  1. I agree Metzger, the VIVE for me was well worth the money when compared to many other things people hapily shell out for. I'm betting though in a few years thanks to all these cheap attempts now, VR techonolgy will be very cheap and all this exclusivity will go out the window. Not sure VR is a market Oculus can tame in a way they seem to think they can because VIVE and steam will keep the marketplace open and so all these cheap headsets will be usable. I think Oculus are short sighted as so long as steam exists when these cheaper headsets from China and other places actually start getting better (and they will) nobodies going to want to lock themselves into the occulus platform when to do so would mean paying much higher prices for a headset. I wonder if VIVE even care about headsets in the long term, they must have realized that sooner or later HMD are going to be very cheap and everywhere, and where then will people go? To steam where everyone is welcome or Oculus where the price of admission is a diffrent headset. Only choice Occulus will have is to drop prices. Even though right now the market is pretty equal in the end -and pretty soon I think- Oculus will have to go up against steam and all these cheaper HMD's that can be used on the open platform steam will provide. VIVE wins because VIVE is steam. Cant help wondering what it is Oculus want from the VR market. I guess they will eventually go into a very exlusive social media side of things cause I cant really see them competing with steam for games and that particular side of the VR market.
  2. Haha well I tried in the post above so not sure if I can! I've honestly got it running very well but hard to say if what I think is great will satisfy you too. It's certainly not a shimmering mess and looks great to my eyes except maybe a bit jaggy close to the ground. But only a bit, like I said above if one is the type to be OCD about graphics and FPS then what I think is great might not be for other people. But who knows maybe you haven't configured it right. Can you post a screen shot of your settings? Way up high I think it looks great, you may get a bit of ghosting sometimes when one looks sideways and the clouds can be buggy. I am also someone who can't stand shimmering in VR but MSSA AF and a pixel density of 1.3 for me has made it very smothe. I haven't even checked my fps, all I know is I'm never bothered by it. What version of the game are you running?
  3. Are you using the enable mouse option or have you mapped the mouse to a Hotas button? If you are using the HOTAS to click your cockpit, do not when in game resume using the mouse as this stops the HOTAS from functioning. Try enabling 'use mouse' option in settings. Not sure if its the same thing but it was a problem I was having until I realized that in VR now you are supposed to map the click button to a HOTAS key which is indeed much better than using a mouse.
  4. Yup welcome to VR! I'd like to say you have many hours of flying ahead of you, but while this is true, equally you will also have many hours, indeed days and weeks, of often frustrating tinkering ahead of you! I just sepnt half an hour mapping the mouse buttons to my HOTAS! I've been tinkering with it all week (I have a VIVE though) but now have to say have got it running pretty damned great and I am in love with it, in a way I never was before. We VIVE owners have had a rougher time of it than you rifters too. One thing, dont put pixel density too high. I've got mine on 1.3 but this enabled me to jack up the MSSA (4x) and A filtering (4X), with high terrain and textures, among other things and its looking alot better now for me and more importanltly performing better too. I also followed the directions of this thread- https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=172537 The thing is though some people might have standards that are just too high for the present standard of VR tech. Some people are maybe not going to be satisfied with this genration of headsets simply because they are junkies for graphical perfection. The kind of people who demand at all times 60 FPS (or better) or GTFO are probably going to be dissapointed when they come up aginst the resoloution issues, occasional ghosting, or just the very idea that they have to turn graphics settings down. Not saying you are one of these people just that make sure your standards are not too high. I get a bit of shimmering down in airports, and as for the clouds I tell myself I ate some LSD before take off! I've seen some say they went back to playing on monitors because they wanted to play with high graphics again. Personally I could never do it, when the VIVE was having its DCS problems a few months back rather than going back to track IR I simply quit playing! For me high graphical perfection is irrelevent because monitor flying now for me, is more like manipulating a pretty picture, whereas VR feels like actually flying and being present in the aircraft. EVen though in some ways it doesent look as good I still argue equally in another hard to put into words way it looks 100 times better. I'm dying for BOS to get VR support so I can start playing it again! Its hard to tell how high your standards are without being able to see exactly how it is performing on your rig。Post your settings if you like. One thing to be aware of is the in game DCS VR automatic settings that you can choose in the options screen looks terrible a horrible shimmery mess. Follow that thread I gave you and if you still aint satisfied after that then try lowering your standards! I disagree about 2.0 performing better than 1.5.5 though. I mean in some ways it is, but its much less stable for me. Mig 21 is unplayble (endless flashes) and I am still getting the occasional flash in and out from the game and the steam background even on playable aircrafts. This has nothing to do with my rig, its the same thing happening with 1.5.6 though nowhere near as bad just a symptom of alpha I suppose...
