  1. I'll ask again... what is with peoples obsession that I am somehow defending/justifying 32-bit OS? Would you be so kind as to tell me where I ever posted it was 32-bit only? From your comments quoted above I can only surmise that you have ZERO knowledge of both programming and modern compilers. To build 32 and 64 bit libraries is as simple as a compiler option change. Done. As to why I'm asking? I have the option of supporting old OS and older techniques at the expense of newer functions, or I can drop support for older OS up to and including Windows Vista. Please see page 5 of the other poll I started for a more detsiled explanation of SDKs and the choice I have. In the end, my/our decision as 3rd parties affects you, the end user and customer of those products. If you want me/us to make it so you have to get Windows 8 to run our products then we can do that. From the way I keep being challenged about why I'm asking, you make me wonder if you'd be happy with that decision? It's fine by me - only one OS to worry about, not hmmm 8 or even 10 if we supported right back to 32-bit XP. I actually know this market fairly well already - I'm an avid flight simmer myself and have just about ever sim going except for XPlane and some of the earlier sims from the mid-90s backwards. As you stated yourself Not everyone here has the best pc nor the best or latest OS so you won't mind if I find out how many that is? One of the Mods here has in his signature many links aimed directly at helping people run DCS on 32-bit OS. It must be a frequently enough asked question for him to do that. There is another guy looking for data on people running 32-bit OS so he can help them run it. Again, the 32-bit demand must be sufficient for him to spend his time doing that. Yes... I think I know my market fairly well actually. Still, it doesn't hurt to ask. It's the animosity towards the questions I've asked that is perplexing me. Thank you for your suggestion of looking at Steam hardware stats - I had forgotten about that (see - asking questions does help - you don't always get answers you were looking for ;) ). Thanks for that. :) Best regards, Tango.
  2. Thank you for offering to sponsor the move! Greatly appreciate it! 8) http://uk.insight.com/en-gb/productinfo/misc/0001427833-00000001&utm_source=base&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=base&src=000093 Thanks!! 8) Best regards, Tango.
  3. I don't expect you to understand this, but what it is deciding is a couple of things. The first, whether to support 32-bit at all. The reason for my other question about OS determines whether I use the latest SDKs or whether I use older SDKs to maintain backwards compatibility. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/desktop/hh852363 If you read the links, you can see I can even drop support for Windows Vista SP2 (note that SP2 is a specific requirement for compatibility - SP1 or Gold are NOT supported in the SDK). Dropping it is that simple. So... if you think my questions are trivial, think again. I'm one compiler option away from dropping even Vista (both 32- and 64-bit versions) from the list of supported operating systems for the products I'm working on. I haven't even mentioned Windows XP (again both 32-bit and 64-bit) yet... These questions are not so trivial as many seem to think. Best regards, Tango.
  4. 200? LOL - more like 10 or 12. Tango.
  5. Given that English is one of the most spoken languages in the world, I'd say there was a more than likely chance that many of the 1800 readers of the thread so far were not native English speakers. ;) It's only pointless if ED make the next version 64-bit only. Will they? They're certainly not going to give me their sales stats, so I have to find out using other methods. Best regards, Tango.
  6. :megalol::megalol::megalol: Do you know what I find soooo funny? That everyone has the bizarre idea that I'm somehow trying to defend or support 32-bit platforms. Hey - don't let me get in the way of your misguided ideas about what I may or may not being trying to accomplish. It's hilarious. :megalol::megalol::megalol: Tango.
  7. Do you work in the Government as a statistician? "We surveyed 100 members of the Black party and they all supported the banning of the Red party. We extrapolate this 100% result to suggest that even members of the Red party support the banning of the Red party". Best regards, Tango.
  8. Bump! Please keep voting!! 149 to 3 is not a large enough sample. Best regards, Tango.
  9. Which OS do you run DCS on? Please select the OLDEST, e.g. if you run it on both Windows 7 and Windows Vista, please select VISTA.
  10. I wasn't priming long enough. Starts every time for me now. 8) Best regards, Tango.
  11. 64-bit is already here. The question is whether to continue supporting 32-bit or not... Best regards, Tango.
