BFT (Basic Flight Training Qual) Mission How to go on?
rickberry49 replied to rickberry49's topic in Problems and Bugs
got it fixed with the edit on the log book..!!! Just passed the ground handling and at the end I just quit... Next mission came up Take OFF so I guess it's fixed... Cool program... but I'm still trying to figure out how to comm with the Instructor... we have the Batumi freq for the ATC but 251 UHF did not seem to yield a response... Pretty sure I have the radio tuned and using L alt + num - to call but all I get on comms is the ATC list and opt for startup?? Will try again and see what happens.. Instructor needs to be a little more compassionate when he tells me I forgot to turn off the Pitot heat and fails me... I was a flight Deck Trouble shooter and plane captain in the Navy in VF143 F-4J's BIG E... they never shut off all the crap they were supposed to...!!! Fun anyway....!!! Happy Hunting... -
BFT (Basic Flight Training Qual) Mission How to go on?
rickberry49 replied to rickberry49's topic in Problems and Bugs
Log book fix in above thread appears to allow me now to proceed with next mission. I made it the actual Ground Handling mission (not the practice). We'll see what happens (if and when) I pass that one...!!! The manual fix to the log book worked but I still think there is bug in the program, or else something got corrupted in my log book (don't know how) but in any case we will press on...!!! Stay tuned... -
BFT (Basic Flight Training Qual) Mission How to go on?
rickberry49 replied to rickberry49's topic in Problems and Bugs
Video exactly what I did except.... Watched the video... exactly same as what I did except my first present mission from the menu was the PRACTICE MISSION...!!! I completed it successfully and got the PASSING grade but then he came back on and said I did POORLY... STILL IN THE END OF THE MISSION??? When I come back to the BFT campaign I keep getting the PRACTICE MISSION PRESENTED I can't get to the actual qual mission thru the main menu... or any other missions for that matter. see attached... -
BFT (Basic Flight Training Qual) Mission How to go on?
rickberry49 replied to rickberry49's topic in Problems and Bugs
You don't have to tell me... but the issue is.... I PASSED at the final shutdown but then a minute later before I had a chance to exit the mission the instuctor came back on and said I did POORLY (something I did here many times before) but Once you get a PASSING grade I don't expect the next communication (still in the end of the mission) to say I did POORLY... there is a bug in the program I just wanted to let someone know... Unless I should exit the mission immediately after he says I PASSED... but that is pretty dumb... -
BFT (Basic Flight Training Qual) Mission How to go on?
rickberry49 replied to rickberry49's topic in Problems and Bugs
Here is my current condition Here is my GUI for the Campaigns... see attached After selecting basic flight the next window is the same one I passed. Should it continue to the next lesson??? I can access the training MIZ's by using the folder paths but I should think the campaign should present the next lesson once I passed the previous.. (not withstanding the bug where he says I PASSED then a bit later says I did poorly and need more practice... I'll move on with manual selection of the next mission (since I did pass) but perhaps a fix is in order..? Thanks so much for replying to us newbees...!!!:smilewink: -
BFT (Basic Flight Training Qual) Mission How to go on?
rickberry49 replied to rickberry49's topic in Problems and Bugs
The BFT came with my purchase of A10, now running 1.5.3.52478 (took a while to find the itty bitty text in the far right bottom corner...) Should be in the settings GUI or somewhere prominant. In any case it all works fine, took several tries to get thru it completely but when I finally got the final PASSING grade after a minute or so the voice came back on and said I failed...? I think there is a bug in the BFT campaign (I could be wrong) or else he just got used to me failing and failed me again ( even after he gave me a PASSING GRADE). I'll look into the info you gave me and see if that helps to move on in the training.... Stay tuned...!! Happy hunting...!!! -
I've FINALLY COMPLETED the Ground Handling Practice Mission in the BFT Missions collection. Got a GOOD JOB CADET, you are ready for your check ride... Then after a minute or so, I was still sitting on the ramp making notes... and I got the message "You did poorly cadet" (one I got many times...prior to my successful completion) and said I needed more practice...?? The Instructor is not a nice guy, really picky but I did complete the mission successfully and he said so... But... When I restart the BFT mission I would expect to see the next Mission or the actual CHECK RIDE mission mentioned at the end of the practice, but instead I get the same training practice mission. I can look at the training dir under campaigns and there are 2 files for Ground Handling: A-10C - BFT01 Ground Handling.miz < this i assume is the check ride A-10C - BFT01 Practice Ground Handling.miz < this i assume is the practice What am I missing...? can't find anything in the briefing on how to proceed after success in the previous mission. Great JOB on the mission program, but how do we continue to next mission???? Is this something I should direct to the author of the mission?

