Love the Black shark but is it worth getting the Gazzel?
Wolf8312 replied to Wolf8312's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Think after reading all of your comments when I can afford it or the next sale hits I will go for both the Gazzel and the Huey! Though I do worry that the FM is not finished... -
Love the Black shark but is it worth getting the Gazzel?
Wolf8312 replied to Wolf8312's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Lol thanks guys I should maybe define what I mean a little better. I love the Blackshark I love how versitile it is, I love that it has guided and non guided missiles and I love using both types as much as the other, I love how well it handles when you get used to it, how it feels and I love the the onboard systems. I just love it, and I think I prefer helicopters to planes or jets although if you gave me a choice in real life I'd take a plane every time as in them I have died a thousand deaths! I was flying around the other day doing taget practice in VR and it was the first time I really realized how amazingly acrobatic and agile the BS can be, I started to fall in love with flying it danerously low and close to the ground, using the cannon and unguided missiles to take out soft targets it just felt godly- until that nasty crash of course in which I tragically perished! I realized I was wrong to jump into missions when I should have just been practicing flying and shooting. That said in mission cant really fly like that and its best to be a distant sniper, so I got to wondering if there was a faster more 'on the sharp end' helicopter module. That brought me to the Gaz because the others seemed more liek transport choppers. I just have the feeling that more so than plane to plane helicopters all feel and fly the same, and with less systems and weapons there would be no sense buying a new helicopter module. I dont know why I think this, I think its because the avaliable modules all seem kinda similar to the shark when reading the store page. But mainly its like I said the BS just seems to have everything they have and more. It has almost everything I could possibly want in a helicopter so I kind of worry that if I bought the Gazzel or the Huey would I never get round to using them. I think its a very hard question for you guys to answer as it probably comes down alot to how it, and I, feel when flying and is very subjective and difficult to put into words. I liked the idea of a smaller faster attack oriented chopper that employs hit and run tactics but get the feeling I may have misled myself there! Dont think I will get it if its in beta, because I kind of promised myself I would never buy another alpha or beta game as the waiting gets too frustrating and devs tend to abbandon the projects. I think one day when theres a sale I'm just going to go ahead and buy every module there is! To be honest though I dont even need a new module! Havent anywhere nearly mastered the Shark, mig 21 or A10C. How about the Huey then guys? -
Been considering getting voice attack, can I ask does it have any effect on perfomance?

Yeah but my guess is that it will probably be 'sort of working' from here on out. You gotta ask yourself after all this time and development why is it that its still having problems, and patches that are intended as fixes make things even worse, when VIVE tracking worked flawlessly on day one? There must be a problem with that method of tracking. Many people who warned that there would be tracking problems -who were dismissed as fanboys- told me when I was deciding myself that VIVE themselves discarded the constellation tracking method that Oculus is using beacause it didnt work properly for roomscale. You gotta rememeber that Oculus never really wanted to get into roomscale and have been very coy on the subject from the start. They didnt release touch/room scale as an alpha or beta but called it 'experimental' instead which should be a pretty big red flad. I think they know and knew from day one that roomscale would have problems. I cant say for certain and neither can anyone really but my hunch is that this generation of rift will always have problems for room scale, and if I was the OP I'd go with a VIVE unless of course he is adament that cockpit games are all he is interested in. Just my 2 cents though not like I really know what I am talking about on a technological level!
-
I think it's a patience thing because the tech is exactly the same for both headsets apart form the tracking systems, and while the VIVE is marginally behind the curve now its not going to be for long and is already almost as good, and to all intents and purposes is as good already as the rift. DCS especially on 2.04 and 1.5.5 is very smooth for me now. However the 360 roomscale tracking on the VIVE is flawless and if reddit complaints are anything to go by the rift and constellation tracking has problems. You might think of yourself as only a cockpit gamer but if you've ever tried A chair in the room, the lab, (robot repair will leave you astounded by the potential) or other room scale experiences you will know that even more so than games like DCS the sense of presence is incredible, A chair in the room for example made me feel like I was genuinely in a horror movie! It turned my blood cold! And remember these games are just crappy first efforts made by indie developers, when the VR train really gets moving do you really want to lock yourself into a device that has roomscale tracking problems? I guarantee in the end the VIVE will be every bit as good as the rift is for games like DCS but cant say that about the rift in relation to roomscale. The VIVE apparently will be going wireless soon and releasing more gadgets while the rift seems to be scrambling around just to get up to speed with the VIVE and its tracking which apparently it probably never will do so as the constellation method is flawed. I mean after all this time in development they still havent got the tracking right yet still sold all the sensors knowing full (how could they not have known?) that it didnt work properly? If you buy such an expensive headset why lock yourself into just cockpit games and even if you are adament there will surely be other people in your family who will enjoy 360 roomscale. Might sound like a fanboy but I aint here to fanboy one monitor over another I'm just telling you why I myself went for the VIVE over the RIFT and I really do think my reasons were based only on logic.

I noticed too the clouds were improved

Yes but in 2.04 DCS does indeed report a solid 45-90 fps, and 1.5.5 and 6 do not. I think when DCS is working as it should it should be reporting 45-90 though don't quote me on that. Also for simple peace of mind and to know reprojection is actually working and it's nice to see the 45-90 fps! With 1.5.6 for me at least I'm really not sure it was hitting the required target.

