Game killed my graphics card
MilesD replied to graywolf71's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Actually, I thought that it was a really great article. It had something for everyone, A lot of pictures for guys like me, but also excellent physics examples that tied into your points. I especially enjoyed the poorly designed heater analogy. Poorly designed, but just as efficient at producing heat. I may have missed it, but if your doing the math, the draw in watts is measured at the AC source before the power supply, as most power supplies are only around 70% efficient. So if you were drawing 525 watts from your 650 watt power supply, you would have to transfer/remove 750 watts of heat, or 750 joules per second from the case. Again, great article, Miles -
Posted just now Just in case you haven't tried this yet... Nvidia control panel, Vsync to fast Oculus UI under devices render resolution to max 5408 x 2736 I am still running a 1080ti so I bumped it down to 72Hz and run a DCS PD of 1.0, and now I can run MSAA For me it's a big improvement from the S. I think its because of my wide IPD of 72. Plus it just works great. Starts up every time and just click on DCS in the virtual desktop, never had it so easy. One great feature is the ability to double tap anywhere on the headset to activate the pass the thru cameras. It's easy to see the keyboard for server passwords, or find my wine during a loading screen. It did force me to put my wine/whiskey in long neck beer bottles to facilitate the transfer process while using the pass thru. Miles Edit: I think you may have to select the betta version in the Oculus home to get the latest firmware.

I second the Quest2, I bought it out of curiosity, and I really like it for DCS. It really is a great unit for 299.00USD.

PointCTRL - Finger Mounted VR Controller
MilesD replied to MilesD's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Hey Vincent, Here is the Cable I bought, https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 The big improvement for me may be mostly because of the adjustable IPD, I just wish it went a little wider. It just works every time I put it on without any fussing about. I have used it a few times, and it works flawlessly. The double tapping of the case anywhere to activate the pass through is really helpful. No more lifting the headset to find stuff. I can see, and use my keyboard with the pass though when entering server passwords or using the search function when binding controls. It always drove me nuts when I had to lift the headset and put on my glasses to see stuff, now I just tap the headset twice and I am good. I only had to make a few adjustments to get a good pic, Nvidia Vsync to FAST, Max the Oculus resolution slider, DCS PD to 1. For me, this is a good enough place holder until gen3, or something comes out that will accommodate my IPD of 72. Miles- 3421 replies

So I just bought this thing out of curiosity of what a $299.00USD VR headset would be like. All I can say is, Holy Crap I like it. Much Clearer and better build quality than the Rift S, and because of my wide IPD, much clearer and better overall feel than the Reverb G1 for me.- 3421 replies

If you haven't looked at this thread, have a look, I lot of info for Quest2 settings https://forums.eagle.ru/forum/englis...vr#post7152555 Did you have any luck with DCS Vsync OFF and Nvidia Vsync set to fast? Miles
-
The biggest improvement for me was enabling the Oculus beta mode, maxing the Oculus resolution slider, its something like 5400 x 2800, 72Hz, DCS VSync off, but Nvidea VSync to fast. I am really likeing this headset, and still running a 1080ti, I7, and 32gb ram.

Hey Elmo, Yes, it uses the original WH base but it puts no additional forces on the plastic ball. The 4 springs counteract each other above and below the ball. Here what the first ones look it look like installed. A bit rough looking but they work well. The parts in the pic you attached make this. Thanks for asking.

Thanks Don and Notso for the links. Since my hearing is shot anyway, I ordered from the $17.99 Amazon link instead of the $130.00 one. I still have kids at home to feed and pay for their college. Thanks again, Miles

Hey Don, What earbuds do you recommend for sound isolation? I am not an audio guy, but I really like your idea of using earbuds. Things tend to get even warmer with my big ass headphones over the VR headset, plus it's a pain for me to put everything on and off. MIles

Thanks Miles, (no relation) for your efforts to spur interest in this great era for aircraft. This is why I love these forums, all of these great ideas that you guys share. I didn't even think of using the headset mounted PointCTRL aux buttons to go to the virtual desktop. I was just thinking of a way to alt/tab to change window focus with the aux buttons. The Aux buttons are now hard coded as q,w,e,r,t, and y, and you can use them with DCS modifies as well. Just like Snake122 said, if you can come up with a keyboard command, you can do anything you want with the aux buttons. I use PointCTRL all the time on the Oculus virtual desctop.I know RougeSquadron uses "keyboard gremlin" to do a lot of custom mapping with PointCTRL. Hope that helps, thanks for the question harf4ng, and thanks for the answer Snake122. Its really helpful when you guys provide feedback, ideas, and answers for each other, and also me. Dammit Vorkosigan, That was supposed to have been a private conversation between you and I. But things have progressed from chocolate milk to a nice 50/50 mix of Tequila and Mylanta with some fresh mint from the garden. I think that may be part of the reason v2 is taking so long though.- 3421 replies

Hey Harlequin420, You are certainly not bugging me. As I have said before, I do this because I enjoy being part of this community. The best part of the whole PointCTRL thing is when I am on discord voice/screen share with you guys and you use PointCTRL for the first time. Even though it's a simple device, and a pain to make, the reaction is always well worth the efforts. I keep updating the HMS mounts as new VR Headsets come out. When your number is up, that's when you specify which mount you want. As far as ordering 2 sets, If I have enough units, you can order 2 if you like. Like I said, when v2 production starts it should go fast. Thanks, Miles- 3421 replies

Hey Harlequin420, PointCTRL v2 is replacing v1, It's the same list for v1 and v2, it will just pick up by lowest number first. v2 is much easier to produce, so hopefully I will get through this list soon, build inventory, and just go just live on the web site with same day shipping. Thanks for the question, Miles- 3421 replies

Hey Mr Mojo, Voice Assist will only recognize PointCTRL when its using in ports 1 thru 10. If you were programing arduinos, there may be a lot of unused populated com ports. If you haven't already, I would try unplugging PointCTRL and removing all of the unused devices as in the pic below. Then plug PointCTRL back in and update the firmware. The PointCTRL firmware may be corrupted by accidentally uploading to the PointCTRL port with the arduino IDE. I would also check the USB connector on the HMS, we had had several of them fail if they get stressed. Let me know how you make out, we wil get it sorted, Its best to catch me in the discord for PoitCTRL support. Milesd- 3421 replies

Hey Tundra, While every aircraft is different, The few examples I do have, require less stick force in the roll than pitch. The A10-C requires more force when pulling back on the stick then pushing forward. It also has a physical weight attached to the pitch axis that further increases stick force by pulling the stick forward as g's increase. Miles
