  1. Just reaching out to know whether anybody has ever experienced the same, tell me I'm not alone in this valley of tears.. Came back home, quick dinner and fired up my PC for an evening of training (lately I've been trying hard to reach some sort of proficiency with the Warthog), PC suddenly shut off right after windows login. Weird.. Brief overall check, nothing to note, and started it again. After a couple of seconds, crackling noise, visible smoke and small flames coming within the PSU (I could see it through the glass side of the case, thankfully it's not lying below the desk or hidden). I pulled out the power plug as fast as I could, flame stopped but smoke kept going for a few seconds more, with smell of electronic death expanding in the room. I am rather "surprised" about this, since it is, (it was, I should rather say) a Seasonic Prime 80 Platinum which costed half a kidney, goddamit! Seasonic offers 12y guarantee on this one, so I am not that worried, but a) I'll be out for at least ten days, methinks, and b) I am worried it may have fried other components.
  2. Indeed, I had to check the meaning of shill myself Well, would the good sir care to elaborate?
  3. On the two HP official stores I could buy from: - the german one has sold out, unknown new delivery times (no shit! The price for the consumer version was 499€ in here ) - the Italian indicates 3-4 weeks for the consumer version @599€ and 1-2 weeks for the Pro version @640€, but one cannot pre-order either https://store.hp.com/ItalyStore/Merch/Search.aspx?q=reverb
  4. Bad news is that the VII at factory settings runs unnecessarily hot (though no self-combustion-hot as the ti used to be :music_whistling: ); good news is that adjusting the voltage is extremely easy, so do not worry about that. If budget (and the idea of transferring >1k to nvidia) is not a problem, just go for the 2080ti, that's the unchallenged king of the mountain right now, especially at 4K.
  5. I have it, and still lacking the time for writing a proper review about it... Strangely, the VII does not seem to be popular around here, but I wouldn't really know why.. Here I've add the results of a benchmark track somebody else was using to compare different set ups (that track is now broken, after the last DCS update): https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=3922034&postcount=27 I also used my correct settings (it was asked to run the above benchmark at FullHd, I am now on UltraWide 3440x1440) for another quick test: https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=3919567&postcount=114 After a few days, I managed to find the sweetspot for voltage/fanspeed profile/clkspeed, I can run it at stock freq. (1800MHz) @1000mV and never exceed 85 deg at junction, 60 at core. The temperature reading is something you'll need to read about, many people are getting scared about these temps, not realizing that these are perfectly normal numbers, one may stay within 105-110 deg at junction and it will still be perfectly ok. If one is not bothered by the loud fans, and they can get really loud, I believe this card is a great deal, and a beast that needs some tinkering to get the best out of. First, I got it for 100€ less than the cheapest 2080: I see now the prices have risen for the VII and lowered for the 2080, so I am not sure about the price advantage. Still, costs at least 40% less than a 2080ti, and it is definitely NOT 40% slower. It has a lot of OC potential, I could get it to >2000Mhz stable, temps under control, fans spinning like hell though. Water cooling will be my next step (note however that this reduces the large price advantage it has with respect to the 2080ti). If you have anything specific you want me to test, I can do it. I will try to find the time for a proper review, but work keeps getting in the way.. Performance in DCS are great, but I cannot directly compare it myself to either the 2080 or the ti, I'll first need to find a track that has been used by others with these cards, for a useful comparison. Actually, if anybody here has similar specs to mine and a 2080/2080ti, we can set up a proper testbed and compare them once and for all on DCS. My specs: i7 8700k, stock, water cooled 32 GB DDR4-3200 Radeon VII DCS on a M2 NVME SSD 3440x1440 Reverb coming soon (or so I hope), so I cold also report on VR performance, in case
