For me it really runs near perfectly on some missions and is unplayable on others. The thing is after trying VR I honestly cant go back and so will limit my play to missions and maps that do work. I didnt just buy the VIVE for DCS though and to be honest I only used to play on some of the simple instant action missions which should be enough. Of course now I know I cant play the bigger missions I want to, and some of them look fricking awesome especially in VR. You could try buying a Rift as per the recommendation of others. Is there any word when these problems might be fixed? Could be years right?
-
Maybe should give MP a try. Must say didnt notice any problem when I tried it with 14 people playing but never met all these people at once. Randomly generated missions had big problems though. Have you tried playing the missions such as the KA-50 'battle' mision?
-
Actually the VIVE is running as smoothe as in the 2D game until it comes to some heavy AI intensive moment, area bombing etc, at which point I've been told by Rift owners that it drops down to 10 FPS too. To splash out another 600 quid and have the same problem would be insane even if it was smoother at other times, though I dont really see how could be. It might indeed be a bit better optimized on the rift at this point, but I think you can see as both headsets are virtually indentical and with VIVE optimizations likely to come buying a whole new headset might not be the wisest thing to do with my money!

People with Rifts are reporting the same problems dude...

How much better is Rift than Vive for DCS World?
Wolf8312 replied to captainkoloth's topic in Virtual Reality
Andrew. You mentioned you take hits on area bombings as I do (10FPS). I was wondering do you just avoid missions with lots of such activity (Ka-50 battle, etc) and if so what do you focus on instead when playing DCS? It seems that certain parts of the game are off limits no matter what rig one has right? I was just wondering how to play to get the best out of it.... -
So is there no hope? I suppose the best way to play it then would be to make my own missions with only a few sam sites here and there to destroy. Is anyone opening VR servers where anything performance decreasing is not allowed (bombers)? I swear one bomber is worse than a whole city at the moment! How is multiplayer? I guess if there are only a few people playing then it ought to be fine and maybe I should look into that? I guess my question is how are those who are enjoying the game playing it? Where or on what levels do you play?

VIVE unplayble GTX980Ti /i7-4770K 3.50GHZ Honestly in its present state DCS may work to fly around in on the VIVE, and it can handle a few enemies here and there but when I go to play the missions where alot is happening the game starts juddering badly. As an example with everything on low a black shark 2 mission such as 'insurgents' will work with very little problems except for judder when the Ai is area bombing however in one of the main missions 'battle' the game is unplayable. Obviously this is relative with some missions being better and some worse but I just dont wish the game to be limited like this. It just cant seem to handle excessive enemy activity. Damned shame because in VR this is probably THE best game out there but not really as a combat simulator as in VR a good proportion of the game is now shut down and off limits! I've heard that it runs much better on the Rift can anyone confirm this and would DCS really work well on a KA-50 mission (endless bombings) such as battle? Is this a VIVE problem only or will it be just as bad on the Rift? Does anyone know if these problems are going to get fixed? Right now it works as a flight simulator but not a combat simulator. Damned shame, cant go back to 2D and although I could just play certain missions that dont make the VIVE judder this would mean I cant go deeper into the game. Is this the same for everyone or is it maybe a problem on my end that I could mayber fix? Graphics are on very low running on the SSD.

Thanks but in the same setup screen I couldnt find the uncheck Vsync option you're talking about DCS 2.0 right?
-
Yeah I just tried it on a mission for the KA-50 called ‘battle' and it was utterly unplayable due to constant area bombings. This is a real shame as its probably THE best VR experience one can get right now when it works well.
-
I tried changing the Vsync file but changed it back as it didnt do anything. To be honest DCS 2.0 runs OK for me I'm more concerned with the AI area bombing judder in the beta! Think I'm just gonna be patient and wait for the devs to bring out optimizations as its very playable already!
-
Sorry excuse my ignorance how do I change it from a stereo monitor setup? As for the V sync.. should I just edit the options document to "Sync" = false ? I mean any problems with later updates I could just change it back again right? Many thanks!

That was for the installation file 'open alpha'

+1 for the fix! Gotta be a better way!

Yeah have the same problem and also am very confused by what we are being told we have to do and cant find any of the files except the one we are told NOT to edit. Anyone care to give a clear and dumbed down explanation! I kind of worry about going through files and editing them.

On my GTX 980Ti DCS runs very well on medium or high texture settings with 2x MSSA and everything else disabled. Its an absoloute dream to play, except for one thing. No matter how well it runs for 99 percent of the time, when an AI plane area bombs a portion of the map, my VIVE judders very hard. I was forced to reduce settings to the lowest possible (with 2x MSSA) and although its miles better the judder still persists. Were I to be prone to motion sickness this would be a big problem I would imagine. Do the devs and the community know about this problem in VIVE/VR and are there any possible fixes or plans to fix it? Its not a game breaking problem but at the same time it does rather mar an otherwise exceptional experience. Anyone know if there are optimiziations planned or coming soon for the VIVE? Settings dont even need to be high for a great experience but this is a problem that really needs to be fixed as it doesnt matter how much you lower the settings the judder will appear when a massive AI bombing takes place. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The VIVE is amazing guys with DCS, it actually gives a real sensation of flight and makes my stomach turn. I dont think I could go back to track IR now though! Its a bit blury and pixilated but cant expect perfect just yet. Anyhoo, was wondering I used a HOTAS warthog so most of the commands I need are good to go and I can also use the mouse to click others but can anyone direct me to a switch that puts the aircraft in hover mode? I ussually just use the keyboard see and never found it. Many thanks

ah jeeze I forgot that u must hold the descent button down! I've only been pressing it once! Ha ha, thanks I will give that a try fellow wolf. Got to say guys I',m blown away by how good DCS world 2 is. With the old engine DCS was still a great program, but the graphics were always something that I found rather distracting and immersion breaking even with mods on. DCS world 2 however is almost as good as it will ever need to be IMO. Ive heard it works very well on VR too though that was only one mans opinion. Really hope so and hope I wont have to turn the beautiful graphics down too much!