How to set a pre-defined view and zoom level in the cockpit
rickberry49 replied to rickberry49's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
OK found the Keyboard.diff.lua and corrected the inadvertent mistake in deleting the NUM ENTER function. FYI all... I use a program called BEYOND COMPARE http://scootersoftware.com/ It compares 2 files and shows the diffs in a great GUI... I think it cost me $25 but I've used it forever and it has save my butt a million times. Whenever I edit a system file I make a revision copy ie Keyboard.diff.lua >> Keyboard.diff.lua.r00 Then I proceed to edit the Keyboard.diff.lua version and save it. If I want to see what changes were made COMPARE shows me, both what I've done and any changes by the system, In this case DCS removed my NUM ENTER key ( thru my dumb mistake ) but none the less the change was very easy to find... Well worth a look...!!! In any case I'm still faced with hitting 2 keys to get back to the view & zoom desired... At least now I have the zoom I need (a little closed than the system default)... Will press on to find a single key solution... Cheers... and happy hunting... check out the COMPARE program well worth a look... -
How to set a pre-defined view and zoom level in the cockpit
rickberry49 replied to rickberry49's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Now I've done it.... Trying to combine NUM 5 + NIM ENTER I've managed to bugger up the NUM ENTER, it no longer returns to the saved zoom level... NUM 5 brings back the view direction but NUM ENTER does nothing to the zoom level. So if I change view and zoom in NUM 5 brings me back to straight out the HUD but what ever zoom level I was at is no longer reset by NUM ENTER ??? Tried running the snap view routine again but now it's buggered up. Can't figure out where the NUM ENTER key is defined ??? -
How to set a pre-defined view and zoom level in the cockpit
rickberry49 replied to rickberry49's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
I got the view and zoom saved to the default but.... It takes 2 key strokes to return to the saved view... NUM 5 gets me looking in the right direction ie straight out the hud NUM ENTER restores the saved zoom level... Better ....!!!! but.... There has to be a simple way of combining NUM5 + NUM ENTER into a single button on the stick??? -
How to set a pre-defined view and zoom level in the cockpit
rickberry49 replied to rickberry49's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
If I use the combination of NUM 5 (sets the view direction out the front thru the HUD) and then NUM ENTER key (sets the zoom level to cover a major portion of the front console, and a bit of the left and right panels). This is probably fine for you young wipper snappers... but for this old fart I need to be zoomed more into the HUD so I can see the info better. I'd like to establish the view direction and zoom level I need then save this setting (somehow) and map it to my FIRE C (BTN5) on the Saitek Joy stick. I use the mouse to zoom and pan around the cockpit and view outside but being able to snap back quickly to my primary view would be a great help. The way I do it now is to NUM 5 then NUM Enter then NUM * to zoom in a bit on the HUD. Three key strokes to get back to a desired view is a bit much for us old farts...!! Having the ability to string multiple commands together and map to a single key or button would greatly simplify many repetitive tasks that occur over the course of a flight or combat situation. Is it possible to make this setting in a LUA file somewhere? I'm not a GEEK programmer but have done some coding. So if this is possible please include details. I have, so far, been able to change the daytime hud color to BLACK and the night color to a brighter RED/PINK that also works well for daylight. So I do have some (very limited) skills here. I also do have the NOTEPAD++ editor for LUA files. Thanks again for any and all replies or suggestions??? -
How to set a pre-defined view and zoom level in the cockpit
rickberry49 replied to rickberry49's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Thanks for the feedback!!!! However, the directions from http://en.wiki.eagle.ru/wiki/Snap_views#Customising_the_Default_View need to be updated or ??? the View.lua file in : C:\DCS_World\Config\View does not contain the command string UseDefaultSnapViews = true Nor can I find any file with this command line in it. I did find the command ["userSnapView"] = True, ( I changed it to False ) in my user file C:\Users\Rick\Saved Games\DCS\Config\Options.lua I was able to change the default view for NUM 5 but..... it only saves the view vector and not the zoom level. So when I try to snap back to the desired view, I do get the direction OK but if I was zoomed in on something I must then manually reset my zoom level to return to the desired view. In the heat of battle the less I need to diddle with views the better. So either the directions need to be updated, or I don't understand (most likely the case) I suppose a suggestion or ?? to the developers would be to provide a way to link several commands onto a single button. ie Left MCFD osb 18 then OSB 18 again to select a MAV then Right MCFD MAV to be ready to slew it to target. For now I would just be happy to be able to return to a pre-set view direction AND ZOOM level. Any other suggestions, options, etc... greatly appreciated...!! Happy hunting.. -
When looking around (cockpit or outside) I use NUM 5 (VIEW CENTER) to recenter the view looking straight out the cockpit and follow that with NUM ENTER to reset the zoom (ZOOM NORMAL). I have NUM5 mapped to a button on my joystick (Saitek 52) and this works most of the time but I have had strange results where the reset view is looking down way to much and the zoom is in way to much... Is there a way to define the center view AND zoom level I want then save this view configuration as the DEFAULT CENTER VIEW or (any view port) I'm not fussy and then map this view command to a single button on the joysitck? OR can we combine commands into a single button on the joystick (ie. create a multi command aka MACRO)? In panic situations it is nice to be able to snap right back to a front looking view at a predefined zoom value... Any ideas are welcome, but details please, new user and not comfortable with editing LUA files yet. Thanks in advance I posted this in the obscure question STICKY thread but most of that dates back to 2010 and some 4000 posts??? Not sure if anyone uses that now?

Thank you so much for your help... Final question.... So when you say "A lot of the discussion has moved to the new "DCS World" forums rather than module-specific." What exactly do you mean...? When I go to ED Forums I see "DCS: A-10C Warthog" when I click on that I see a bizzillion threads??? That I have spend hours looking thru... Is there a simple place, "Thread", whatever, where lost souls like me can go to post a new question?? Or do we need to find an "ACTIVE THREAD"Not sure how this whole FORUM thing works.

Also new to this whole forum thing... Looked at the DCS A10C QUESTIONS FORUM and the last post was 5-20-25 ??? apparently no one uses it any more? Have spent endless hours scanning thru posts for a manual that explains some of the less obvious settings on the Options screen. ie. Disable Aero Int, Vsync (context sensitive HELP) would be useful. Finally, while i have your skilled attention, is there a way to SIMPLY set autopilot to hold the current altitude? I've tried most of the AAP settings, tried to use the up dn arrows to trim and the beast will simply not hold altitude. What is the command name to enable and disable AP? Thanks in advance...!!!
