I have read a lot of pilot autobiographies and stories from air combat. I also have seen Bud Anderson talk at EAA for several years as well. Sustained dog fighting is somewhat rare, usually the pilot that gets shot down doesn't even see the person who did it. In sustained fights it isn't uncommon for the fight to be dragged down to lower altitudes.. EAA is this coming week in Oshkosh,WI, I need to think of a good question for Bud Anderson if he is there this year.

Honestly you are right about skipping the 970, I plan on using evgas step up program to get a 980 Ti 6gb card.

The 970 has been a great upgrade for me, coming from a GTX 760. There are a few setting tweaks that I would recommend testing, such as turning down AA to 8x or lower,turning down shadow quality, reducing civ traffic and the "every frame" setting for cockpit displays. I plan on upgrading to 6gb card myself, the only performance issues I encounter are slow downs usually caused by a lot of units on screen at once. Tweaking is necessary to achieve the optimal performance/quality you are used to. Sometimes however performance is compromised another factor, I hope you are able get it pinned down. Like everyone says, DCS 2.0 is around the corner.

I am somewhat new to DCS but not pc simming; games like Il-2 Sturmovick 1946,Falcon 4 BMS,etc are my favs. One thing I noticed vs IL2,F4 BMS is that AAA is fairly limited in variety. Low altitude small caliber cannons is pretty much it. I know this is probably due to the fact SAMs are way more effective and modeled. I would like to see added to DCS, a more multi layered AAA threat. At least some radar guided 85/100mms? Anyone else thinking along these lines?

Hey, Thanks for this warning. I run Win7 pro x64 and I checked my cpu usage at idle, it was almost 50% until deleting those updates.

I second the recommendation for a good SSD. I got my 500gb Samsung 850 EVO for $177 shipped on amazon.

Benq 27" 2560x1440 Its true once you have gone beyond 1080, you never can go back,only higher. **EDIT**Same goes for size, bigger is better. Couldn't go back to something smaller now. ;)

GTX 970 at the moment looking to upgrading to the GTX 980Ti 6gb.

I swear by Logitech accessories, had a MX518 for several years, wore out the left click after too much gaming :P Upgraded to the newer series the Logitech G402 Hyperion which goes for $33 USD on amazon. Excellent.

Maybe on the pricey side, I just purchased a Benq XL2730Z for $600. So far I love it, I recommend it or any thing that is at least 27'' and 1440p or higher. You will NOT regret it.

Very nice build/upgrade. I recently purchased a 1440p Benq 27" 1ms 144Hz LCD monitor. My previous monitor was a Acer 23" 3ms 60hz LCD. It is a thing of beauty! I highly recommend looking into upgrading your monitor next to take true advantage of your new hardware. I actually can dogfight better because of the higher resolution. I can see much more,improving my SA.

I ordered a Samsung EVO 850 SSD and installed it today, I love it. The installation was a breeze, well worth $177 for the 500gb model.

mytai01, what kind of graphics card/setup do you run? I also notice a similar "micro stutter" but I always kind of figured it was a FPS issue/ not hard disk related. I just ordered a GTX 970 to replace my 760 but I REALLY want to upgrade my WD Raptor to a SSD. How much gain, in game performance, would you say you gained? Not just in load times.

Heh I was court martialed from a campaign mishap. I did not even know that was possible until it happened..I was taking off from a airbase for a escort mission and made a wrong turn during my climb out/transition, I saw my wing man flying directly at my 12 o'clock assumed he was flying the correct way. I noticed the anti collision lights were backwards too late... BANG. Dead. Anyways my wingman survived and ejected, I was court martialed in death.

I love the fact DCS is 64 bit only,more games will follow someday..
