recently rediscovered the server, after flying in the nevada desert for a while and i love all the skynet menu features. the heli rescue missions (have not tried the others yet) are reall fun and a great thing to do, when i just want to fly my huey. latest highlight was shooting down an enemy mig-24 with a missile from my F-86 Sabre, took a lot of F10 -> "wheres the enemy!" spamming, but was really exciting and first time in sabre for me :D

So, is it possible to do a stable pick-up into hover?
decipher replied to Bearfoot's topic in SA-342M Gazelle
Seems like a plausible explanation. We have to remember that a flight model is basically just a piece of software code with a lot of variables and conditions reacting to the ingame world/physics which is just another piece of software code... so it can be realistic in one state (flight) but might have actual wrong coded physics in another (while on ground). reporting weird behavior of these specific situations should not result in heated discussions of fellow Players against each other, but just in objective descriptions of the observed problems. to decide if this observed behavior is a result of limitations of the engine, errors of the coder, bugs in the code or realistic and intentional is up to the Developers, after reviewing all reports. it is not a matter of Pilot A saying "i can do it, so it must be real" or Pilot B saying "i cannot do it, so it must be unrealistic!" or pilot C saying "i once saw a gazelle on a safari, they can't fly at all!"... An example from another DCS module: the Mig21 seems to be well received and has a great FM, very indepth systems etc (one of my favorite modules!), but when you taxi onto grass it will get stuck completely and stop moving, even with full afterburners. -
So, is it possible to do a stable pick-up into hover?
decipher replied to Bearfoot's topic in SA-342M Gazelle
its interesting to follow this and other topics about the FM and other very detailed stuff people try and test with the gazelle. i have not yet bought it, but it is definitely high on my interest list, since the huey and blackshark are my favorite Helis in DCS and i have hundreds of hours with the dodosim 206 in FSX (think huey, only even MORE realistic). watching the videos and seing this specific topic i wonder how heavy exactly the big camera "hat" is ontop of the cockpit (and don't forget the extra electronics, screen etc, in the cockpit, even more weight towards the nose). that probably will shift the Center of gravity towards the nose a lot compared to a normal "clean" civil gazelle and could explain the differences at least to some extend! -
+1 indeed! love the huey. really, really hope this will finally be implemented. c'mon BST you can do it! maybe for dcsworld 2.5? :smilewink: ps: thanks to DSPALLASVI. the script works nicely and its interesting to play with, but i think its too strict right now. i don't think the engine would instantly shut down when you go over a limit? like... it will definitely accrue damage the longer you go over the limit and reduce its operational time. but completely failing would be more or less random, right? it might break down instantly, or in 10 seconds or you were lucky and could make it out.

i don't want to derail the discussion but at least answer to this. i own several dcs modules and love flying them, but that will not help me in any way to decide if a new module (by a completely new development team) is worth buying. there is at least one module, that i would not have bought, if i could have tested a demo version of it first. nonetheless i have high hopes for polychop, especially because i want the bo-105 to be good... growing up in germany in the 80's the 105 was a common sight in the sky and always my favorite.
-
i was on the fence of buying the gazelle, but after reading this and several other threads and user-reviews i will wait and observe how this is gonna be handled and adressed by polychop. the model looks excellent, overall features, sound, texture, etc is all top notch, but the flight model is kinda the most important thing for a simulator and should always strife to be as realistic as possible (even if that means harder to control, more complicated, less powerful, not competitive in PvP environments, etc). i really wish there was some kind of demo mode available for DCS modules, something like the aircraft with only extreme low res or crazy colored textures, placeholder sounds, limited flight time, but full flight model, systems. try before buy style.

Caucasus Map Texture DLC by Starway
decipher replied to Starway's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
thanks for the infos, very helpful. digging around in my 1.5 installation, i guess this affects basically the "\Mods\terrains\CaucasusBase\vfstextures" folder? which is around 1.43GB, but with all the seasonal ground and buildings textures in ZIP archives. i guess we will be able to correctly compare it, once the package is released. just being curious about these kind of details. but at 10USD this is a very good offer either way. -
Caucasus Map Texture DLC by Starway
decipher replied to Starway's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
came here to ask the same thing, since the thread has already over 35 pages its hard to search for exact infos... it would be great to have a detailed comparison, not just the size of the download. data like: original texture file sizes and resolutions compared to the file sizes and resolutions of this DLC. the complete disk space fingerprint compared to the original size, predicted (or tested) effects on performance, etc. -
if this really is a sakae engine and LNS is doing a zero with sim/system depth/realism comparable to the mig-21 this will be an instant pre-order/buy/whatever for me. there really is no proper (modern) combat sim representation of the pacific theater of ww2; especially for the japanese side. i would really love to see a fully new modern sim-game focusing on the PTO, but DCS with a couple of PTO aircraft and some maps will be the next best thing. one can only hope! if the specific models are from the same (realistic) timeframe and both are simulated with all their proper strength and weaknesses, this will be a hell of an exciting match-up for good pilots, but might end up really being super frustrating in uneven skilled pilot match-ups, because these two types of aircraft are so different. until then i still have a heavily modded il-2 1946 specifically set up to fly my beloved A6M5 whenever i feel saburo calling me! :pilotfly:

as long as the changes reflect a realistic representation of the performance of the real missiles i am ok with this. i would be very upset if they would just update missiles to be better, to please customers though... an update doesn't always mean it must perform better, should always strife to perform more realistic.

