  1. Nope - the map isnt suiatble for low level play. On any level. So i havent had months of playing it at all. What I have is a product that promised one level of detail and delivered another when it came to the pre-release image and what we got. What I have is fuzzy felt ground textures droped over jelly mould mountains of a largly unpopulated wilderness. What I have is uninstalled at present. And what I have should never have been released it that state.
  2. Good for those able to get Kola for a price that probably is more (though not completely) in line with its current state and implementation. Bad for those of us who paid $22.00 more in pre-order and feel somewhat mislead by the pre launch images and lack of transparency about the ground texture quality, both of which remain unaddressed.
  3. Sorry, I've not been paying attention - Hi fidelity S3? didnt we already have that? Anyhow it looks great albeit without any liveries provided. Seems to have broke the user made liveries (again) too. ED giveth and ED taketh away.
  4. Yup - one picture from 200 ft in the mountains and one from the wilderness flatlands would go a long way. Given this was the cause of a lot of the dissappointment, I figured ED may have been keen to show progress in that regard.
  5. Only tested with AI as I cant fly myself currently. In a nutshell the Cat 3 launch crew are still on or stupidly close to the landing area when an aircraft is trapping. I recall they have been somewhat more agile in the past. Seems to mainly affect the first AI to land. Simple mission attached to demonstrate. dcs.log Cat 3 Crew.miz
  6. Whilst we are not forgetting things lets not forget that one of those modules has been in EA for 4 years and that the cat crews already had enough motion in them to avoid looking like zombies whilst standing twiddling their thumbs, something that should have been easy to incorporate into what are essentially, the same models with different frocks on. Lets not also forget it still takes at least 4 separate mods to dress the SC in anything approaching a realisitc manner for what is, essentially, the sake of 5 static objects and a decent looking AI Seahawk.
  7. In fairness to us, the sum of all Newletter communication about this to date has been 2 paragraphs hinting at a "new approach to developing maps". One can only speculate as to what this is as that it the extent of what has been said. As for forum interaction, its been very tight lipped and reserved is perhaps the most charitable way I can put it. I dont think @saltyleon's expectations are unreasonable. Conversly, no one outside of ED knows how each map has been developed or over what time scale. So there is certainly a risk we run away with ourselves and assume thay have been developed almost in tandem to vastly differing standards and with little central oversight. Hence the consternation. A little transperency here and about what the plan actually is would perhaps go a long way. I look forward to the newsletter today and hope for something more that look down shots from 20000ft.
  8. Credit where credit is due. For EA and even without, the map is well conceived. I am most definately NOT a fan of photo imagery but, in this case, its all too apparent negative effects are mitigated quite well. Room for improvement for sure (to many flat bunds are apparent for instance) but not so much I makes me curse under my breath as other recent maps do. Bush pop also seems to have been carefully considered and seems much less of an issue in Iraq from the few hours Ive spent on it. Mountain topography is a highlight for me as. I think its mentioned above that its better than other maps due to tech moving on but Id disagree given tech doesnt move on so quicky that maps released 6 months ago wouldnt have also benefitted if the will to do it had been there. Clearly whoever is in charge of Iraq made better initial descisions than those in charge of Afghanistan and Kola in this regard. If anything though, it highlights the fact that it can be done and perhaps leaves those other maps with a little less room for excuses. As pointed out in the "Read this First" post, Im also pleased to see some consideration for Helo customers this time around. Sure much of the naffness of the photo terrain is obsucred by clutter but, at the heights I use helos at, thats fine by me. The places where that falls down slightly are the aforementioned bunds but again one has to be be looking to be affected to the point of distraction. I wont go as far as some in declaring this the best map. Syria still holds that crown for me and whilst its had several years of development it should be recognised that development it has had. Time will tell if Iraq matures out to be something more that an empty map with life only around airfields. My view is it would be a shame not exploit its potential, especially given this good a start but, dev costs money so Im holding no breath.
  9. It is fixed. I can only assume those posting otherwise deselected the full map option as the map went live and assumed.
  10. As a customer who has found 2024 to be a very dissappointing year, the last two patches have restored some faith. The new flight directors are welcome (but need more life in them like the original cat crews), the multiselect tool in the ME is a godsend and.................finally...............a new map a Helo player can enjoy. Im sure there will be quirks and complaints of stuff missing but, for me, it looks pleasantly acceptable at low level and more than acceptable in the mountains which seemed to have avoided the jelly moulds of Afghanistan and Kola. The team also appear to have managed "bush pop" very well and it is not the jarring mess it is in other arrid maps. I was expecting to regret another £40 but, for the first time in a while, Im not. I think a lot does have to do with the floras abily to mask low res ground textures also, but still, well done. I presume/hope/pray that the manner in which Iraq has been produced will make its way to Afghan at some point soon as this map serves to starkly illustrated the current iteration's shortcommings, though I feel its a prayer too far to think SA or Kola will change tac.
  11. All is well in the world again

  13. Are they linked to the Carrier? If not they will slide away as it moves for sure but I think Ive expereiced them not showing as well. Seems most auto link now though but if you change the carrier they all go unlinked.
  14. Came here to ask exactly the same question. There are a couple of HH and SH mods out there that look great but neither seem able to place statics in a stored config. Rato65s Seahawk mod was the previous goto but that now seems to crash DCS. Of the Mods that can decently represent a flying Seahawk sitting off the carrier dueing recovery and launch , I found Cowboy's Not a Seahawk Mod the best in terms of fidelity and rotor blur representation. It also has the options of mocking up other a number of other types of Blackhawks for on shore dressng and scenarios.
  15. I think the new members of the deck crew could do with a little more life when they are not engaged. Currently they are standing like statues on Spice. The orginal deck crew elements have a little more behavioural movement to them. Rigidly staring off into space 20ft from the jets of a full afterburning F18 on the cat does not feel authentic. The 180 Flip is also not endearing. As others have said, maybe be a cut fade whilst in the pit but Im not sure how that would work in extenal or with AI. Perhaps go back to the original invisible tractors or reverse gears for now until they come along at some point in the distant future. Maybe its also time to revisit the Deck Crew for the Forrestal with HB to (something that seemed to evaporate around the time SC was announced). Especially given the SC is very much hornet centric. Perhaps tie their appearance to owning the F14 if feature freeloading is a concern.
  16. The hook isnt there for carrier ops. If i can launch from a carrier it'll be by manipulation of the environment not by design and certainly not via a catapult.
  17. Whatever it shows, I'll view with a huge handful of salt after the recent maps.
  18. @Peedee What was the proper answer?
  19. This is how Im expecting the logic to work. Effectively what went before with some added interaction. If there aint no patio or rear elevator parking nothing will be directed past the island.
  20. I think ED has repeatedly said "no nukes".
  21. @motoadve you seem to posting different Telem screenshots over different forums. Have you images of your full settings (including the base VP configuator settings). Would be a useful reference of what feels real, given your RL experience. Cheers
