PointCTRL - Finger Mounted VR Controller
MilesD replied to MilesD's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Hey Metro, It should not move much, If it's moving a lot, its probably a bad calibration. The cursor will move a bit if the head is moved quickly, but then it should settle back on the same spot. I am working to improve this. I believe it is caused by cursor smoothing that is built into the VR Headset or DCS. One of solutions I am working on is to read the vectors of the HMD in their native SDK, apply an temporary, and opposite vector to the mouse cursor, and have the PointCTRL sensor applying the absolute positioning. For now, lets try and do a voice and screen share to be sure you have a good calibration. Just let me know when it's good for you. Thanks for the feedback, Miles- 3421 replies

Copied fromPointCTRL Discord. The currently shipping number has not changed in a while because we were shipping kits to a large number of Simmers from FireCats original list, that were either waiting on v2, or were original adopters that upgraded to v2. Thanks for your patience, and you should see the numbers start moving again. You can find the numbers that are actually invoiced and shipping here... https://discord.com/channels/608478274472902656/815292376883920906/830850278466256906 Thanks again, Miles- 3421 replies

Hey guys, I'm working it, I had to take a short break for a USAF project that has been a challenge. Production of PointCTRL components continues with others help. I will do the final assembly of this next batch as soon as this AF project is shipped. I promise, no more new government projects until all of the PointCTRL back-orders are filled. In addition to the above, some of the reasons things appear to be moving at a slower pace is there area lot of guys from FireCats original list that were waiting on v2. We are also initially shipping v2 slowly to ensure there are no issues with anyone's particular set-ups. Thanks for patience, and I am very aware they may be running out. Miles Hey Iku, You only have to submit a Pre Order form at https://pointctrl.com/ and you will keep your place in line. Thanks- 3421 replies

This is the new HMS mount that v2 is shipping with. It should reduce the reduce the broken USB connectors if the plug gets accidentally grabbed or pulled.- 3421 replies

Hey Jim, Thanks, PointCTRL is far from perfect, but it is an effective solution right now for our needs in DCS. I am sure someone much smarter than me will come out with something better soon. PointCTRL is more of a hobby for me and I am always improving it. As soon as I am caught up with orders I am going to focus on firmware integration with VR Headset SDKs. It won't require a hardware upgrade, just firmware and software download. Thanks, Miles- 3421 replies

Hi Draken, Your good. Some new items have been added to the Pre-Order form on the website, such as the magnetic chargers, which I highly recommend. For now, please do not submit a new pre-order form until you have received your original invoice. Then you can take a look and see if you want to change anything. There will be a field to check if you are updating a pre order form. Thanks Hey TimberWolf, Yes and your good, received on 11/24/20, HP Reverb mount. You were one of the first ones to submit when the confirmation email was bugged. Hi Mower, April is probably a reasonable guess. Thanks for your patience Hello Topo, As Ed McMahon used to say to... Hey TimberWolf, DM your Name or email address and I will check the pre-orders. Hey dburne, We got your pre-order on 02/01/21 Thanks Hey Dutch, Are you on discord, it's easier to troubleshoot on there. My first guess would be a bad calibration or IR interference. Be sure the other FCU is not visible during calibration.- 3421 replies

Update: We are starting to ship v2 and are ramping up production slowly. Those of you on FireCats list can now just submit your order anytime using the pre-order form on the PointCTRL website. You will keep your place in line, and when batches are ready to shi,p the lowest numbers will ship first. I noticed a few of you already used the form before I was done with it. The good news is, the sorting worked perfect by list number. I added a few things, mostly just a Basic and Advanced kits to make things easier to order and a bit of a discount. If you want to update your order just resubmit it and I will delete the old one. If the order form is not clear, please let me know. I can make things overly complicated sometimes. You may have to zoom in a bit to read some of the pics. We will have a regular online store as soon as we are through the pre-orders, and if there is still interest. Thanks everyone for your continued patience.- 3421 replies

