DCS Visrtual Cockpit for Android (iControl DCS)
rickberry49 replied to boarder2's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Please help a new user??? I have: Intel I7 - 920 @ 2.67 Ghz factory default no over clocking MSI x-58 Platinum motherboard and 6Gb Corsair 1333 DDR3 3x2Gb modules, uses PCI-2 bus Windows 7 Ultimate SP 1 64 bit Samsung 850 Pro 128GB SSD (solid state drive) for my OS and DCS 1.5 Plextor M6e Series 256Gb PCI Express 2.0 x 2 Internal SSD for DCS 2.0 & NTTR MSI G-force GTX 960 w/4Gb (this is a pci-3 card in a pci-2 buss) I have 3 NEC 2180UX 21" displays 1680x1050 and a viewsonic VA2026 20" also at 1680x1050 My desktop is spread over all 4 and I run DCS as a single window monitor across all 4 with my MFD's on the right most Viewsonic. I have finally figured out how to export the MFD's for at least a larger display, but no buttons... So my DCS display is essentially 4 monitors wide, with the MFD's on the far right Viewsonic which I have physically located in the middle and below the main 3. This works great for me and I can see the TGP great. But I would love to have the buttons MFD's working as well. Questions: Is this software for a PC with connected display monitors or just for export to Ipad and Android? What product do I need to purchase for my PC? What are the costs? I hate apple, do I need anything from them if only using a PC? Does your software disable the existing MFD's in the cockpit for better response? Thanks in advance -
I tried it with a moving target locked on in Point mode from the TGP, Pretty cool to fly around and see this beam of light tracking your target. Fly down the beam right to your target....!!!

T.16000M FCS Hotas worthy for the A-10c?
rickberry49 replied to twistking's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
I had a Satek before going to the TM. Did not have any real probs with the Saitek X52, but having ALL the buttons on the TM where they are in the A10 and working the same way made a huge diff in flying missions. I still spend too much time trying to pick things on the dash and would love to add a touch control monitor with at least the MFD's and UFD on it. That to me is the most pure version of flying. Please keep us posted on your TRACK IR experience. My worry is track ir will get me sick after playing for as long as I do. -
New User Hardware Config - Hope this helps
rickberry49 replied to rickberry49's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
I am convinced that any game, especially DCS needs an SSD if that game needs to access the disk during game play. If the WHOLE game can be loaded into memory then SSD will only help the load times and for DCS this is significant... Graphics card will dictate how much detail you wish to play with and frame rate depending on the number of monitors you run. I believe ANY I7 processor with at least 12 gig on the MB will run DCS given the constraints above. For me the next build ( coming Xmas 2016 ) will include an SSD for the OS only and then a PCI-3 SSD for the games, and finally a standard HDD for all other non-intensive apps and data stores. I don't believe the super high end processors are where you should put your $$$. A 1080 class graphics card is the most I would use. Put your $$ into the fastest SSD's you can find cuz from my tests the drive is hammered by 2.0 for what I guess is the terrain. Which by the way is awesome form what I've seen so far.. Hope this discussion will help any new comers...!!! questions or suggestions welcome...!! -
For any new users trying to decide on hardware, I hope this will help. I started with: Intel I7 - 920 @ 2.67 Ghz factory default no over clocking uses PCI-2 bus MSI x-58 Platinum motherboard and 6Gb Corsair 1333 DDR3 3x2Gb modules Windows 7 Ultimate SP 1 64 bit I installed a Samsung 850 Pro 128GB SSD (solid state drive) for my OS and DCS 1.5 I'm running a MSI G-force GTX 960 w/4Gb (this is a pci-3 card in a pci-2 buss) I have 3 NEC 2180UX 21" displays 1680x1050 and a viewsonic VA2026 20" also at 1680x1050 My desktop is spread over all 4 and I run DCS as a single window monitor across all 4 with my MFD's on the right most Viewsonic. The above config runs my DCS 1.5 A-10 just fine, very smooth, frame rates above 50 with most of the display settings maxed out. Water is set to low. I rarely see a stutter or hiccup. This is NOT a top end system but it runs DCS 1.5 just fine (pretty cool across all 4) Then I added DCS 2.0 to run NTTR, since I didn't have enough room on the SSD I loaded 2.0 on my 500GB mechanical hard drive. (DON'T DO THIS....!!!) The new install of 2.0 ran like CRAP...!!! (sorry ED). It stuttered badly even with all settings at the BARE MINIMUMs. And most of the time is simply hung and I had to use TASK MANAGER to kill it. Read a bunch of threads and everyone has a different idea, and all wanted to know my config??? My point was that my CONFIG (whatever it was) ran 1.5 just fine and the only difference was that 2.0 was installed on a mechanical hard drive. So why the huge difference in performance??? Some said I needed a good graphics card ( I have one and it runs 1.5 just fine....!!!) Others said 6Gb was not enough and I needed more memory (but 1.5 runs just fine...!!!) I expected a longer load time, and after all it is still Beta software. I also noticed that memory started to peak at my max of 6Gb. So as some suggested I added another 8Gb 2x4Gb Corsair memory (now 14Gb) but performance did not improve, only very slightly if I just flew around for a bit. I also noticed that 2.0 levels off at around 7 - 7.4 Gb of memory when running... So just adding more memory was not the solution. So does the hard drive where DCS is loaded make THAT MUCH OF A DIFF....??? YOU BETCHA...!!! Looking at disk access my Hard Drive was pegging out at 100%. So this tells me that DCS 2.0 is VERY disk intensive (my guess is loading the terrain which must be huge...) AND a mechanical drive just can't keep up. So.... I finally added a Plextor M6e Series 256Gb PCI Express 2.0 x 2 Internal SSD and moved my DCS 2.0 install to it. NOW IT RUNS LIKE 1.5...!!!!!, I've increased the display settings and I get a stutter only once in awhile. The bottom line... I would expect that: Any system today with a PCI-3 buss, 14Gb of memory, and a I7 processor will run DCS just fine. Just be sure to install it on a SSD and NOT a mechanical drive. I have always put my OS on a dedicated drive so a 125Gb SSD for your OS and then a PCI SSD for the applications ie DCS would put the graphics loads on two different busses this is how I'm running, it's smooth and well worth the cost of the drives. but not that expensive. Depending on how many monitors you want to use any 970 and above graphics card should work just fine as well. MY Gtx 960 running on a PCI-2 buss is limited by the buss since it is a PCI-3 card. I would expect this card to run even better if I install it on a PCI-3 Mother board. Hope this helps any newbees looking for hardware help... Comments always welcome...!!!

