That would have been an option, true! Thing is, I was also pretty much out of chaffs...wanted to play it safe :) But next time, I will give it a try! Edit: Okay, there really seems to be a bug: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=75620

To get this right: you can only rearm/resupply at the base you started? I flew a MP mission today. The target area was 80nm from our homeplate. After the air defenses were destroyed, we wanted to rearm and landed at a base near the target area (some 40nm away and there were some friendly units on it) and couldn't rearm. It was pretty frustrating: there was ONE SAM left, both of us had 6 GBU-12s but no mavs left ... :S So just at homeplate, is it the mission designers decision and if so, is there any way to tell whether you can rearm or not?

System Build Discussion, and a couple small questions
Eggcake replied to arriflex's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Track IR works fine with the 64bit version, at least for me. I think there were problems in the beginning / only beta versions of the TrackIR software worked. But now the final 5.x software works fine. In SP there can be a problem that you can't use Center commands from TrackIR - just start TrackIR with administrator rights and everything's fine. -
Ok first thing I noticed is you don't even start at Vaziani :> Damn those close lying airports :D Oh god, embarassing. Edit: And yeah, it works on the correct airport. Even on the runway :>
-
Pushed the INT button, and selected also "INT" on that wheel. Either something is messed up or I messed up. But it works on other airports without any problems... And it's really news for me that you can just open the canopy with engines shut down. That's a really nice idea of ED! :) Just tested it and it works. Didn't test it on the mission though Edit: Okay, there is something wrong with the "In the Weeds" mission. If I try to rearm at vaziani with a custom mission there is no problem. It definitely isn't working in that particular mission if I RTB to rearm and refuel... :(
-
Well I tried really many spots. I tried it at several points mentioned in the ground chart, with no succcess. Here is an image. If anyone can point me where I can rearm and refuel I would be grateful. I also tried it at the other end of the runway where I definitely started at several missions...
-
I didn't want to create a thread for that but: Where can I rearm/refuel at Vaziani? I did the mission "In The Weeds" yesterday and was out of ammo for the last 2 waypoints with targets. I went back to Vaziani to rearm and refuel but I just couldn't find a spot where I got an answer from the ground crew. I did it right for sure, as I did it several times on other airports.

I tried the mission "In the weeds". It's a really good mission where you have to fly low (or behind hills) to evade SAMs. Because of that, there is a higher risk of getting shot down by machine gun fire from BMPs or even AAAs. There are also some Streals lurking around.

And it worked. My second attempt :) Had to reconnect several times but there was one very long connect. I don't know, but I think I tried to correct for too little/was afraid to crash with the tanker. But if you just remember or predict how your plane reacts and know where to put the throttle afterwards, it gets easier. For example if you see that you are getting too slow/the boom is "too much" in the green, push the throttle forward for like 10-20%, but pull back after ~1s (before you actually gained the needed speed to get closer to the tanker) below the position where you maintained your speed before and go back to the initial position after another second. Something like that. But yes: this only comes with practice and it was far from perfect - with this in mind, I go and try again :) PS: Watching the replay with higher speed and seeing the plane hopping up and down and left and right is pretty funny :> Edit: Yes! - full refuel without losing the connection to the tanker. Funny thing: right after that one of my engines failed. Was my first "random" failure... Next stop: refueling in night ops :D
-
Thanks for the advice. A possible problem could have been that I changed the trim and that I trimmed with a wrong speed in the first place. I remember that I knew the exact speed of the tanker - but I don't think I was at that speed when I trimmed. So yeah, that lead to constant corrections when I was in contact. I also increased the curvature of the roll axis a bit. I never had problems with 15 curv during "normal" operations but maybe 20 will help for air refueling. I will try it again and report back. :)
-
Tried it too yesterday. Damn it's difficult. Was my first try. I could connect but no more than 5 seconds or so. And my hand hurt afterwards haha. Will keep practicing. One problem I'm still having is to trim properly. Any tips for that? I mean - I can make my plane fly straight more or less but it takes really long until I get it right...