  6. I did the the same, expected delivery on 21th June, we'll see what kind of surprise we get. Best case scenario is the Consumer version, I'll happily settle for that
  7. Thanks mate In theory, as boedha68 says, one should be the consumer version, the other the Pro. BUT, go to the italian HP store, and you'll see the consumer version (if 2CZ77EA#ABB is indeed the consumer ver.) priced way higher than the German one, which is is weird. Also, the German one uses the pictures from the old WMR set, while the italian looks like the proper Reverb.. And on the italian both are present, with correct codes and pictures, with the Pro named "HP Reverb Virtual Reality Headset - Professional Edition" (6KP43EA#ABB) @640€, and the other named "HP Reverb VR 1000-200nn" ( 2CZ77EA#ABB) @599€. Anyway, I'll stop with the speculations, and wait for it to come and see what I got. Honestly, seeing the prices in the countries where it is available so far, 499 sounds too good to be true. Plus, on the german store the difference between the Pro and the 2CZ77EA#ABB is almost 200€, way too large :dontgetit:
  8. Guys, if you don't mind me asking, and you are located in EU, could you share your Reverb's Prod. Nr? I'm asking just out of curiosity (should either be 2CZ77EA#ABB or 6KP43EA#ABB)
  9. 1060 gone, monitor and X52 still available, get both 130€, gift included
  10. There we go, the Pro is now listed at 690€: https://store.hp.com/GermanyStore/Merch/Product.aspx?id=6KP43EA&opt=ABB&sel=ACC So, the 499€ unit must be the consumer variant, but the price difference is way too large. The part # (and name: VR1000-200) corresponds to the consumer Pro version on sale in Italy, but not to the Pro version for sale in UK, which has the same # as the now available Pro version in Germany.. I've got no idea what's going on
  11. thanks for the tip, I've already followed and ordered it. Expected delivery next week, so not only it is cheaper than in Italy, but it is also faster to get, it seems. I am really curious to see what's what now. I had signed for news about the Reverb on HP site, never got anything..
  12. Indeed very strange.. As Foxmike justly said and done already, we can order it and return it safely, should it be the wrong unit, albeit what else could that be..
  13. in which direction? The 499 price tag is wrong? If it is indeed the Reverb (and must be the Pro, seeing the number of cables in the pack), I'd pick it up immediately, error or not, they can't backtrack once paid :) EDIT: I checked, on both stores the Product # is 2CZ77EA#ABB... So price tag is strange, and I am about to hit the buy button :)
  14. Specs and ID seem to point to Reverb, but then why is it 100€ less than the Italian store, which by the way shows the classic Reverb pics? .. The mystery intensifies..
  15. It is available for pre-order in Italy: https://store.hp.com/ItalyStore/Merch/Offer.aspx?p=b-hp-reverb-vr-headset#pib1-t1 Delivery time is 3-4 weeks, according to them
  16. *bump^2 Last chance: 120€ for the 1060, 90€ for the monitor, 50€ for the X52, 240€ for everything.
  17. *bump Price reduction: 130€ for the 1060, 110€ for the monitor, 60€ for the X52. Gift still applies
  18. Got the exact same problem, resolved by opening the base, unplugging and re-plugging the x-axis connector, easy as that . Perhaps it comes loose with time due to the internal movements.
  19. Hi all, After a recent upgrade, I am selling three things: - EVGA GTX 1060 6Gb SSC (https://www.evga.com/products/specs/gpu.aspx?pn=e466f076-3e8f-4825-b4b0-f1863e893972), about one year and three months old, works perfectly. Asking 150€ - Asus VK278Q (https://www.asus.com/Monitors/VK278Q/): monitor 27" Full HD, 2ms, integrated speakers and webcam. Input: HDMI, D-Sub, DVI-D, DisplayPort. Five year and a half years old, works perfectly, no dead pixels. Asking 140€ - Saitek X52 Pro (https://www.saitek.com/uk/prod-bak/x52pro.html), seven years old, works great, little jitter at some positions on the slider operated by the thumb on the throttle side, often used for zooming, been like that since it was new (a known "feature" of this hotas:smilewink:). Asking 70€ for it. If you get the whole bunch, I'll throw a brand new (as in "absolutely never used, still with plastic adhesive protections") Thermaltake Macho RevA (http://www.thermalright.de/en/cooler/7/macho-rev.a-bw), a massive cooler I never used due to a double purchase. Pictures in here: https://photos.app.goo.gl/XPLQPAQ5oDnPGKRt9 I am located in Germany, I can send within EU.