I agree it's not a ram issue I bumped up to 14 gigabytes and didn't really see any difference. Things smoothed out a bit after just flying around but it's still shaky at best in 2.0 12 - 14 gig should be more than enough for just about any game the rest I believe is in the graphics card more memory there the better. Not sure if Crossfire or dual cards would Be worth the investment. I'm just going to wait until they get 2.5 released and then we'll take it up from there

See previous post.... specs included

"Gunna need a bigger boat...for 2.0" Well gang and TWEET...here it is... Tweet, thanks for all the input...!!! the bottom line is that 2.0 is much more resource intensive than 1.5... So given the following conditions on my system, (attached is the specs, with MSI GTX960 4Gb overclocked GDDR5 Graphics card running 3 NEC 2180 UX and 1 Viewsonic VA 2026w for the MFD's I have 1.5 running great with no issues. I installed 2.0 on the HDD (lack of space on SSD) you really need SSD for ALL DCS installs..!!!! This made the load times of 2.0 painfully slow. OK I can accept that since it's a HDD. I added another 2 sticks of 2x4 ie 8GB of CORSAIR DDR3 1333 Mhz along with the 6 GB I was running 1.5 on with no problems. Loading 1.5 and just flying around it takes up 4.41 GB and I had most other background stuff running like TWEET... in this configuration I did not see any real diff in 1.5 performance With the added memory 2.0 still stuttered badly to start (flying Nevada Takeoff) but after a while it got a bit better but still flakey and with all settings set at MINIMUM.. and the memory leveled out at around 7.09GB No where near the upper limit of 14Gb I have installed now... so memory alone is not the solution... So for all you out there planning to install NTTR and 2.0 just know that if you are running 1.5 now at it's upper limits for your system you better plan on some major additions (memory and SSD for sure) and possibly a graphics card upgrade. For me I will stay with 1.5 as my main focus (still have a ton of things to learn) and wait for 2.5 to be released with the fervent hope that they put some serious optimization time into it. Thanks again for all the input...! and Help...!!! Good flying.... this is an awesome sim...!!