if there is a drop in FPS after DCS got an update, then it is most probably a problem with the software and not the PC or settings. i saw you mention that they changed the default visibility settings (low, mid, high, ultra, extreme etc), which would of of course will have an effect on performance. [on a side note i think it was a bad idea to change these, because people will be angry if they used to play on "high" and now high gives worse frame rates, even if now "mid" will give the same results. this is a psychological thing. instead they should have just added a new setting and leave the old ones as they were.. something like "are you crazy?!" or "my PC costs more than your car" or "supermegaultraextremeultimatehigh!"] but i really don't see a point with people trying to tell other people "oh its your PC, lower your settings, etc etc" here, when it is clearly a software "problem". even though 1.5.3 now is a "non-beta" release, i think it is safe to say, with the crazy intense time-schedule ED set onto themselves and working on merging the two projects and getting the engine to run properly, it is more or less still buggy like a beta version and really needs a lot more optimization once it runs stable again. optimization for PERFORMANCE.

central position trimmer mode bug
decipher replied to decipher's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
i re-assigned shortcuts and re-set the options in both 1.5.2 and 2.0 and feel the behavior is slightly inconsistent, but hard to pinpoint. the central trimmer mode seems to work (if activated of course) most of the times, but occasionally small trimmer adjustments work like "central position trimmer" mode was de-activated (which is not). -
since 1.5.2 (not sure when it started exactly) the Central position trimmer mode seems to be buggy. when I use the trim button for the first time, it works as it is supposed to be, the controls freeze until I center my Warthog (and rudder - rudder trim activated). but after that the trim seems to revert itself to the non central position trimmer mode - it behaves like the option was not selected, re-trimming (moving stick to different position and pressing trim button again) will not freeze the controls until centered, but make the ingame controls jump to the "new" location, just like it does with "central position trimmer" option disabled (even tough it is enabled). i cross checked this with the ka-50, for which i also use the central position trimmer mode, and there it always works the same, trim -> controls freeze until centered. i don't have a track record yet, but if other people can recreate the same problem, or i am mistaken, i will update of course.
-
sorry to resurrect such an old thread, but i am having this issue right now on 1.5.2 and can't find a definite answer to this. in single player missions the ASO (as far as i can tell) always works like it should be, if you open the release button cover, you can drop flares/chaffs. in multi player missions this sometimes does not work at all, but i have yet to find a common cause. in most MP missions i joined the mig21 has to be loaded first (it loads cold/dark and without any weapons), so i thought maybe the problem is, if you load the ASO before the proper systems are started (easy communication - reload works without power) this may lead to a problem... but at the moment this is just guesswork and maybe it is not a general problem, if no one else is having this!

if you have not already done, you should definitely try the repair option of the updater. the easiest way is to navigate to the start menu for eagle dynamics -> DCS World 1.5 Openbeta -> repair DCS World Openbeta if that does not fix it, you can also try to install modules manually, there are helpful postings about this topic around here in the forum, but i don't have a direct link now.

DCS World 1.2 to 1.5 Now Available
decipher replied to SharpeXB's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
it is a slight annoyance that there is no definite answer to the original question, but i hope this will be clarified by ED when the info becomes available. we are talking about a big amount of data here and some people (not me personally) have internet transfer quotas, costs etc to overview. i finally caved and installed 2.0 early this week, and now have 1.2/1.5 and 2.0 installed with all my modules. it is important to notice, that while installing 1.5 the installer took a huge amount of data (around 17GB?) from the OLD installation of 1.2 (and the 2.0 installer took about the same amount from the 1.5 folder) BEFORE starting to download all the additional data it needed from the ED servers (or torrents). so it would be nice to know which of the folders (if any)- 1.2, 1.5 or 2.0 will be used as the base of the new upcoming stable branch, or specifically which version to keep as a "data cache" and which to REMOVE (to free up space on the SSD) before the new installation goes live.... -
27 November 2015 DCS Weekend Update
decipher replied to Call911's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
i own several modules, also pre-purchased the nevada map and looking forward to the future of DCSWorld, but with increasing prices and no more 60%+ sales i will probably spent much less money on DCSWorld. I understand that ED has to generate money to be able to continue working on old and new products and they do deliver quality work, no doubt about that, but for some customers that will probably lead to buying less... on 60%+ sales a customer is inclined to buy modules they would never buy at full price, thus actually ED would make MORE money on a highly discounted item that is actually bought, than on the full price one that is not bought.. but i don't know anything about finance/company management :) -
works the same way as in 1.2 for me, just a slightly different file path. this is on windows 7 pro 64. example file path for a windows user named decipher and the UH-1H module: "C:\Users\decipher\Saved Games\DCS.openbeta\KNEEBOARD\UH-1H" any picture in that folder will be available only in the kneeboard of the UH-1H. just create a folder for the module you want and add the kneeboard image files you like. works great! the specific module folder names need to match those you can find in the input folder (C:\Users\decipher\Saved Games\DCS.openbeta\Config\Input) hope that helps!

Operation "Blue Flag" - 24/7 PvP Campaign - ROUND 4
decipher replied to gregzagk's topic in Multiplayer
the new helicopter troop transport in the 1.5 version of blueflag is still pretty basic at the moment, but i guess it will be enhanced over time? i did a quick test with the huey. so there are just "troops" (i guess its an infantry squad), that you can pick up and drop anywhere (and pick up again if you can find them). but there is no request for evac mission (with troops dropping smoke), no different types of troops. i didn't have the time to fly to a different base yet, just dropped them 1km away from the FARP, which worked, they deployed, and when i landed near them again i was able to pick them up and return them to FARP. it does run smooth though and i am looking forward to updates in the future! -