  12. 31. Best regards, Tango.
  13. That's the whole point of the poll, to look at such stats. Best regards, Tango.
  14. I destroyed my engine last night but then realized I was exceeding 50 inches of MP with low RPM (this equates to high torque on the engine). Watch RPM vs. MP (manifold pressure). This is long reading, but hopefully helpful: http://www.advancedpilot.com/downloads/prep.pdf Best regards, Tango.
  15. Good point - I think I have straight curves for the rudder at the moment. I'll try adding some. Best regards, Tango.
  16. Just wanted to say that whilst I'm having a few issues with starting and takeoff (though it seems I resolved the starting issue) this aircraft is great fun to fly. :joystick: Need to spend some time flying and getting used to the handling, but already she handles very well once she's off the ground. Best regards, Tango.
  17. Indeed!! I knew it was not going to be easy, but not this hard either. :D Best regards, Tango.
  18. I did start to get good starts frequently after I held the primer for about 5 sec. too (you can see that later in the track). You can also see the issues I had with ground handling. I'm the P-51 starting at the back corner behind the other P-51 and A-10. Best regards, Tango.
  19. I'll try that. I only tried starting with OAT ~ +21 °C and holding the primer for 3 sec. Best regards, Tango.
  20. That's where my understanding of tail draggers and flight dynamics diverge. If I make an attempt (at say 100 kts) to get the tail up, an uncontrollable yaw is highly likely even if I jump on it very quickly. I'm unable to "wheelbarrow" the aircraft down the runway and *gently* yaw it from one side of the runway to the other without it very quickly becoming uncontrollable in yaw in one direction or the other. It results in going off the side of the runway and crashing. Best regards, Tango.
  21. It seems when it actually starts is randomized, and not affected by the pilot as far as I can tell. Best regards, Tango.
  22. I was getting very upset at how it was behaving on the ground. I have never seen a tail dragger inexplicably start yawing to the point it can't be controlled during a takeoff roll at high power and at 60+ kts, even when using full rudder deflection at an early stage during recovery to straighten it out (it certainly hasn't developed to the point of uncontrollability). I did find that it helps to ensure that the tail wheel is locked then to hold slight back pressure during the TO roll. Failure to do this (holding back pressure) results in the eventual *uncontrollable* yaw you see (and there appears to be an issue with how yaw is modelled in the FM in that regard). By holding the tail down it seems the tail wheel helps prevent the yaw from beginning, and a normal takeoff ensues. Regarding the yaw issue itself, the tail wheel should straighten up very quickly. Let's say you brake to the left, and stop the aircraft. The tail wheel is castored to the side. If opposite brake is applied, the aircraft should quickly yaw the opposite way, but in P-51 there is some kind of huge inertia that is preventing the aircraft from yawing as it should. One time it resulted in a ground loop from a standing start, with the opposite brake fully applied from the start of the maneuver. Same situation occurs on landing, but it is more manageable there and doesn't seem out of the ordinary. Takeoff however seems wrong. Once the aircraft gets airborne things seem OK. I have to say though - as frustrating as it was to start with, it is great fun to fly!!!! :D See the track in this thread of the issues during start/taxi/takeoff: http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1704199&postcount=5 Best regards, Tango.
  23. Please see attached. Lots to see. Best regards, Tango. server-20130322-051024.part1.rar server-20130322-051024.part2.rar server-20130322-051024.part3.rar server-20130322-051024.part4.rar
  24. Understood, but as it is, it seems random only about when it starts, and not based on what the pilot is doing (so much) e.g. when fuel is introduced seems to make no difference, throttle position seems to make no difference (it is equally hard whether it is 5% open or 20%). It's frustrating to say the least. Best regards, Tango.
  25.:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad: What is it with this engine? It catches, but won't start, then when it decides to start, it starts immediately and smoothly????? What is the secret to successfully starting this thing every time? Even when it sounds like it is catching it won't start. Throttle position seems almost irrelevant too. Best regards, Tango.
