Vive or CV1 - Decision time after using both
Wolf8312 replied to hansangb's topic in Virtual Reality
One thing though is how much use are you planning to get out of it before upgrading in the future? Rift tracking method will I think definately change in the future, but as the VIVE tracking is pretty much perfect already you will probably be able to use the basestations you buy for the first gen headset, on your 2nd, or even 3rd gen headsets. Dont quote me on that though! To be honest I only use my VIVE for DCS at the moment. Its the only really amazing game that has managed to hold my interest. If the rift is much cheaper and if DCS is all you want out of the experience go with the rift. Personally glad I went with the VIVE though, because I do think there will be killer roomscale games eventually and think its more future proof in that sense and better technology. Vive is catching and maybe has already caught up with the rift for DCS as well, and it is probably no longer the lesser experience it was last year. I cant seriously imagine there is much in it, considering how well its running for me. Vive also have alot more things in the pipeline such as wireless, which if you've ever tried to play VR roomscale with a wire you will know is a huge huge plus. -
SWORDFISH's VR Performance increase using second PC
Wolf8312 replied to hansangb's topic in Virtual Reality
I hav 2 PC's but am I right in thinking/hoping that one of them neednt be a particularly good PC? -
If you want a really amazing VR experience get into the black shark helicopter. Its easily my favorite DCS module but in VR its just incredible. Its armed to the teeth but helicopters are so low to the ground and dangerous that in VR its a real thrill!

Anyone else find that the Ai can sometimes behave funny when set to move? I had the trigger point over my starting point and it moved fine followed the road no problem. However when I moved it outside of my starting point and flew into it the Ai went nuts and went all over the place before moving out. One thing that worries me is that there is a question mark next to my advanced waypoint 'hold' order. Is that how it should be? Is there any reason for or something I am doing wrong, or can do to prevent erratic Ai behaviour?

Thanks man will take a look. I learned how to use flags yesterday by having enemy units that can't defend themselves move when I enter their zone! I added an extra mission goal, and you have to take out artillary in order for our tanks to move forward. Still ironing out the bugs but it's great fun and hope to get a few hours with it tonight. Very time consuming though don't actually play DCS very much anymore! I notice there is a trigger point for 'missile in zone' but is there one for simply 'fire in the zone' they have one for damage, but in many cases by the time you've damaged a unit you've also destroyed it. I think you're right about the mig (should change it to F5). Maybe I will trigger him after the tanks are destroyed and then trigger another friendly aircraft to come deal with him, but have the friendly arrive late so that flying home is a hairy experience as you try to shake him off and hold out for help. I think it's possible to kill him but might depend to much on luck as it's a pretty uneven battle. I will probably change it to an A10C for authenticity and just because they are easier to take down. As for scripting, going have to take a look into that, no idea how to do it, next I'm gonna look into uploading audio and pictures I think.

Yes the mig is lethal but I was kind of hoping the mission to play like cat and mouse. Kill the 4 tanks before the AA mig can kill you. Was not finished and it's too difficult at present, but I think maybe if I lessen the AA around the attack zone it might work, but then it gets rather dull. I had great fun yesterday just trying to evade the mig by swooping up, down and around buildings. Obviously as it's a Russian plane it's not what I want to use eventually but at present I am just trying things out. Aside from learning the Ai and programming processes I think the hardest aspect to creating a good mission is probably going to be trying to strike a balance, and not make a mission too hard, nor too easy. The black shark is one of my favorite modules but I don't want the mission to allow simply sniping off all the targets from a safe distance as this gets boring and too easy. On the other hand helicopters are sitting ducks! It's much more fun to require one to go in fast and less reliant on targeting systems, so I was hoping the mig could play this role, kind of a bug up the butt. You can't stop, and so you have to be very quick taking out the targets while playing cat and mouse. Not sure if this is feasible, but it's what I'm going to try to do in future.

Thanks your mission gave me a lot to learn and think about. Need to read up on flags I think. It worked well yesterday yes. One question do you think I was right when I said that maybe the Huey wasn't working properly with trigger points when other AC were doing fine because the Huey is a more primitive AC with more basic navigation systems?
-
Will have a look later man thanx alot! So the one I gave you last night (or last night here) was that not set up correctly?
-
Ah I see now 'weapons free' isnt some hippy plane with no ball pods but means freely engage! Was wondering why you wanted me send an enemy out to destroy me free of weapons!
-
I need to use weapons free as a trigger action though dude? Gonna go get the manual!
-
Great ideas yeah I just fly it myself but thats got to be easier and quicker having the AI do it. If you do look at the mission downlad the file attached here as I needed to make an alteration to a mistake. New new mission.miz

Quite right sorry, not sure which actually made it look better downgrading from high visibility, turning of HDR or both, but I think its the former, HDR just dosent really make much of a diffrence that I can see. Go on vegas in a densly poplulated area and compare high or extreme to medium or low visibility. I was getting alot of shimmer.
-
No HD on though and high visibility. Changed it it looks much better
-
I was just playing Vegas and wondering why everything looked so terrible in comparison to how it used to be (not talking blurry ss) then realized it was because my settings were higher than normal. I had visibility cranked up high and HD on, but turning these settings off made things much better. Makes sense really because if you're getting some shimmer on medium visibility your gonna see a whole lot more shimmer on high or extreme... Was wondering though if this pretty much means being able to crank up in game graphics settings, far from making things look better will actually make them look worse?

