Ive bomabarded various forums elsewhere with this today so I may as well say it here since, its whats its about. One of the reasons why those outlying areas look so "basic" is the draw distance of the shrubs. As they are rendering so close to the point of view of the player, the majorty of what can been seen is effectively the "undercoat" of the terrain tile only. It seems to me (by no means am I claiming to be an expert) that the manner in which the shrubs (now a key element of an arrid environment) are rendered is a throw back to 2010 and the Causcauses where their primary use appeared to be to fill out forested areas as a player got closer ( Ie not there until you are there) to give the impression of denser cover. As such, although they are a part of the "tree" family of objects, they appear to be "hobbled" with a ratio reduction to render distance etc in comparision with most other trees (presumably because they are generated everwhere and would have crippled the potatoes we ran back then, given everything else). Now, of course the more shrubs, the greater imapct on performance but its not as if that performance is already being hammered by acres of woodland or, for that matter, grass (something which also helps cover the tile in more temperate maps). I dunno. Perhaps worth a looksee to see if that ditance could be extended?

The Main map is an "unbrella" purchase that includes all three regions as they get released. So it technically it is released but is now just 1/3 complete. As you bought both SW and the full map, you should ask for a refund on the SW map as its already included in the full map (if that makes sense?). There is no reason to purchase both unless you only had an interest in certain regions.
-
Im a tad confused. The SW region is stated as being feature complete but the outlying areas away from the towns and villages revert to a lower graphical standard. Are improvments to these unpopulated areas in the works or are those terrain tiles the finished article? In other words are we just to expect the handmade feels around towns and airbases and the Kola/SA feel everywhere else?
-
Ask ED for a refund for the SW region map. See the FAQ. The Full map you bought already includes the SW region as well as the other 2 planned regions when they are released. You can only use the SW regaion right now as thats the only part so far released.

I'd oringally incorrectly approtioned blame for this to the grass/clutter setting. It seems that there is some ratio applied to small bushes that severly limits the distance in which they appear in comparison to larger trees. That ratio also appears to affect the LOD distances. In the orgiinal Caucauses map, shrubs are predominently used to produce the illusion of dense forrestation under the tree canopy. In the more arrid maps however they are far more of an obvious feature in their own right. The problem comes in that, despite now being more than just close up "filler" they remain treated as such which results in a jarringly short view distances, often in otherwise featureless terrain. Not a big issue for Jets perhaps but for helo players its a different matter. Any chance this could be looked at in the future or even put on a slider in their own right, separate from the trees?

RAZBAM Situation Post Archive (will be deleted)
Boosterdog replied to Rhinozherous's topic in RAZBAM
It hard not to agree since he says absolutley nothing new or remotely interesting. The situation is worrying. Yup. Refunds should be given. Yup. There are risks buying from smalll companies servng a niche market. Really,,,,wow? ED are unlikely to take on development of someone elses project over and above making it work patch to patch. Yeah, I bought DCS WW2 as well. Click bait video that didnt need to be made. -
Thank you @Sedlo

From the patch notes Sedlo's "Have Doughnut" instant action mission has been fixed based on recent user feedback, but could not be included with this patch anymore. If you like, you can download it from the attachment below Where is this attachment please?

DCS F-4E Phantom II Release Date Announcement- May 21st 2024
Boosterdog replied to IronMike's topic in DCS: F-4E Phantom
I cant think of anything worse than dragging the day to day crap I deal wiith into my cave. Tempting as it is sometimes given the woeful state of my corporate IT. It would also mean more use of MS Teams (shudders). I await the day some overpaid bright spark decides Discord is the future for our inter team coms. -

Revisiting the topic of the bow-mounted PKT machine gun in 2024
Boosterdog replied to ACS_Dev's topic in Wish List
I can only say that since buying the Mi-8 many moons ago its been my go to module. Since then I've bought many fixed and rotary modules that Ive nowhere near as much interest in to do that "support the devs" thing. I dont think im alone amongst Hip drivers in saying Id happily pay for an upgrade given how much use Ive had from the original but equally............I'd also like some that "support the product" back given ED are still selling this ageing beauty at a realtively premuim price. @ACS_Dev kudos to you for a providing a well thought out argument in the first instance. -
Great to see Massum92's mod is going to be added to the core and I know that such incorporation is probably as not an as easy a hoop to jump through as one might think. The supercarrier could really use a small pack of similar items for itself and there are a couple of user made mod packs out there that provide such. Without using mods, the decks can be a little sparse. Things like chocks, tiedowns, tow bars, ammo trolleys etc would really be appreciated (by me at least). I appreciate that every item adds a performance toll and the SC is alreaty pretty heavy but having the options in the core instead of user outlliers would be great. The mods we have now are generally quite stable, but it would be nice to not have to worry about "patch routlette" .

F-4 Phantom Campaign announcement: 'MIG Killers'
Boosterdog replied to Reflected's topic in Community News
Sold! And HB can thank you too as its tipped me into buying the F4. -
Have a look around the internet for "The Other Side Side of The Mountain" by Ali Ahmad Jalali and Lester W. Grau. There's some good tactical detail in there about Soviet and Mujahideen operations during the war in addition to rough battleplans for areas throughout the country, including the south. EDIT - to add, it varies in detail but I found it gives a decent overview on the type of operations undertaken routniely and how each side acted and reacted, expecially in the South (which I found genally ignored in other genral accounts, those tending to focus more on the Panjshir Valley offensives).

A NEW DLC CAMPAIGN FOR THE Mi-8?
Boosterdog replied to CHPL's topic in DCS: Mi-8MTV2 Magnificent Eight
Id be happy for anything Hip. Never fully enjoyed Helos in Syria due to the awful LODS on some map structures and some common trees though. Dunno if that has improved of late -
Im sufficiently inspired with confidence to suspend my self imposed purchase ban. Nice job.