  20. Hey philstyle, I have tried the server in the last couple of days; I really like it. You may have found another regular ;) PS. The AAA is ruthless! I was 'sniped' and shot dead while casually passing well above Isigny. On a different server I can strife more or less safely, here I need to pay a lot more attention. Frustrating, but I like the challenge
  21. DCS 2.5 open beta 2.5.4.30386 i7 8700k, stock, water cooled, boost @4.7GHz, actual clock ~4.6 GHz 32 GB DDR4-3200 Radeon VII, 1800MHz (stock) / 1123mV (stock) 2x M2 NVME SSD (Win10 on one, DCS on the other one) Monitor: LG 34GK950F, set at 1920x1080 in Windows DCS setting as required (HIGH, Vsync off) Radeon settings in attachment (no freesync or other AA settings). Start recording while doors open, stop recording a couple of seconds after crash and the view switches. Banded in ultrawide: 23-05-2019, 20:11:27 DCS.exe benchmark completed, 13856 frames rendered in 214.953 s Average framerate : 64.4 FPS Minimum framerate : 24.7 FPS Maximum framerate : 156.7 FPS 1% low framerate : 14.3 FPS 0.1% low framerate : 9.4 FPS Streched in ultrawide: 23-05-2019, 20:16:09 DCS.exe benchmark completed, 14469 frames rendered in 217.344 s Average framerate : 66.5 FPS Minimum framerate : 24.8 FPS Maximum framerate : 163.8 FPS 1% low framerate : 15.3 FPS 0.1% low framerate : 11.7 FPS - GPU utilization almost always at 100%, but strangely with good temperatures: junction below 80 deg all the time. For comparison, I record about 100 deg in MP.. Need to investigate this further. - I confirm that DCS needs restarting after modifying the settings, massive difference in average FPSs in certain combinations (up to a delta of 25!) I will report more on the Radeon VII on a separate thread.
  22. Sure, I'll run the second one, as I don't have the Tomcat. I'll post the results there and let you know here. EDIT: Done, reported there. Good overall results, GPU maximized almost all the time (drops in external views), temperatures strangely low, CPU never maximized (yes, I am overlaying utilization of all cores, not one is ever above 90%). This is baffling, when compared to what others are reporting. I've run a few more tests on native resolution with own settings, I'll try to assemble the results in a separate thread. Spoiler: 23-05-2019, 00:59:35 DCS.exe benchmark completed, 15289 frames rendered in 212.656 s Average framerate : 71.8 FPS Minimum framerate : 23.9 FPS Maximum framerate : 143.6 FPS 1% low framerate : 14.7 FPS 0.1% low framerate : 11.6 FPS (Starting from HIGH preset, applying these modifications: Vsync on, clutter/grass down to 0, No Anisotropic filt., Shadows Flat, No MSAA, No SSAA, Visibility range to extreme, firt+flare ON) Radeon settings: VSync enhanced; MSAA and Anisotropic filtering maximized at 8xEQ and 16x, respectively. Resolution at 3440x1440. Pretty, pretty nice visually, and mostly >60 fps on ground (granted, no grass/clutter).