  5. Sorry dude just realized you were talking about 1.5.6. Didn't even know there was an update till about a day ago when it downloaded. It ruined my fps too so Ibwent back to 1.5.5
  6. I find a helicopters and the A10C although probably have the same performance the former seem to perform better simply due to the nature of flying those modules. I find you get less ghosting because you dont need to perform such agile acrobatics. The only time I notice ghosting is when I look off to the side and watch other planes or buildings fly by me. Could you tell me what aspect ratio you find to be best? I just changed mine to 4.3 and that seems to be better than whatever the hell the game had it set to before...
  7. Hey guys Which modules have the best performance in VR fps wise? Think in future it will be wise to take VR performance into my considerations. I have been mulling getting an old school world war 2 fighter but hesitate because there isnt really an appropriate setting for them just yet. Imagine the D-day maps are a long way off too. Reguardless I would imagine these planes without all the modern weapon systems will perform very well in VR? Anyone also tell me how the Huey performs too. It looks like a fantastic moudle. Many thanks in advance!
  8. Did you use a driver uninstaller and make sure it was a clean delete and reinstallation (using safe mode) ?
  9. Are there any mods to improve FPS. Didnt I hear there was a mod that could remove tree shadows and achieve a higher FPS. But I think someone said not to use it with 1.55?
  10. Yes it does seem to be something new even when FPS rates where bad I never used to get these flashes I still get them very occasionally with DCS 2 (though hardely ever with 1.5.5) does seem to be performace related but like I said this never used to happen at all.
  11. Yeah I opted out of beta and problem solved. Phew I really did start to think God what now! If I spent as much time in VR DCS as I do messing about trying to get it working properly I'd be an ace by now! Still its worth it. The Mig 21 in VR is incredible! While I got you guys. When I lock onto a target with the radar, is there some other requirement that I must meet before firing the missile? Is it a certain range I have to be within or do I need to be facing my crosshairs towards the target? It seems that I can get one off after a long wait but then I'm not sure why exactly it fired when it did and I wasnt able to repeat it!
  12. No guys DCS 2 has no problems whatsoever! DCS 1.5.6 is unplayable at the moment for me in VR hopefully if I opt out of beta I can get back to learning my mig 21. Very frustrating!
  13. DCS 1.5.6 Guys everything was great but then there was an update, now no matter what I'm flying (I even put pixel density to 1) I am getting massive fps drops again whereby the game will flash me out and back in again so I can momentarily see the steam VR background. I was having this about a week ago but solved it with a driver update but what could be going on now? Anyone else having problems or know a solution. These are not just flashes either but more like masssive loading sequences! Will try to restart and verify game cache but otherwise I aint got alot of ideas. The loading times have also become much longer almost as if it crashes. I'll try DCS 2 to check its not my computer.
  14. Thanks dude will give it a shot, worse troubles now though will open a new thread for this one though!
  15. hum mines on 1! Its only really too bright on the warthog instant action mission where Im guessing its just too sunny!
  16. Is there anyway to change the brightness in DCS 1.5? I did so by putting the VIVE in extended mode and changing it in the nvidia control pannel but didnt seem to get it right and I worry if I put it right down I will always have to change it for other games! Is there any way to change it? Many thanks?
  17. 1.7 might be a bit high. I have GTX 980Ti (same CPU as yourself) and bring SS down to 1 with MSSA on 4X textures on medium and terrain on high with pretty much everything else off. This seems to work best for me. But also defo delete and update old nvidia graphics drivers I was (use display driver uninstaller) having all kinds of problems until I did that.
