Activating the TACAN for the carrier I believe is already an action under 'Advanced waypoint Actions', Agree the lights go off far too quickly, In real life surely they would stay on when recovery of aircraft is in progress, rather than switching on/off for each individual landing approach.

Latest update trouble... again
Silversmith replied to tempemonkey's topic in Controller & Assignment Bugs
Repair done, only ran for a few seconds then reported 'Successful'. Had no impact on the controls, . So I've manually redone and re-saved them again. Lets see if they now stay stable for a while. Fingers crossed. -

Latest update trouble... again

Flippin'Ek. After My binds were fixed yesterday, (I posted in this thread to say Hooray.. now working) . Today first time I ran DCS F18 they were TRASHED again. Hadn't touched anything since I flew yesterday. So I loaded the previously saved good profile that worked yesterday from the controls screen and again NO EFFECT, still trashed. Seems that DCS is randomly loading/not loading controller profiles / randomly trashing profiles EVEN though there has been no update since it last worked ok. I fear I am going to have to ABANDON the DCS F18 for some weeks to allow (hopefully) things to get sorted out, I simply haven't got the time to manually reset all my binds every day, and without working binds its is UNFLYABLE. Extra info. EXTRA INFO I notice that TODAY when the problem re-occurred that the ORDER the devices appear in the columns on the Controls screen has changed, Yesterday the order was KEYBOARD THROTTLE THRUSRMASTER WARTHOG JOYSTICK THRUSTMASTER WARTHOG RUDDER (hex device address) MOUSE Today the order of the columns has changed on the controls screen to KEYBOARD JOYSTICK THRUSTMASTER WARTHOG THROTTLE THRUSRMASTER WARTHOG RUDDER (hex device address) MOUSE and many of the bindings from yesterday, which worked, have vanished/are wrong today. No devices were replugged (for the Thrustmaster setup each controller is a distinct USB device), but the PC was rebooted overnight. Could it be that DCS is mapping actual windows devices to 'controller roles' in the bindings based on the device ADDRESS (which of course can vary with every boot, windows loves indirection) rather than to the device NAME in Windows? I have also noticed that the OPEN BETA and the RELEASE version of DCS show the devices in a different column order on the controls screen -
Now here is a Bizarre thing. Many of my modules bindings were broken again after the hotfix. So Starting with the F18 I started to manually reset them all. I saved the profile several times whilst I did this, each time I got the usual message saying 'xxxx.lua file already exists, do you want to replace it. I answered YES of course. BUT the last time I did some updates (removed the last of the duplicate/invalid entries from the Hotfix for the Hornet) and pressed SAVE PROFILE it gave a message I've never seen before that said 'Profile FA18-C has been updated, Save changes Yes or No'. I pressed YES. And instantly ALL my old profiles for all my modules were restored to their correct status, so I didn't have to re-update any of the others, even though after the hotfix they were corrupted. I can't explain that at all, but its saved me hours of re-binding work ! HOORAY I'M FLYING AGAIN !

I wonder, could the problem be the Devs are forgetting that a single control binding lua file can , and by default will, contain the bindings for ALL the modules installed? If they are assuming each lua file has only ONE module's bindings in it their data conversion/migration may be faulty. Pure unwarranted speculation, but you never know.
-
.. oh thanks for looking at the problem .. I'm not ungrateful, just frustrated as are many others having to spend hours redoing my binds every update.
-
Never seen anything to say thats where the file HAS to be … anyway if you have lots of modules are you suggesting you have to have a copy of the bindings in EVERY distinct module's folder? Thats why mine are in the top level folder, because ALL the bindings for ALL the modules (I have many) are in the same diff.lua file, which is as far as I can see the default where selecting SAVE PROFILE puts them. Regardless of that (which may explain why the file was deleted, though I didn't think you deleted anything from the saved games folders on updates) , when a file is specifically LOADED surely wherever it is loaded from the bindings should be imported. The LOAD PROFILE screen allows you to navigate to any folder to select the file. But the LOAD seems to have no effect. I specifically tried putting my AAdif.lua file in Saved Games/Open Beta/Config/Input/joystick/FA-18C_hornet and the LOAD PROFILE still does not import the bindings, leaving the broken bindings unchanged.

