That actually kinda makes sense. When I climb and start stalling I usually push on the stick so that would result in some negative G's (not enough for a red-out though). Is the correct manoeuvre then to first rotate upside-down and pull back?
-
When I try to climb high (altitude > 10K) with afterburner and I stall something ends up causing the engines to shut down. The plane also inverts upside-down and falls vertically. I usually can't recover. Sometimes after falling for a while they will restart sometimes they won't. Any ideas why that happens? I find that I can't handle this bird as easily as in Flanker 2.5 :) (not complaining this is a good thing). Does anyone have any ideas off the top off their head? I don't have track at the moment but I can provide one if necessary.

Is there a way to get the scroll to work on the mouse? The problem is I can't get it to work with TrackIR. I can't assign it in the key commands either. I found the setting. It was under axis commands. I removed trackIR z from zoom and it works now

Help defending against 120 ' and Radar missiles in general.
ekg replied to Fallout's topic in DCS: Flaming Cliffs
A defensive technique I use but don't know what is called is to fly at about 30 degrees off the missile path. That is if the attacker is at my 12'o clock and I get a warning he fired I bank left or right 30 degrees. I also release chaff. This usually works for me but I haven't tried against a 120. The advantage of this is that you can keep lock while being defensive. I usually don't make adjustments to my speed when I do this. Also I suppose flying up might help as well but I don't really do that. If you're level with your opponent and you go up then the missile has to convert kinetic energy to potential energy to meet your new height. -
How do I get scroll zoom to work with TrackIR? I tried disabling the z-axis in trackIr but then I can't zoom at all. Any ideas?

These frequencies they can be jammed right? Would make for a neat mission (find the jammer and kill him).

Hmm... I would rather the remaining planes in FC3 be upgraded to individual modules using advanced systems and professional (or whatever is highest) flight modelling. As for themes they can be sold as maps and campaigns.

So far I have only been flying th Su-27. I haven't tried the others yet. Lots to learn :) I got around the limitation by assigning the w key to the toe brakes in the saitek software. It would be nice if ED updates this. I've burst my tires a few times in the Su-27 because of the wheel brakes lol
-
I think it makes it more immersive. This is especially true for taxing :) But it also allows you to make finer adjustments in flight. The toe brakes can't be assigned to wheel brakes unfortunately but you can configure it in the software that comes with it (Su-27 anyways). Up to you to decide if it's worth $200 for you.

How easy / how hard would it be to modify this if I wanted to? Is there a tutorial / wiki on this? Also what kind of instruments will you have exported? Thanks for putting in the work for this! :)

Thanks, I filed a ticket for this

Would there be any problem with owning / installing modules registered with different accounts? When I bought FC3 I registered a new account because the handle I wanted was reserved (by me long time ago). Since the old handle is my preferred one and is on the same email as my paypal I would prefer to use that. With the sale happening I would like to know if I still have to use the new account for buying modules. Also does this affect multiplayer in any way?

So as far as IR missile usage goes would the following be the only scenarios: 1. Sneak up behind enemy and when within range (closer is better) fire 2. Use during dogfight behind enemy 3. Use just prior to dogfight to get advantage (enemy has to evade) Any others? Radar guided missiles seem to perform better in terms of getting the target. Would there be any guidelines for using those? I know in the training there are two ranges, 1 is max and the other is where missile will be able to reach the target (not necessarily hit it though) 100%. So I would guess to get within the safe range to fire. Since it's passive how does one keep locked without getting shot down? It's much harder to evade enemy fire and stay locked on.

thanks!

I'm assuming 1.5 will come out before 2.0? Is there a release date for 1.5?
-
yes? when I fire the missile goes to my target. But then he does an evasive manuever with flares and the missile turns the opposite way towards the flares. R73 from a Su27
-
What is DCS 1.5? I thought there were no more updates between DCS 1.28 and 2.0
-
Usually I approach them head on, that's how most missions are anyways. Yes I do turn on radar to try to find them until I can see them.
-
How does one get a good kill ratio with IR missiles? Almost every R-73 that I've shot has been dodged by the AI with flares. It's kind of neat to see the missile being diverted by flares but at the same time it makes a waste of all my shots. I haven't had this issue with the R-77s. Do I have to get behind my opponent to get a better hit rate with them?

Hmmm now that you mention it... Yes I power off the second monitor (right). When I look with my mouse sometimes the mouse goes into the second monitor even though it's turned off. I have to move the mouse back left in order to see it again on the screen. I'm not 100% if I clicked when this happened but that would definitely explain why it loses focus (i.e. I click outside of DCS). DCS would lose focus when the second monitor was on and I was using firefox or saitek HUD. As far as settings go I'm pretty sure I have only one monitor set in the settings. Will have to double check.
-
Nice! This looks pretty good. Any threads about this for Su-27 , F-15? Seems only A-10 and Ka-50 are supported.
-
Would be nice to be able to lay out (and save) instruments on a second monitor in order to avoid looking down with the mouse / pov hat. Would anyone else be interested?
-
So I read the manual for Su 27. I didn't find any mention for which AoA to use when landing. Is there a chart? Also as far as glide slope goes is it mostly accurate to say that if the ils indicator is centered then I'm on the glide slope? Would like to be able to learn to land (and navigate) properly.

I have an issue where sometimes DCS will lose focus and will get minimized in game. I have two monitors, however I keep the second one (right) off when playing. I think there might be some notification in the tray that might cause this. Ideally I would like to avoid going through the exercise to find out which one as there is nothing on the desktop when DCS is minimized. Anyone have a similar issue? Any way to deal with this?

Thanks for summarizing it! :D Even though this isn't FSX I hope they'll consider updating some of these things in the future. Maybe make new "advanced systems" modules for the planes in FC3.
