  1. Is there a similar way to change the splash screen and wallpaper for the dora?
  2. I understand that the developers do not want to have historically accurate skins for the German WII planes. Are there mods available for this? Ideally the default DCS skins should be modified since it's only a minor change. I'm a bit OCD when it comes to details.
  3. Slightly OT: what is merging? Thanks, ekg
  4. It would be cool for fully simulated war scenarios. However I doubt that will happen in the next 10 years :)
  5. I've tried an instant mission with the Dora D-9 hoping to get a furball. Boy was I in for a surprise when my opponents turned out to be A-10s and F-15s I would like to propose a change to instant mission to allow the user to select the enemy in more detail so that it's not just tailored for FC3.
  6. Thanks for the help guys! I can now land the Dora :) The trick was locking the tail wheel and not using wheel brakes. Doing that makes it easy to keep the plane straight on the runway. The brakes are very dangerous at high speeds. Even just under 100 km/h the tail wheel will lift since the wheels become like a pivot when the brakes are on.
  7. I managed to get a a successful landing! No veering off the runway either! The trick appears to be to lock the tail wheel prior to touching ground or just the moment touches the ground. This appears to be the crucial piece. If it's not locked in time then it will go out of control. And you'll go too fast to use wheel brakes to fix it. Brakes are a big no-no until speed goes under 100 KIAS. I'll have to practice some more :)
  8. The landing thread has been usurped by take-off posts so I figured I'd make a thread about how to stop the dora in one piece when on the runway. I'm able to touch ground at or slightly below 200 km/h. The plane then wants to go left. If I try to use wheel brake or rudder to make it go right it causes the plane to flip and the pilot dies. Would be nice to get a detailed version of what successful pilots do (i.e. at speed x apply brake / rudder / aileron / elevator this way).
  9. When I turned labels one I was able to shoot down the AI :) It takes some time but eventually I can get behind him since I know where he is. Has anyone had a stall at 300 kph? For example I'm after the ai my speed is 300 and i'm not pulling on the stick too hard and the plane suddenly starts rolling. I'm finding my biggest challenge now , with labels one vs AI, is to not crash the plane
  10. Bump for more exposure :)
  11. Check the axis controls for the modules. You probably have trackir z set to zoom axis.
  12. Can anyone post a track of the instant action dogfight from DCS 1.5? I've been doing it for about a week and the best I can get is go head-on with the mustang. I can never seem to get on his 6 and I'm pretty sure the AI would simply out turn me. I occasionally lose sight of the ai and then it's on my 6. When this happens I just dive to reach about 500-600 km/h to get distance and then when it's far away enough do a hard turn. Usually works to regain some parity in the situation. Climbing when I'm far way with the mustang on my 6 gets me shot. As far as high speed and low speed turns what values are those for the dora and mustang respectively? I find that at 400 km/h or 500 km/h turn I still get hit. I've also stalled and crashed a few times (it's hard to search for the bandit and look at the speed the same time). Usually stall somewhere less than 350 kph.
  13. How do you shake a mustang off your six?
  14. Here's an arcade style MiG-29 sim that I played as a kid. It only costs $5 and doesn't require any expensive hardware. You don't even need a HOTAS. You can get your friends start with this MiG-29 Fulcrum. Then when they want to go more advanced they can shell out the cash for the hardware ($1000 minimum) and pay the $40 for FC3.
  15. If your friends can afford the hardware they can afford FC3. ED gives more than enough content for free as it is. This isn't some instantaneously gratifying arcade game. Flight sims of this level (even FC3) aren't supposed to be easy. If your friends don't have the patience for it too bad.
  16. Tried it again this time reached 9km. I had hypoxia. Really well animated by ED :)
  17. I did an experiment where I turned off the oxygen and flew 8km into the air. I even opened the canopy a bit (around 6 km). The pilot survived? Is this as intended or a bug? I thought I should have seen stars and then passed out.
  18. Done... Well not really only changed OP icon :)
  19. I missed that thread. In any case I think this one is still valid since I think Su-27S is the only realistic DCS level module we can expect any time soon. And by soon I mean 2-3 years but hopefully faster if there is enough demand. I think more modern variants like Su-27SM or Su-35 would certainly be better but are unfortunately pipe dreams given the reality when it comes to making a publicly available simulator.
  20. I'd like to open a thread for a DCS Level Su-27. First, to see what sort of demand this project would have and second, whether ED can implement it (assuming manpower not being an issue since they are busy now :) ). From what I've read it seems that getting a more modern version of the Su-27 the SM variant is not possible because there is not enough information available for a full fidelity model. Given this reality I think many of us would, for lack of a better word, settle for a DCS Level Su-27S. I'm hoping this is a feasible project since a PFM already exists and basic systems are implemented in the FC3 version. I think that it would be fair to have this as a stand alone module priced similarly to the A-10C and Ka-50 modules. After having gotten into some of the DCS level modules I can say that I likely won't be playing any of the FC level planes much more. However the Su-27 is one of my favourite planes and I would really want to see it modelled to full fidelity. I'd like to hear from ED what there thoughts are on this as well as the community. Hopefully this is possible. In addition if we can show that there is enough demand for such that it is a worthwhile investment for ED then we might actually see this happen. PLEASE DO NOT RESPOND TO THIS THREAD UNLESS YOU WANT THIS MODULE OR ARE ON THE ED TEAM. IF YOU WANT TO DEBATE THAT MODERN CLASSIFIED PLANES ARE THE ONLY THING WORTH YOUR MONEY THEN MAKE YOUR OWN THREAD OR GO TO THIS RELATED TOPIC: SU-27S Or SM
  21. Where are some of the controls that can only be accessed via keyboard shortcut in the training? For example to unlock the throttle was a key command (if I remember it was RALT+L) Another one is the radiator flaps (LALT+W) How are those actually accessed in the plane? Are there any others like this?