PointCTRL v2 to being shipping this week. We will start slow with production prototypes, if feedback is positive and nothing pops up from the users, we will increase production every week The HMS is the same form factor as v1, but has an added stress relief in the micro USB connector. We were not getting 100% reliability out of the new micro-controllers. There is no performance or feature gain with the new cortex processor. They were just going to be easier for us to manufacture. The original form factor actually works better for all VR headsets except the Index. If you have an Index, you can wait until we offer both form factors if you like. Pics of the index can be seen in the HMS pics channel on the Discord. Thanks again for all of your support patience, we truly appreciate it. Miles- 3421 replies

Awesome stuff frenzon, That looks like perfect hand tracking to me, I assume it tracks the center of the hand mass? Did that ring came with AR glasses? I have been researching something similar that would integrate with the Inside out tracking cameras. Thanks for sharing, Miles- 3421 replies

Hey Helo Guy, I was thinking about the same thing also. The two distinct DCS (modifiers/switches) may work. The first is the switched mode, where it toggles the modifier on/off. The problem with that it can loose sync, only good for pilot and co-pilot. Another option, that should work for all three stations, is assigning two modifiers to a double pole switch with a center off, like the many 3 position switches on the warthog throttle. You would have to remap all of your buttons of that station because the modifier is always "being pressed" and button presses without the modifier won't be recognized. Unfortunately you can't map the modifier to change seat position, but you can with something like voice attack, adding a keypress macro once to the same switch. Disclaimer: I only tested this on the controls page, I hope to jump on tonight and test it in flight. So it would look like this with the switch positions Center = Move current station to Pilot, No modifiers, current set-up (voice attack or similar needed to execute the station change on switch release of both modifier buttons) Up = Move current station to Co-Pilot, All switches mapped with modifier button 27 Down = Move current station to Door Gunner, All switched mapped with modifier button 28 (Probably switch to a default side and then another switch for left and right stations) Hope this works, I tested it on the controls menu, I will test tonight in the aircraft. Hey Avid Flyer, PointCTRL emulates a mouse and keyboard. The PC just see it as another HID device. How effective PointCTRL interacts with any sim or application is dependent on that particular piece of softwares mouse implementation (LEFT Click, RIGHT Click, and Mouse wheel). I haven't personally tested it on x-plane, but I don't believe it works well with it. Still waiting on MSFS VR to come out so we can test it. I did speak with a USAF pilot today who said they got it working on a new version of P3D. I know one of the guys was working with Lockheed Martin to make it more compatible with PointCTRL. Specifically the right mouse button bringing up a menu and loosing VR window focus and a few other things. Its really meant for DCS, and its excellent, and well thought out mouse implementation. Hope that helps, Miles Edit: This video does a good job explaining how it all works, actually much better than I could. I should probably put it in my sig. https://youtu.be/74g1VYkDOo0- 3421 replies

Apologies nessuno0505, I kept scanning by that Quest2 pic and thought it was my post and didn't see your questions. 1) For me it's a big improvement over the S, but that come in large part from the adjustable IPD, I have a 72 IPD. Aside from the slightly higher res displays the optics seem a better for me also. A big plus for me is the PnP of it all. I just put in on, click on the Oculus link, and point to DCS and it starts perfectly every time without any fussing about. The S seem to take a few tries to get everything started properly, but that may have been me. Plus having option for wireless room scale content is interesting. 2) You will get v2, I am going to start posting IPR (in progress reports) with pics tonight so everyone can see where we are with it. I know there is a lot of frustration out there with the delay. Posting IPRs will also help keep me stay focused on PointCTRL. 3) Yes you are correct, $15.00 USD shipping for a $8.00 USD item doesn't make sense. Most people buy an extra mount with their initial kit for device they are planning on upgrading. However if you need a STL for a new HMS, I do provide the stl so can print your own. Thanks for your support, I wouldn't say it's amazing, but it does work for us flight simmers in DCS. Grazie ankora Miles- 3421 replies
