Mine failed with two different powered hubs. Work fine in mobo. -
Thrustmaster MFD Cougar pack
Icarus2 replied to Vekkinho's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I had this too. I tried it in another computer and it worked. They do not like USB hubs and will either shutdown intermittantly or all together just stop. Try plugging it directly into your mobo. -
MFD Extractor + 2 x 7" or 8" TFT's MFDE is free, 2x TFT's are about $200. You can get MFDE at Viperpits. MFDE does all the guages on the left monitor and the two MFD's. You need a second computer to run the MFDE shared memory client/server program. Works best with OF, MFD's are only in 2D pit with F4AF.

This is fun and pretty. The time limits have got to go though. They really ruin the immersion factor. Points for faster victory or penalty for slowness would be much better.

Cougar Hotas Throttle Quadrent Issues
Icarus2 replied to Boneski's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Or a loose wire. Many Cougar owners have learned to solder, including me. Open 'er up and take a look. -
Those are the headphones I have Turtle Beach Earforce HPA 5.1 Surround headphones. I was trying to say earlier that in my experience the surround does work. I agree with your technical theory, but in my ears when in Crysis and COD4MW2 you can hear the sound move all around 360 degrees (for example the sound of someone walking behind you and the to the side and then to the front). Of course it is not as good as surround speakers, but somehow the surround does seem to work in these headphones (game and likely soundcard dependent). I think the subwoofer is an artificial sub, but I find it better than no sub at all when you get used to the vibration. I don't know how they do it or if it is artificially produced, but for me it is far superior to any stereo headphones I have used ( I should qualify that this is only for gaming purposes and not music).

I read your posts with interest and defer to your expertise on this matter. However, I should relate to you my empirical experience. I have 5.1 surround sound headphones and yes when I first used them I was not used to them and they were a bit of a dissappointment (I was wondering why until I read your post). I am now used to them and hear a noticible difference in sound quality and sound movement over stereo headphones. While there is little difference in the sound in older titles, IMHO the surround experience with 5.1 surround headphones in games like Crysis and COD4:MW2 is startling with 5.1 headphones. It is not a recreation of the surround experience I get from my home theatre speakers, but the footsteps walking around a room are umcanny in the 5.1 headset. Subwoofer speaker is tons better than 5.1 headphones even if it has vibration. Where I think the headset excels over speakers is that they give an intense sense of immersion, because you are cut off from reality and this helps the illusion. I have both 5.1 speakers and 5.1 headset for my computer and I use the headset for gaming 99% of the time, even when no one is home. Look forward to your thoughts sobek.

MFD Exporter. It does the 2 MFD's and all those guages on the left monitor from my kitchen computer. The right monitor has TS and I used to have Weapons Delivery Planner, but it does not seem to work with Vista 64, at least I haven't got it to work. I'm jealous of your girlfriend on your desktop. Wanna trade?

I don't know why, but when I use the exact same settings in nVidia control panel and the same in nHancer, when the nHancer profile is activated it is noticibly better than when I use nVida CP. Not huge but I see a difference.

Can't get Cougar working, tried everything..
Icarus2 replied to Spetz's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
How can he do that if the program won't install in the first place. He says it hangs at 50% on install. If he can't install it there is no HOTAS folder. I think that is what he is saying. -

Well if he'd have been more accurate. Others have fixed this problem by installing with Compatability mode and/or run as administrator. Google is up last I checked.:music_whistling: -

Ok, so we know its not the software (it works on mine and others) and we know its not Vista (it works on mine and others), so its either something you are doing differently (and you say its not that) or its your Vista install or a corrupt file in your system (I can't find any reference to tube.dll anywhere and my system does not have such a file). If you can find it rename it and reinstall the Cugar software. The only other suggestion I have to remedy that is you know what. The R word. Sorry, just trying to help. -