Of course I fixed the bindings broken after the original update last week since DCS WORLD was unflyable without. I backed up those redone control settings. I had saved the fixed settings using the SAVE option on the control bindings screen into file c:\users\<username>\Saved Games\DCS.openbeta\AAdif.lua. All was then fine UNTIL the hotfix was applied today After the hotfix that AAdif.lua no longer exists in the c:\users\<username>\Saved Games\DCS.openbeta folder. Copying a saved copy back in, then taking the LOAD option from the settings / controls screen to load the restored AAdif.lua appeared to have no effect whatsoever, controls remained unchanged and broken with many duplicated bindings, and some bindings against non-existent buttons (e.g. against the Rudder pedal device). (I have a Thrustmaster HOTAS Warthog Stick and Throttle, and Thrustmaster pedals)

The lua controls mapping file in Saved Games was deleted by the Hotfix. I copied it back in from a backup copy taken before the update, and took the LOAD option from the bindings screen. Ii appeared to have no effect, mappings still broken afterwards. I then loaded a different (older) backup from a different folder, and likewise that appeared to have no effect, the 'broken' bindings on the Settings/Controls page never changed after either load. Its as if the file was't being loaded.
-
And mine too .. my custom bindings lua file has been deleted by the hotfix, no longer exists in the folder. Restoring my backed up file (alwys back it up before an update as ED suggest) had no effect, bindings still trashed. Looks like a complete manual re-set up of all my modules bindings AGAIN (takes hours for all the modules).
-
Hot fix today seems once again to have trashed up my bindings. I only fixed them all again last week. As before have duplicate assignments, and totally daft assignments (e.g. buttons mapped for Thrustmaster rudder pedals which don't have buttons). Lets hope with the changes in the hotfix FUTURE updates after today won't cause the same problems. Oh well, back to manually setting up the binds AGAIN for all my modules.

Apologies, I saw WARTHOG so assumed the Q was about the A10 which is what I was referring to !

No need to change the Controller settings. Its done within the aircraft. In the STAT DDI page you can set the Slew rate. Display the STAT page, click on the NEXT PAGE button ( top left button), then the down arrow to highlight THROTTLE. The Slew rate is then displayed on the right. Enter the new slew rate on the UFC (I use 7.5) and press the DDI button next to the displayed current slew rate. You should then probably do the same for the MAVERICK slew rate which is on the MAV DDI page, and is set in the same way by entering the new rate on the UFC , then pressing the Slew rate DDI button on the MAV page. I use 7.5 for both TDC slew and Mav slew rates on my Warthog HOTAS. HOpe this helps.

REVELATION : IT departments do make errors. but should NEVER NEVER NEVER make the same error twice, let alone MANY times, each time causing major disruption to the customer, and worst of all appearing to not care they are doing it. I HAVE SACKED STAFF FOR LESS. So don't 'seriously doubt' what I say, come and work for me and see how long before I sack you for causing unacceptable disruption to customers.

I should say (before anyone else mentions it) I DID follw the usual ED advice and back up my controller mappings before the update. Restoring them after the update had messed up my bindings did NOTHING, they were still messed up after I restored the backup in the same way (multiple keys/buttons bound to functions at random, same button mapped to more than one function, other mappings I had deliberately BLANKED appearing again. Also I notice that the ORDER in which devices appear in the mapping screen changes randomly after updates. I use KEYBOARD, THRUSTMASTER WARTHOG JOYSTICK, THRUSTMASTER WARTHOG THROTTLE, THRUSTMASTER RUDDER PEDALS and MOUSE. But after an update the order the devices appear in on the screen changes at random on those occasions when the update has messed up the bindings (and differs between Release version and Open Beta). SO I end up having to remap everything which is a total pain when you have multiple DCS modules to do the remapping for, and the 'Backup' approach doesn't work (probably because the device order changes randomly). No I haven't replugged my devices by the way.

Mine are TOTALLY SCREWED UP again. Its really SHODDY release control by ED messing up binding, seemingly at random. They really need to sort themselves out, this is VERY basic stuff that any IT newbie developer should be able to deal with. There is no reason whatsoever why bindings should change UNLESS ED specifically notify which ones as part of the release notes. I seriously have to worry about the lack of professionalism of ED in this area (And I speak as an IT professional with 30 yrs experience including being my organisations release manager for 10 of those years.) BE ASHAMED ED.

That method worked fine for me too.

Where do the files go (installation above does not specify what to put where)?

On the hornet is it possible to switch the airspeed displayed on the HUD between True/Indicated/Ground speed? I know on the F16 that is possible. I assume the DCS hornet is showing IAS? On the DCS hornet at High altitude I always ignore the displayed airspeed and use the mach display.

The Manual is pretty specific.. you must use the LEFT MFD, not the right

For the Oculus rift they are designed to allow you to still wear your glasses. I didn't find that particularly comfortable although it did work. So I purchased a set of prescription insert lenses which are really good (and I'm VERY short sighted). There are several suppliers if you search the weird wide web. I believe they are available for the Vive as well.