Sorry if you feel I was being defensive please believe me I am not and I thank everyone for their help and assistance.. but it seems I have read many threads where someone asks a question and everyone answers with everything else but. It appears that the answers do not reflect the question at hand. I totally understand systems windows xcetera I was a cadcam computer consultant for almost 26 years. I read some previous threads where the user added extra memory and it did not appear to solve his problem? I'll reiterate my question again. If the system with Windows monitors memory disk drives excetera is running just fine with 1.5 then I would expect 2.0 to run at least reasonably well. Even considering its beta software the differences are quite dramatic. I would expect the load times to be increased coming off of a hard drive vs. Solid state. But given all that and the settings at bare minimums for 2.0 it still runs like crap. After some testing I can see that memory is probably the issue, and much more dramatically than expected. 2.0 seems to be a serious memory hog. Once again totally understandable considering its beta software. Considering the amazing programming skills of the DCS team I guess I just wasn't expecting that how much of a difference. I was looking for something that 2.0 needed that 1.5 didn't other than memory. I'll add another 6 gig to the system bringing me up to a full 12 gig of RAM. If that doesn't solve the problem then I'll just simply wait to see what 2.5 has. Either case I'll report back here if anyone else is interested to see if it made the difference or not
-
Please read the message...!!! I KNOW about monitors, graphics cards etc... and the loads BUT... I have the same exact setup (monitors etc) for 1.5 and 2.0 the ONLY difference is that 2.0 is installed on a HDD vs my SSD because of space. 1.5 (max settings) runs smooth and clean with NO issues... 2.0 with (minimum settings on everything) runs like crap and hangs up constantly. So regardless of my config (monitors etc) WHY does 1.5 run SO much cleaner than 2.0..? Yes I know it's beta so is that the reason? If so then I understand, and will simply wait until they get 2.5 released, with HOPES that they do some serious optimization. I did some tests and 1.5 loads and flatlines in memory around 3.75 GB Looking at memory for 2.0 when it loads and starts running it hits 5.5 GB and keeps climbing as the game runs, until it hangs. I have 6 GB (will be adding more) but apparently 2.0 in its current release is very resource intensive ... I guess I'll bit the bullet and add another 16 GB of memory, even though other threads reported no help by adding memory. For those interested... I'll report back with my results in a few days... Thanks for the responses, wish we could hear from one of the developers ( BTW you guys do rock!!!!) just frustrating trying to run 2.0 and expecting it to run as clean as 1.5.

All the suggestions in the link add another level of complexity and costs many of which did not solve the problem. So I ask again... Why does my system run 1.5 with all settings pretty well maxed out and no stutters or problems and 2.0 is horrible with ALL settings at minimum? The only difference is 1.5 is on the SSD and 2.0 is on the HDD (lack of space on SSD). My questions specifically are: Does 2.0 need to access the hard drive or does everything load into memory? (this would point to the PERF diff between SSD vs HDD) Is 2.0 that much larger in Memory than 1.5? if this is the case then I need to add more Memory. But previous users did this and saw no improvement. Since it's BETA software I have to assume that final optimization has not yet taken place, but will the final release of 2.5 improve this? Is 2.0 more sensitive to any specific BIOS settings (ie. hyperdrive etc..) and what should the settings be? Probably the ONLY ones who can answer these are the developers...

I just purchased NTTR and loaded 2.0 on the same system as 1.5 I have 1.5 loaded on my SSD and it runs fantastic. 3-21" Nec's on a GTX960... I had to load 2.0 onto a Hard Drive (15,000 rpm Raptor) I KNOW this will slower to load but once loaded into memory does 2.0 still need to access files on the HD?? The performance of NTTR and 2.0 is bad (at best). I have all of the settings at minimum and still it stutters badly and hangs up to where I need to use TASK MANAGER to kill the program to exit. The download and installation was successful and without a problem. I know the load times will be longer but the system runs smooth and clean with 1.5 but 2.0 is a real bummer... Anyone else seeing this?? Ideas??? Really looking forward to 2.5...!!!!