Well, we know its not Vista64, because no one elses would work either. I have installed it in Vista 32 and 64 many times with no trouble. Are you using "run as administrator"? But if its hanging like that, it is likely looking for something (tube.dll?) that is missing or corrupt. Are you running the file from a zip or rar file? Vista doesn't like that and often requires the app to be extracted to desktop. Also, TM website is confusing and easy to get the wrong one: -------------------------------------------------------------------- Windows Vista 64bits System Requirements: • Windows Vista 64bits Installation Instructions: 1. Unplug your HOTAS Cougar joystick. 2. Run the "2007_HCO_VISTA_64_RC1.exe " setup to install the new version. 3. Follow the instructions on the screen and Reboot your computer (if asked to) . 4. If Windows ask you, follow the instructions to install the drivers. 5. You are then ready to use your Hotas Cougar. [Windows Vista 32bits (x86)] 48 MB XNot this one [Windows Vista 64bits (x64)] 48 MB >This is the one ---------------------------------------------------------------------- They are both under the 64bit heading so its easy to click the wrong one by mistake. That would make it hang big time. -

Mine works flawlessly (with Vista64). Kuky's advice was something I had to do for a couple of things in Vista64. I had trouble the first time I installed my cougar (my bad), but not for the last 10 or so times. Are you plugging it in and erasing the firmware with the throttle hooked up? You have to follow the instructions exactly or you will have trouble like I did. The best install guide was on Frugs "Cougar world" and was very precise, but that is unfortunately gone for now. I hate to see people dumping their new Cougar's for install problems. -

Oh, sorry. Now I know why your stick is between your legs.:megalol: Jokes aside, I assumed you were flying F4, since you had all the screens set up and working. You think waaay ahead brother. As you know that setup works pretty well with F4 right now. Its really very cool locking up MAV's without a mouse or keyboard, and you are 80%+ there already with that setup. Ahhh the potential. Happy flying.:pilotfly: -

Kuky are you flying a superviper and using the centre one for the pedistal display? Or is it a touch screen for the ICP? -
WoP runs great all on high on my rig even at 2560 x 1600 res. It was stuttery if I engaged an nHancer profile, even if it was all on application. When I went back to default driver settings with the game on the highest settings, it ran beautifully and looked great, no jaggies, nothing, just nice looking. Swastikas on.:shocking: The only real gripes I have are the 19 page excuse for a manual that is not much better than the readme.txt (a key map would also have been nice) and the static campaign (not even a mission tree for a pseudo dynamic campaign like CFS3!). Basically its a bunch of single missions with cut screens. FM could also be better, but its not that bad IMHO. Oh, and some of the interactive UI text is garbled at 2560 x 1600. res. Other than that, I think it is really fun and pretty challenging for me on simulation mode. Loads of nice screenie opportunities, that's for sure.

Working MFD screens I put some TFT's behind them for working MFD's. This photo was my test run. Works in 2D only for F4AF, but 3D works in OF. It would be great for the DCS Warthog if the shared memory software gets written for it. The "on" light was too bright IMO, so I put a small sticker over it to reduce the glare. It still looks bright in this photo. -
That is a good idea, and they are on a USB hub with 7 ports so I can do both with out unplugging. The only thing is, instead of groping with the placement, I"d be groping with trying to grab the MFD's on the monitor upstairs. Its still a two person job, but at least with your idea the placement would be easier. Thanks, don't know why I didn't think of that. Yes, the placement stays as long as you do not change anything. When you open MFDE each time, the guages and MFD's are in the position you had them last. You do not have to place them every time. Thank goodness. Unplugging and replugging the TFT's may mess up the placement because the system is seeing "new hardware" every time you do, so be careful if the placement is an issue.

The Samsung ones I have are USB monitors. They hook up to your PC via USB ports (two ports each monitor). I used a USB/Cat5 converter and ran the signal through a Cat6 cable and back to USB converter to a USB hub which was plugged into its power souce near the sim rig but the USB connection was to the upstairs computer, which runs the left monitor and the two TFT's on the left of my sim rig downstairs 30 ft away (USB cables won't work well at that length). Your PC will detect them like a memory stick and they will appear in Windows display properties/settings as monitors. One or two is the same thing. Go there and check the box enable "Extend my Windows desktop onto this monitor." and apply for each of them. Then your wallpaper will appear. Then I turn on MFDE upstairs as client and go downstairs and turn it on as server then fly. It sends the data to my kitchen computer (they are networked) and then displays it on the monitor to left and the TFT's, which are next to my sim rig, but wired to my kitchen comp upstairs. Its a b!tch centering them on the screen when the mouse is 30 feet away from the monitors, but you only have to do it once unless you reinstall the software or something. Hope that is helpful.

Methinks too. Especially when you get the box and its only a bit bigger than an egg carton.
