In the interests of science ( and enabling the flashlight feature ) I "upgraded" to 1903. Yes, WMR is borked for Reverb DCS in 1903 - SDE is back with a vengeance at the same settings that had previously been used (SteamVR = 180 %). Subjectively no better than 1440 res headsets. And quite frankly switching on the flashlight and seeing the dog leaping up at me like a Megalodon launching from the depths was not the VR experience I was looking for !

Admittedly it's been at least 5 years since I last bought a HOTAS, but inflation has not doubled the price of everything during that time. .Does the new product feature double the functionality ? Is it made of higher quality materials than the Warthog ? Of course not, therefore it is far from nonsense to question such a vast price hike. All that's changed in the last 5 years is that the likes of Virpil and VKB have come along at a higher price point catering for a niche market, and Thrustmaster have decided to position themselves accordingly. Too bad, the market for 200 euro grips is a lot smaller than the market for 200 euro sticks. Time will tell if this commercial strategy is a success or failure. The real shame in all this is that the basic concept of 1 base multiple grips is a good one,

200 euros just for a handle ? Can get a whole X52 Pro for less than that ! At that price I'd expect a whole joystick (including base), not just the bleeping grip. Time for a reality check, TM......

Stupid question.... but if DCS mirrors the helmet display onto the monitor, does that mean it is only rendering the lower of VR headset / monitor resolution ? It just struck me that although I have a Reverb, my monitor is only 1440p and in DCS I cannot change the resolution beyond this. From the settings screenshots of those saying it's sooo clear - looks like they also have 4K monitors attached ?

I think also it makes a difference what you're comparing it with. If coming from Rift CV1 then yes I'd probably be enthusing how much clearer it was. Coming from a 1440x1440 per eye LCD panel - difference not so great. And yes it's entirely possible there's a seeing eye dog in the cockpit with me :)

SteamVR settings : application 100 % video custom 180 % gives resolution of 2156 x 2116 per eye. 188 % would give quite a bit more than the 2160 x 2160 per eye of the headset ? At 2156 x 2116, it doesn't look a heck of a lot different. Can make out the containers on the decks of ships in Persian Gulf. If I lean in, then I can actually read the symbology on the moving map display rather than it still being a bit blurry. Looks a tiny bit more like metal than cardboard. 9900K / RTX2080Ti./ 32Gb RAM. Video settings in DCS as per 'high' preset default. System tab - res 2560x1440. Not that that should affect VR res ?

Well, the Reverb has landed.... :) Comparing it to my old Lenovo Explorer, it's a little.....underwhelming. Possibly a little more detail on the Burj Khalifa. Maybe a slightly more weathered look when looking at the F18 LERX. But it still looks like I'm sitting in a cardboard cut out with pop up switches, rather than an all metal death dealing machine. I'm quite sure all this is because I'm not using proper settings - just left SteamVR settings as per default install 100%, let application decide, DCS at PD 1.0 and High graphics defaults ( Before you laugh too much - was concerned about blue line across the middle of the panel. Turned out to be the plastic film covering the lens that needed to be removed - doh ! ) The one thing I am noticing a lot of though is a tendency for that dark grey screen with lines radiating into the distance that you see during loading to intermittantly briefly pop up while flying. Possibly some sort of usb quirk on my system maybe. Outside of DCS, Microsoft cliff house looks fairly similar, not so much SDE as the Lenovo but by no means SDE free. In DCS - Hornet hud is lovely and clear, still finding myself leaning in a little to read the switch labels , and a bit more again to read the MFDs. In conclusion - am I happy with it ? Yes. Is it the Second Coming of VR ? Definitely not. Or at least not yet.

No Reverb for me - stuck in the middle of DPD delivery hell. Two days they've failed to even attempt delivery - not impressed.

Time to start saving for a Vive Cosmos...?

"Nightlife 2" was where it all began for me. "VR" meant sitting in the dark while playing :) -

I'll see your JFA and raise you "Fighter Pilot" on the ZX Spectrum :) Yep, computer simming has come a LOOONG way.... https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn%3AANd9GcS50RmsI_dBpcSRdD06SGfU3OHP4HyrrCzCZLzzra8m0Il6QZ5v -
Great. I can stop breathing into a paper bag and repeating " it'll be alright with a 9900K and 2080TI, it'll be alright with a 9900K and 2080TI..." :)

Don't want to come across too negative....but what's with all those dark band's when looking outside the cockpit ? Oh well, I'll find out on Friday if it's the way it's filmed or if they're really there.....
-
Mine too. Sounds suspiciously like "2 weeks" to me...... gives me time to finish downloading everything onto new gaming box !
-
Not if the expected delivery date is anything to go by. Anyone would think there's been a run on these things ... :)
-
Cheers, that was the most expensive post I've read today :) (... ordered... )
-
My thoughts exactly. A standalone F-16 throttle quadrant sure would be nice for all those single engined SIM aircraft....

+1 for DCS: Apache Been waiting 15 years for a true successor to Jane's Longbow 2. The wait continues....

An F-16 ? In DCS ? Darn right I pre-ordered.....

Upload a picture of your face and a credit card number showing to the internet ? What could possibly go wrong..... ? There are various websites that offer similar service for free. Just think very carefully about what personal details are visible on the card you are holding in front of your face, or it may cost you a lot more than $4 if the app / website is not what it seems....

What smell would we need for DCS? Check this out

I don't know, the lengths some people will go to trying to get an HP Reverb.... https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-48301352

HP UK sales office saying, " not currently available, expected within the next 4 weeks"

Ok I'll bite.... Betterment is made up of 6 different individual letters.. B, E, T, R, M, N Stutter contains 3 of those same different letters. So 50% of betterment = stutter. Think I can wait a whole lot longer for that 50 % :)
