this way in FC3, and it's probably fairly realistic--I'm pretty sure the FC3 aircraft are all intended for hard-surface operation only, and rolling through the dirt/grass will cause the wheels to dig in and you'll get stuck. Still, I have a hard time believing that a lightly loaded F-15 or Su-27 at full afterburning thrust wouldn't be able to roll its way out, so you could be right. The MiG-21 could operate from soft surfaces, the wheels were big enough for the aircraft's weight that it wouldn't sink in. If you have the module, you can try rolling onto the grass and you shouldn't get stuck. I haven't tried it in a while though. AD

good performance in 2.5 despite old rig
Aluminum Donkey replied to Hog_No32's topic in Game Performance Bugs
Wow, time for a new box, even if it's older and fairly cheap. If the bread situation is a little grim, you should be able to scour Ebay and/or maybe some local computer shops to cobble together a half decent performing desktop rig for relatively few bucks. Keep in mind that flight simulation, especially something like DCS, is always really demanding as far as PC hardware goes. It's almost a miracle of software development that ED have managed to get something like this running so well on a huge variety of consumer grade computers... If it makes you feel better, there are still some dudes on this forum that must have mortgaged a kidney for all the most costly versions of the latest and greatest gear, and they still complain about framerate drops and painfully long loading times :) AD -
good performance in 2.5 despite old rig
Aluminum Donkey replied to Hog_No32's topic in Game Performance Bugs
That's because your 'old rig' is very good by today's standards! If you bought your computer when all that hardware first became available to the consumer, then it probably cost more than any car I've ever driven on regular basis :) What was a GTX 980 Ti when they first appeared, about $1500? I remember wanting one, and nearly laughed and cried at the same time when I saw the price, about 2 or 3 times the pre-release guesstimated MSRP... Mind you, I'm Canadian and we get screwed here on vid cards (and memory) for some reason. Besides, I already had a "high end" GTX 560 1GB :D hehehehe AD -
Engine Limitations: Are they modeled?
Aluminum Donkey replied to Nealius's topic in DCS: Spitfire L.F. Mk. IX
It's real easy, just hit the gas and keep it in a very steep climb. Airspeed too low for proper cooling, engine overheats, and kablooey :) Now that you mention it, there might be an option for realistic engine behavior under the Special tab, in the Options menu... I just haven't looked at it in a while. AD
