Operation "Blue Flag" - 24/7 PvP Campaign - ROUND 4
decipher replied to gregzagk's topic in Multiplayer
i have a couple of questions regarding the troops: 1.if i drop troops (AAA or Radar) in "area wide" somewhere NOT near a base/city/FARP: a. will they be of any use at all? - like additional AAA to protect FARP etc. b. how long will they stay at their location? c. will they still be there after 3 hour mission restart? d. can a different helicopter pilot (same team) pick them up again? - (by requesting evac mission when in range) 2. if i drop troops on a different friendly FARP/base/city that is already captured and secured, will they be of any use, or will that unit just disappear? --------- depending on where the frontline is, transport helicopters sometimes have to fly almost an hour to reach active mission targets, so i just want to make sure i know every detail about how the troop system is working to make the most out of it in this new round! -
much needed updates, i hope they won't take 2-3 more years to finally implement these things... i very much enjoy flying the huey and have to thank belsimtek for hours and hours of fun flying, but it just misses this little bit of extra realism to the simulation to be almost perfect!

heeee. looks good. with the long range BVR missiles not being available this round (if i saw it correctly in the PDF) things will be getting interesting i think! i was already registered through the buddyspike website, but can't find my (old) name on this list, which i changed in the meantime... just to make sure: decipher - REDFOR - Ka-50/Huey - (my old name was just "deci").

i guess that only leaves the Huey for me to fly, which is totally fine as long as there are enough troops to transport! Last Blue Flag had some really exciting moments, especially since there were so many people from all over the world playing together and the teamwork (even though mostly improvised) seemed pretty good. looking forward to it

[Open Beta 1.5] Left/Right Gunner Sounds switched
decipher replied to decipher's topic in Bugs and Problems
never saved a track before, but seemed to have worked. you have to fast forward a bit though. what i hear in this: left gunner starts firing, i hear the gun sound coming from the right. when i start turning my head around slowly, the sound kinda "wanders" from left to right - at one specific head angle the sound fits the location of the gunner. same for the right side gunner, just the other way around. i re-checked the track and at least on my system it is clearly audible during the replay. also captured on this track: the AI gunners don'T target the soldiers on the ground (they do on 1.2) but i think that was already reported. sound test uh-1h-gunners.trk -
when the right rear gunner fires, i hear the shooting sounds coming from the left behind me. when the left rear gunner fires, i hear the shooting sounds from the right behind me. this is with a normal Stereo setup soundcard, i compared it to my identical set up 1.2 stable installation and the sounds play correctly there.

TAW KA50 training, this Staurday 12 o'clock CST
decipher replied to Reaper6's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
i would like to thank reaper6 for this in-depth cockpit orientation and startup checklist training session. Even-tough i already practiced alone (with his checklist pages loaded into the ka-50 kneeboard), this teamspeak lesson really helped to strengthen my understandings of what's what in the Ka-50. Thank you for investing your time in this! i hope for upcoming lessons more people will show up, it is really worth it for everyone who wants to get more Ka-50 experience and Reaper6 has a very relaxed but informative way of teaching! -
TAW KA50 training, this Staurday 12 o'clock CST
decipher replied to Reaper6's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
i am familiar with flying, navigating and engaging targets in the Ka-50, but i only did the cold-start once and was kinda overwhelmed, so i am looking forward to this! -
If you want to sit on the Tarmac for 45 minutes...
decipher replied to Reaper6's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
if you put the files in a folder named "ka-50" in the kneeboard folder, they will only show up in the ka-50. this works for all modules (folder names = same names as the config/input folders for each module) proper filepath for this method: "C:\Users\$USERNAME$\Saved Games\DCS\KNEEBOARD\ka-50" - $USERNAME$ = your windows username :) -
Operation "Blue Flag" - 24/7 PvP Campaign - ROUND 3
decipher replied to gregzagk's topic in Multiplayer
from what i saw throughout the days was that during European early morning there were (every day) around 10 blue vs 0 reds for a couple of hours. during that time blue usually (re-) captured everything up to beslan on the east and up to sochi on the west. then, during European noon and early afternoon it was mostly red players (around 10 against 0-2 blues) taking their turn in (re-)capturing the mid-coastal areas from sochi to sukhumi. late afternoons would see the emergence of the blue F-15 pilots of death from above, which occasionally left the red helicopter pilots frustrated and well... dead :) while i am pretty sure this was a general pattern throughout the 7 days, of course it varied more or less every day. since the event ended around European midnight, it was just before the mystic all blue early morning flood, so that saved Redfor i think :) also worth mentioning: the almost endless PTSD inducing battles of Tbilisi... Red helicopters sneaking through the night, slowly creeping forward bit by bit... while high above (not really that high most of the times.. :) ) an endless swarm of hungry blue eagles were circling, waiting for the perfect moment to strike down on another poor helicopter! ps: honestly the blue F-15s were ruling the skys and it was frustrating sometimes... but it was a really great experience. especially when the server was really full with pilots of both sides. -
the openbeta installer i downloaded shortly after the release checked for my pre-installed stable dcs world folder, copied over several GB data and then downloaded a couple of more GB from the ED servers, so it does take a lot of base-files (i am guessing 3d models, map data, textures, soundfiles etc) and then updates the whole thing.