  23. Radeon VII + Ultrawide Hi Bit, I finally upgraded both GPU (from 1060 6Gb to a Sapphire Radeon VII) and monitor (from 27'' HD 60Hz to a 34'', 144Hz, 3440x1440 beast, the LG 34GK950F). You may remember helping me selecting components for my rig last year. I am still playing around with all the GPU/Monitor settings, but the improvement in fps and smoothness out of the box is very, very large. First things first: with all settings high, 2x MSAA, no anis. filtering, FreeSync active, etc.. I will take a screenshot when back home) coupled with the GPU stock boost freq. (1800MHz) and a little undervolting (for now at 1050mV down from 1123mV, still stable, will push further in the next days) I can firmly stay in the 60-80fps range, with GPU core temp below 60deg and junction temp always below 100deg. I was seeing 112deg with stock settings.... No stuttering whatsoever, some drops to 45-50fps when taxiing. I've narrowed this down to grass/clutter density (could verify a linear correlation), and I've now set it to 750 to avoid dropping further. When the GPU junction temp raises, so does the fan noise. I understand that the fan RPMs are coupled to the junction temp now, not the core. I do not mind it, since I use earphones in DCS, but I could still hear the blowing ! It is not a whistle, but a low-pitch noise similar to the one of a room ventilator spinning at high speed. It does not bother me, but this is subjective. There are already some mods around for improving the dissipation with the stock fans, but I know I will water-cool it soon, just to be able to play with OCs settings with safer margins. If you guys want some more details/tests, just let me know and I will run them for you. My specs are as follows i7 8700k (water-cooled, 4.7GHz, not OC) 32Gb RAM @3200MHz Sapphire Radeon VII (could try different max Freq./Voltage) Ultrawide 3440x1440 @120Hz (could go at 144Hz, I do not see the benefit in DCS though) Modules: A10, F18, P51, Spitfire; all maps.
  24. LG 34GK950F I recently got hold of the curved ultrawide LG 34GK950F: https://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/lg_34gk950f.htm 3440x1440, native 144Hz, FreeSync 2, also work with Nvidia Gsync (so I am not bound to AMD in future upgrades, just in case. Not that I will ever consider switching back for the foreseeable future, after their recent exploits....) --> ticked all the boxes for me. I've paired it to a Radeon VII, and I am rather satisfied with the improvement in DCS with respect to my old combo ASUS VK278Q (1920x1080 60Hz) - EVGA GTX 1060 6Gb. Contrary to what I often read in here (lower res for better spotting), I am no longer blind to enemy aircraft: spotting and tracking the enemy during maneuvers are both so much easier now. I have been toying with the Radeon settings (undervolting/OC'ing), and I can get it stable above 55fps (all settings high, 2x MSAA), mostly in the region 60-80 while flying in MP (both Normandy and Caucasus), with the occasional dip in the 40's on ground mainly due to grass/clutter, but largely mitigated by the FreeSync (never experienced that before, what a bless!). The improvement in immersion and image quality is very significant, given the monitor I was holding to, and I can warmly recommend the LG. It ain't cheap in EU, but Amazon.it still has it on offer for <1k€.
  25. I have a Wheelstand Super Warthog (pro; ), which is specifically designed for the TM's Warthog HOTAS. I wanted to place my VKB stick on it, but I did not want to make any extra holes on the plates. Also, these are rather large, and mounting the VKB stick + extension on them would mean having a rather large plate between the legs. I then quickly designed an adapter that would allow me inserting the stick directly on one of the 'arms' of the wheel stand. A friend 3D-printed it (on a Prusa i3) and the result is rather satisfactory. The first "prototype" was not good: I did not consider tension on the edges, and the adapter broke after 30 seconds of use. I have re-designed it with a much ticker base and adding smooth chamfers and structures to reinforce the points subject to larger solicitations (I apologize for the terminology, I am not a mechanical engineer :smilewink:). Note that the print may deform due to the heat developed, and the "base" may came out slightly curved. I fixed mine with some sanding. Perhaps some of you are interested to have such an adapter: I have enclosed the CAD files (Inventor, autocad, catia, obj, stl and stp files + renderings + picture of the result) in the attached zipped folder. There are two sets of CAD files, with a 61mm- and a 120mm-long cylindrical extrusion. I use VKB's extension, and the 61mm version place it right where it should be, with 2-2.5 cm adjustment still allowed. Adapter_VKB_WheelStand_WSPro.zip
