Some Pictures I took while at the African Areospace and Defense Expo in Cape Town, South Africa. Silver Falcons Areobatics Display Team of South African Airforce A C-47 drops some South African Airforce Skydivers A South African Airforce Hawk Mk120 Trainer used as an Aggressor Aircraft Hawk Mk120 with Gear Down Hawk Mk120 Releasing Prachute South African Airforce A109 South African Airforce Gripen D Gripen D shwing off some burner Gripen D doing a 3g Turn The following aircraft are all operated by a private company Thunder City based at Cape Town International Airport. They own the largest collection of privetly owned military aircraft including 4 Hawker Hunters, 2 Lighnings, 2 Bucceneers. These lightnings are the only ones still flying today. They were even kind enough to break the sound barrier for us albeit at 20 000 ft to avoid any windows breaking. Hawker Hunter painted in the colours of Shell The Lightning going inverted for us. Something that was quite intresting was that he was only using one engine through the entire display and we were told that he had his throttles just above idle, some power, and when they where going to break the sound barrier he mistankinly broke it while he was doing an almost 90 degree climb to 20 000 ft. A Bucceneer doing a nice low pass. A Bucceneer showing of its arrester hook A South African Airforce C-130 Taxiing More photos will follow.....

awesome show will be creating a new thread of all my pics from there. It was so cold that half the time i couldnt take pics and even then they came out all blurry. and at the same time i got sun burnt, talk about contradictions.

Quick question about the infantry in dcs. Will they be grouped in differant types of squads, such as rifle squad, machine gun squad, anti0tank squad etc or is it just a mixture of them all? -
Some more pics and 2 movies of the Rooivalk in action http://www.patricksaviation.com/videos/Francois/1087/ http://www.patricksaviation.com/videos/Dark%20Pilot/3060/

Some Pics of the South African Airforce at work. The Second Oldest in the World. To Bad we can't protect our country as our primary fighter the Cheetah C has been retired before the Gripen has come into service due to financel problems, the military only gets 1.4% of the GDP adn there is a growing skills drain as many quilified personnel are leaving to work overseas. The Cheetah C a local upgrade of the Mirage III Cheetah C Agressor Aircraft Cheetah C dropping some dumb bombs Cheetah D Two Seater The new BAE Hawk 2 Seat Trainer One of our new Gripens An ex Mirage F1CZ Workhorse of the SAAF the Oryx, (a local upgrade to the Puma) Soon to be retired Alloutte III To be replaced by this the A109 Our Attack Chopper the Rooivalk the Rooivalk doing a complete roll, I believe that it is one of the few choppers in the world that can do this, (Lynx being the other one I know) Will post some more in due course

I believe that the designers made a sensible choice as it being a single pilot set up it would create higher workloads. Imagine trying to train the gun onto target and fly at the same time. One way ticket to death.