Damned loving this module more than any so far but the actual flying and landing is certainly the most difficult and I've died many times attempting to land! Now it seems to me there are two ways to land the KA50, the easy way in a similar manner to a plane (long run up on a runway) and the difficult way from a slow perpendicular hover downwards! Sad to say but I cant seem to master the later, and hover down landings tend to send my shark into fatal judder fits. Is this just not a good way to land the shark, and should I just stick to landing it at airports? Its not to say I havent managed these landings a few times but I would appreciate any tips! Many thanks! This sim has certainly confirmed that helicopters are much more dangerous than planes!

Getting a Vive soon too cant wait! So DCS runs well in VR then? Hows the screen res? I have a GTX980ti and am hoping I wont have to lower my settings on DCS.2, as I dont think its too taxing a game graphically. I think VR is the one thing that will make DCS.2 as close to perfect as possible especially as I also have a Warthog set up.

i got a GTX 980Ti and was wondering if when the price comes down when the new GPUs are released this year would it be worth picking up a second for an SLI set up. Cant answer your question dude but Ive seen many people complain about this and have problems with SLI which puts me off the idea of buying a second GPU tbh due to the fact that game devs for some reason dont seem to utilize or support the second card and as you seem to be experiencing some games will just ignore one of the cards. I dont know why this is but would imagine its because the card companies demand this of the gaming companies. They dont want you buying an old cheaper card and having the same set up as you would with a newer more expensive system. Otherwise I cant think why people have these problems! Just a conspircy theory but who knows!

I only have 3 modules though from the sounds of it I made some pretty astute choices! I have: Ka-50 A10C (own a warthog and thats why I bought DCS in the 1st place) Mig 21 Havent enough experience with the Mig or the Ka-50 just yet but after a few days getting to know the systems on the Ka-50 I think I am defo a helicopter man! Cant really put it into words I just love the feeling of flight on the chopper, but also the computer and targeting systems on the black shark are very cool (wordsmith) and I found the start up proceedure for some reason alot easier to learn than with the A10C. I just love everything about the Ka-50 so far. People who dont sim dont realize the feeling of power these modern weapon systems can bring to ones fingertips! Who needs science fiction you're a flying terminator and the complexity and satisfaction of learning only serves to increase the feeling of accomplishment and delusive omnipotence! A10C is an awesome experience and I'm gonna get better on the Mig21 after reading how popular it is, as although I can fly it I never really got to grips with the weapons systems on the Mig though the tutorial wasnt all that great either.

Plane swerving without any input !
Wolf8312 replied to Shadow KT's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
Im not sure if its the same problem I had but there is an option in misc options that you can check or uncheck stating 'synchronise cockpit controls with Hotas controls at mission start'. Whenever I check this button and load up an instant action with the A10C the plane will automatically veer left (or right cant remember) and crash with no input from myself. If I uncheck this box things will return to normal. Dont understand it but maybe it will help. -
I am a noob to flight sims or at least this is the first time in my life I have ever gotten into them properly with the warthog and track IR etc so I am certainly no expert. (I actually only like combat flight sims) I spent weeks trying to land a plane on Battle of stalingrad until eventually I realized that the most important thing of all is to get the speed right, for each specific aircraft. I have now succesfully landed many planes on DCS to but I have got to say these big modern military aircrafts are alot easier to land than the planes in BOS. I would imagine this would be true to real life and that modern aircrafts are actually much easier to (is this correct?) land (airbrakes, chutes etc) than the older models but I guess as they are way more complex I was expecting it to be way more difficult to land them. Also of course the same methods and principals I learned in BOS also applied to DCS and practice landing older planes did in fact make me a better so called pilot. With many planes I idle the engine (not with the mig 21!) and bring it down to about 2000 feet (lower with BOS planes), then reduce speed by circling around the airport a bit, deploy flaps and landing gear and then bring the old bird home. This generally works out fine for me. The key thing is getting the correct speed but I also found that its best not to touch down with the throttle engaged and best to float down at the very last second. To be honest I was actually rather dissapointed with how easy it was to land the mig 21 in DCS I guess this is the price we pay for getting the hang of something! It requires a much diffrent higher speed approach than an A10C or one of the BOS planes but with experience of landing the other planes it felt somehow intuitive and I realized that I had to go as slowly as I possibly could while keeping speed up enough to not bellyflop. I am way over selling myself here as I am after all still a very bad pilot who will in the weeks to come mangle many a plane! But what I am getting at is I suppopse the old adage practice makes perfect. You will get a feel for it over time. Of course it really depends what you are flying too.

I was getting some micro stutters -if that’s the right expression- which shocked me considering my computer is way in advance of the recommended requirements (GTX 770 etc) for this rather old game. I often see when watching videos on you tube that many other people suffer the same phenomenon a sporadic lag or something which is actually very irritating and immersion breaking. The only thing that solved it for me was to switch DCS world to my solid state drive and run it from there. I am perplexed to think that were it not for the SSD this game would not be running right. It wasn’t even a problem that was solved by lowering graphics settings.
