  1. i think you miss understood what i was saying. i was trying to make the point that claiming the tomcat is only a good dogfighter againts mig21s and 27s isnt correct
  2. They used f-16s and f-18s as adversary aircraft from the late 80s on. I would imagine that if they were that advantageous, the f-14 pilots wouldnt have graduated topgun. I dont think they said “thanks for coming to top gun but your 70s tech tomcat is no match for mig 29s and su27s so we will only train against older aircraft.”
  3. this gun kill at 1:01 is legit... haha :pilotfly: I didnt see any TCS footage, did i miss it? i am really interested in that system
  4. Park an AI F14 behind my turkey and see if i can blow it off the deck with my jet wash.
  5. Nice:thumbup:
  6. I wonder what the Minimum altitude will be for a safe recovery...:dunno:
  7. Im in the same boat. They may only be different on paper. But im glad ill get to find out. If i keep getting jet washed out in the A I’ll switch to the B haha
  8. I think its good to have the A and B. It shows alot for the devs to spend the time to do both with pfm and sell them for the same price. It would be one thing to do one in pfm and the other not. It will be nice to fly them both and make an assessment on your own. All these modules have quirks and some people love them and others dont. Might as well get a broader market with 2 variations.
  9. Ive read that with the wings swept that it wont spin. But i dont think this information was available in 1977. obviously low speed high AOA the wings are extended though. if it starts to spin in game, manually sweeping the wings should correct this, in theory  Also maybe some of the reason the B is being released first. shouldnt have to worry as much about it. the A will be the tough one to fly.
  10. Taken from "Grumman f-14 Tomcat" by Doug Richardson. The first part of the paragraph says; "the pilot selects and prepares the weapon to be..." I have seen this said in a few other publications also, i will have to dig them up. but once again they are only mentions of the computer being able to, no explanation of how it works or anything. Maybe heatblur has more info. i dont really care if its in the DCS version or not just an interesting option.
  11. Ive read in multiple publications that the computer can fire the missles also. But i have not seen how this system is implemented or used. They just make mention that it is able to do so. I wonder if we will have that option from heatblur.
  12. I have been playing around a lot lately with it and i realize it feels like the f-5 doesn't turn fast. If you do a turn at 350 and pull the stick enough where you don't bleed your speed to fast, it feels slow. but then look at the replay it isn't too bad. i think its hard to have a feeling of how tight the turn is. you want to pull the stick more to turn faster but it just drops your airspeed. Multiplayer definitely helps your confidence i was in a disadvantage scissors with a f18 and was able to keep alive for a few minutes until he got bored and flew off haha
  13. How do you keep the energy up in the f5? Seems like once youve gone below 300 the speed falls off fast and you have to dive to get your speed up. At certain altitudes you dont have the option. It does turn great but it looses energy very fast.
  14. Yes they called the AI piloting Iceman. You will be able to switch back and forth at any time. I wonder if there will be a simple command system for iceman. I'm sure more info will come out soon.
  15. Hey guys not sure if any one has run into this, but i have been flying the f-5 on 1.5 for a while playing the missions and multiplayer and my x52 has worked great. i bought the f-5 BFM campaign last weekend and in 2.0 it acts like half of the buttons aren't programed. im running the same profile with the same key strokes but they wont work in 2.0. if i use the keyboard it will work. but some keys on the keyboard wont. i verified that the key binding in dcs are the same as what i have mapped but still nothing. thanks in advance
  16. i have been flying the f-5 in 1.5 for a while. when I tried to run it on 2.0 this weekend, the nose wheel steering doesnt work unless i use the mouse and click it on the stick in the cockpit. i have checked the keys and i have them mapped correctly to my x52 pro. but even if i hit "S" on the keyboard it wont steer. if i launch 1.5 works perfectly. i havent had any issues going between 1.5 and 2.0 with a-10c. any feedback is appreciated.
  17. Wow Great find. i wonder what else is in that shoe box... I wonder who all those Japanese guys are that are in the credits?
