  1. I'm so disappointed by these news. I know there are many people that have bought everything ED puts out just for the sake of support, or with the case of FC3, because they just wanted something to fiddle with while we wait for DCS-quality products. This has to end! ED is just another company like any other. Even though they are dedicated and are passionate about what they do, they still must adhere to sales figures. Every time you buy a product, you are in fact voting. But if you don't buy a product, you are also voting! I hope that everyone in the future will consider this before buying a ED or 3rd party module. I know many would buy DSC Lite:F-15C just to play around with while they wait for DCS:F-15, but with the current instability of ED's direction, I would urge everybody to ask themselves: Is this something I really want? After being acquainted with Black shark and the warthog, I for one know I can't go back or down or anything that compromises the fidelity that we have with these products. The alternative for me is to give up simming all together, as there are no competitors out there where I can offer my vote. I'm not trying to be a negative nancy here, and I know it was said DCS-quality was still being worked on, but it's starting to feel like every time DCS: fast mover is the only thing left on the list of things to come, something new and slightly distracting pops up. First CA, then P-51, then FC3 and now this DCS lite stuff. And I fear this will continue because people keep "voting" for these. So if you are like me, and can only continue your simming career with A-10C-level fidelity, please consider holding back your money until a module of said quality is available. This is because we must vote with our money, and we also vote by not buying! Sorry to seem so gloomy, but I can't help it, since I am... :(
  2. The changelog says "TGP IR operation is fixed". Exactly what was fixed? I have tried 1.2.3, but I'm not sure if I was able to spot any difference with the tgp, and I never knew there was a problem with it...
  3. ahh, haven't tried playing without HDR since I was back, so I didn't know, but that is indeed a game-changer. The mission "hideout" is actually very difficult because of this (if you follow the intended ingress route from IP), as the HUD becomes almost completely invisible because of the suns reflection of the mountains..
  4. just curious: How does HDR affect realism?
  5. With the standard weather setting, turbulence is bound to altitude "bands". IIRC the first one is 0 to 1000 m, and if the airport is above 1000, you won't notice any turbulence... My theory anyway...
  6. IIRC most f-15's have a tailhook, and the f-16 as well [citation needed], they are there incase of emergencies, and to be used on normal runways. (many military bases can deploy traps in case of emergency, and this was actually used in the incident where the f-15 landed with one wing, but the pilot didn't deploy his tailhook [further citation needed] IIRC). So I assume it was never intended for carrier ops... I'm saying all this based on vague memories that might have been dreams, but if you look into it, I think you'll find the reason for the tailhook...
  7. If you are thinking about lockon pre FC, then don't hold your breath. There is so much more content and stuff going on in the exe compared to then, so even the best hypothetical optimization would not necessarily bring back the performance you are hoping for. Consider reading some tips in the hardware section of this forum and figuring out your computers bottleneck, if it's not the cpu, a gpu upgrade might help a bit...
  8. yes, there are several techniques for a more rapid deceleration, but I was wondering about the status of the known bug in traction and or braking-efficiency as per this thread...
  9. How fare this issue nowadays? Do the 1.2.2 version have -1 consistent braking? Or is this still on the "to do list"? I have been away for a while, and I think maybe braking feels easier now, but I can't be sure...
  10. Damn! It worked! (It's allways the drivers...) I installed the AMD drivers instead of the ASUS drivers. They are supposed to be virtually the same, but hey. Than you kuky. Indeed a similar system, so far I haven't found anything which it can't handle with ease... thx again.
  11. So I have finally bought and build my new rig:) Had it for a few days, and it is just so awesome i cant sleep. Ever. This is the setup I ended up with: Corsair 650D Intel X79SR I7-3820 Corsair dominator kit 16GB 1600MHz CL7-8-8-24 quad channel Intel 520-series 240 GB SSD WD velociraptor 1TB 10000RPM ASUS Radeon 7970 HD Corsair AX 850W intel Liquid cooling It runs all the latest games maxed out without even a single stutter og dropped frame, everything is smooth as a babys bottom. And allthough I'm just starting up with DCS, preliminary test are simply giving me goosebumps. never below 30 fps with everything maxed out, even over cities, on "medium pluss" active missions. GPU is stable at 55-60 C and CPU at 45-55 C (Plenty of margin and still a quiet experience fan-wise) I ended up with only one SSD, and so far I see no need for more HD speed. boot time is instant and like nothing I have experienced before. Christmas came early:) Inseckt
  12. Hei there. I think that my issue is card-related: I get some nasty unnatractive "flickering" in the gui. It kinda looks like z-fighting. It's most prominent in the ME. I had this in-game aswell, but it was fixed by enabeling v-sync. It's a brand new (selfbuildt) system, so it's probarbly some setting issue. Intel x79SR I7-3820 ASUS ATI 7970 HD (Direct CUII TOP) Game instaslled on intel 520-series 240GB SSD (Same as system) W7 64 bit pro I'm running on 1920x1080 (same as desktop) (btw, im getting 40-50 fps with everything on max over tibisli, so f-ing awesome!!!) all hardware drivers are up-to-date, and I have the requiered redestributables (dx and c++) Sorry if this was covered in the past, some general searches gave me nothing... thanks for any assistance! Edit: Tried disabeling aero, and no change...