personally i think it is a bit too early to completely hop over to 1.5 for serious Campaigns etc. i have both installed (my stable 1.2.16 AND the 1.5 openbeta). of course the new engine is brilliant and looks great, but judging from the bug report forum, there still seem to be problems with memory leaks for the graphics engine and also multi-player servers that might spoil the fun if you play longer campaigns / missions. on a different note. where do you guys fly online, when operation blue flag is not running? i don't have much experience with DCS online flying and don't have any friends playing it, but there were some great guys in the REDFOR team and i enjoyed flying with them - some intense helicopter missions  -

i would like to thank Xcom , 373vFS_Greg, 373vFS_Crash, buddy spike and my REDFOR teammates for this exciting multiplayer experience. this was really my first time playing DCS (or any serious combat flightsim) online in multiplayer and i am looking forward to the next battles! -

man that was frustrating. i helped capturing cities/Farps/airports in tense helicopter missions and then i saw myself on the LAST place on that scoreboard. not that it really matters, since... its all about the flying :) -
i am curious about that too. if there isn't already, maybe a short description for each option would be nice and good for testing. so we know what difference it makes - and what we should expect when testing. like Flat Terrain Shadows and the different model visibility settings.

Severe Framerate dips while firing Vikhr Missiles
decipher replied to briguy3's topic in Game Performance Bugs
testing this in the ka-50 instant action - target practice mission. i have VSync on 60, the FPS is rock-solid on 60 even when zoomed in onto the SHKVAL screen and when firing the VIKHR, but it will drop to 52 FPS one second BEFORE the missile hits the target. it should be noted that this happens even when i look away to the opposite direction (with trackIR). so neither the SHKVAL screen, nor the actual target or missile or explosion is in my view at all. i already joined this last night, without being registered.. i saw it on the server browser and it looked interesting. i don't have any squadron or friends flying DCSworld, also no mic.. so i am probably useless for most other people playing .. i did enjoy flying a night sortie with my huey transporting troops to an airbase which was under attack tho :) is it too late to still get registered? i would like to give it some more tries, transporting troops, etc.. was pretty exciting to see a whole lot of real pilots high up doing their thing, while i was in the eggbeater down there somewhere :)... Pre-Purchase NEVADA Test and Training Range
decipher replied to KEULE's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
i am on the fence.... on the one hand i would really like to pre-order this, i LOVE desert maps in general and specifically the area around vegas and want to support ED with DCSW2.0... but the min/recom. Specs (as some others before already mentioned) worry me. i don't fly on max settings, tuned it according to my system and am able to maintain around 45-60 (vsync limit) FPS. the most slowdowns are when i stare right into explosions or the smoke of burning vehicles... i wonder how much the performance increases of the new engine will "even out" the much higher minumum specs, when flying over nevada (with the SAME settings - like render distance, etc)... running a GTX660-2GB with 8GB ram on an i5 3750 (~3.8ghz) -
Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS - question to owners
decipher replied to decipher's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
just as a followup notice to sum this story up: thrustmaster support told me the "throttle behaves normally" and the "please open your stick and check if rubber ring is in place", they supplied a PDF and everything. i decided to use my right to return the whole package to amazon germany and get a replacement unit for no extra charge and all free shipping of course. i know that at some point the warthog probably needs servicing that you can DIY, but fiddling around with a brand new unit.. no thankyou. long story short: just got my brand new warthog, the throttle is NOT wobbling like the one before (so there actually was a problem with the first!) and the stick is MUCH more smooth and feels like i had imagined it would feel before i started my warthog Odyssey. now i have to wait for a dcs sale to finally get the a-10 and hokum and start getting busy with building a little homecockpit setup :) -
Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS - question to owners
decipher replied to decipher's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
thanks guys, this input of yours is really appreciated. i am in contact with thrustmaster support now and already sent them over a detailed description and video and everything they need/asked for. it was a "big" step for me to finally buy the warthog HOTAS (most expensive "hobby" gear i bought in a long time) and so my inital joy was a little crushed... let's see how it will work out. thanks again! -
sorry for this topic, but this is the only place i could think of where to ask this. when google-searching for problems like "stiction" it always end up around here so there might be some people to give me some insights. i just got my first (brand-new) warthog HOTAS from amazon to use with my beloved DCS Huey, DCS p-51 and other Flight Simulators. this seems to be a brand new manufactured unit and while it feels and works great and i love it... i almost instantly felt that there was something wrong. the Flight Stick wants to "stick" in a position when moved slowly/gently. now this is especially noticable when flying the huey since you generally want a lot of very small and short stick inputs for hovering and transitions and all the egg-beater stuff. after i noticed this i tried to do a google search and found out this is a problem known to many people and it is called "stiction" (i did not know about this before buying it). also my right throttle lever feels wobbly/loose when stationary (the axis movement is ok). but when pressing the buttons on the throttle lever the whole thing feels loose and wobbly... anyway... now i am from germany and we have a 14 day return policy. so i could repack and sent the thing back to amazon, to either get a new unit or my money back. or going for thrustmaster support. in general i would really love to keep the warthog system, but i don't want to DIY repair a BRAND NEW unit (to change grease or anything)... i read around here that the quality control seems wonky with the HOTAS so a new unit might feel like 100% better (no initial stiction etc.)... or return it, get my money back and go for a different HOTAS? i could really help some general feedback of recent owners of the warthog i guess.. S!