[A-10C][TOOL] Cartridger
rickberry49 replied to Gliptal's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
OK , I have downloaded the "Cartridge.zip" file and I have JSGME set to install it, but how do I run it to make the changes? I see the LUA files in the script folder but where is the program file to run to make the changes. Obviously, i'm missing something here... Thanks in advance for any detailed help. -

I suppose that asking for some basic inst is like asking the price in a Ferrari dealer, if you don't already know you shouldn't be asking. I have some understanding of many of the settings, but how do you load it into the plane's cart? -
Thank you one and all..!!! I have a 125Gb SSD running DCS 1.5 now ( I finally figured that out ) along with Prepare 3d from Lockheed Martin. Along with my OS (Win 7) that is all I want on that drive. I guess for now I'll just keep the status quo and continue to learn on 1.5 and the Cauc. and learn to build some QUICK and easy training missions for newbees. Will add a new SSD for 2.5 and start fresh from there... Thanks again to all for the help and understanding... hope any newbees got something from it as well.... BTW... If you just want to fly around the "Real World" or at least at the last satellite image Google has a flight simulator you can fly around Google Earth. Not even close to DCS or Prepare 3d for function but you can fly over the REAL world from several airports and from any spot you pick on Google earth.. Pretty cool from that perspective. Looking forward to 2.5... good flying all...!!!

From an OLD man... thanks....!!! Got it... almost... I only have about 28 gig left on my SSD and my current install is hitting 23gig...!!! so I guess I'll just have to wait for 2.5 (hope it's soon) and then purchase the NTTR. OR How much of a performance hit do you get when running from a mechanical drive vs SSD? Once in Memory I suspect they run the same, it's just getting all that code into memory that I wonder about. I have a 15,000 rpm drive as a bulk data drive that I could use for 2.0. You mention"If I buy Nevada OR NTTR" ( is NTTR another name for NEVADA OR are they separate Terrains?) On the website I can only find NEVADA, so I ASS/U/ME the test range is a sub set inside the Nevada package. If we do create another install dir for 2.0 what is the easiest way to move all the control settings and mods for my A10 to the new 2.0 install? I do use JSGME now in 1.5.
-
I'm starting to get it... thanks to all. .. If I want to fly in Nevada I can purchase Nttr, I got that now.. but do I also have to purchase DCS 2.0? Or is it going to be an upgrade or full version purchase?
-
Crap... I just fired up DCS and finally noticed the tiny rev number 1.5.3 duh.... never noticed that before ... So, can I run NTTR and Caucus or do I need two installs? Perhaps that is what I was told? Got to go now but thanks for the help and reply to last question.... Good Flying...!!!
-
That's my problem/question.... I purchased 2.0 several months ago and I think I talked with DCS technical when the NTTR came out. Somewhere in my feeble mind I remember I was told the NTTR was not supported on 2.0 yet but would be soon. The newsletter appears to confirm that now but the product site is still talking about 2.0 open alpha and NTTR. I thought I purchased a released version of 2.0 which I thought was the next logical upgrade to 1.5.
-
I have DCS 2.0 and was told, a while back, that NTTR was not compat. Just got the Newsletter and it has a package deal with A10 - NTTR - A10 Red flag... Does this mean that NTTR is now avail for 2.0? Is 2.0 the logical upgrade to 1.5 or are they functionally different? So why was NTTR released on 1.5 first? Just trying to understand the modules, and are we good to go with NTTR on 2.0?

You can get a screen capture program like SnagIT or Hypersnap or a PDF editor and just cut or snap critical sections and paste them in Word. The you can just print the critical parts and not the whole thing. You can collect the bits from each section and paste up a document that covers all the interactions for a specific function. Example, set up a couple of GBU's for drop on a couple of Mark points in a single run. After a while you'll start getting the feel of how all the systems work together... It's a long road if you have never flown before and esp with no military flight exp. It's almost like joining a frat... you have to put in a lot of time and pain to not only to learn the systems but get your joystick, throttle and keyboard set up and then the manual dexterity to run it all at once. I'm at odds with some of the purists that think everyone has to put in the time to learn this stuff... I do agree you do need to learn it but I think the authors would do themselves a big favor if they provided some focused training materials and missions that a new user could jump into and get some enjoyment as well as training right from the start... The manuals are great but they don't put together the interaction of the various systems. For that you need to check out the great job someone did on You Tube putting together the Tutorials channel... Awesome work.... https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC90p6sHsL5PN_urMRz65NyA
-
Thanks... !!!! I don't think my SSD has enough room for another full install right now, so keep up the great work and I'll continue to get shot down in the CAIC for now...
-
Is NTTR compat with CAUC ie. I can install it and menu will allow me to fly either campaign? My Module mgr shows just about every plane, option etc but no NTTR? Tried Available DLC and got all kinks of CAmpaigns, but no Terrains. Given a YES to the first question I ass/u/me I can just go to DCS and purchase the download? Will it know enough to install in my main dir? Sorry to clutter the forum with this simple post, Is there any way an author can delete the post after it's been answered? Ot does it just go on forever????????