  13. I just stop it immediately by pressing one of the keyboard zoom buttons once. This shortens the pain somewhat:)
  14. Of course I don't use IE, (I'm not a neewb of the interwebs:megalol:). The issue I reported was using Opera, which is my main browser, and when it fails at something, I have chrome as back-up;) But yes, I agree, only use IE for downloading some other browser... Edit: I don't agree that .net is crap though, perhaps for web applications, but it's great for other stuff that is meant to run on windows only, but thats a whole different subject right there...
  15. Once again, Thank you Pyro, your posts are extremely helpful and I am so grateful for your time! I would rep you more if I could! Here: It's on me: :drink: Ok, I'm staying by the 2 x 120GB intel setup then:) No, I won't be touching that. Probably a very wise choice;) Ok, but I went with a slightly faster one anyways, as the one I had previously chosen was only dual channel. Here's my current choice: RAM: Corsair Dominator DHX XMP 1.5V Quad channel DDR3 240 DIMM 1600MHz CL7-8-8-24 4x4GB Kit (CMP16GX3M4X1600C7) Slightly expensive, but was the best compromise I could find, and I'm betting on it's longevity as well... Actually since my last post, I have fallen in love with the Corsair Obsidian 650D! I really like the elegant and discrete looks of it! It also has the tool-less design. My only concern is whether the thermal environment this case offers is chill enough. It has 2 x 200mm fans (one in top and one in front) and the exost at the back which will be served by the radiator and the intel fan. I'm pretty sure I should be ok as long as I don't OC, but I'm not so sure of the situation the day I'm going to OC, but by then, I'll probably know my system intimately and know what it can take... Thank you for the heads up! Current version: Casing: Corsair Obsidian 650D (CC650DW-1) Mother: Intel DX79SR (BOXDX79SR) CPU: Intel i7-3820 (BX80619I73820) GPU: ASUS Radeon HD 7970 (HD7970-DC2T-3GD5) HD1: 2 x Intel SSD 520 Series 120GB 2.5" (SSDSC2CW120A3K5) HD2: WD Caviar black 1TB 7200RPM (WD1002FAEX) RAM: Corsair Dominator kit 16GB(4x4GB) (CL7-8-8-24) 1600MHz Quad channel (CMP16GX3M4X1600C7) CPU Cooling: Intel high performance liquid cooling (BXRTS2011LC) PSU: Corsair AX 850W (CMPSU-850AXEU) CD/DVD/BD: Asus BW-12B1ST (BW-12B1ST/BLK/G/AS) (Not really important) OS: W7 Pro SP1 64bit (FQC-04660) I'm extremely satisfied with the current build. I feel like a kid on Christmas again I'm so exited! And if I know myself right I'll be able to coff up the money a bit sooner than january, cause I don't know how much more I can wait:music_whistling:
  16. The 3770K is more expensive than the 3820, at least in my store. And also slower in regards to GHz's (Which matters alot with DCS being single threaded and all). It also has smaller memory. The only Advantage for the 3770K as I can see, is that it's 22nm, and I don't know what that is worth. Could be a lot as far as I know... But I probably wont be changing the platform at this point anyways as I'm building for the future and plan on using this comp for many a year, and thus future compability with exchangeable parts will pay itself back. I'll go over it again in december anyways, but I really like the current setup. And I do feel I am getting good value for my money on this...
