  1. Its the RWR symbology in the HUD. Look on the EWR MFD page, there is a button for toggling the symbols on or not on the HUD. AE is an Aegis naval radar, 49 is a type 49 destroyer . The lines show you the direction and the length of the line the threat level.
  2. 320 kts. Neither of us in afterburner. I notice if I'm in the Rio seat Iceman is constantly flicking the throttle between Idle and Mil. Maybe that's what AI pilots do :joystick:!
  3. I must be misunderstanding you? The JHMS is projected onto the helmet visor, it CANNOT move independently of your head/camera view. (that's what the '..HMS' stands for HEAD MOUNTED SIGHT).
  4. should say … Same ting does NOT happen if the same CAP with same duration is flow entirely by AI pilots, only occurs if one pilot is a client/player.
  5. I regularly fly a 60 min CAP mission orbiting 50 miles from the carrier with an AI wingman. Random threats may (or may not) turn up. Usually at the end of the CAP station time I have 40-50% fuel remaining, so an easy romp back to the carrier. But my AI wingman calls Bingo and usually crashes out of fuel before we get back. Seems to happen on any missing involving an AI wingman. Anyone else seeing this? Don't understand why, if flying the same track , the AI seems to use fuel at twice the rate I do.
  6. Careful tuning of the pitch curve helps a lot, experiment until you can sustain max turn rate at the stick deflection you naturally apply Then allow a bit extra . (The required curve will be different for everyone.. depends how you handle the stick)
  7. It should work by default once you've switched on the JHMS using the JHMS power knob, it appears in your field of view wherever you are looking. No special commands to use it other than the power/on/off knob.
  8. That was changed, you have to take a STT lock to get info now. This whole area is under change currently, check Wags' posts in Hornet Mini Updates thread. Sensor Depress seems to do nothing at all for me, have to use TDC depress.
  9. Looks to me as if at the Beta last update the Memory usage for DCS at least doubled. I was having all sorts of issues with slow loading, poor frame rates, random crashes, graphics shutdown to black screen (having to reboot PC) after the update. But after experimenting when I increased my Page File to Fixed 32Gb (was 16 to match RAM) all my problems vanished. i7-8700k, MSI Ge-force GTX 1080TI GAMING, SSD x 2 , 16Gb DDR3 memory, Oculus Rift.
  10. I uninstalled and then reinstalled the F14B. Now the radio problem has gone away for me. Must have been a bad install the first time.
  11. Radios not working for me either. Tried everything, checked bindings, checked special options. I can issue a comms command on the appropriate radio tuned to the correct channel, and can hear my pilot's voice speak over the radio and see the text corresponding to that on the screen, but I never get any response. e.g. If I issue a Flight formation change I can see and hear the command being issued, but get no response, and my wingmen do not change formation. Happens the same for ALL communications calls. Its as if I'm talking to myself. No problems in any other DCS module.
  12. I have the same issue. Thrustmaster Warthog Stick & Throttle. I can bind the 'Rio Cockpit' to any button and it works fine, also works when the default 2 on the keyboard is pressed. Pilot cockpit shows as bound to a button, but does not function irrespective of which button is bound. Keyboard 1 key works ok and is only way to return to Pilot cockpit from Rio pit.
  13. Confirm it works fine for me too on all Caucasus and Persion Gulf. Only recent change ? I notice is on the HUD where the distance to the Tacan station was previously shown as STN xx.x it now shows as TKR xx.x
  14. I find it does light on a REQUEST LANDING call , only stays on for a couple of minutes though. So could be lighting, then off again if an INBOUND call is issued more than a couple of minutes from the carrier.
  15. Column of 15 T55s + 1 Shilka in the centre. I expect to take out every time in a single pass, 30 degree dive from 6,000 ft, 400ft interval, Hof 1200ft, CCIP along the length of the column which seems reasonable. Aim point about 5 tank lengths early (depends on the speed of the column.) Only thing that doesn't seem 'right' is the interval spacing, which always seems far less than actually set. I estimate it gives about Half of the specified spacing. I notice these days the tanks no longer scatter when attacked which is a shame. Just for a change and a bit of sniping practice I sometimes take out the AAA with a maverick first from a distance then release the 97s (still in a single pass). I will use the TGP to locate the column from a long distance so plenty of time to set up the pass and identify the AAA unit. I suspect 3 x 97s would be enough, but that would unbalance the plane.

    Mosquito

Of the many aircraft types my father flew the Moissie was his all time favourite (flew it with 305 Sqn RAF).
  17. 08:30 GMT Update is now available on the servers … I'm upgrading now. 7033Mb
  18. No problem with Thrustmaster Warthog stick. Rather than use a dead-zone I use a curved response to allow fine movements around centre stick and larger as the stick moves off centre. Apologies if a really stupid Q, but you are not in auto-hover are you?
  19. JHMS is really great. Just crept up on a 4 ship of Mig 29s from behind with radar silent and Boom, Boom, Boom, Boom. 4 quick easy Aim 9X kills and they never saw me coming. Finally can take on a SU27 in an IR dogfight on equal terms.
  20. In Oculus rift VR, after switching on JHMS the sight only appears in the RIGHT eye, make it appear very strange. Should be easy to reproduce , just switch on JHMS whilst in VR
  21. I seem to recall there is not a standard 'pre built' loadout with Aim 120s, so you may need to create a new custom loadout in the mission planner. Then you can add 120B or 120Cs manually, then save the loadout. Have youn tried that?
  22. The editor doesn't show where the Player planes will actually spawn, that is decided at spawn time, it just generically plonks the icon in the middle of the carrier. . You can specifically place static objects (e.g. planes.. remember to LINK them to the carrier unit when you place them so the carrier doesn't leave them behind !). If you place the static objects BLOCKING the normal player spawn position in front of the Island (which are a pain.. very hard to manoeuvre to the cat from there) the player planes will spawn at the next UNBLOCKED spawn location (e.g. behind cat 3/4). So you can gain some control of where you will spawn.
  23. Ah.. I see.. Mig 29 fired a R-73 at my wingman. My Aim120C hit his missile a second after he fired it. He was killed by the fragments of his destroyed missile. Thats what I call detailed damage modelling. Well done DCS !! (Can I count the Kill ??? !!)
  24. In a recent mission in the Hornet I thought I had shot down 2x Mig 29 with Aim 120Cs (not often I hit anything with those !) . But when I looked at the TACVIEW analysis I had a surprise. The 2nd Mig29 SHOT ITSELF DOWN WITH ITS OWN R-73. Anyone else seen this happen?
  25. I believe DASS on the Typhoon also does detect IR missiles, again I assume that would be by the missile's own IR signature from its propulsion system/air friction. That said if properly employed most IR missiles are short range with a correspondingly short flight time, so eyeball coupled with good situational awareness will always be best defence. Of course to fire an IR missile (even in the Hornet) you don't have to have a Radar lock first, so you may well get no Radar lock warning on the RWR, Particularly with the HMS which is coupled to the 9x's IR sensor, so the missile sensor looks where the HMS is looking. (same for Typhoon with 9X or ASRAAM , and ditto for Russian aircraft that have a HMS and Archer). Or with a 9M you can acquire IR lock using missile sensor boresight or scan without radar. In DCS of course the Gazelle is a nice example where IR missiles are used without radar.. and the Gazelle is seriously LETHAL as an A to A asset for low altitude stealthy interception.!