Hey dude this is one using the advice you just gave me. Seems to be working ok but havent had time to test it properly yet and I keep getting shot down by other elements! Just wondering if I did everything you told me correctly? New new mission.miz
-
So I think I understand. This will busy the enemy aircraft and keep him going round and round (1-3) until the trigger point is sprung at which time he will continue to the next way point (4) and engage when inevitably coming into contact with me his enemy?
-
I think I've got it going now, I think very occasionally it wont work but I just got shot down by an A10C so I must be doing something right  Dont know whats going on with the Huey and other helicopters I loaded up on Vegas just plain fell over lol! I do wonder if certain modules are not quite ready yet. I will post my vegas mission below and if you want you can have a look at that one as its a little more polished (lol ) than the other one though I use that term loosely! Its basically the Huey and maybe the M18 that seems to have problems but then I havent tried enough AC on vegas yet to be sure. KA-50 seems to work very well so it might well be module specific especially given the beta nature of vegas! Perhaps the Huey cant find me because its an older AC and its navigation systems combined with the laughable data I provided to hunt me down are simply not good enough? Would make sense being a simulator and fact that the Ka-50 and A10C have GPS systems! I guess I just thought the computer would just home in on whatever I set it to home in on! Still I'm not saying everything is ok now, gonna have to wait and see! It does seem to just randomly not work on occasions. Oh and thanks for the help and advice really blows me away that people would take the time to look at my homework just to help me out! New mission.miz
-
The problem in a nutshell was that it seems to work with the Ka-50 but not with the Huey (dont own) or the Mi-8 (own). It also worked fine with the A10 C (another module I own). The AH-1W also works. So guys inescapable conclusion seems to be that certain modules are not working correctly in the mission editor especially the Huey. So is there anything specific about the Huey I should know, like maybe some option that needs to be changed before it will work, or is the pilot just thinking Ka-50 (my AC) and noping out?
-
I've tried having them both go into the zone and through the zone but they just land or go nuts. It worked before with one helicopter then I loaded it up again (the same mission) and it suddenly didnt work this is what is always happening as if it just resets. Starting to think it must be bugged as it really does just seem to work and not work whenever it feels like it. I mean I am using the same system for the trigger aircrafts as the messages and the messages work ok. This one attached is the one I just used and the planes keep either landing or going haywire. And yes I changed the condition for 'unit in zone' from blue to myself, it might seem like that was the problem but that was just an oversight it's still not working now and wasn't working before with 'unit in zone' set to myself. Might sound like a stupid question but does one need to own the module in order to set an aircraft as an enemy? I own the Ka-50 and seem to have alot better luck getting this to work and attack me, than I do the Huey (which I dont own) though the Huey has worked on occasions but it seems rarer. I will try the Mi-8 (also own) and see. Answer- No I changed to the Mi-8 (from the Ka-50 which was working) sure to give them each a payload and they too suddenly wont attack and just land? I've tried everything its just random, no matter if I make new trigger points it will still just work whenever it feels like it though I have to say it seems more reliable with the KA-50. I am about ready to give up, it must be bugged because were talking about successful settings that work. I then change helicopters and use the exact same settings (and taking the time to make new trigger points) and then it suddenly wont work! Just works whenever it feels like it apparently. test mission.miz

I should also clarfify there's kind of a reason I don't wish to use waypoints for enemy aircraft or bring them close to, into, or through my own flight path or tigger zone. What I want to happen is the aircrafts to be doing basically nothing, or doing their own thing at least, well away from me and my flight path, until I enter the trigger point at which point, then and only then will they start moving towards me.
-
Well just had one attack as told and the other fly home, one had waypoins into and out of the trigger zone, the other had way point through the trigger zone. I cancelled all advanced way points. Will try again later, hopefully can get this sorted out before I go insane!
-
Hang on will check and report back
-
Thing is if I just fly them over to where I am they will attack automatically wont they and I wont know if they were triggered. I dont really want them to set off to attack me until they are triggered as if they are responding to my encroachment. Tried flying them into my trigger zone or general area with task push instead, but they just flew home again, will check and try again.
-
Oh so I am supposed to have the enemy Ka-50's have waypoints into the trigger zone as well? As for advanced waypoints I thought it shouldnt matter because I think I read that when triggered they will drop all tasks and head for the triggered mission task. I was really trying to give him something to do to be hoenst to stop him landing all the time! I will make the changes you suggest and report back! Really thanks for taking the time!

Got it working on vegas again by basically doing the same thing I did last night (starting over) but also set the AI to excellent which seems to do better, but obviously now I have to face down excellent AI! That might just be my imagination but I think I read somewhere someone saying to set them to excellent. I think somehow new trigger points I made interfered with the 'trigger enemy' trigger points but to be honest I didnt even have any of these for the 1.5.5 missions and they seemed to be working one day but not the next just like vegas. Makes me rather wary and I just need to know what I am doing wrong!