  17. First of all, thanks again for taking the time to follow my thread! Ok, now I have looked closely at your suggestions pyroflash, and reviews, articles etc seems to agree with you on your selections. However, I'm keeping the ASUS radeon simply because I'm familiar with it and quite biased towards Radeon based on earlier experiences. I'm also keeping the second HD as my supplier only carries WD and Seagate and I can always upgrade in the future when the wounds to my wallet has healed:) (Although money isn't really an issue, it will affect the time I'll need to wait before I can buy it). Here is a revised and more complete list: Casing: Cooler master storm stryker gaming big tower black (SGC-5000W-KWN1) Mother: Intel DX79SR (BOXDX79SR) CPU: Intel i7-3820 (BX80619I73820) GPU: ASUS Radeon HD 7970 (HD7970-DC2T-3GD5) HD1: 2 x Intel SSD 520 Series 120GB 2.5" (SSDSC2CW120A3K5) HD2: WD Caviar black 1TB 7200RPM (WD1002FAEX) RAM: Corsair Dominator kit 16GB(4x4GB) (CL9-9-9-24) (CMP16GX3M4A1333C9) CPU Cooling: Intel high performance liquid cooling (BXRTS2011LC) PSU: Corsair AX 850W (CMPSU-850AXEU) CD/DVD/BD: Asus BW-12B1ST (BW-12B1ST/BLK/G/AS) (Not really important) OS: W7 Pro SP1 64bit (FQC-04660) Despite the cheaper CPU this setup is 10% more than the last iteration. Mostly because of the new HD setup. I'm not being cheep, but how much will I notice the difference of (2 x Intel SSD 520 Series 120GB 2.5") vs (Corsair Force series 3 SSD 240GB)? And I don't really care about boot times and such, it's really only DCS performance that counts (any of these setups is vastly overpowered for my other uses:thumbup:) So here's my follow up Q's: 1. Is the HD1 upgrade really worth it? 2. Do I need a separate netcard, or are these sufficiently integrated in the motherboards nowadays? (I'm confused as to what I need..) 3. Is there any other questions I should be asking? Edit: 4. The RAM I have listed is "only" 1333MHz; Shoulden't I be aiming a bit higher here? And further; I never really understood the timing thing (What does 9-9-9-24 mean and what does it matter?) This is all so much fun!! I'm considering naming it "Enterprise" ;), but perhaps this is a bit cliché? Suggestions? OT: My GF wanted to start simming with me(!!!) and that's why I'm buying a new comp so she can have the old. So after I have bought the comp, I will start saving for an awesome engagement-ring:thumbup:. Although I must say, preliminary attempts and tryouts are not encouraging: On her first unassisted landing, she tried to touch down the A-10C with a staggering descent rate of -6000 FPM in a steep nose-down attitude resulting (of course) in an immediate fireball. But we'll get there!:P:thumbup:
  18. Thanks for your replies so far! This is extremely helpful! (This is my first time building a rig piece by piece...). I will look into your suggestions tomorrow and make a revised build. But I can say already I will definitively go with the 3820 now, and I have no clue about cooling and power, so I will probably be following your suggestions there as well... I won't actually be buying this until January, so I have plenty of time to figure this out...
  19. I get the same. Tried downloading several times... I don't get it? Edit: Resolved: browser automatically tried to save it as .zip instead of .rar. Fixed manually:)
  20. Here's what I'm planning to build: Mother: ASUS P9X79 (Socket 2011) CPU: i7-3930K GPU: ASUS Radeon HD 7970 HD1: Corsair Force series 3 SSD 240GB HD2: Western digital Caviar black 1TB 7200RPM RAM: Corsair dominator kit 8GB (2x4GB) CPU fan: Cooler master hyper Powersupply: Corsair pro 750W +++ My questions regarding my preliminary selections is a s follows: 1. Have I chosen a decent motherboard? 2. Have I chosen the correct powersupply? (I probably won't be OC'ing, but like to keep possibileties open...) 3. Is the 2011 socket something that is supported in the future? 4. I'm also considering i7-3820, should I? 5. Is more than 8GB RAM useful in any scenarios? (Esp. in DCS) 6. Is this an awesome PC that runs DCS like a boss? I would love to get some opinions and I appreciate all replies<3
  21. Although the Toad uses AFM, I don't believe soft body physics is involved at this point...
  22. It seems like it was the opposite in the a-10, the readout on the HUD stopped but the gauge continued, as I reported in this post: http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1357940&postcount=14
  23. It happens in the a-10 aswell. I asked about it before, but nobody knew. But my guess it's probably a bug in the code, cause I can't imagine why a barometric altimeter would stop counting..
  24. For this very reason, I'm kind of surprised they didn't hold off CA until Nevada. I imagine that CA is intended to capture newcomers from other areas of the simming/gaming world, but I would think that a lot of those potential customers would be thrown off simply by the ground mesh. It just doesn't seem "current"; it has beautiful models and all, but due to the nature of CA, the age of the current theater is starting to really show. Perhaps Nevada is nearer than we think??? Because i think CA will benefit endlessly from a new and improved theater... PS. This was not meant as critic as we all know it's beta, but merely an observation:)
