  1. The LANTIRN pod does have an AA mode, at least when coupled with the F-15E. I believe the AA mode is classified to some extent.
  2. #1 is Firefox.;)
  3. SV, are those quotes all from the same movie?
  4. i swear I've heard it being called the Sperm before.
  5. Kev, no-one has figured out my quotes and I thought by including both the question and answer (rather than just the answer) it'd be too easy.
  6. Were there specific LANTIRN jets or did the hardware get moved around a bit?
  7. Nice! Thanks Cobra.
  8. Those are early warning radar symbols Skyracer.
  9. Unfortunately the Hornet doesn't carry the CBU-97 Accipter and I don't think the Navy bought any for that matter. The Navy may have a JSOW variant with BLU-108 sub-munitions however, but I'm not sure.

    F-15E?

    Nice, fat CBUs. :)

  12. What a great interview. Thanks for collating it Hummingbird.
  13. Okay, if anyone reads this and wants to pass the time, the rules are as follows: 1) The quote must come from an aviation related movie, it can come from any part of the movie (preferably the flying or military activity scenes), including love scenes if you're so inclined  Partial quotes are okay if the full quote makes it too easy. 2) The person to guess correctly is next to post a quote (which can be a different quote from a movie already mentioned) and so on. So I'll start with two quotes: Question - "You will be outta here wontcha?" Answer - "So fast you can't believe it"
  14. Any jet that can carry such a large assortment of bombs, missiles and stores, that it becomes difficult to tell if the plane is flying the weapons or vice verse, gets a thumbs up. As for the Topgun quotes from you both, Oh Jesus! But it gives me an idea for another thread.:)
  15. Thanks. The A-10 is the odd one out from the bunch, but even so you really can't go wrong with any of the others, all fine selections. BTW what is it about the 'C' instructors you had or is it just a 'fighter pilot' thing as streakeagle suggested below?
  16. That's interesting. Again, I'm a civilian and I'm not familiar with the UPT process or how it prepares pilot's, so I'm approaching this with a different mindset I guess. Completely ignoring the whole flying with a WSO angle, the F-15E is a fantastic jet, it does air-to-air, air-to-ground, can employ a wide range of weapons and has a great avionics suite to play with. I would have thought that made it a highly sought after appointment. So does that mean after a pilot goes through UPT, despite the F-15E being an incredible jet, it would generally come lower down this list of planes to fly, than the Raptor, F-16, F-15C now the F-35 and perhaps even the A-10 (not sure if the A-10 fits in here though)?
  17. The tunnel station is 12 for the missile + 10 for the rail, so 22 per weapon for each of the forward stations. The glove station is 12 for the missile + 3 for the pylon, so 15 in total. A DI of 8 for a rear AIM-54, is only valid if it's in the slipstream of another AIM-54 ahead, which would mess up the loadout, as I don't think a Sparrow could then be added to the tunnel? I agree, Eldur. I was just curious about how the performance would vary given an identical number of weapons and type.:)
  18. So a phoenix on the glove station is far less draggy than in the tunnel with the weapons rail!
  19. Thanks for the info Victory. I thought the Phoenix rails were a thousand pounds a piece, but they're much less than that.
  20. I don't know how it was for the Tomcat with weapons in the tunnel, but with other aircraft, having one weapon in the slipstream of another, sometimes does very little to it's drag index.
  21. I have a lot of time for the A-6. Great plane.
  22. If you were in school, you'd be in detention writing lines saying: "A backsitter is much more than a PA. They're with me to do more than take my calls and arrange meetings with the tanker".
  23. Fighting talk, the single seat mafia has descended:D. Okay, you had it a little easy. Open sky's, medium altitude, plenty of time for sight seeing. If you went old school, low level, deep strike, moderately high threat, either you skip that beat or you tell 'R2' "Hey buddy, I'm sorry for calling you a glorified autopilot that dreams of being an actual pilot. I'm sorry for the time I traded you in for 1000lbs of fuel, a 4 pack of beer and a pizza. I can't live without you man, come back to me!". I've seen that low level route you flew 'Scariest flight of my career' (great video by the way). It was your first, but we'll gloss over that. Daylight, friendlies and a chaperone, now that's a cool breeze on a warm summers day compared to a Strike Eagle old school mission. Runs for cover ducking, looking over his shoulder......;)
  24. .....than a loaf and extra pair of eyeballs?
