Hello everyone, Well just tried the Walleye for the 1st time today, against buildings and a large cargo ship. After searching through the forum, managed to get to release the bombs, but only a few times it was possible. The "auto-lock" feature (where the crosses lock by themselves) only rarelly appears. But my main problem is: the WE cue at the HUD almost always remains crossed ( X ), preventing me from releasing the bomb even when the target is near and clearly visible at the DDI... what I'm I doing wrong ?

Absolutely agree. I believe I've read about it the first time in the Tomcat threads if I recall correctly.

"I can... I spent... I can"... and what about the others ? Have you stopped and think about other people for a minute ? So according to your idea: people that have already invested a LOT on DCS related software (modules, etc), would now have to start spending continuously, to be able to keep using the modules they've paid in full already ?? Please, stop the nonsense.

Well for much that it might be technically superior than the A and B versions, some people tend to identify themselves more with old-school aspects from the early Tomcats. Me for instance, undoubtedly much prefer the old HUD symbology (on the Tomcat only), rather than the D versions SparrowHawk HUD's symbols - already too much like F-15, F-16, etc. "modern" HUDs. I don't know, maybe that early rudimentary symbology does have its own charisma, or it's because it represents the early ways weapons were employed when the Tomcat first came out.

Hello, The page from the F-14 developers (Heatblur) sends you to the DCS World page, where you can see the System Requirements : https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/downloads/world/beta/

The last sentence says it all. Nostalgic times indeed!

So now that we've had the Cat for a bit...

I understand you, what you need is some free time to try all the stuff. -
Actually, for me one thing that attracts me in the F-14 is preciselly its different and more archaich HUD symbology. I would speculate that, those might be probably younger / novice players, eventually too used to light sims or even Ace Combat arcade genres. Definitely not the old-school players. To me which entered the flight sim niche in the early / mid 1990's, all felt pretty much the same regarding HUD symbols, at that time anyway... from one fighter to another. Which is: the typical Airspeed and Altitude indicator boxes were always there, regardless it was an F-14, F-15, a MiG, etc. For instance, my first interaction with an F-14 PC sim was around 1995, however today as you all know - the HUD symbols are not exactly what was depicted at that time, (first pic).

You're welcome - the logbook mod from Home Fries really makes the difference, you can be sure the respective ranks, insignias and medals are eye candy to have. As for me it wouldn't make sense in having the exact same pilot (with the exact same records and stuff) for both the Eagle and the Tomcat, etc (much less for foreign aircraft also). It would just kill all of the immersion factor in any logbook. I did 1 hour of night flying just to have it logged. Air refueling never tried it to be honest, neither campaigns so far. On deaths and ejections, I have many of them on other test pilots, let's say I have been very "carefull" with this one ... -

My good old friend... that's a LOT of "experience gathering" hours indeed. But allow me: 1 - Wouldn't you agree that such hours in the mighty F-14, also deserve the respective US Navy ranks and insignias to go with ? 2 - I do have different pilots for different services / countries, like for instance a russian pilot for soviet / russian aircraft; also other pilot exclusivelly for US Air Force, and even other for RAF. ( Thanks to member Home Fries, for the Logbook Mod. ) -
You should see some of the modes / pages in the Hornet's DDI panels...
-
The Tomcat really looks like something made to do war (at the least for me who born in the 80's). I don't find the Hornet necessarily ugly, the F-35 on the other hand...

A doubt I do have, I think pertains to this topic regarding explosion effects. Shouldn't a tanker aircraft explosion be somewhat really big (when it by a missile for instance), visually speaking, as it is supposed to carry a large amount of fuel ?
-
Yep, expertly managing the TCS operation can be somewhat a little "complex" task. This is because in this system we have a interaction of several modes and functions, (acquisition modes / slave modes / with or without radar lock / etc). But then again, details like this complexity are what give the Tomcat part of its charisma.

Have the Hornet devs moved back from the Viper?

I wouldn't have said it better. The "pay to play" model never attracted me much; either the bird is mine, or it isn't. (But I'm the kind of guy who would buy boxed modules, if they were still produced.) On the new map I also agree, it would always be some revenue to support the business going. -
Yeah, it was pretty much it except that: - the AIM-9 was selected probably before the BVR mode if I recall coorrectly; - most of the commands were given by Joystick and Throttle. And as you can see by the pic the radar is in TWS mode...
-
It does make sense yes, but at low alttitude what about the Hornet's long fuselage strakes (LERX) and significantly lighter weight ?
-
By curiosity, do you mean the Eagle might have higher sustained turn rate at some given alttitude, for instance ?
-
I would like it.
-
Hello, Not quite sure about your doubt, but giving it a quick try - it is possible (at the least in open-beta 2.5.5.38756.) Selected BVR radar mode; select TWS mode; place target designator over the radar target; lock; and the AIM-9 seeker is cued to the TWS radar target. See red circle at radar screen in the pic.

[NO BUG] Mirror completely missing after Blackout

Hahaaa ! Nothing personal, I admit on that situation we were very close to crashing into the sea - and besides, he (Jester) even made some cumpliments on my landings once (something like "feeling like a sofa" or something). Also couldn't avoid to mock with the guy which pissed its pants, because "the MiG-28 had a radar lock on them". ... but you should see my opinion on Iceman. https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=196159&page=14 -
