DCS: WWII Assets Pack - B-17G Livery Competition
Boosterdog replied to NineLine's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
Into the weeds again now gents with another question. De-icing boots - I know some were removed when danaged because of drag, often leaving bare metal. Im also aware of centres in the UK where the boots were removed before the aircraft was assigned. Im not aware the boots were ever left off at the factory. Looking at images of Swamp Fire Im seeing chips along the leading edges were boot would sit (as well as an annoying difference in the camo demarcation line from the one ibe done). The rear Horizonal stab is also either painted or partially booted with a either bare metal patch repair or partial boot removal. So my question is/are - Has anyone got examples of the area under the boot being repainted after removal? Do boots come in section or as a single unit? and should boots really be showng bare metal "chips" Thank you -

@Helles Belle nice work. Same for all the skins posted so far. Whatever and whoever gets the prizes this comp has been a real boost for the B17 and asset pack. -

Base skin 90% done and slowly working through each reference photo and written account I have to match the wear n tear present after the 99th mission. Inner engine complete and the nose area to patch n scratch next. Jury is out on the style of lettering for the code so this maybe a place holder. -

What are people doing in relation to redoing the props and U/C? Are there templates for these? Swamp Fire is on the final straight so Im wondering how to finsih those details... Thanks I remember the 1/48 Monogram kit had a pretty extensive stencil sheet but, like you, ive never seen much evidence of stenils on comtemporary photos. -
I think just "a skin". I want to get the weathering as accurate as possible for where photos exists. So far Im up to just under 200 minor alterations and corrections to the template for the base skin (mostly personal taste and altering baked items for the OD scheme) but i think its there now. The actual livery only took an evening from scratch but there's some artistic licence as the panels on on the model dont match the specific B17 exactly. Getting my head around the cowls is also taking my ageing brain a while.

Thanks Keef. I took as just the bomb group codes. Perhaps @NineLine can clarify. Im a long way off the codes though. Had a week of fettlingt he templlate and exploring rabbit holes various. Ready for weathering next. That'll be another week. Doesnt help that Im learning the DCS skinning way, Photoshop and the Model viewer all at once.

@NineLine Quick question if I may regarding the blank skins. Are they to be devoid of all marking save for national insignia or a stripped down version with Bomb Goup codes but no Squadron codes or serials? Additionally, given the stipulation to use the template is it acceptable to replace the wheel and prop dds files also? Thanks

The template is a PSB file and im a low life free loading gimp user. Can anyone suggest a way to convert it withut subscribing to photoshop in the first instance? Thanks in advance (Im considering as entry or perhaps just a skin for upload but only after i complete my entry in the "Paint a Ferrarri F1 livery without using the colour Red" competition) -

Is it impossible to get decent looking NM skins without mods or roughmets or are we in a place where there is better tech availaible on other modules but the B17 can still look ok using whats there? Asking as the stock B17 is grey without mods so its seems its not possible. Which makes holding a competion and ruling out anything but stock odd to say the least. -
Never said Thank you for this @fagulha. So a very belated Thank you!!

Just to say thanks and brilliant work on the B17 Skins. Cant add a comment in the dowloads section without it publishing my email so I thought I say it here.

Alt+Enter does not enter full screen; stuck in windowed
Boosterdog replied to Nealius's topic in 2D Video Bugs
I forgot about the "use 3D app setting" but ran it successfully with Vsync on - with it off there is (unsirprisingly) no vsync. It also works with the "use 3D application setting" option when combined with the ingame vsync option ticked which i'll stick with as per the original recommended settings. So far it all looks ok but I cant actually do any "flying" to properly see. That said, Im assuming EFS is EFS so also assume the befefits remain. -

When you say "ST working perfectly" I take it you mean with the autoexec entry. I havent been able to really play much at all since Feb so im not sure if an update negated this fudge. Regardless a fudge is what it is sadly and one that could disappear in a patch. -

Hi. Yes it seems to and seems reliable. I only have the one screen with a matching resolution however. I would still urge @BIGNEWY to bring this to the attention of the devs if he has not already done so. The reasoning for removing the ability to run fse has never been explained and a good number have been left to scrabble for solutions these past months. What solutions do work only work for specific set ups in 2D. I’ve not touched DCS since MT for this reason. That it works again for now is something but the silence from ED to this thread does not give me the confidence to invest anything further into the title at this time. That’s what worked for me. -

Full screen is ticked for me. Have you got the dx11 backend lines added to your autoexec.cig? Not sure what you mean buddy. -
For 2D players exclusive full screen can improve the smoothness (not the fps) of graphics for some especially in fast moving scenes and objects.. Once upon a time Alt Enter would do this but for some reason ED never made clear, not anymore. A workaround is to: 1) Disable "Full Screen Optimisations" in the compatability tab of the launcher desktop shortcut 2) Copy the following into the autoexec.cfg file: dx11backend = { flipMode = false, } This renables the feature in the non MT version without having to do anything else. The game should launch in exclusive full screen For the MT version do the same but ensure that you click into the DCS loading screen prior to the game booting into full screen or the graphics will lock. Alt Tab doesnt play well with this sadly. To check, adjust the windows sound (mosy keyboards have volume keys) - if the sound bar shows up, you aint in exclusive full screen. If it doesnt---you are.