OCZ VerteX 2 VS Corsair force 3
Eggcake replied to Pilotasso's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I'm still no fan of the sandforce products. They still have so many problems. I always recommend Intel SSDs because they just work and have very few (if any) bugs. In addition, what they promise is what you get. No half data rates with uncompressible data and no speed drop after filling the drive once or twice. And in regard of the faster loading times (post #1) : CPU makes a HUGE difference when comparing actual loading times of applications. At least with my Q9550 the loading times often scale PERFECTLY with the CPU clock (2-4GHz) - I did pretty extensive tests. In my opinion the actual benefit of "faster" SSDs is minimal on todays desktop computers. If you need them for specific application which profit (like DBS) it can help for sure, but the difference between "2nd Gen. drives) (Intel X25-M, SF-12xx) is minimal in the real, "measured" performance, because there are other limiting factors like CPU or FS. So I for myself go for the SSDs with best reliability, which is still Intel IMHO. Sadly, "one-click" benchmarks like CDM only tell a very little part of the whole story. -
I myself increased the sensitivity a lot so that I don't have to turn my head too far to reach the buttons and knobs right next to the seat (lights for example). TIR sometimes hangs a bit if I look down and want to "zoom" in, probably can't see all the LEDs of the Clip (using TIR5 with Pro Clip). But it's not that bad.
-
I actually did but didn't quite get it. But I think I understand now :)

Well, it's really bad if you switch often between 30 and 60 fps for example (so if you get "around" 60 FPS). It feels like the game slows down and speeds up again. It's not that bad in DCS though I have to admit. I rarely get >60FPS with my settings. Im testing VSync On right now. To be honest, I didn't "feel" any difference (my FPS were always at 30, sometimes they dropped). So if I don't feel a big difference but the tearing is gone --> VSync on. But I think I need more testing :) Right now I'm still at 1650x1050 but I'll switch to 1920x1080 this weekend - I probably have to lower the graphics settings. "Highest" is too much for a 5850 it seems. It's a bit Off Topic but what settings do you think can be lowered with the "least" impact on graphics quality?

Somehow I don't get permission to start up at Beslan from ATC :(

How to safely engage T-72 tanks for a guns kill?
Eggcake replied to -Ice's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
I usually play with labels on, because it's really hard to spot targets without JTAC. For gun runs, I target vehicles with TGP and disable labels (I even have a shortcut on my joystick for that). Mostly using the CCIP reticle so it doesn't hide the target. -

I also have some problems with tanks - maybe I'm just too far away, never get this close. Will definitely try it. From >1.0 it's pretty much impossible to kill a tank without using half of your rounds imho... -
Ah, that really could be it. Completely forgot about it. I will monitor the temp next time :)
-
I now also had the problem, that after the (successful) repair of my A-10 (CADC was broken), soon after takeoff I had Left Hydraulic Failure. Sadly the track is useless as the mission was over 1h long and in the track my plane crashes...

SFJackBauer's Saitek X-52 Profile
Eggcake replied to SFJackBauer's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Kinda old, but if anyone has this problem, he is probably playing in windowed mode and did multitask at some point. If you have this problem (not just with this profile), Alt+Tab again, and press Win + D to minimize all windows. Then click again on DCS A-10 and it shouldn't happen again. Allthough I saw this profile the first time today, I did a very similar one - it works really nicely. Don't need mode switches at all. Of course one can add more commands to the other modi. I am using Mode 3 for "Navigation And Landing" so that I can squeeze as many important buttons in one mode (+pinky) as possible. -
Question: Have you tried using no fullscreen mode? Game runs nearly perfectly for me in windowed mode (looks like full screen) and alt tabbing work also very good.
-
Ah, finally someone with the same problems (planes on ground & helo doing nothing). Then it's not just me. I really like the mission, it's really sad it's bugged at the moment :(
-
Ok so, now in full, there is another problem: In Shore 01 you don't get taxi permission from the tower and the F-16s don't start either. The C-17A which was, in beta, taxiing to parking right when you started stops in the middle of nowhere. :(

You can try to increase the number of simultaneous connections in the settings, maybe it helps. Don't set it too high, otherwise your computer or router/modem can't handle it and you get worse speed. 150-200 for a single torrent turned out to be good for me (maybe higher is even better, don't know ;) ). Edit: Oh and make sure to open the port(s) the torrent program is using.