Rolling back to 1.5.5 with DCS updater utility
Wolf8312 replied to Wolf8312's topic in Virtual Reality
It's great yes! I have found the advantages of using steam are in this case outweighed by the benefits of downloading from the main site at least at the moment and especially for VR. The new release version has some great VR improvements but was definitely not performing as well as the 1.5.5 though it was still quite playable and I'd of bit your hand off for that level of stability a few months back (VIVE!). -
No as much as I'd like to blame it on a bug I think the bombing itself is OK but something wrong with the tracks! Edit- yeah Razo just realized! totally bugged so much for that plan!
-
Guys something really weird is happening. I will perform the bombing run and lately I've just been bombing fields to test and try it out, then I will watch my own track for reference and understand better where I am going wrong. The results seem to suggest that the game itself is going wrong! The track I watch shows the bombing occuring in a place I was nowhere near, and this isnt just because I am getting confused, I brought the plane very close down to the ground just to test it, but the video shows me bombing something far further to the right where I was nowhere near! Has anyone else ever encountered such a thing. I'm flying in VR so am not sure if that could have something to do with it, but this might go some way to explaining why I cant even seem to drop the bombs anywhere close to my targets some sort of crazy bug?

Rolling back to 1.5.5 with DCS updater utility
Wolf8312 replied to Wolf8312's topic in Virtual Reality
Yes and yes wolf! Update was a success and yes much better performance for me! -
Is the Beta version I should use to do this 1.5.5.60565 (open beta)? Should I be using the 'advanced update options panel to do this'?
-
I have confidence it will because in some versions its not there or barely ever there at all. The 2.04 version of the game is incredibly smooth in VR and flying around vegas in a black shark swinging up and down and swooshing past sky scrapers in a reckless (very often kill myself) and highly dangerous manner makes actually just flying these beasts incredibly more fun than it ever used to be, but in VR its just... <insert gushing adjective>... The day the full update is eventually released and stabalized is going to be a happy one for me! I've just moved over from the steam version of the game back to the normal one so I can roll back to 1.55 if need be. Its also just better in the end as there are so many more modules to choose from on the non steam version though the downloads are painfully slow where I live.
-
Steam VR has a little green bar which measures your frame rate and lets you know if you are missing frames or not and staying within the required 45-90 fps, if not it will show you by giving 'missed frames' warnings which are represented by red flashing lines. The 1.5 1.5.6 versions of the game however are reporting frame rates of often way below 45 fps even though steam VR is not reporting any missed frame warnings. 2.04 is hitting the target 45-90 both in game and in steam. 1.5 was not and 1.56 is not hitting the required fps though both seem to be doing so based on performance and steam VR readings.

Since update DCS seems to be having massive FPS drops!
Wolf8312 replied to Wolf8312's topic in Virtual Reality
Can you explain how to do that? Compare 1.5.6 to 2.04 is like night and day and really shows me how poorly 1.5.6 is performing. In the weather tab in mission editor cant find anything about clear skies. -
Interesting so you would advise I go for it? That is the one I had my eye on. How much did the 7700 run you? I can get em for around 200 English pounds but I would expect a significant performance increase for that and can't help thinking that something like DCS especially giving that I am certain it will undergo a lot of tweaking and optimization probably will in the end not see that much gains from it. One things for sure with the advent of VR my next PC will be a 'twice as expensive than my last one' monster, but I think I'll wait for the GPU that comes after the 1080 Ti. I don't regret getting VR but I do think it's wise to wait for the next gen headsets and GPU's if you can control yourself. I mean I'm glad to be one of the first adopters but it's just running slightly and tantalizingly behind the present day tech at the moment. Don't think an i7-700 is likely to remedy that but I do get the feeling my CPU could be better. Anyone else made the jump from my own CPU to the i7-770?
-
lol I know what you mean I really don't want to turn into one of those guys who can't sleep at night because is fps isn't where he thinks it should be!
-
Yeah you're right guys, my GPU is fine (980Ti) and when it's time to upgrade that it will be time for a new computer. It's impatience really as although performance with DCS is better than it's ever been you get the feeling that it's only some optimization away from being perfect. I'm not really one who worries about the resolution. For me it's great except for the slight ghosting effects when you turn your head, and of course those annoying grey flashes I mention on an hourly basis but I'm almost certain that these things can and will be fixed as these problems vary in severity from beta to beta... just gotta wait it out!
-
I have an i7-4770 CPU and I'm just wondering if it makes sense to upgrade now for games like DCS and if so which CPU would you recommend getting? Some people have told me its a waste of time as theres nothing really out there CPU wise but that sounds rather hard to beleive, what do you think?
-
by the way thanks for the help everyone!
-
Yeah the thing is I rememeber back when we didnt have the steam update it was always showing a consistent 45-90 except whent their were bombings when it would go nuts. Glad you chipped in because I think I rememebr seeing you post something similar but wasnt sure if it was just wishful thinking on my part. Dont think I'm gonna worry myself now lol! I was just worried maybe that even though it seems to be better than its ever been maybe for others it was maybe even better! Best thing to go by right now is the steam VR missed frames counter I think. What graphics card are you on dude? Myself 980 TI

Does it work with the steam version I cant see to get it to work or detect DCS. I copied the DCS updater into the main DCS folder can load it up and all but when I click on things nothing seems to happen!