  18. I was having terrible trouble the game was unplayable probably like you said 30-40 just unplayable anyway lots of flashes out of the game and back in again. Turned out I needeed to do a fresh delete and reinstallation of my nvidia drivers. Now everything is running great!
  19. lol reproduction I had the feeling when I was writing that, that it didnt seem right but I couldnt think what the correct alternative was!
  20. Ok guys updated it but wasn't able to work out how to change the title of the thread itself! Anyone know if DcS is working so much better now solely because of the asynchronous reproduction, or have the Devs themselves just better optimized the game?
  21. Not really for me when settings were on relatively low with MSSA set to 4x/2x terrain high and textures medium or high, pixel density on 1, it still looks good enough for me and even when it used to be unplayable always ran smoothly except for when bombings were happening. Now even on the mission 'battle' these bombings that used to wreck everything dont seem to bother me, and head tracking remains fluid. Its exciting to think that the Vive and DCS really is improving and hopefully it will only continue to get better its all in alpha really and though its lagging behind the Rift as its basically the same tech I think its a sure thing were gonna catch up. Gonna try 2.0 now! The main thing I hate is shimmering so MSSA is one of the most important things for me but I turn of A filtering as that doesent really look good in VR anyway. I'm very happy with it because it was really the judder-fest bombings that were ruining the experience for me but now they are gone I am so excited to finally be able to play this game and not simply a few missions here and there. Things can only get better too!
  22. Very happy to report that the game is now very much playable. Even missions like battle no longer have the awful juddering slow downs when bombings commence. Now I'm really going to get into this game. Looking forward to BOS too!
  23. I just tried pixel density upgrade and have to say I cant see how the rift could be much better than what the VIVE has now as I was very impressed by how much better it looks now. Compared to before a very very pleasing effect. Really makes me hopeful that this is only the beggining for DCS and our generation 1 headsets as things are improving.... I took off from the airport in DCS 2 and it was fricking beautiful and to be honest in comparison to a few weeks ago... well there is no comparison! I think the VIVE now must surely have caught up with the Rift resoloution wise as if it got much better now it would be a different game! I dont know if I am just crazy but there also seems to be a better performance now and although carpet bombing judders are still there they seem easier to ignore? Maybe I'm just imagining that though! Anyone notice better performance? Did I maybe miss a patch?
  24. Shall we add you to the list of people who 'could never go back now' then?
  25. Been giving some thought to these problems we have with VR and poor framerates when there is too much enemy activity (Ai bombings especially). Anyone know if its possible that the community will start making VR specific missions that are still great fun and challenging but will not include any FPS killers such as area bombings? Or maybe the devs themselves plan to make some missions specifically for VR without these things? I am guessing that this generation of VR will not be able to handle certain missions and think that the way round it is just to play missions that dont have so much going on but that are still challenging missions. For now anyone point me to some missions that run fine on the Ka-50 black shark? As an example I would advise people to play the 'insurgents' mission (KA-50) in 'instant action' as apart for a few area bombings its the best mission I have played in VR so far. I think all of the instant action missions for the warthog should work too. The main missions are too distacting though I havent tried them all yet obviously. Anyone know which ones are OK? Sadly I will not have any personally created missions to contribute myself and am hoping that other people will make the missions for me to DL and then I can play them! :) You could though set up donations and if the missions are deserving I am sure you will be rewarded. VR community give me 5 good missions as good as the insurgent one in instant action and I'd happily pay. Of course I am totally ignorant to how difficult and time consuming such an endeavor would be, but am only asking! Better still maybe the devs could release VR specific DLC content? I know they have alot on their plate but I myself would happily snap it up! Surely cant ignore a market like that! The thing is I ended up avoiding the new Warthog mission simply because I suspect it would be a bombed out judder-fest in VR and honestly I have no desire to go back and use a monitor with track IR. Ridiculously I think I'd rather not play DCS now than have to play it as I used to it just feels to distant. I felt the same way about playing flight sims without track IR after I first tried that. Anyhoo I know a post telling people to make content for a game so I can play it while contributing nothing myself might not be well recieved but I did contribute this lovely post! ;)
